terminated
Im a store manager... Im currently under suspension pending investigation... It was said in our last meeting that they are firing anybody and everybody for anything and everything... Ok I will admit I did have someone in my store that wasnt a dg employee helping me. My dm told me to do what I had to do to get the job done, no other stores had extra people to lend, no good apps, and I was running 200-300 under payroll a week what a waste! Any store manager would agree, ya'll would die for that right? Anyways, there was nothing stolen from the store, I have camaras to prove that, during the conversation with lp, wait I failed to mention my dm had "quit" 2 days prior, who knows what really happened, ok... Lp... He stated to me and I quote "so if I contact"dms name"and remember I still have his number, he will tell me he said it was ok for you to work a non-dg employee?" I said "no, he told me to do what I had to do to get the job done" so I did.. Yes its 110% against policy but either way if my store wasnt done I was losing my job, and if I got caught working the nondg-employee I was losing my job. However, with the statement he made, contacting my former dm, means he would be discussing dg with a non-dg employee? Hmmmmmm 2 wrongs dont make a right... Our region is well I dont know how to explain it, but I will say when you have around 9 dms w / the rm, also around 150 employees cleaning up 7 stores in a 48 hr time frame for a kathleen visit, lets just put it out... Would it be safe to say renting uhaul trucks and putting rolltainers full of product in them, taking them to a disclosed location for 24-48 hrs (Until kathleen was back home) without a outgoing transfer against policy? That could fall under employee theft, it was removed from stores by dms w / rms permission... Ok so it was brought back... I saw it leave, but never saw it return... So I will lose my job for struggling in a store that cant keep a manager... I run a perfect store before I agreed to take this one... Never any problems (After I got it model) I was one of the lucky ones... And dms and rm will keep their... I see a problem w / this... Not to mention that lp went outside and yelled at one of my employees she wasnt even clocked in... I just dont get it guys...
Update*since I first posted this... I was fired for stuff the rm and dms allowed also... And now im finding out that the manager previous to me was making 2, 000 more per year than what I was... He was only with the company 6 months...
Id fire myself to! Of course I truely believe that laws of this nature really need to be taught to all...I never heard of this law until the day i was suspended...i didnt even know about that labor poster until I stumbled on it on a website...DG please train managers BETTER is all im asking
Yes I understand that NOW...i admitted to it all...as you could see, i apparently learned to do it from someone...they need to practice what they preach...I know of 4 other stores in the district that are doing the same thing right now today...

district manager
I was working for them part-time to help with finances due to my husband losing his job and after finding another was much lower in pay.
I honestly can say I have never heard such rules and stipulations in the workplace.
Cell phones I understand, uniforms/clothes specifications ok no big deal, but... No employee is allowed to buy any! Product after 6pm, to take home. Period. Why? If u keep sales recpt and manager cks you out. Why do the employees have to go elsewhere to buy products that is sold right there? Nobody knows if family calls and needs bread, medicine etc after 6pm. Also there is no! Support from district managers to their staff. Yes I understand the customer is right but, , , , not all the time. There is a line there and they should take up for us to some extent if it is crossed. I watched an incident, we wont go into here, and confronted the person, after that is was chaos! I was never talked to by dist. Manager for my side only asked for written report... He watches camara ok fine, nobody should have to take the abuse I took and stand there quietly, then to have the person say they are not going to stop until they have my job! Well congratulations you got it! But by my choice. There is no employer/employee connection at all. The employees are robots, not humans. Watch cash register but stock shelfs, dont make customers wait, but dont stand and do nothing, come on... There is no mirrors, or bells for customers to ring but I guess we are to have esp or something to know when someone is at cash register. And show no emotions when your being attacked for doing your job. Oh and if you are a cashier you better check with your immediate supervisor to make sure what you can and can't do. Because if you witness something suspicious you better just ignore it because your not allowed to acknowledge it, because your cashier... Don't know how they expect to win cases in court without eyewitness but they know best huh?... Sorry for sounding off but what is happening to our world today. Our we so greedy that we want to get what we want no matter who it hurts or destroys... As in my case, makes it harder to live, because you do not qualify for any state/county assistance. Hope your satisfied lady. God bless you and yours, because I know he has me. Thank you for a blessing in disguise. What you intended as harm as been a gift to me. Have a great day. Jp 10-07-2010
general manager stealing
This is a copy of the message I sent to Dollar General and if I receive a reply it will be posted as well. Although I doubt that I will get one and if I actually do I will probably receive some generic "we are sorry for your experience" reply. I wanted to let you know that you have a Manager employed at the Wyoming, IL location who may be stealing. I also...

I entered the store, visible employee, said good morning, amended to good afternoon. I was accompanied by my husband who is white. I am a black female. I had no purse or coat as its summer in Texas. sweats so no pockets. The cashier followed me to the aisle I was in, busily doing nothing, just looking at the shelves. I dismissed it as coincidence but as she...

So far, I am 22 years old, I have worked retail since I have been 16, I have worked for many other business like shopko, pamida, caseys general stores (At casey's I was able to obtain a assistant managers posistion) , and now dollar general... Dg so far has to be the worst store I have ever worked for, I have more experience than most of the people working there and yet was hired on as a key carrier, but still haven't even been promoted to that posisition so I wonder when or if that will happen, the lack of trust the entire company sees in employees is unbelievable, there is no need my jacket/lunch pail needs to be searched when my shift is over to see if I have stole anything, the dm makes a point to come into the store to watch the employees on the security cameras to see if we are doing anything wrong. The company policy where I cannot have something to drink with me at the register, that it has to be in the break room at all times, is total crap or when i'm expected to stock a rolltainer an hour while being lead cashier is another load of bull. Simple things such as me not being able to void an item off a ticket, that I have to call a mod up to do, is extremely inefficient. Also another thing I dislike is the dollar general literacy fund.. You are pretty much forced to beg for donations after each sale, and if you don't you will be written up, total bs.

