Dollar General The assistant manager unprofessional behavior.

I sent my 13 year old daughter into the store to buy a surge protector. She asked the assistant manager at the time where to locate the item. My daughter could not find the item, she asked again and the a/manager (a middle-aged white female) yelled at her and told her it was in the corner. I went into the store to speak with the individual about the unprofessional behavior. I remember 2 females named Mary and Donna. I believe the assistant was Mary. She asked Donna to confirm that she did not yell at my daughter and Donna turn her head and did not answer. I told her very professionally that she would not yell at my child and requested that she return my money for the item that I purchased. This incident occurred during the week of July 21-25, 2008.

Dollar General Bad management

The manger is very rude is not there when she needs to be there and most of all is not respectful to her employees. I have been in this store on several occasions and there would be only one clerk working in the morning and one clerk at night. The manger however is nowhere to be found when she is needed. she is constantly leaving work using her children and husband as excuses. She has on several occasions mistreated her employees causing them to either be fired or quit. She has raised her voice at her employees in front of customers belittling them until one was almost in tears. She feels that her employes must live their lives at Dollar General but she herself does not have to be there. I don't know I am just an outsider, just a customer but I thought you should be treated with respect at your work place and feel safe but I have heard the employees talk on several occasions that they were in fear of losing their jobs because no matter what they did it was never good enough in the managers eyes and anyday now they would be fired. Since this manger has come work here the employees have started to drop like flies.. I am sorry but we miss their smiling faces and their warm welcomes and bubbly attitudes and just wanted to let you know that we think yu have made a horrible mistake in hiring this manager..

Dollar General Bad management

I have been an employee of Dollar General For about 6 months now. I didn't have any problems with them at first...shortly after i was hired a found out i was pregnant. Notice I was getiing about 32 hours a week now i get 4hrs. if im lucky. My store manager soon began being rude to me, talking of my personal buisness in front of customers(not very professional at all) customers that at the time she was running her mouth, were my family and friends. This happened on more than one account. She is rude to customers all the time...other employees and myself have to calm them after she has made them angry. I always worked my hardest and now that i have to slow down a little bit(like not lift such heavy things) because im pregnant she says i am not dependable..? haha. She is discriminating me only because i am pregnant and she looks at it as a liability. She is not professional in any matter and now im turning to Corp.

I have worked for DG going on 3 years in sept.Hey I love my job really I do but if you had better managers it would be a better place to work.on tues we get a truck in and its up to me and another lady to sort everything to be put out the next day.now thats not all we have to do we are back up cashiers, I have to straiting gro side and feel up frozon, do the produce, feel everything on the gro side.plus we have to get buggys in .and the other lady does just as much.now yall started this thing that the manergers has to walk the floor make sure it the way you want it well how in the hell do yall exepct it to get done the right way when we have 4 or 5 diffrent things to do.and god lord it really getts bad when the DM is coming they get really bossy and [censor]y.they will want you to stay there untile 11 or longer to get to there standers well maybe if they help alittle more it will get done.but my son is 11 years old im not leaving him home by his self [censor] that and thats what they well tell it ont hurt him to stay home for a little while well then why dont the [censor]in manerger leave his by there self.the manger is friends of my led they go to lunh togrther every day just about, even on his days off my led even comes in to go to lunch with the manger.so how can the manerger be able to tell his friend what to do like the rest he cant, my led doesnt have to straiten and do half of what some of us do.and then theres the manerger named PAM DANIALS she is not a good boss shes a [censor] and a half ok on tuesdays when we have 4or5 things to do she keeps adding on tp you when she can do something her self she only wants to do her job and thats it she dont want to do any extra.but anyway our dm come in the other day and like i said they get really bad.one of the cashiers took a beather after ringing up costomers and PAM DANIALS walks up and ask if shes braindead you dont stand there while the DM is here now thats [censor]ing not right.if it dont get better with her there is a few thats holding back from cussing her out and we know we will get fired but you can only take so much.now when the store manerger finds out I sent this in he will make it hard on me.thats what he said he dont have to fire you but he will make it really hard onyou that you will want to leave. he has a great team in his store they just need to back off w little.my store always gets a great sore and when the DM comes in its always great so why in the hell they get so tore up when he comes in is really stupid they make you feel like your beneath them and I dont think thats is ok .well I could say more but that will be enough for now.oh and my store # is 9809 . I may get fired for this but oh well something needs to be done.

My name is Jody Milburn, my wife Chris is the assistant manager of the Albia Dollar General and has been for 4 years.

Approximately 2 years ago her boss (Dee is her name) was fiered for no obvious reason, but oh well that don't matter. Ever since that time Chris has had to take over manager position and run a million dollar store. She had never had any prior experience with DG or retail management, but did it like she had been doing it for years.

