employee rudeness
Everytime I walk into my local dollar general I get to hear how one of the associates is continually saying stuff about me. This associate has tried to lie about me to get me banned and when that didn't work she has continued to try to make me feel uncomfortable in the store by spreading untrue accusations. This has been brought to the managers (Michela...

We had a manager's meeting today, and when my manager got back to the store he had a list of new procedures the employees are to follow to "prevent theft."
We are now expected to open purses and packages to let the video camera see inside them anytime we enter or leave the building.
We are to search the vendors when they come in to the store and leave.
Any "bulges" on our person are to to be exposed or "patted down" by the employee in the presence of a manager.
These requirements are on top of an etremely complex system of policy and procedure used to intimidate and scare employees who are mostly uneducated and working for minimum wage.

employees standing directly outside the door smoking
In the state of Illinois the law is no smoking 15 ft. from the main entrance to any public building. The employees of the Dollar General Store # 09938, 412 Limit Street, Lincoln, Illinois can not get past the front door. No matter what time of day you drive by or actually stop at the store there is 1 if not more employees standing at the door smoking. You walk in the store and it smell like cigeratte smoke. Tonight I visited this store, 2 employees were standing directly outside the door smoking. I was looking at the greating cards so I was in the front part of the store. When a customer came up to the register an employee that was standing outside came in to check them out. Once they left she went back outside. At this point I think anyone could rob them blind and they would not even know it. Which I am sure it has happened. At one point I thought of complaining to the manager, but I believe the manager is as guilty as the other employees. I think my next step is to complain to the authorities of the town, maybe they will fine the employees or the store for breaking a Illinois No Smoking Ban. It is bad enough when you see a customer throw there cigerate down right before entering a store, but to have the employee violate such law.

I work at Dollar general & I know at our store the employees never smoke any where near the door but the customers do! The customers do not even have the respect to keep the door closed, they will smoke with it open & when you work the register & allergic to it, it is very difficult to breath. I have asthma. Not sure what ever happened to people having respect for others.
Thanks for your complaint Buzz Killington. At least they're not shooting up outside the door.
"It is bad enough when you see a customer throw there cigerate down right before entering a store..."
What, do you want them to throw them IN the store?
you are some kinda busybody who gets pleasure out of depriving others of the things they enjoy.
unfair treatment of employees
i was recently terminated from Dollar General for asking the manager to make a fair schedule.I was doing most of the closing, and she hired her friend who never closed. I was with the company for almost five years. Can you believe that?

On 4/24/09, I went into Dollar general, my 12 year old was in game store just a few doors down, I told him when he got done if I wasn't in car to come over to Dollar General, When he came in store I was just heading to check out, and I turned to ask him if there was anything that he thought he needed (hygeine items), He said Mom I need something for my hair, so I looked around and did not see a section for his hair products, He is african american, So I said ask the lady up in front, so he did and she said it is 2 isle's over, so we looked and there was only perms for caucasian, So I went up to register and my son was behind me and I said Mamn I'm looking for hair products for my son's hair, she looked at him and then me and said well we probably don't carry it because there isn't that many of them down here. Needless to say I was like dumbfounded that she had just said this, My son looked at me and I calmly asked her for corporate number and told her it had nothing to do with her, just to keep a scene from happening. So then the shift leader came up and gave me number and also gave me the number to the store manager and said she would be back on 4/27/09. So on 4/27/09 I contacted her and she was very apologetic, and I told her that I was going to be calling corporate and that I would be bringing a letter by that I was also going to be faxing to corporate. So on 4/29/09, I picked up my son from school we went to dollar general to hand deliver the letter, So as we are both standing back there talking to manager, this employee comes around the corner and was told only to apologize and instead starts stating that she didn't make any racial slur and why did I tell her it had nothing to do with her. Needless to say this was very upsetting, my son walks out and I looked at store manager for her to stop this and she just looked at me with a smirk on her face. I guess they think nothing of this, since there is not alot of diversity in this area. So on 5/1/09 I contacted Corporate and was told that Justin Comer would be calling me back. On 5/8/09 still heard nothing so I called corporate again, The lady said "Mamn Justin said the District Manager will be calling you, as I'm on phone with Corporate my cell phone rings and it was Gene the district manager. He was very apoligetic, and said that they would be getting back with me by end of the following week, well today is 5/18/09 and still haven't heard anything. Any suggestions please email me at [protected]@hotmail.com