I am 32 years of age have worked since I to was 16. I heard people complain about working for Dollar General and honestly I thought, they were baby's and didn't have the experience to work there. After working 1 week I apologize to anyone I thought that about. It is a freakin joke working for them. Where I worked there were only allowed 2 people to work at a time. Non management people have to do everything...and I mean everything but paperwork and deposits. I had to put up roll carts, watch for theft, mop floors, clean bathrooms, move roll carts and set up outside, front shelves, recoveryand that was all while waiting on ALL CUSTOMERS. I thought it was just the store I worked for but, after talking to people from the other 5 local stores that is the way they are all ran in the area. You get min, wage to work your tail off and be treated as a theif and a no body. With out there employees they would have no store's. This is the worst job I have ever had! I will no longer shop at ANY Dollar general, they will no longer get my money and I just recently quit. You know they have alot of merchandise walking out the doors but I guarantee its not the employees its the customers because the cashiers are running around with way to much to do and can not greet the customers properly or actually spend any time watching them.
I also work for dg and agree with all your complaints. The company is ridiculously overzealous in their pursuit of catching employees breaking company policy. The fact that we cannot even purchase a soda in the middle of a shift without clocking out is absurd. If corporate spent half the effort they put forth watching employees work into building a solid relationship with over worked underpaid loyal emploees things would run alot smoother. People get tired of working their tails off for an unappreciative company that treats us all like thieves
Sounds like you should have looked into company policies a little more before you hired on. My guess is that you have no where near the experience the people that work there have or you would understand the DG policies when it comes to protecting their inventory. Most retail corporations have the same sort of policies to protect their assets. Typically employees that complain about these type of policies are the ones that have something to hide... the product they are walking out the door with. I live in Crete and know that some of those ladies have been there since the store opened - nearly 10 years ago. Therefore your complaints that you have more experience is simply ridiculous. My guess is they were in retail before you got out of diapers. The problem is you are 22 and have yet to grasp the ins and outs of running a retail operation. Grow up.
new management
when i first started things were great except we had no manager and worked 10 days in a row with only 1 day off but was getting close to 40 hrs a week and everyone working there was happy and we all got along. Then they brought a new manager into the store. Hes very lazy and I believe not a very honest person. He wanted to take some of the pressure of working 10 days in a row and give us 2 days a wk off so he brought in his best friends daughter in to work part time. Then all of a sudden he started cutting my hours and i have to work 30 hrs a wk to get insurance and thats the reason i took the job at min wage is for the ins. The new girl wasnt even there 2 wks and already called off and he wanted me to stay and work her hrs and i told him no because he cut my hrs because of her and he told me he wasnt done cutting my hrs. The job is getting very stressful and uncomfortable to go to. The bad thing is is no one seems to care except me because i will no longer have ins. I may have to quit and go elsewhere because they do not treat their employees very well.
yes im a consumer that shops there every day and the main kathy dont know last name manager, is very rude and talks about things that should not be heard from a payin consumer.. like talkin on the phone about drinkin beer or drugs... and sayin that is cant get anything done because of dealin with consumers.. she does not need a job like that.. she neds something behind closed doors... i will not shop there again...but on a good note besides of the manager the cashies and other managers are great...
I purchased this cat food from the Dollar General in Turbeville, SC. I'm having to dump this cat food out of my cats bowl on a daily basis due to it crumbling to dust when my cats try to eat it. I'm highly disappointed that this is even on the shelves. I usually buy better cat food, but was on a tight budget this go around. It was a complete waste of my money. I had to dish out more money to get another bag of food. Will never buy this again and wish I could get my money back.
I shop the Urbana Ohio store on a regular basis, at least 2-3 times a week., Today I asked a girl that was stocking shelves the price of a can of apples that were not marked, she said she had no idea what the price was, and turned back around and went on doing what she was doing. She didn't offer to go check the price or anything. When I was checking out I mentioned this to the checkout girl and she said that's our new manager, I said seriously, she was rude and not at all concerned about the customers. May be a long time before I go back. Today is October 27, 2017. In my opinion this person is not a good fit for your store.
WOW. You wanna see a drama show? Come to Vandalia, IL Dollar General. Soap Opera plus starring the Mgr, and her grandbabys mama lead cashier...boy, dont this take the cake. Control freak refusing and threatening NOT to give breaks (illegal as I'll get out), claims to forget employee breaks, refuses to stock bags for consumer products? That really floors me...we want customers, but no bags to their purchases in? What a joke! What a freak show this store is!
I had walked in the store and no one talked to me and the store was so nasty I would never go back to a dollar genearl to shop I think the store can be better I have all ways shoped their and the old team was nice now the team was not noce to me at all so please make a store vist to that store soon as you can!
We have 3 dollar generals in our city. I live closest to the one on N. Fifth st. I went there last night to purchase a few items and couldn't believe the shape of the store. This was not the first time. I couldn't even get through the ailses because of carts with product in them and ladders and such. Another time I was in there and someone had vomited in a mop bucket and it was left on the shelf. That store is in deplorable condition. I told the manager what I thought and he said he just started one month prior. There is no call for that kind of filth in a public store. I hope something gets done abou it.
