a/c. stopped working
Dear GM
I may have not made such a big deal of this problem but I have only owned my truck for three years and this is the third time I've had some sort of problem with it. The first problem was my XM raido stopped working. The second problem was my 8" screen stopped working after warranty. Now the A/C quit working. Upon inspecting it I did find what looks to be Freon leaking from the a/c compressor or the hose attached to it. I love my truck but after yet another problem, I'm very upset and just about to give up on it and get something else. Please tell me there's something you can do about it. "Attached are pictures of the Freon leak. " Thanks!

chevrolet volt
I recently test drove a Chevrolet Volt for the second time, and I have to say I was really impressed by the vehicle! I currently own a Lexus LS400 luxury vehicle, and the Volt had a very smooth ride and acceleration and a very comfortable seat that compared favorably with the Lexus. I live in the Northeast, so I was particularly interested in the heating system. Unfortunately, it seemed that neither salesman really had taken the time to understand the car, and the heating didn't work very well since they had not bothered to charge up the battery! Subsequently, I did some research online, and my question is: are you thinking of adding a heat pump function to future models? Thank you.
2012 chevy volt
I asked these five questions back in Mid-January, and still have not received any answers. Question#1: What is the cost of the replacement lithium-ion battery? Question #2: Has the range increased on the replacement lithium-ion battery? ie: (Battery technology has improved over the past seven years) Question #3: What is the warranty on the replacement lithium-ion battery? Question #4: What are the approximate labor costs involved? Question #5: Approximately how long will this process take? Please answer my questions. Thank you.
vehicle is not working correctly, dealership is not fixing
Brought vehicle end of November beginning of December since I have purchased vehicle has not been driving correctly and I am very upset. 2018 GMC 3500 Serria SLE has cost me so much money and I have not been able to drive because if it needed to be fixed. At 500 kilometers the light came on for the exhaults burner i was told that the light was just going go off but it didn't . The turbo was seized and the cadalica converter as well. They want me to keep bring it in but with the damage it has done I'm sure the engine will go bad. It is now in "power reduced" . I brought it from Ken Sergent GMC Grandeparie Alberta. unavailable parts for a 2017 buick encore
My 2017 Buick Encore was involved in an accident and the front end was damaged. Progressive Insurance had the car towed to Abra Auto Body in Indianapolis. The car has been there for a month and 3 days. There is an issue with several parts, the biggest being the hood! I have been told by Abra, Progressive and the dealership ordering the parts, Hubler Chevrolet, that there are only 7 hoods in this world for this car and they don't know when or even if it will come in for my vehicle.
I had thirty days on a rental, which has expired, and am now without a car. The car simply cannot stay there for months. It is ridiculous to think I should be without a car for months and this is good business. GM needs to do something about this. How can you not have parts for this car?
I bought my Buick, which I totally enjoy by the way, knowing that GM stood behind it. Well, not so much! I have a Senior Advisor working on it but not much has happened. She keeps telling me that we just need to wait for the part! It is not acceptable.
My case # is 8-[protected]. The missing parts are as follows
Emission label-no part #
Front Bumper tow hook-part # [protected]
Front bumper air deflector-part # [protected]
Front bumper low impact bar-#[protected]
hood-part # [protected]
lower cooling radiator baffle-# [protected]
If the parts are unavailable and the car cannot be repaired in a timely fashion then GM needs to provide me with another vehicle. I don't know what else can be done to resolve this matter.
My Encore has been at the dealer over four months now waiting for a transmission that is unavailable with no known delivery date. Anyone buying one of these needs to be aware GM will not provide parts or stand behind their vehicles.
2015 malibu ltz fuel gage not working
We bought our 2015 Chevrolet Malibu Turbo from riley Chevrolet in Missouri in 2016. This car is the LTZ package so it is top of the line and we paid nearly 40k for it. I have owned the car for approximately 2 years and the fuel gauge quit working at 36, 900 miles. Took the car to the dealership and was informed I was over on 3 year/36k mile warranty (obviously). The repairs to fix the fuel sensor were close to $500.00 to repair an electrical failure that occurred by no cause of our own. The dealership called GM to see if they could help offset the cost and were denied. I bought a brand new (reliable) top of the line car due to me traveling quite a bit and this happens within 36k miles. I own a 14 year old Chevrolet truck that has zero issues, so that makes me wonder what other kind of uncovered costly issues may arise with this basically brand new vehicle? I am a loyal GM customer as we own a Silverado, Acadia Denali, and the Malibu LTZ. I figured such a small but crucial problem could have been resolved in a better manner other than "we are out of luck". Please help.
engine problems on used chevy
I picked out a 2014 chevy cruze from dealer George Matick chevy and the day I picked up the vehicle and drove home the check engine light came on.