I work in the Oneonta N.Y store.
it sounds like you should get a lawyer. My store has a hair products for african americans and children. Also sweetheart you have that cashier and manager come to Oneonta, N.Y. ; TRUST me they would get there [censor] kick here my town is equal for and one for all.
I am a 31 year old caucasion female
People that are backwoods hillbilly freaks and say dumb stuff like that should be shot on sight
I'm sorry. but I have to agree with the employee on that one. As one who has worked for Dollar General for a few years (unfortunately!) I have many times had to explain to people why we do not carry African American hair products. Of course I don't use the words as she did, however, I do mention that there isn't enough interest in the product to carry it. I think I would just let this go...she may not have known the correct way to go about the issue because so many African Americans take things the wrong way.
I'm sorry that your son went through this. I worked at Dollar General for a few years. My first manager hated Mexicans and tried to make us follow them around the store. Needless to say, I refused. I feel that Dollar General is concerned with nothing but their almighty dollar.
wrongfully dismissed
i worked for dollar general for a year i really liked my job.i really had
big plans working with this company.we went through 4 store managers
in that length of time.well i had a district manager that used me the store
manager and the asst. manager.there were other people working there
that didn't like me.finally its got to the point that they we accusing me of
stupid things that i didn't do.i was getting so upset but, i hung in there
because i wanted and needed my job.well i couldn't tell you all the things
they did. oh and i was promoted to 3rd key to during all this .but
according to the district manager i wasn't experience enough to be store
manager when i have been in retail for 25+YRS.so they finally let me go
by wrongfully dismissing me.oh but guess what they all lost their jobs
shortly afterwards.i have beening trying to get my job back now if you
were corporate office wouldn't this tell you something? i am hoping they
will hire me back as store manager.

and you my friend need to understand that you are just an ### running your mouth you have no idea what dollar general is about and you never will so find someone else to torment
ok jason is a person that has been on everyones complaint board saying one thing or another he just wants to run his immature little mouth someone that doesn't know what hard work is and probably never will. And Carolyn dear dollar general corp has been getting away with firing people for the wrong things for years i hate to say it but unless they get a new regional and a new district manager you won't be hired back and usually when your let go they put down no rehire believe me i wished they gave me a another chance they always seem to take the word of part time employees rather than the ones actually working hard
I thoroughly agree that most of the grammar and writing on here is just deplorable. If you want respect and you want people to listen to you, then you have to communicate clearly. If the grammar in this post is any indication of how this person communicated on the job, well...
It DOES matter; it doesn't make a difference if it's a post on the internet or if it is direct business correspondence. Spelling, grammar and clarity do matter.
Can't we all just get along?
Maybe you shouldn't aim so high. Like being hired back on as store manager. If everyone lost there job I really don't think they will hire you back. Not being mean just saying.
bad customer service
I was in the Bronson, FL store the other day and normally I am greeted, but this day I was not. There was a guy at the register his name is Brian and he just gave me a nasty look. He was rambling under his breath and was steadally giving me a nasty look. I kept going about my business because I needed diapers for my baby. I walked around the store for about 15 mins and I noticed he was following me around. I went up to him and asked him why he was following me around he told me not to worry about it..I asked to speak to his manager he told me that he was the manager.. I have never had any problems with this store. I have shopped there for over 2 years. I think that this store needs to be inspected a little better..I could not believe the way I was getting treated. I put the diapers back and went to the gas station to buy them even though they are more expensive there. I would rather pay more money somewhere else than to deal with that stores bad customer service..

I was in the Stockton, MO branch of Dollar General, and saw a rack outside with clothes for 90% off. After I waited in line for five minutes before the manager opened another lane, I was told the pants that were on the rack, along with about nine other pair, that I picked out were not on sale. In the middle of my purchase she left the register and went outside, took the other pants off the rack and refused to give me the sale price. She then blamed the mistake on her staff. I do not complain often, but since Rosalee has become manager at this store I have seen her sit around while her staff is frantically running to do their work. I have also seen her reprimand her staff in front of customers in the middle of their check outs. In short she is not a good manager or co-worker and her customer service is left very wanting.
huh i agree had too have a reason to follow you i have had this to many times also at the store i work at and sorry after awhile we do catch you it might take time but you will get caught
Sounds to me like you've shop-lifted there for over 2 years. He wouldn't follow you around unless you've been identified as a suspicious character.
store hours
I don't not understand how dollar general can be so greedy for the all mighty buck that they have to have thier stores open from 8:00 am until 9:00 pm 7 days a week! Since when does this store try to be like walmart???. The reason why dollar general is doing so well is because they aren't like walmart! Or I thought they weren't. There is no holidays that...