I was wondering when Dollar General became the Local Wal-mart. Prices are just as high as going to Wal-Mart and sometimes even higher. The price of a 14ounce drink is $1.65. Wow, ya no, i think I will take my business elsewhere. I walked to the check out counter ans waited over 5 minutes, before I had to go find an employee, who then never said, Hello or how are you. Very rude and disorganized store. I will continue shopping at Wal-Mart where the prices are ALOT CHEAPER.
The employee yelled out the store ### and when I confronted him he thought it was funny. I asked him for the manager he told me to get him myself. When the manager came out and I confronted him he told me that his employee is mad because his replacement is always late. I wanted him to confront the employee, but he said he was on a time schedule to worry about the milk delivery and he was going home soon. I kept asking him to confront the young man. But instead was told to leave and not come back into the store. I was kicked out for telling the employee and manager Keith to handle it.
One of your employees does not conduct herself as a good employee by the name of vanessa osborn, she is mouthy, and complains about her job on facebook.
My husband and I was sitting in the parking lot of this dollar general store in muskogee, ok and one of the employees walked up to the door and pulled her pants down. While I was shopping she constantly had her phone in her hand and was standing around doing absolutely nothing but texting on her phone. Her dress code was in violation as she had her shirt pulled above her navel and has piercings and tattoos showing all over her torso area. Very bad business. Will not be back.
was refused job application because in college
My 21 year old daughter went in for a job application and the manager asked how old she was and if she was in college and when she relpied yes, she refused her the application saying she can hire a college student. i thought that was rediculous! my daughter only will be going to school 2 hours aday. they can at least give her a try! i worked at a dollar general of few years ago my self and quit because the manager was a complete idiot. she was a bad manager didn't know what she was doing. when i first started working there she said i'd be givin a couple cart full of merchandice to put away during my shift, ok, she said anything that was in my cart that was to be put towards back of store i should give to the other employee to put away because i need to be up from always watching the counter to check people out, ok, i fully agree with that, about a month later i went to give the other girl an item to put in back and the manager very rudly said for me to go ahead and just put it away even if it goes in the back to not give it to the other girl from now on, then i get yelled at for being in the back putting this stuff away (i can see what s going on in the front when im having to put stuff away in the back) and not being up from when customers are wanting to check out.. and at this location there is constantly customers in it... my thoughts are, hire 1 person to be at registar at all times, and 1 person to stock! its not fair to expect the cashier to be at reg and be in back putting things away at such a busy location!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
wow do i just work in one of the only stores in the country that has a GM and DM that have a clue?
First of all, they can't refuse anyone to fill out an application...regardless of whether they are hired or not they CAN fill one out.
Secondly, they are NOT allowed to ask a persons age! The only thing they can ask is whether someone is over the age of 18.
Last, I totally agree with what you are saying about running the register and expected to put up merchandise. I just quit my Assistant Manager position a week or so ago because of issues in my store. You know why they don't have a stocker, cashier and manager at the same time? If they hired more people, the District Manager doesn't get as big of a bonus...save payroll but make sure the store is model condition. The issues in my store forced me to quit and go to the NAACP. I am white but the issues going on in this store...OMG!
At least 90% of the managers are incompetent. They push all the work on everyone else and they just look busy. My manager was prime example. The stories I could tell about Dollar General...
FYI don't complain to anyone...you will lose your job.
unproffessional management
I have been working here for 2 months and the management is poor. They have this one manager ms. Julie who has no people skills and is extremely rude to everyone. She mumbles when shes talks and acts like you are bothering her for everthing! Please for the love of god never get a job at dollar general, works not supposed to be fun but working here is is hell. Its not even the treatment of employees, but, the amount of hours they give u which is ridiculous average 10-12. How do expect a family to survive on that kind of salary. The managers are very greedy and are taking all the hours for themselves becasue if they would just allow all of the employees to vois items and do returns then there would be no need for them to just walk around anyway and act like they are working and getting health benefits. They are so ###ing lazy,. Wow it must be so great being a manager of a dollar store and to still be a cashier and stocker. Thats why hate all the younger employees becasue they see hw much oppurtunity they have left to actually do something with their life istead of waiting around in a tacky dollar store to be promoted. Time to go to college u dont have to be a brain surgeon to be a simple manager low life dollar store!
wow u know what if any of yall had actually went to college and had done something with ur miserable lives, u wouldnt be complaining about working in retail. I mean seriously, how can anybody complain about stuckup management when they actually went to college and got a degree to get their position at work. they dont want to hear ur excuses, or any of ur medical probelms, they just want to see people who actually like to work and not ### about how they arent paid enoigh. Just be lucky u have a job,

The dollar general store "manager" in 2727 Edenborn at Metairie is a rude woman she needs to do her job right instead of talking on her cell phone, and help customer out I always buy at this store but after her attitude with my 4 years old daughter for touching a toy never ever to buy here again, she should put sign on every shelves that says"do not touch anything "very unprofessional woman, not good manners at all.Get off that phone lady and stop telling people your business, customer do not need to know all that and be professional and get your nasty attitude right.
I was an assistant manager for Dollar General, and just had an experience with the cash registers rebooting themselves, I called the store manager, and she kept asking me what is going on, of course, I ended up calling tech support, which did not help at all, The store manager said she was too far from the store to come in and take care of the problem, It's her store and her responsibility... This was so stressful that I had to resign. I'm now suing the store manager and the company for lost wages, because of this incident and never being trained on how to handle this situation.
