I just came from the Dollar General Store in Clinton, Il. zipcode is 61727.
As I am checking out, I have some items which are food ebt and some are cash ebt. I asked the checker to run a specific amount of cash from the ebt card, which was the amount of $ I had on the card. I also wanted to use the food ebt portion of ebt elligible items. First, I was told she cant do that- and charged me all cash for my items.
THEN, when I explained that I wished to use the food portion of ebt- she exclaimed very loudly for the entire store to hear- " You cant put your FOOD STAMPS in the machine to check out like that". And just kept saying it louder and louder. It was so humiliating.
I am disabled due to a brain injury as well as severe PTSD which I incurred as a result of domestic violence. This is why I have the LINK card to begin with.
When I asked her if it was absolutely vital for her to continue to discuss food stamps so loudly, the manager told me that if I didnt like it, I could just not come back to their store.
1. I have been shopping and spending hundreds of dollars worth of items per WEEK from DG for yrs.
2. There is no Walmart or any other such store to buy necessary household items in this entire town.
Finally, as I left the store-the girl tells me "Well, you would think if you have a food stamp card, you should be able to know how to use it.
Laughing- she thought this was so funny. And I have a mental disability and Im too stupid to use my food stamp card in their store.

I believe Justin was the rude manager. The checker was a younger White female with brown hair. This occurred 7/1/23 at 10:45 a.m.
This is severe disability discrimination and my 1st Amendment rights were being violated when the manager informed me that I needed to stop speaking to the checker, who had a smart mouth and was amused by the entire incident.
Desired outcome: refund for purchases, cashier fired, manager reprimanded sincere apology from the manager.If this cashier continues to work at this store, and this issue is not addressed- your company will be hearing a lot more from me.
They check out your ebt first then pay the balance on your debt card . Some stores their Customer Service is unacceptable . Sorry you had to go through this . Please go to another Dollar General . 😊
The father is too cheap to hire a babysitter. So I had to goto his house. His daughter was crying and went up to him. I yelled at her pushed her. I tried to have him charged, he tried to have me charged. I was charged he was not since he was defending his daughter the mom passed away serves them right.
If that father had been attending to his daughter i would not have to hurt her. I face charged he does not even though he left me with a brain injury. They said he was defending his daughter.
Get off your high horse Octatron and read her comment again! The gal is disabled because of a brain injury! I am sure it is not by her choice that she is disabled! Where is your compassion for the human race? You are being very disrespectful of this gal and putting her down for something she cannot help! Yes, there are the few people that lie and cheat to get disability but 99.9% of your disabled people would much rather be working than having to collect food stamps or disability!
Why are you defending me like I am some sort of weak thing. I am not a weak thing. You all need to leave me alone and stop causing me more PTSD.
I don't want to work actually. This is the only good thing about being a victim. I no longer have to work. I can do some jobs but choose not to. Why should I They pay me.
I don't always know how to use food stamps. My life is horrible. the man that did this to me is not being charged. I dated a man and his 20 month old was crying. I started to yell at the daughter. She was interrupting our good time, we was watching a movie and she cried. I yelled at her and hit her. This is when my boyfriend yelled at me saying that I have no right hurting his daughter and he shoved me to the ground. I hit my head hard and suffered a brain injury.
The attacker, my ex boyfriend did not get charged because he was defending his baby, instead I was charged because his baby would not shut up and I hurt her. The cops said he was defending his baby, and him not being charged and me left me with PTSD. This criminal record is making it hard for me to get a job.
You all need to leave me alone. I face PTSD because the man that did this to me is not facing charges. He shouldn have control over his brat.