I had been working for Dollar General since Septmber 2008 and i loved my job my boss at the time understude that i had two small children at home and really worked with me about my hours that i worked and taught me a lot when i got hired i became a third key holder so i was really happy. But then we had a new manger take over the store and she was opening every deposit that i made why i still dont understand that she also had me working every night never day shift and she never would work night shift. When my old boss left the distantant manger offord me the the assisant manger job with more pay and i say yes i ran the store 5 days by myself and did a good job then when the new manger came along I called the big boss back to ask about my pay because i never got it she said i was not the assisant and that it was up to the new boss if she wanted me to have that postion or not. I fell like i was used and i think somthing need to be done about it.I finally quit Febuary 3 because i has call my boss and told her i would be comming in late sue to my kids and she told me i was going to get wrote up for it and that i need to find somthing else to do with my kids she was upset because she had to leave early to take her husband to the docotors.. i feel like if she is the boss it is her job to stay there until i can get there.I also had a bad problem when one of the cashiers there was taking money from the cashregister and when i call her she wouldnt do anything about it so i called the big boss and she told me to just keep my eyes on her. I feel like they reather have people there who are stealing money and there products there instead of people like me who was doing so much for the company and trying to help out and stop the people who was stealing i couldn't work around that stuff anymore. And when i went to get my last check i didnt have one i have my clock in paper that shows i worked 14.50 and still to this day have never got paid for it. But my old buss sopsely got fired for cutting a persons time by 15 minutes.. So i really think you guys need to do somthing about this...PLEASE i loved my job and hate i quit but i could no longer put up with this kind of stuff going on and nobody seemed to care but me...

May the p0wers that be help you should you need FMLA. This market has the highest shrink in the Country if you believe the mumbo-jumbo corporate dishes out. I have never worked for a company that thinks employees steal m0re than the public does. Spend a friday at any store here and I promise you I can prove them wrong.
I have done all that has been asked of me. I worked long after I went to the doctor and was placed on light duty. Suddenly I was no longer allowed to work because there wasn't anything I could do that was considered light duty.
Long story short? They told Unemployment I quit. What? I am providing all paperwork and have been released to full duty and I quit? Are you kidding me? Oh and my manager whom I love working with has her hands tied. Corporate will not allow her to put me on the schedule. Why? She has no idea and has called our DM and RM repeatedely to find out why. I have recently accepted a position elsewhere and I feel for those like me that need to support a family and get caught up in the mess that is Dollar General
I hate the Dollar General. There are TWO of these stores in Saint Johns, MI.
I totally care, that is illegal, and that is ###! Take it to the federal department of labor, or whatever its called. They will take care of everything. Or, contact the corporate offices, payroll, they should help you.
I WENT THROUGH THIS SAME ###! I worked at Meijers for TWO YEARS! I was an EXCELLENT employee. My boss was awesome, until they had to step down do to personal reasons. The guy they replaced her with was the devil incarnate. His name, CAM TIEU. If you have the unfortunate experience of working for this [censored]face, QUIT! Your bettter off. He was a ###ing slave driver. I hadn't gotten written up ONCE or had ANY problems, until he started. Apparantly, no store wanted him but they wouldn't firee him cause he was management, so they just transfered him around to different stores. This chinese wok head would barade you verbally, and put you through hell. He made me clean ###ing door hinges with a ###ing tooth brush! ###. I put up with him only cause I needed the job. I finally quit because he loop holed the union and stole my vacation hours, tried to say they "weren't in the system" so he gave my time to the other guy in my department. Complete bull ###. People like this guy should be BURNED ON A STAKE! Once more, he wouldn't give me full time, but the DAY my vacation wqas supposed to begin, he gives me full time hours. ###. Im glad I quit, I like my current job because atleast the management AND employees there are actually respectful to everyone around them.
I agree with this girl. I went through something quite similar. I was promoted to 3rd key back in February of this year and was doing everything that 3rd key was suppose to do the only thing that I had not done yet was close the store . But that is because my manager stated that the DM told her that 3rd key was not allowed to close the store. I did open with her on a few occasions. I had asked on a weekly basis what was going on with my pay and why I had yet to get any raise. Not just for the promotion but for the time I
had been there because according to the hand book after 6 months of service I was due a
raise. On a weekly basis I was given the same excuse " I have to talk to the DM" and until a
little over a week ago I had the 3rd set of keys to the store and was doing everything that
3rd key was suppose to do. Then the old assistant manager came back and boom somehow
I got kicked under the dang bus. When on Monday of this week I again asked her what
was going on and now why none of my codes worked I was told " that it was my fault"! I
asked her how it was my fault. She said that it was because I could not work the required
hours that are required for 3rd key.the funny thing was that I had been working the
hours that were required for 3rd key. I came in when I was suppose to and when ever they
needed me even on my days off. 3 weks ago I had to ask for some extra time off because my
husband and my son were both sick and I was taking my husband and my son back and
forth to the doctor. I even gave her the notes from the doctors. And on Friday of this past
week my husband had to have surgery granted the surgery went well for him. and he is
fine now. I thank God for that. But I am being punished for caring about my family. So
yesterday I called human resources to ask them about this situation and I was told that
I do not show in the central computer as ever being promoted. I said what? She stated it
again and I said that is not right I was promoted back in Feb, and since then I had been
doing everything that 3rd key is suppose to do including checking in vendors, doing
refunds, voids, bank drops, and running the reports for the drawers. something is not
right here. she told me to contact erc and they would contact the dm by email and go from there. I know that the old assistant manager who is now back in the store where I
worked had been promoted to manager and had her own store and the new dm basically
kicked her back down the ladder and back to our store because the guy filed a complaint
with erc, and erc just sent the email to the dm. there is alot of problems with dg and I have
seen it first hand and have heard our manager talk bad about other managers, and employees. I do not think that this kind of behavior by people in charge is right. I have even seen our manager call and cuss out one of the other assistants and complain because
they could not or would not drop what they were doing and run to the store so she could
go home because she had a headach or she didnt feel good. Total sht with dg. they work
you like a dog . the good employees they screw over and use and lie to. and want to only
keep the ones that like to steal, call in all the time and are just plain lazy. it is total bs...