The following day after I resigned, the store manager sent me a text, that said I wasn't responsible enough to handle the situation, of course dip ### I wasn't trained, how much more of friggin ### can you be.
Your a solid gold idiot. The Store Manager is the only one who makes the schedule and they don't want the hours they work because they are on salary you ###. That means they don't get paid for all the extra hours they work doing your job and that of 6 other people because their staff is too lazy to do what they are supposed to be doing. And it's not up to management to let cashiers do voids or anything of that sort because the majority of you people would steal and pocket money left and right. In retail 70% of all theft is INTERNAL, this is why we trust our employees less than we do the customers.
lock the doors
Last evening I was going to DG and it was 7:51PM. Thank god it was an hour before closing. Got to the store, ran to the door and it was locked. Then I realized that the employees were sitting inside the window laughing. Looked around on windows to see if there was a special message and nothing. RAn back to the car as I knew I could make it to Pamida. Then I noticed the guy putting a sign about 3"x5" on door. Anyway, went to Pamida and was telling of my experience and Sharon, the Pamida clerk had told me of others who came in an hour before me, telling the same story. NOw had they been sitting outside smoking as they always are, they could have kept us informed/ They could have even swept their cigarette butts off the city sidwalk. Poor management here folks.
It is not their job to sweep cigarette butts off the city sidewalk. That is the up to the city to maintain the sidewalks. From the sidewalk to the curb is city property. You should quit being Algorish of the situation. Were talking about cigarette butts not a freaking bomb. As a rule of thumb, I try not to get their during the last hour of business. The registers could have had problems, had a situation, or had to close early for inventory. Now if I were treated disrespectfully while inside dollar general I would let it be known, call for a manager, and follow the chain of command if appropriate. Though I have a current beef with Dollar General about management and customer service that went unanswered, yours seems quite frivolous. As far as laughing at you, well did you demand to come in there, despite the doors were locked? and wait there. I have seen that happen firsthand at Hollywood Video, but come on it is not life or death here. Go to another location or somewhere else. Nitpicking will get you nowhere.
way they treat employees
I have family that work at Dollar General. They were full time employees, had health insurance, life insurance, etc. That is until a area manager decided that some employees needed to be listed as parttime. NOW no one said anything to employee about this being changed! A call to insurance company about finding a new doctor, only to be told that YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE! Reason you were removed from full time status to part-time. No I'm sorry you have no insurance. Oh, another company handles insurance for part-time employees. Call to store and was told area manager had told manager to change some employees from full time to part-time DIDN"T REALIZE IT WOULD MESS UP INSURANCE! But call company that handles part-time insurance. That call was made told SORRY NOTHING I CAN DO, YOU CAN'T ENROLL UNTIL OPEN ENROLLMENT IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS! BUT YOU CAN GET COBRA UNTIL THEN! Now no health insurance and no money for medicine. They also will not let you work more than 20 hours even when status is full time. After reading all the complaints about Dollar General and the way they treat all employees, I wonder when top officals will step in and clean up this mess. OH, THAT'S RIGHT THEY ARE MAKING GOOD MONEY CAN'T BE BOTHERED!

I see a lot of the same callous attitude towards employees and customers in the Dollar General Store in Liberty, MO. I shop this store frequently as it is convenient and cost effective.
But the one main draw back to shopping this store is the Manager callous attitude towards customers.
She always contradicts the customer and offers excuses not solutions .
She has the personality of a grizzly bear her demeanor is always sarcastic and confrontational..
I am not sure why she feels that she must have this type of demeanor in dealing with the customers.
But hey I guess we are wrong that is how you keep customers by being rude and confrontational.
I doubt very seriously if Dollar General knowingly tolerates this type of behavior.
I work at dollar general and I am sick and tired of the DM threatening to fire us all the time for stuff that she is just letting us know about and who do we listen to our store manager or the DM? And why should we get fired for doing what we are told to do by the manager? The store phone doesn't work over half the time so we have to use our cell phones, but now we are being told if we use our cell phones we will be fired. In the hand book it says we are two smoke breaks during our shift, but now we are being told if caught smoking we will be fired. Also our safe does not work properly but if its opened before we lock their door we are fired. The stupid list goes on and on. Its not just the policies they are coming up with for employees but also their stupid rules for how we deal with customers. Dg's policies suck for customers and employees. Wish I had of never took this job. I'm tired of my job always being at risk for stupid stuff they come up with.
Dee Hayes is Georgia: what did it matter the point of the associate being white and the little girl being black? Woman and child will suffice to the story. Pointing out race suggests YOU are suggesting racial controversy. Really?! Next! Grown woman, little girl, same point made. The end.
I am from Ohio and was in the Austintown Plaza store as a buying customer. I requested the use of the restroom, and was told I could go next door to the Goodwill store, because their (Dg's) was in the back of the store, well I am an ex-manager of 8 years of DG, and I am sure the policy is that no one is denied the use of restrooms. I was in extreme need of restroom, and told clerk, Pattie, that I know we should be able to use restroom, any time. I do know that I will never patronize that store again, and NO I am not a disgruntled employee. I went out due to severe colitis and under no circumstances should I or any customer be denied the use no matter where yur restroom is located. I was in the store June 1st, approx. 5 p.m. I hope you address this so no other customer is denied.