I reached out to my sales person who instructed me to bring the car back which I did .
The car was in service for a very long time but was finally repaired or at least I thought so well after driving for about 4 months I am having the same issues return .
The service at the this dealer was very good overall by my sales person but the repair side took way to long and to still have the same issue I am very frustrated .
Can you help me with this issue ?
stop/start technology
I have a 2017 Buick Envision and I despise (can't think of a stronger word) the "stop-start" technology in my car. I recently learned that it uses the traditional starter gear engaging in the flywheel and I'm convinced that it will eventually need the starter and soon thereafter the flywheel replaced because of excessive contact and wear. Both will come at a high cost. I would like override software to prevent this nonsense. It is also of no use because of the way I drive. I come to a stop then almost immediately leave my foot off of the brake where upon the engine restarts. So there is no fuel saving for me.
Also, I don't like the location and size of the universal garage door opener which is located in the overhead panel where it almost impossible to see and buttons are so small it's difficult to hit the right one. Move the silly Onstar or the air bag warning from the near vertical and put the door opener buttons (larger ones) in that panel.
cooling in seat - design - engineer poor design
I have a new 2017 Escalade that I took into the dealership where I purchased for my first maintenance. I told my service advisor that when I use my cooling seat function the person sitting behind my seat feels hot air blowing on them. My service advisor told me he hears the same complaint often. He told me it was a design failure with the engineering of the seat cooling device.. He said there nothing they could do to fix it. I can't believe after spending almost 100K for a vehicle that GM could not come up with a fix so hot air is not blowing on your passenger sitting behind you.
2012 empala
I took my car in for oil change and was told that the radiator head transmission oil in it. The service rep. told me that the tubs inside of the radiator hade broken and coolant got into the trans. it cost me 5, 000.00 dollars for repairs. the rep. told me it was a common problem in g. m. radiators, I checked with another dealership and they said the same thing about the radiators. I would like to know if g. m. will reimburse for my repair costs?
unethical practice
My customer # 34799
Date : 01/08/2018
In dec 201 7 took my chevy equinox 2010 LT model to the dealer Bill Holtz in canton since it failed emission check. They said they have to run diagnostics for which I will be billed and later will be adjusted. Not sure what they fixed but at the end I paid more than $600 to have my emission passed. After that I just took my SUV only 3 or 4 times but started noticing grinding sound on the passenger side. This was a new issue that popped up after the dealer said they fixed my emission issue. Took my chevy to the same dealer and explained the issue . Before the fix for emission was done there was no issue. They kept it for a day and gave me a bill for Diagnostic fee and a miscellanous fee which they said it was for the Labor fee tax (I have no clue why we have tax for the labor fee) and asked me to pay $1000 to fix the noise issue since it is related to the axle. Initially my $600 repair charges has added another additional cost of $1000 which was really disappointing. On top of that the key was damaged in the unlock area and I could see the white plastic showing off. Since the key was not handed to me directly but was in the car I didn't notice till I reached home. Called the customer service rep, reporting the issue with my damaged key. I was directed to their manager who was not ready to hear what I was saying. All he said was it was bound to happen and I have to pay to have it replaced. If the dealer damaged my key then why am I getting punished. It looks like they are always after money finding ways to scam customers like me. I really wanted to report this issue so other people know what kind of service they will get if they take their car to Bill Holtz dealer in canton.
FYI . I did take my SUV to another auto shop. They just did wheel balancing after which I am not hearing any sound. A simple fix for which the dealer wants me to pay $1000 ... This is not what I expected
2015 chevy camaro
2/27/2018 - It as 5am and I was driving down a dark highway on my way to work. My need bumped the steering column and the power went out. I was unable to steer the car, no lights (other than the hazard) worked. The car slowed down to a stop (lucky there were no cars behind me). I almost however crashed with another car going the opposite direction (since I had no lights and it was dark).
It scared me, I thought I was going to die. Once the car came to a stop, I was able to put it back into park (as it was in drive since I was driving) and the car started like nothing.
Just for the heck of it, I googled what had happened and found out this was an issue in the 2014 models which had resulted in 18 deaths (in which a recall was issued). Please advise if this is an issue with the 2015 models.

2011 silverado engine knock
I purchased a 2011 Silver with 36, 600 miles, noticed a engine knock while it warmed up to running temp. called GM they said take it to dealer. Took it to Joseph Chevrolet Cincinnati, Ohio. They did a intake cleaning and said it was fixed. 1, 150 miles later it is back the same way. Called Todd again at GM 3 times now with no response. Buyer beware. GM does not back there products. The truck has the 5.3 L AFM motor. well maintained and never been abused or towed anything. Thanks GM for nothing.