I used to work for Dollar General in Chariton, Iowa and my boss was great!
Everyone I worked with were hard workers, kept the shelves stocked, the room that held all the inventory was well organized and the store was clean and not cluttered... It was actually FUN to work there! BUT when I see all the complaints here on this site, it infuriates me as to why corporate would allow this in some of their stores...a clean and well organized business will no doubt bring in more customers and in turn make more money AND treating the employees with dignity and respect will provide a better working environment for all thus again bringing in more customers, making more money...isn't this the whole concept? Corporate is more interested in $$$$ than they are in their employees, which is sad! It should all go hand in hand... All these complaints needs to be brought to the attention of the BIG GUYS...I believe in the chain of command but sometimes it's necessary to go over their heads and go to the Big Kahuna!
With the economy the way it is now, I would think that the dollar stores are doing more business than ever before and qualified personnel need to be instilled instead of positon hungry mongrels with no respect for her/his employees...good luck to you all!
I agree, Kelly! You all need to band together and fight for what is right! They've gotten away with it for so long that it's the norm for them ... they need to be stopped! I'm not a lawyer but I do know that Iowa is a right to hire and fire state, which stinks! I don't know about the other states, but have any of you spoken with a lawyer to see if anything can be done about this problem?
well to be honest all of this has gotten out of hand i think dollar general is getting away with alot and corporate don't give a damn one person can speak up but alot more people may make a difference then again they may not but you never know till its tried anyone can go for unemployment when it boils down to it tho it's the princible of it i think people who have been put through all this such as me need to fight back and it will take more than one person it's time they realized they cant just turn a blind eye and get away with the things they are geting away with anyone wanna join the fight
shavon, sounds like they used you to me! This new boss seems to want corrupt employees instead of ones that go by the book...I'm wondering if that's how this new boss got her position? I mean, sounds like maybe you were a threat to her in some way in HER mind and she was trying to run you out of the store...It's too bad when they won't uphold their devoted employees.
Jason, somehow I find it hard to believe you are 17... what's it to you anyway that these people are having complaints about Dollar General UNLESS you are in management yourself or a BRAT of management...I see NO complaints from you about Dollar General on this forum post but you sure have a lot to say about the ones that have a ligitimate "gripe" with the company...every word that comes out of your mouth is against those that have complaints...AND you think just because of ones sexual preference that it affects their work performance? You need to go back to the sandbox little man...if you are even male...one can be anyone they want to be on the net; any age or any gender BUT a true ### shows through by the way one expresses themselves and Jason, If they laid your brain on the edge of a razorblade, it would look like a bee-bee rolling down a 4- lane highway...now finish your bottle, the night light will be turned on soon as you listen to rock a bye baby...and please try to keep a dry diaper tonight!