I was at the Dollar General at 3190 Atlanta Hwy Ste 20 (Athens, GA) when I witnessed a disorderly Caucasian store attendant yelling at a little African-American girl (approximately 6 years old) because she was playing with toy in the store. The attendant did not show any decorum as it related to the little girl feelings. Then, she snatched the toy from the little girl’s hand while repeatedly yelling that this is not a playground. I am not seeking for the attendant to lose her job, but it appears that she is in dire need of learning the true aspects of customer service. Please help her to receive some form of (1) Sensitivity Counseling (2) Anger management and (3) Customer Service (professional) training classes.
My initial goal was to purchase a few items from the store, but after watching the store attendant carrying on rudely and disrespectfully, I, too, left the store without my merchandise. If this situation is not immediately dealt with, then it is fair to say that the store stands to lose a substantial amount of business.
This sounds a little fishy to me. No company can legally change you from full to part time without informing you. It seems highly unlikely that a company as huge as Dollar General would "forget" to inform an employee of such change, especially since the repercussions of this would be huge if it were true. It sounds more like an employee wasn't paying attention when said information was provided to them, or maybe they bothered not to read it. I mean, to call up your insurance company and find out you suddenly have no insurance? Didn't you notice the premiums were no longer taken out of your check? Since this account wasn't directly from the employee, but "family" of the person writing it, I would say that the truth was most likely stretched to make the employee less accountable. I DO NOT doubt that they were changed from full-time to part-time against their will but A. I'm sure that they were informed of the change and B. I'm sure that they were given documentation or notice about the change in benefits. And not being able to enroll in the part time coverage? Well by law you have 30 days to re-enroll in the new coverage offered, if you don't do it within 30 days of the status change, yes, you either have to get COBRA, or wait until next years enrollment period. Sounds to be like someone procrastinated, then got screwed, then tried to blame it on the company by bad mouthing them to a naive "Granny12". Or at least that's what my 10+ years in human resources tells me.
To the employee that was getting the 40 hrs. did that person read the handbook if so they would have known that only salary managment get 40 +hrs. a week I to work for dollar general & of course things are not going to always go your way you have problems on every job be blessed to have a job and to be able to provide for youeself and family.
management and the drama
I've been with dollar general for almost 2 months now and the store I work at is simply bad. The 3rd key has been there longer than I have and this guy is literally taking a beating. The assitant manager and one of the other cashiers have made plans to have him fired because they don't like him. Going so far as going behind him and messing things up...

Dollar general Store In Armuchee GA. ha a red headed employee who complains always/makes customers wait. Register charges the wrong price and price is marked incorrectly as i check thoroughly. This pony tailed red head with an attitude keeps me waiting and i have actually had to find her to check out actually charged the wrong price for curtains again and told me how they make change for a hundred like i care because i handled cash all my life with no mistakes. Correct the register prices. prices listed and this steady complaing rude red head who acts like she is dying due to work. She is rude and the manager is in the back busy & this rude person put me in an empty line while calling the manager to refund the money she over charged me. This person has been at this Armuchee Ga. Dollar General store a while & should know the ropes by now.I assume she is a mental health release who is employed for tax deductions or discrimination policies.Any how she has long orangish red hair kept in a ponytail at the armuchee store in GA. on Martha berry Hwy. with a strong southern accent. You can't miss her. I should feel good after shopping instead of upset by being insulted by a discount store employee.Know i know why folks pay more just to have civil people wait on them and receive customer service.I don't expect anything will be done about this rude employees behavior or about the prices marked or the register errors so i will shop else where.Sincerely Karen Woods

i had been feeding my two dogs everpet dog food for some time. i noticed the little female dog began losing a lot of weitht, hair coming out on hip hips with scaly sores underneath. i took her off everpet and started feeding her iams dog food. she immediately began putting her weight back on and her hair is growing. i am so sorry i put my dog through this. i will never use these products again.
Actually there are several instances of pet food having salmonella. Since my son has been sick from it for 5 days now I've been doing alot of Further research brushing up on the subject an d you might want to have them checked. And to stealth you posted on th BK post that smonella is only in chicken when in fact you are wrong. Salmonella can come from a leaky roof with bird droppings in the water then get in or on anything snd contaminate it... It can come from feces if people don't wash their hands, it can come from 100 different things other than just chicken. Do your research before you post on serious matters.

I purchased ever pet scoopable cat liter. It is a good clumping cat liter unlike most, however it says it has odor control. the first time my cat ever used the liter it immediatly gave the room the worst lingering odor. I have never used a cat liter that did this. I clean the liter box several times a day and the odor just lingers. I was using scoop away witch has very good odor control, I thought I would try this to save a little money. I guess you get what you pay for. I also have been feeding my cats this same brand cat food, after reading the other complaints, I think I will throw it out and get the good stuff my cats are definitly worth the extra cash when it comes to their health.

Everytime I go into the Dollar General it wreaks of perfume. The bread wrappers, the cat food, the women's pads (which cause irritation) . I have severe asthma. I will not be shopping at the Greene or Whitney Point, N.Y.. I think it is in the warehouse or trucks. I will not recommend this store. I'm surprised no one has sued.
cashier refuses to sell a child's ball to a disabled woman
Today my mother and I visited the Dollar General store # 11726 on Hwy 311 in Sellersburg. My mother recently had a total hip replacement and is on a walker. She visited your store looking for a child's ball of just the right size to use for her physical therapy. She found one that was perfect for her and, after doing a little more shopping, we went up to the register to purchase it.