Since that time there has been what seems like a revolving door of managers (5 new managers!). Every time a new manager comes through Chris always hold the hands of the managers who apparently have the passed this test that she couldn't, but show the lack of competance to run the store. Meanwhile, did i mention the miniscule amount of pittance for pay from a multi-million dollar corporation.

After this past dismissal of a worthless manager, Chris was begged to take the manager position from her district manager, because quote "I never have to worry about the store while you are running it"

She had to go online and take some ridiculous test. Well she did not pass the test. Well she did not pass the test. The only thing that test proves is that she didn't know how to answer questions from the way some crooked corporation wants her to.

For the past 2 years Chris was good enough to fill in and manage a million dollar store while this pathetic corporation pissed around and looked for someone else to run it as good as she has for penny's, but couldn't

Now it comes to a stop. There will be no more slaving for you greedy ### for no more money. I won't sit back and watch her put in her 40 hours and also have numerous phone calls on her days off to deter problems or avoid obstacles. Chris is way too great of a person to have to put up with the extra stress, that by the way, she never complains about.

I am a supervisor where I work. I was put into that postion with hard work and knowledge of the work. I never had to take some ridiculous test that had nothing to do with the achievements that I can accomplish otherwise, i may not hold a supervisor position.

Ask the community and all her co-workers how much they would lover for her to be manager of that store and i promise you will hear a great outcry in her favor.

I'm not just saying all this cause i'm her husband.

I know how much she cares about her job, store, co-workers, and customers. I'm saying what happened to hard work and knowledge to get you ahead?

Chris doesn't know I'm posting this but I don't care. If she loses her job cause of my states, so what?!?! There is much better than that disgrace of a Corporation that is Dollar General but she just don't want to see it.

She loves her job and executes it beyond all else while being a great mother and wife. I listened to her talk about work every night and see the passion in her eyes. She is so depressed about the failure of a test to get a job which she has successfully been doing the past couple years.

All I can say is, quit listening to a bunch of psychoanalysis and promote from the ground up.

Don't punish my wife for my thoughts and feelings, prove to me that i'm wrong, because I don't think you cowardly, ignorant, corporate fools can.

Sincerely,
Jody Milburn

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT OLD SAYING: TREAT PEOPLE HOW YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH THESE LETTERS AND NUMBERS BEHIND THEIR NAME ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE THE MOST UNATTRACTIVE PERSONALITY AND ATTITUDE. BUT WHEN YOU FOR 1 TIME GIVE IT RIGHT BACK TO THEM, OOH THEN IT'S A PROBLEM. THEY NOW CALL YOU INSUBORDINATE. I MEAN THESE MANAGERS ARE DISRESPECTFUL TO FELLOW CO-WORKERS, CUSTOMERS AND WHOM EVER ELSE. DOLLAR GENERAL IS A GOOD COMPANY TO WORK FOR UNFORNATELY IT'S THE STORE MANAGERS AND ASSISTANT MANAGERS THAT ARE NOT VERY KIND. THEY KNOW WHO THEY ARE, NOT ALL OF THEM. GET IN CONTACT WITH MR. RICK DREILING, CEO OF DOLLAR GENERAL. TELL HIM THE TRUTH. HE NEEDS TO KNOW. THANK YOU!

Dollar General Bad management!

Management was very Rude to Customers. Customers were standing in line with two lines opened, with ten or more customers in each line. There were at least three other terminals that would have been opened. When asked if other terminals could be opened. The manager was very disrespectful and rude to customers. We were told that we could wait are leave. After being challenge on talking to customers in this manner she then stated that all the other registers could not complete credit/debit transactions. At that point I stated that she could have opened up a cash only terminal to alleviate/shortened the waiting time.

No customers deserves this type of treatment from Dollar General Employees. Family Dollar, Target, Walmart, and K-mart looks better each day in regard to customer friendliness, service and support.

Manager: No name tag displayed on the employee, she was only referred to as "Miss Helen":

Store Location: Stillman Blvd.
Tuscaloosa, Al 35403.

The Dollar General budgets hours for each store. The manager can't go over the allotted hours per week given. The work load stays the same so more often than not...the managers have to put in 70 to 80 hrs. per week to compensate for the loss of hours allotted. Managers are listed under salaried employee. They don't get overtime compensation so just remember how this company runs it's business. I would be" put out " also. As in fed up...over it!