It was by far the worsest expirience yet in dollar general and please excuse the capital letters and the abscence of periods and exclamation points. First thing I hear is dont skate in the store. Ok fine she says it three times by the first time my sons had stopped we walked towards the curtain isle and here comes mrs. Assistant manager cursing like a sailor, and in front of three children she `grabs all the curtains and of the shelf and starts throwing them on the floor cursing at the fact that they where opened she totally disregards children are present by the time I get to the front im so mad ause noit for one minute had she stopped to take a breath of positive air and when I explain to the cashier the prices are ringing up wrong here comes assistant manager beneath her breath stating that I dont know how to read I mean im not the best at typing but at reading im very good at it. Well I went off and threaten to file a very hugr complaint so here I am. Please help her name it lookde to be sandra but she had a sticker placed over some letters

On February 10 I bought a 'Wireless Gear' mobile phone charger 'for use with all Motorola, Nextel, and Blackberry phones' at Dollar General. I paid $7.00 plus tax. The charger would not work with my Motorola TFC139B. The next day I carried it back to Dollar General.
I was told that Dollar general does not warrant electronics, and that I would have to call the technical 'support' number on the merchandise box. Reluctantly, I did. There was no toll-free number, so I decided to spend a little extra to confirm what I already knew--'there is no one available to take your call.' This was on Wednesday morning at 9:00 and 9:20 AM CDT. If there is no one at these times, most likely there will never be.
But there was a remedy! I could return the merchandise (at my expense) to the importer with a $5.95 shipping/handling fee under the terms of 'ESI Cases and Accessories'' 'lifetime warranty.' No thanks! Being ripped off once in one week is enough.
In effect, Dollar General is selling cheap electronics at a not-too-cheap price with absolutely no customer support. Dollar General will not warrant it. The 'world's largest manufacturer of cellular and IPod accessories' did not have anyone to answer the phone in the middle of the week, but they have an air-tight 'lifetime warranty, ' if you are sucker enough to exercise it.
Over the past ten years, I have bought a little over $200.00 in electronic merchandise at Dollar General. Never again! That will cost them a lot more than seven bucks. How many hundreds or thousands of people will read this? How many of them will avoid electronic merchandise at Dollar General? Circuit City shot itself in the foot with this kind of customer service. Dollar General, take heed.

F DOLLAR GENERAL
For my experience the dollar general in manhiem pennsylvania, jipps you off every time you get to the register you end up paying more than the retail price said on the shelf.Looks like thier rippen there customers off whom they say they care about. False advertisement!
I've bought one too..didnt work.
The two comments above from Dollar General employees are a perfect example of how inconsistent Dollar General is - one person at one store believes that this return is acceptable while another at presumably another store believes it's not because some twobit district manager somewhere said so. I've decided to stop shopping at DG myself, after I was recently asked to show ID for a ONE DOLLAR PURCHASE on a Visa card because "it's our policy, we have to ask" even though I've NEVER been asked for ID before and they asked NOBODY else for ID who was in line in front of me using credit cards for signature-based purchases. I have news for you, Dollar General: With the lackluster product variety you have and in our current economic climate, you would be foolish to drive customers away with on-the-fly policymaking that does nothing but drive shoppers away. You need us more than we need you.
DG is a rotten company not only for their customers but employees are treated horribly. I suggest that you don't shop there.anymore. wish they would close them all down
I work for DG as well and the policy is that we DO NOT refund car chargers or any other items that have been opened, receipt or not. That is per my DM per her RM and so forth. There are too many returns on stuff like that as it is and our stores were taking to big a loss to keep doing it.
But that doesn't mean I sucker customers into buying products even I know probably won't work for them. Since we sell only four types of chargers, I make sure I ask a few questions before recommending one and my associates are instructed to do the same. These chargers will not work on the newer models of the brands in particular, for example and we point this out. The same goes for Tracfones. They do not work in my area and anytime a customer asks about one, I don't recommend it to them.
But then you have the ones who won't take your advice, buy the product anyway and come back the next day wanting their money back. I tell them no. They complain and I still refuse. My DM said no and I'm not losing my job over excessive Tracfone returns. We lose money on them when we take them back. It's the reason they had to have the big promotion where you got the phone for a penny if you bought $30 in minutes. Too many people were returning them, ultimately costing DG money as the companies had to repackage a non-defective product and in turn passed the cost back to DG.
I don't care if u work there or not. I work for DG also and look if you have a receipt and the item doesn't work...give them their money back. Plain and simple.
I work for Dollar General. There is NO policy that states you can't return a cell phone charger or an eletrical product, as long as you have the reciept. If you don't have a reciept you may exchange it for any merchandise.Who ever was working at that store should be flogged. I let customers return cell phone chargers and other products on a daily basis. Dollar General is commited to making customers happy. The only thing we don't do returns on are cell phone minutes and Zone games that have been opened (Zone games can be exchanged for the same Zone game ) I would ask for Dollar Generals corporate customer service number !
consumer threatened
My Mother-in-law ( Faye) and I (Mindy) went to the Dollar General to get a few last items we forgot in our shopping. As we went to check out. Faye was going to pay first. She handed a $100 bill to pay because that is all she had on her. The cashier looked at the dollar bill and just kept looking for a long time and could not look at us in the face and said" This is a fake bill...It does not have a line through it or a face" and Faye ( nicley) said" well it better not be because it is an old dollar"..." she did not even look at the date or dollar again and said that she would have to keep the bill and she can not give it back to her..Faye said "why can 't I have it back"...and she said she will have to call police and it was policy...so we said that we will wait for the police and ask them . Well as she was calling the police she told us "whether you talk to the police or not, you will NOT GET IT BACK". She was so rude and could not look at us. We then found out she was the " Store Manager"... I did not appreciate her mean and threatening words when the police have not come to verify it yet...my mother in law was livid and really upset. When the cop came, he looked at the bill and told the store manager ( name Sherrie) that it is okay because being that the bill is older, m it will not mark with the pens because it is an older dollar...so he said it is our dollar and we could have it back...she was kinda rude to the cop too and I told the cop myself that i understand the policy deal but her attitude did not have to be that way and could of been handled differently. She still after all of that could not even apologize to Faye and she went to the back of the store...talk about customer service..how do people get away with treating customers this way and still have a job?
WE WILL NEVER BE BACK IN THAT STORE AGAIN AND WE WILL TELL ALL OF OUR FRIENDS HOW WE WERE TREATED IN THAT STORE AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT WE SEE!