The cashier took one look at the ball and immediately said, "It ain't gonna let you purchase it!" She scanned it once, put the ball aside, and said, "Nope, ain't gonna let you purchase it. You want to get another one?" I explained to the cashier that the ball was for my mother's physical therapy and it was just the right size for her to use. She just looked at us with indifference and asked if there was another ball the same size we'd like.
So my mother, on her walker, had to go back to the aisle again and look to try and find another ball while the cashier left her station to make copies for what appeared to be a vendor in the store. She was so frustrated at this point that she was going to walk out without any of her purchases had she repeated that performance with the second ball. Luckily it did ring up but we received no apologies from the cashier or explanation of why we couldn't purchase the first ball other than the UPC wouldn't scan.
I don't understand this at all. If the ball is in a rack for sale, has a UPC on it, and has a price tag on it (which was the same price as the ball we ultimately purchased), what reason could you possibly have for not selling a piece of merchandise? Add to this her insensitive treatment of a disabled person, it seems like a slap in the face.
I feel like we deserve an explanation of why this happened the way it did today. An employee of this company upset a long term customer (she's been shopping with them as long as I can remember), all over a $2.50 ball she only wanted for her therapy.
Why didn't YOU walk back for her instead of making her walk is my question...
Brown and stealth are right they could get fired because of something so stupid.
Sorry about your unfortunate experience with Dollar General. I can say that the ball wasn't sold because it had been recalled. The system wouldn't let the cashier sell it. She could have explained that but what do you expect, she works for a company who only hires lazy, rude and incompetent staff. Yes, I worked at DG up until about a week ago when I had enough of the company.
Hey TROLL, I would love to meet you.It would be your last look at a human you piece of CRAP!
No one cares about your cripple mother. In some societies the elderly do the nobel thing and kill themselves once they become a burden to their relatives. In the time it took you to write this stupid story you could have euthanized her already.
You should have asked to see the manager. I would have like to hear her excuse for not allowing you to buy that ball.
There really was no excuse for this kind of behavior. She could have gotten a price check and manually input the price.

Dollar General Market three times in the past 6 weeks I have purchased Pineapple juice from the Dollar General Market in New Port Richey, Fl. The sign by the can says $1.60. When you check out the price rings up at $1.90. Each time I tell the cashier they look for the manager, but the manager is busy. I explain to them someone needs to change the price by...
Read full review of Dollar Generalpoor training/bad management
I survived nearly 3 weeks at Dollar General. Hired as a store manager, I turned down offers of prospective employment to accept their "promising" offer. I was trained at a near model store almost 40 miles away from my home. The training manager was very abrubt, and seemed to spend most of her time on her cell phone taking care of her personal business. Her store had a large staff and a sufficient amount of keyholders with the ability to do overnight shifts and stock blitzes. I felt I was going into a great organization, and held the torch high. However, after 1 week of training, I expressed my concerns to the regional manager that it would benefit me more to go finish my training at the store I would be placed in, as I understood it to be a "problem" store, and it would be beneficial for me to understand what processes were in place for a full recovery, as well as the regular day to day balance of workload I was to expect. He brushed me off and seemed to think continuing my training in the near model was more beneficial. I finished my training, but still I felt that the training was very slipshod, but I was ready to conquer my store. Upon arriving at my new conquest, it was so disheartening to see just how bad it had been let go. My only keyholder had worked 77 hours that week and was demanding time off, and this left me with 3 part time employees. Over 2 weeks of stock in the stockroom, and empty store shelves. I pitched in and rallied the team to get stock. It was then that I discovered that the district that hired me was not the district I was going into, and there was no district manager, only a series of training managers that would arrive at the store to berate, belittle, and harass both myself and my team, usually in front of customers. My first day there, I had one man who obviously had never worked retail in his life screaming at me and my other part time associate about stocking shelves, when we were the only 2 employees in the building, and running a brisk $8K Saturday. When I explained to him the need for staff, and that it was only my first day in the building, he would have none of that. I was told that I would need to "borrow" associates from other stores in my district.
So I called the other stores in my district. Half of them were running with no store managers, and the others were running with no more than 4 or 5 employees. So I had to call the district manager that had originally hired me and he, as a good district manager does, helped. Day 2 in my store was no better, as I had 2 other district managers in training to show up, both of them being very reactive and unhelpful. Add to that I was to hire additional staff with a payroll budget that would barely pay for the 4 I had on the payroll. But always the optimist, I trudged forward. It was about this time I started discovering things that began to bother me. An office piled high with paper and product that I had no idea what it was. The only bathroom in the place had 5 carts of merchandise and open food in it, one "working" toilet that would not flush, and no place to wash your hands. The only breakroom in the building was a moproom filled with store fixtures that was inaccessible, and mired with crates of product that had been stowed away and forgotten. Mountainous piles of broken or damaged product, open food, chemical that I had no idea what it was. A loss prevention NIGHTMARE that I would have to take responsibility for, and I voiced my concerns to these training district managers, whereupon I was told I needed to pick my battles. One HHT unit that was inoperable for 4 days, making receiving product impossible, and add to that food on store shelves 2 years or more expired. Day 3 was worse, as I had yet another training manager warn me about the regional visit that was coming on Friday, and I expressed my concerns that we would need a task force to enter and do overnights to get ready, and I was told payroll cannot afford that. Once again, I was picked apart by this guy, and was feeling lethargic. What on earth had I entered into? As I had worked the next day, I found myself having to leave the store at almost midnight, alone, in one of the most unsavory areas of the town. Have I mentioned theft? OMG--i could walk the aisles 50 times a day and retrieve over a hundred bucks of open packages where customers had taken items. This last manager said that our theft deterent was us doing recovery every 15 minutes by an egg timer...with 2 people in the building and shelves to stock, I was assuming I would need to have eyes in the back of my head and grow 4 more sets of arms.