Managers throughout Tuscaloosa seem extremely dull and/or disempowered by the company. Once I tried to return/exchange/alert them to a package of snacks that tasted like soap (obviously must've been stored next to the laundry soap they had a huge display of that week). The clerk referred me to a manager who looked at the open box and said she didn't want the box and couldn't do anything to compensate. Not the least bit of interest in the fact that her store was selling inedible products, let alone in making the customer happy. Another time at another store I tried to drop off a bundle of regular phone books that every resident and every business gets for free every year. Again, referred to a manager. This time the manager looked scared and muttered something about not being able to accept anything not sent by corporate. Wouldn't give me her name to jot down with a note about the store refusing on my delivery checksheet. I have to suppose that the company either hires only stupid people for management or gives them so little authority that they have to behave like they're stupid. Either way, the bottom line has to be that they're not willing to pay enough for quality management.

say no to gangs:
I'm sorry, but on our application it says nothing about gang involvement. The district and regional manager might not be aware of the problem. I'm not condoning gang involvement just saying that you should call corporate and actually get something done instead of telling everyone and their brother not to shop there. If nothing is said to those who need to hear it, she'll continue to be employed there!

And Dollar General does not have high standards. It's Dollar General for crying out loud. You think with the pay they offer they have high standards?

I live in Waynesboro Virginia. I shop often at your Broad St store. I noticed a week ago when I was in the store one of your employees had a blue bandana wrapped around her wrist. I have had trouble myself with a family member being in the crip gang so iI know for a fact the blue bandana represents the crip gang. I thought maybe this woman had a problem with her wrist so I thought nothing more of it. Well today October 25th I noticed that she is still wearing it. This concerns me due to the fact that gangs are getting worse in our community. It was a real shock to know that dollar general condones their employees being in a gang. I will no longer be shopping at your store and I am going to let our local gang task force know about this. I will also be letting all friends and family member know about this. We are going to stand up to gang involvement and to gang violence in our town. I am very disappionted that we have to see it where we shop. I thought your stores would be more aware of this, maybe it is that your company just doesn't care and will hire anyone. I thought dollar general had higher standards that this.

I agree I'm a Cashier at Dollar General and the mangers, District Mangers and even Asst. Mangers are down right rude and very disrespectful to not only customers to their employees as well. They go as far as to Imply that we have no choice in working more hours, other employees from other stores will loose their jobs, We cannot have breaks and Have to do every peice of work they do not want to do!

They try to say that It's our duties to do these things but I for one have called corp. to ask about breaks and got told with a eight hour work shift I am supposed to have two fifteens and one hour break. I'm lucky if i get A fifteen much less that much! Then the customers complain to me about the treatment they are given by the mangers, and how the mangers are treating us employees. Other store's employees complain about this as well watching from their place of employeement and suggest we all find better jobs.

I agree with the ladies complaining, I am a cashier at DG and I have never treated a customer with such disrespect, they have every right to complain, yes we do have a lot of work to do, and not enough time to do it in, and it can be very stressful, but if you cannot compose yourself while waiting on customers than you have no business working there, just remember as a cashier, you should remember how you would like to be treated when your checking out at a store. and yes I have gotten rude customers, but you keep your cool, check them out and then curse to yourself. remember an unhappy customer is a lost customer, and you lose too many with your attitude and you will have a closed store.

Dollar General Scammed and cheated!

Female Managers have filed a Discrimination lawsuit against Dollar General because KKR & Dollar General Corp pay female manager less than male managers for the exact same work and job. Amazing how this day and age companies are allowed to engage is such discriminatory behavior while individuals take it in the chin. Oh thats rights, individuals can't afford to pursue their legal remedies because attorneys demand such outrageous fee's that only big business can afford.

No wonder individual rights are ignored in the courts.

I know where all of you are coming from. I was a store manager from August 2007 ubtill May 5, 2010. I was terminated for donating pennied items to local non profit organizations, I was told it was a company policy. I know that for a fact that isnt true. I also I have a copy of an email sent from the corporate office from John Rodgers stateing to remove from the floor and either doanate it to a non profit organization or destroy it, so I donated as I did time and time again. We had just gotten camaras in January, so we gathered up the items as we did in the past and called our local Childrens home and Womans Aid and crisis to pick up the items. We go a new DM the first of April and by April 27th he had already fired one assitant manager, lead clerk, and suspened me untill they came to a desision on weather I was going to be terminated or not. He told me that he would call me that Friday with a desision, well Friday came and went, so I tried to get ahold of the RM finally on May 5, 2010 he called me that afternoon and told me that they came to the desison to terminate my postion, they did this over the phone reall professional. In the mean time the DM was demonted back down to a store manager.
I loved my job I had never been written up, my store was at model store, never behind on planograms, and my store finally reached a million dollars in sales in April 2008, all my store review was always in the high 90"s. This company has some real issues.
I filed for unemployement, and waited on the deputy desision and it was in my favor I gave them a copy of the email and store employee hand book, but was funny was the told the unemployment office I left due to personel reason, I didnt leave I was terminated or I would still be there.