I am sorry you were treated with such disregard. I work at Dollar General in MS and I would never treat a consumer with such disrepect. I am only a cashier but feel the urge to apologize for poor management skills in your store area.
I feel companies should look into complaints such as this and make the employee go through a trainging course if nothing else... to be a better service to the community that pays for the checks we receive each week.
Once again maam I am very sorry you were treated like this.

I am a associate at dollar general we had recieved a new store manager and she treats us like crap. Where I work the management robb people of their hours. I was not given a lunch break and I have my slip to prove that I worked 8 hours and 15 minutes straight. On that same day my manager fixed my time on the computer to show that I did clock out for a lunch. I called the # on the slip to only wait and find out that they really don't do anything. I am now calling another # hoping that someone can do something before they try to get rid of me. They jump on other tills and people come out short at the end of the day. They get items at red cart prices for them and their families. They get away with a lot and people like us just end up quitting or getting fired when we make our complaints. Headquarters need to make a lot of changes in the system. We are not robbing the stores, the customers are not robbing the stores, it's Dollar General's own Management that is robbing the stores in a slick kind of way. "O" and I do work to the best of my abilities, I am on time, I do not call in, I do not drink, I do not smoke, I am a hard worker that deserves better. I am complaining about store #7425 in San Antonio, Texas. Managements are Veronica T. and Mario H. ...
After three weeks I'm out after having the exact same problems at my store. The job is nothing like the ridiculous films you're forced to watch on your first day. On top of missing a few of my breaks and lunches, sweeping and mopping (when only two people close like you and your manager, and they sit behind a comfy desk while you bust your booty!). I was also snapped at like a child (once in front of customers) and had as many as 7 or 8 customers in line waiting to be checked out because this same manager was too busy stocking shelves to open up his register. My Manager was also using my register when I did go on break one day instead of using his. So much to document so little time. In any case, HE is still there with a nice cushy job while I go looking for another. Thought I was going to get some support from my Assistant Manager but as of now I've heard nothing. It's an absolute shame what some people are capable of getting away with.
CALL THE LABOR BOARD ON THIS COMPANY. CALL THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AND/OR THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION. YOU AS AN EMPLOYEE HAVE RIGHTS.
Lupe, maybe the manager is trying to do you favor? You look like you could lose a few pounds to me!
I'm from san antonio too I worked at family dollar though but they are the same thing. i was being sexually harrased by the manager in very bad ways i kept calling and complaining to "headqaurters" but had to leave messages because the guy "fidel" never answered. turned out the girl that was ok with giving it up to him didn'y like me and i ended up fired again i called to try and complainand no answer left the messagw about what happened never heard from him. i shoulve just called the police and reported this dumb pervert. and yup when ever something is going out on sale the employees(managers) take all the good stuff and leave you with crap. they take all kinds of stuff like curtains and picture for as low as 10 cents
hiring practices
Why is the manager of store number 07395 being allowed to hire her own sister to work in the same store in clear violation of company policy . The store management has been damaging products and putting them on half price racks to buy them later every since I started working there in Feb. of last year. I think that is what was behind my getting fired .I told people what was going on. That and the fact that I pointed out the fact that the assistant manager was stealing the lit. fund money and she got fired. The manager didn't like that at all.The rest You will find out when my lawyer brings suit against Dollar General.