The next day, another screaming training district manager comes in before I arrive, and leaves me a 5 page list of things to do before the next day. With no help. My commitment to this company went down the tubes. Have I mentioned that these dm's in training are giving me no support? Ive been in retail for over 17 years, and I know that if a district manager sees you struggling, its his job to "inspire" you, and to roll up his sleeves and help you out, not to tear you down, harass you, or rile the crew into mutiny.
My poor crew. Before I came, they were getting no lunch break, no 15 minute break, and were overworked to the point of exhaustion. I prompty gave them their due breaks and was told it was the first time they had ever had a break, some in their 2 or more years with DG. Having to sit in their hot cars or walk to another store in the seedy strip mall to take their lunch breaks, or use the bathroom. Having to wash their hands from a cold water spigot outside the plaza. Abominable.I also made sure they were scheduled for days off, at my own expense, having to forgo any break or day off. Oh, I was told to catch up 5 months of planograms by working 7 days straight doing double shifts. The suggestion of this was deplorable. 7 day work weeks, and the thought of having to never have a holiday like Easter, July 4th, or Thanksgiving off, when considerable merchants close their stores to give their employees time with their families. In the course of these 3 weeks, I had missed church, a family funeral, and any quality time I could get with my family.
Today I went in, only to find another 5 page list from yet another training district manager...more to add, but I tried to stay with it. Thats when I realized...its never going to stop. Ive read the posts here on Complaint boards, and I see that its not just here, its an epedemic throughout their organization. How sad that a company founded on such loyal values has turned coat and decided to become the WalMart of the Dollar stores. I turned in my keys and left today. Not one phone call from anyone to discover why. I guess they already know why.
You know, in reading these posts, I see so many people complaining about the rude manager, the rude cashier, etc...folks, if you would just put in your application and work just one day in a DG store, perhaps you would understand their lethargy. In a dead end job for a dead end salary, still on food stamps, and working like hell to survive, all so you the consumer can save a buck on laundry detergent. Its not their fault, and in most cases, not their store managers fault. More than likely its a district or regional managers fault, or the higher ups that make the insane task lists that can never be accomplished. And folks-check the dates on those packages of food youre buying there. Food poisoning can be had at a bargain price. I just feel relieved that I got out when I did, before I was held accountable for their execution of running a business into the ground.
No, actually Ive had 3 job offers today, all from companies that are sound, solvent, and researched. No unemployment was ever taken here, as Ive never been that needy. As for the crying, believe me, I praise God that I got out of there. As for the making the grade-I have turned around 3 businesses into model flagship stores. And I doubt that they will get more money-I negotiated the number on that.
You know, it wasnt that I couldnt make the grade-but why would I? There are too many companies out there that actually give a damn about their employees and their public image. And why would you want to represent a company that didnt? The ones I truly pity are the employees of this organization, that are being denied their rights.
My complaint was not sour grapes, by no means. It was written to warn others that are considering working for DG. And you, my friend are wrong. I had them pegged from day one.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree 100 percent about the condition of some of these stores, BUT it's all about what kind of person you are? Are you a winner? Are you a determined person? Do you have great organizational skills? Do you lead by example? Are you a good planner? I have been a store manager at Dollar General for 5 years and of course I complain about the low payroll budget and all of the other BS I have to put up with. But my work ethic speaks for itself. Out of the 5 years with the company I have managed 3 different stores. All 3 stores were in the same position you spoke of when I first took them over. My DM knows it only takes me one month, two at the most to get a store to customer ready (model store). It's all about rolling up your sleeves for a good 30 days, putting in hard work. Start with your office because you'll need that space to recoup, and to do interviews for all the hiring you're about to do (get yourself a good crew). Next get the breakroom and restrooms in order. Third will be, yourself along with 2 associates to focus on nothing but recovery for the entire day. Then tackle that backroom, working freight everyday, doing the damages, throwing out crap you don't need (lots of crap, you'll just have to take that lost at your first inventory). You will start to see improvment and get complements on how the store is looking so much better. That's your motivated to keep pushing. Work endcaps, Gsections (using mag book), and eliminate unneeded stack outs. Planograms are not important until you get that store in order. Anyway i can go on and on, but i won't. If you've been in retail for 17 years you should know what it takes to turn the store around. Complaining will get you no where. I'm not trying to put you down in anyway. I'm just saying either you got it or you don't.
To whom it may concern,
dgisthebest Then if you are that wanting to change stores that need changing for what you call lack of good management skills, I am sure if you want it bad enough the company will transfer you to one of their most needed stores, just ask them what store closest to you are they having the most problems in shrink and meeting goals and keeping a GM, or are you Chicken? If your really concerned you will.