I work for Dollar General and have so for 6 years now. I have met many people in this small community that I grew up in. Never really knew them at all. Have come to know them all as a community proud people who consider this store their local mall. Many people young and older have worked in this store over the past years. Many things have changed over the years - some for the better. I, being older, became settled and afraid to change jobs and always held optimism towards my job, position and company. Over the past 16 months I have been shocked, disappointed and thoroughly disgusted to see how faithful and hard-working employees have been discarded and treated with about as much respect as the cardboard from last week's truck. I have worked diligently and when I finally stood up for my rights and others I have found myself railroaded and blackballed. I reported my concerns to the corporate office concerning our district manager and his refusal to handle the situation. Now my days are numbered as an employee as I feel the mounted pressure daily. It's very difficult to smile, be friendly and do my daily chores knowing the company I work for was built on BLOOD, SWEAT. TEARS AND TOTAL DISRESPECT FOR HONEST, HARDWORKING DECENT PEOPLE. I pray to God every night to help me out of this horrible situation. KARMA IS A REAL ### LADIES AND GENTLEMEN [AND I USE THAT TERM VERY LOOSELY].

Mickey, as rude as Jason is it is very childish of you to point out someone's spelling, grammar mistakes. Like he said in another post so what. This is the internet, not English class. For you to mention his spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes is very immature of you. Not everyone lives in an English speaking country, and even if they do not everyone speaks it well because it is not their first language. Seriously both of you need to grow up. Also perpahs punctuation is different from where you live, because aside from a few mistakes I don't see much problem with it. I think you are just being childish as him by bringing that in this complaint when it has nothing to do with the complaint. Learn to stay on topic. Or do you two have ADHD.

Dollar General Rude attitude and safety hazards!

Was in dollar general store in orlando florida, near home where I spend a great amount of money each week buying supplies for my business. The service there was very upsetting this past weekend so much so that I will no longer shop there while the employees that are running that store are no longer there. Plus you are never able to get what you want due boxes being in front of everything you are trying to get to. they are piled at least 8 feet high in the isles 6 out of 7 days a week. Store is sloppy un kept not very well stocked. Causes everything is in the boxes. OSHA needs to be told about it. That is my next thing to do is to contact them about this store. I feel there very poor management there. That has been for the past 4 months that I have noticed this and the treatment is very poor. This store number is #06671 @ Northgate s/c 5043 Edgewater Dr. orlando, florida 32810. Phone number is [protected]. Thank you for reading this.

Funny I worked at the 3728 store on clarcona ocoee and obt. Very close to the edgewater store and yes they all seemed to be very dirty in the orlando area. My manager saw how hard I worked so she started having me work there all the time with no help. Then the district manager made dicriminating comments to me and when I went above him I got fired for some bogus reason. I'm attempting to have him write me a formal apology but am having trouble with their legal department. I am boycotting all the dollar general stores in Orlando Florida because of this and how they treated me. They fired me for reporting the dm but kept the thieves that I made apparent to the store manager and the dostrict manager, wow

My son and I went to the Dollar General Store in Frisco City, Alabama 10-21-09 @ 16:08:39. I have never seen such rude behavior from a manager in my life. The cashier made a honest human mistake and when she asked for a void the manager was very rude to the cashier and my self. She wanted to know why the young lady needed a void and the truthful answer the young lady gave her seemed to be unacceptable. The manager accused me of not wanting the product but that wasn't the case the young lady accidentally scanned the item too many times. The manager made the young lady cry. She had no right to question her in front of us like that. She should have waited for the store to be empty but she was very rude and unprofessional. I think she needs to be disciplined for her actions. For me I will never go back into that store again, I will travel to Monroeville Alabama to do my shopping for now on. I have never witness such rudeness before.

I agree whole-heartedly. In Alachua County in the cities of Alachua and Gainesville I've experienced the very same treatment and more. Comments posted below. Dollar General stores in Alachua County Florida is epidemic in its customer service and general store upkeep. The last straw was when I purchased a 4-pack of socks in which two pairs had numerous holes. Returning the socks I had to endure the store managers accusation that I pulled on the plastic tie and tore the holes myself. The fact was I carefully used a pair of scissors, taking extra care as not to do the very thing this manager accused me of doing.

Other events of disgust are one person in the entire store on a busy Sunday with at least a dozen in line at the checkout. Go ahead and take whatever you want. So much for the safety of their employees. How about the time where the aisles were literally strewn with merchandise actually heaped into a disorganized pile of various products? One couldn't even go down that aisle due to the clutter. Here's the last one. (And there's more but I'll spare you). I was purchasing a bottle of shampoo and the cashier asks me how much it costs. "I don't know, I didn't look" I said. The cashier says "why not you should know these things". Yea, like it's my mission in life to learn all Dollar General's prices.

Message to management: How about hiring people with normal cognitive powers and not ###s? Secondly, how about training your managers and staff in customer courtesy. I highly resent the attitude and treatment of your managers and employees. Dollar General website has no customer service link! Does anyone at this corporation even care?