Carole, that was REAL smart pointing out the theft by management TO management and NOT expecting some sort of reprisal.
And, elpasotexastejano is absolutely correct...if you have money to hire an attorney to take on a corporation, what the hell are you doing working for "Dollar General" in the first place?
If you're going to bluff, you have to make sure it's a believable bluff. Yours isn't.
If you ever have a thought or a brain cell that lives, you might actually make something of yourself. But then again...I doubt it.
Who care about dollar general, if you had $5000 to hire a lawyer in the first place you wouldn’t be working for a dollar store making minimum wage. Leave the Dammm place before you get old and trapped there like your managers did.
wrongful termination/discrimnation
I worked for the doolar general 6 mth n for the first couple of months I workd at the onein arlington tx off randoll mill n I got moved to the one in pantego, when I started working there my life became a living hell. The manager (Teresa) for one fired me while I was on my maternity leave for no reason at all, in fact she wouldnt even give me one in I thought it was wrong because she had a girl who was the same race as her which is white working for her n she used to leave the job in the middle of her shift without even telling anybody. And she has also stoling from the job she would come in out of dress code and teresa never fired her! The only reason why she actually let her go was because the dm told her she had to! Teresa has fire a girl of my race for going to chruch on a sunday, when I was 7mth pregnant she made me work almost 2 wks without any days off which caused me to start having labor pains while I was at the register. And she wouldnt let me go sit doen or anything unless I was lookin like I was bout to pass out! There was a time when I was at the register and I started to get really hot and dizzy and I was bout to pass out and she didnt say anything the customers had to lether know and to let me take a break, the customer was even nice enough to buy me somthing to eat and drink! Teresa wouldnt even let me go home and my asst manager shamica can tell u everything im tellin you. There was time when teresa called to the job drunk and was talking bout me to shamica, she said teresa told her she told aother manager at a diffrent store "yea, I got a pregnant girl working at my store and I make her mop and everything" I felt that was very disrespectful toward me! And she already have a other employee who works there who is going to file a lawsuit against her beacause teresa gave away her hours! And this is my first step to get rid of her from being a manager anywhere esle... And if nothing will be done about this I will be taking legal action! And if u need proof of the discrimination I have witnesses

FOR YOUR WRONGFUL TERMINATION AND DISCRIMINATION, CALL THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION AND/OR THE EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION (EEOC) - IT'S FREE. FOR WORK HOURS AND/OR SCHEDULE, CALL THE LABOR BOARD.
Yeah, there's this little thing called the "Family and Medical Leave Act" which says a company cannot fire you for going out on maternity leave. Granted, there's paper work to be filed and such, but if all that was done (and they have to do it, they cannot refuse to do this) then you get your job back after six weeks.
They never let me take a brake, but every one else got one
tired manager
I am at the point that I hate my job and I am certain most managers would agree. We suffer from the trickle down syndrome everyday, the people above us can not possibly make up their minds, not that would be too easy to do. I would like to know who comes up with some of these new "policies". Is it someone at corporate, divisional, regional, dm, or who??? I...

My name is kourtni brown and I was recently fired from dollar general in cedar rapids, IA .My hours were cut down to 11 hours a week before I was fired and my boss acted like he was trying to push me out anyways. He knew what hours I could work and continued to schedule me for hours that I couldnt. He knew I couldnt and thats why he wrote me up.I was working morning from 9:00 to 5:00 during the week and went to 4:00 to 8:30.There are many times that I have worked and not gotten payed for it because he would tell me how he was over in hours and that he would have to cheat again I have expressed myself many times about my hours and time again he said he would look at the schedule and find out, but he always pushed the issue that everything was right. And there was no point in turning it in because he would just adjust the hours like he always does the schedule.NOBODY in the store should have access to anyones hours like that. All he has to do is go into the computer and change the hours so he doesnt get in trouble. He always said the computer was write but how can it be when he can change anything he wants.I cant believe he hasnt been fired yet.I worked there since march of 2008 and he is not fit in anyway to be a manager exspecaily when he is telling his keyholders that they need to be ### to people to be in this kind of work. The girl that put here 2 weeks in around the time that I had started told me he was like this but I guess I and to judge him for myself .But she was wright.