I have been in retail for several years now, not as management, was offered but didn't want it, Ive seen managers, ### managers and store associates come an go, The last place I worked at closed not due to lack of business but due to them not being able to come to an agreement with the lease of the building and partially due to lack of product that our area was no longer producing so they could no longer get merchandise to take back for purchasing, so that produced an empty truck going back to their warehouse in another state making everything less profitable in this area. Along with a couple other reasons, I thought this place I had worked for before was sort of bad when it came to hours of their part timers, and with the treatment of some of their employees and the way they ran their stores, Now working for DG I find, the other job was really good, I actually had enough time to do my Dept right and help occasionally with other Depts, Yes I actually had my own dept and got paid more to do so, Not so here at DG, Yes I stocked, front faced before I went home( which I tried to do all day long periodically to help at the end of the day), did my own outs, set my own end caps, set plan-o-grams not only that but occasionally helped on register and Loaded out, that means go out in the parking lot an help customers load their merchandise, Night workers occasionally helped stocked if it was a huge truck like for special events, most the time they were there to help customers, Customers were always number 1, you were always to ask if they needed help or assistance, and at the end of the night an hour before it was time to leave everyone one were given sections to front an face before leaving, an managers walked thru to make sure, Why you say because it has been proved fact a well front faced store sells more, its good for the numbers and customers, if you check your selves especially if they are real high or real low most customers will not, I repeat will not get up there or down low to reach into the back, Should I mention we also had a half way decent size warehouse to stock some things we would get early to make sure we had them for sales coming up, And there rolltainers rolled a lot better than the ones DG has, We didnt always get done what needed depending on how busy we were with customers and sometimes had to make up for it the next day. Here at DG it is less customer service and more about stocking and occasionally front facing, Not that the Managers don't want that but because the Corporate office does not give them enough hours to do their stores justice, I was sent to a store once to help, that poor manager, I really felt sorry for him, his store was a wreck, he would hire people and they would just show up when they wanted to, or when he got someone that would work good they would be caught stealing, Seemed he just couldn't win for losing, no fault of his own, We have had 3 people at our store quit within the last month, everyone left having to work the max hours giving allowed to them with the managers working overtime, they get salary so its not time an a half, Our manager actually works her butt off to along with us trying to get things stocked an still do what she needs to get done, She is a good manager, part of the trouble is to, everyone having to apply online and do some of these stupid questions, and some sound really good but for some reason they must have failed the questions as they were not put up so they could hire them, some times we need them right then not so many days after they determined they passed, what ever happened to the interview and can you go to work right now? They do not want to pay anyone no more than they have to so no wonder everyone is looking for another job, DG seems to think it does not cost more to train and train new people, each trained person takes so long of time to get up to their what they would call their standards by that time they are gone to a new job and someone new is coming in to be trained, where as if they would pay the ones a little more that are steady and actually try to work they would get a lot more done and save money, Who wants to continue working for a company that don't give a rats [censored] about the people that work for them or really care about customers. Their just trying to make as much $$$$$ as possible giving out the least amount of $$$$$ as they possibly can with out seeing that possibly giving more $$$$$$ out could possibly mean more $$$$$ in their pockets. It actually makes them lose more as they Im sure have lost employees that could have been a great asset to them in the end. I really feel for my GM even though our store runs relatively smooth compared to most that I know about. So do yourself and DG A favor ask for one of their worst Stores!
i have worked for dollar general for two years and i have just completed my managers training school and anyone who knows the company knows that theres more people to go to than just your DM or RM theres people above them that you can contact. and as far as there not being enough hours givin out then you should raise your sales and you might get more hours and if the manager in your store is doing there job then you also having nothing to worry with. ive been through 2 store managers and i see the difference in the both. so as far as people bashing dollar general thats your experiance i understand that but maybe you should think about the things you done wrong and think of a different way you couldve handled it...i love my job and i love working for dollar general and i would give anything to get into a store that was down in the dumps and bring it back out just to show that i can...you cant make excuses for the things you didnt change because theres a reason you didnt change it and that reason to me is you didnt try hard enough because like i said theres more people to go to than just your DM and RM check your resources before you just give upi and quit because you COULDN'T make the grade!
Absolutely every word (and more) is true. I can say that as a current DG employee. My biggest complaint is understaffing...There are simply not enough hours in a day to get what needs to be done w/ a minimal and increasingly disgruntled staff. Most of us take great pride in our work, but it is just not physically possible in the time-frame forced upon us. This alone results in our voluntarily working thru breaks. Oh we clock out, but are smart enough to "recover" in areas with no cameras! Or we'll punch out at the end of our shift and continue working. Oh the things one does for job security in todays economy!
I believe every word you stated. Over the years I have questioned many owners of companies as well as their hiring managers and basically concluded that employment with their company would be similar to what you have described. You did the right by resigning. No job is worth being worked to death or run in the ground. Some companies don't like good managers who take a stand on important issues as you did. You'd probably do a better job at running the company than they do!
Good luck to you and may God bless you.
so true
So now you're back on unemployment sitting around complaining that you couldn't do the manager's job. I wonder who is crying more, them or you? I'd bet they don't really care, because you couldn't make the grade. They'll find someone who is organized and experienced who can do the job and probably for more money. They had you pegged from the start. No one with a brain actually applies for the DG store manager positions.
Closing too early
I think that it's real crappy for a Dollar General Manager to give dirty looks upon guest entering the store close to closing time. Then to top it off to hear her yelling at people in the parking lot walking up to the store front "We're Closed!" Mind you this is before closeing time and this in the manager. In my opinion this store should be open until 9pm if there are people willing to shop. Not to mention this is a brand new store for them and I'm sure they wouldn't mind the extra money. To get diry looks and eye rolling action when the time on you reciept reads 7:58 is beyound rude behaivor from a store manager.