It should be paid, not payed, and right or correct not write.
"keyholders" are assistant managers-this is just GD speak
I wish everyone could quit working for Dollar General. My advice is: Don't work there! And even if you don't work for them, DON'T shop there. It is appalling the way they treat their employees. Don't shop there until they start treating their managers right. Any employee who feels they have been treated unfairly by their manager should know it could possibly be from the stress he is under. The ones to blame are Corporate officers. The demands they place on their managers are IMPOSSIBLE to meet. I date a manager and he doesn't sleep at night and is getting an ulcer. The store he took over was a disaster and he cleaned it up and sales have doubled. I should mention that it's a crappy old building the company rents and is way too small for the amount of business it does. Corporate expects to be able to walk in there at any moment and see EVERYTHING pulled forward like no one has shopped it, and no dirt on the floor, ever! The store has no control over customers tracking dirt in after a snow or rain has fallen. They do clean it up as soon as they can. But if the district manager would walk in right after a customer had tracked in the dirt, the manager would be in trouble. They don't have enough help because they aren't allowed any more. They are so busy taking care of inconsiderate customers they can't be two places at once. My boyfriend works 60 to 70 hours a week and is on salary. That figures out to be about $5.90 an hour he's making. I wish everyone would write the company and tell them they are not shopping there anymore until they start treating their managers right. God I wish we could get the word out to everyone about this. If everyone knew how this company operated, and how terrible they are to their managers, I do believe people would boycott it.
Let us know what happens. I too go to work on time and don't call in. I work to the best of my abilities. My manager did not give me a lunch break. I worked 8hours and 15 minutes straight, I have my slip to prove it and the manager fixed it on the computer to show that I had clocked out for a lunch. I made a complaint to the number on the slip to only wait and find out they do nothing I have now called another number for help because I now will have problems with management because of my complaints. They also get red cart prices for themselves. Many other things but I hope there will be a stop the this in every store. I am in San Antonio, Texas and starting to feel hopeless the more I read these complaints...("O" and to "concerned party" I bet you don't work at dollar general or if you do you are part of the ones to blame for our issues. Post your comment on another posting, we don't care for your mindless opinions.)
Though unhappy employees quit or lead themselves to termination, they have no right to manipulate incidences in a store to examplify the manager of that specific store in a negative manner. M any of these employees have acted in a way that reflects them personally as irresponsible and have given plenty of reason for the authority in the store to react in the way that they see fit. By being late or choosing to work slower than usual are wonderful examples of this. For an employee to comment negatively on the management of a store publically without taking into consideration their own actions only shows immaturity. One is curious as to how this person will handle a more diffucult job, or how a career will ever be built with this attitude.
Amout in sealed can
I bought a 13 ounce can of Clover Valley Ground Roast Coffee today for$2.50, it was sealed, but only 1/3 full. That is not "settling". I would appreciate it if the company would make good on this. I have shopped at this store for years, but recently have been dissapointed in the quality and/or amount of product. Bonnie

I almost tripped over some merchandise stacked in an isle at the Dollar General on East Main Street in Laurens, South Carolina last Wednesday. A dollar general employee, with shoulder length stringy, brown hair, thinly built, sort of short, and around 50 years old, gave me a dirty look, rolled her eyes and walked over to a customer who she had been talking to when I first got there, and told her that I tried to purposely trip and fall so I could get some free money. If that was my intention, I would have fallen, not almost fallen. What kind of nuts are operating Dollar Generals? I put back the items that I was going to buy and left. I will not ever shop there again!
Dollar General stores in Alachua County Florida is epidemic in its customer service and general store upkeep. The last straw was when I purchased a 4-pack of socks in which two pairs had numerous holes. Returning the socks I had to endure the store managers accusation that I pulled on the plastic tie and tore the holes myself. The fact was I carefully used a pair of scissors, taking extra care as not to do the very thing this manager accused me of doing.
Other events of disgust are one person in the entire store on a busy Sunday with at least a dozen in line at the checkout. Go ahead and take whatever you want. So much for the safety of their employees.
How about the time where the aisles were literally strewn with merchandise actually heaped into a disorganized pile of various products? One couldn't even go down that aisle due to the clutter.
Here's the last one. (And there's more but I'll spare you). I was purchasing a bottle of shampoo and the cashier asks me how much it costs. "I don't know, I didn't look" I said. The cashier says "why not you should know these things". Yea, like it's my mission in life to learn all Dollar General's prices.
Message to management: How about hiring people with normal cognitive powers and not ###s? Secondly, how about training your managers and staff in customer courtesy. I highly resent the attitude and treatment of your managers and employees. Dollar General website has no customer service link! Does anyone at this corporation even care?
We have an electrical company and have done some work for Dollar General. The work was completed in November of 2007 ann we still have not been paid for the work done. We have contacted them about this and they keep giving us the run around with forms to fill out. If you are a contractor and they contact you, you might want to think twice.