No I don't know what the actual problem is, I am going by what I was told by 2 dealer tech's 2 different things. How many tech's do I need to go to find the problem. I did not purchase a warranty because I had a 05 sierra with 90k on it with no problems. I see a lot of complaints on this website about engine problems on these trucks and a lot more websites. If you know a master tech in my area that I can take it to, I will.
The first tech. and Joseph Chevrolet when I had the oil changed told me it was the infamous AFM lifter tick starting, likely the #1 and #7 lifters. cost around $2k to repair, that is why I contacted you in the first place. Great response SELL THE VECHILE. Is that what you tell all your customers if you do not want to help fix the problem.
#4 would be great but if someone comes to look a truck and asks why I am selling so soon or hears the knock will be hard to sell. a well maintained 7 year old like new truck with 38k miles should not be knocking.
I called dealer this morning, they said there was a TSB on that and it would cost another $125 to check it out, asked why it came back and he had no answer. I do not want to spend $125 every 1000 miles to stop the knock. What do you suggest I do.? The truck has had oil changed every 3k miles with dexos 5 w 30 since new.
How is GM responsible for engine knock noise on a vehicle with 38k mikes on it, that you bought used? I own a 1998 GM truck with a turbo diesel in it that has over 200k miles on it and has been flawless all that time. If it knocks tomorrow or fails to start is that somehow to be blamed on GM as well?
Do yourself a favor and look into the situation a bit more online. It's possible you can fix this yourself by addin a pint of automatic transmission oil to the engine oil, making a trip or two around the block and then doing an oil and filter change. Meanwhile quit whining.
I am not ADDIN what ever that means a qt. of trans. fluid from a shade tree mech. to my truck. GM 5.3 afm motors call for dexos oil only. This is a ongoing problem with the AFM motors. do some research. Thanks for your hillbilly advise.
You responded, "No I don't know what the actual problem is, I am going by what I was told by 2 dealer tech's 2 different things. How many tech's do I need to go to find the problem. The first step is correctly diagnosing the problem. IF the lifters are going bad, I believe your cylinder compression will be low, along with the oil pressure. However, not being a mechanic, I'd rely on a service technician to explain that for sure. I'd have as many technicians look at the vehicle until your comfortable with a conscientious as to what the actual problem is. Once you're comfortable with the proper diagnoses, you should have a reasonable remedy for the problem. It's suggested that oil additives may help resolve the "tick" but if that is only masking the real problem, I wouldn't consider that the ultimate solution. I wouldn't begin to presume to send you to specific mechanics. I have certain mechanics I like within my area and trust them with the occasional problems we all face. I'd get to know the mechanics in your area and use the ones you feel most secure with.
Unfortunately many people want to assume there isn't ever going to be a problem with their vehicle and, therefore, don't worry about things like warranties. But that also means that when problems do arise, the cost of repair falls upon the consumer. IF that means $2, 000 to replace the lifters, although undesirable, I'd think it still worthwhile on such a nice truck with relatively low miles.
Thanks.
Hi Trail.
Appreciated reading your concern.
Occasionally, while putting miles on a vehicle, you can run into problems. I can sure appreciate your concern about a sound you're not sure of.
Why not just return to the same dealer and have them check out again? Maybe there's something dirtying up the intake to create the problem.
You responded, "I called dealer this morning, they said there was a TSB on that and it would cost another $125 to check it out, asked why it came back and he had no answer. As it appears, you could (1) go back to this dealer and pay $150 to address the problem again, (2) address the issue with different service center and see if the solution is any different, (3) ignore the problem or, finally (4) sell the vehicle.
As what you do is completely up to you.
Your response, "#4 would be great but if someone comes to look a truck and asks why I am selling so soon or hears the knock will be hard to sell. a well maintained 7 year old like new truck with 38k miles should not be knocking.

I'd like to assist, but it may not be without cost.
It sounds as if you've educated yourself enough to feel like you absolutely know what the problem, as well as the ultimate fix is.
Have you found (a) technician(s) that agree with you?
You stated that you expected it to cost somewhere around $2, 000 to replace these lifters. When purchasing the vehicle, did you purchase any additional warranty coverage should something like this happen?
communication on parts
My 2015 Buick Regal was rear-ended in December of 2017. I took it to the GM body shop on January 29th to replace the bumper. A few days later I was notified that there was a needed part that was in international transit with no estimated time of arrival. I reached out to GM services at 1.866.790.5700 and they opened a file on Feb.2nd (Reference # 8-[protected]) where they expedited to receive information on this part. Now on Feb. 19th there is still no estimated time of arrival. The lack of communication and responsibility from GM has been really disappointing. I left 2 messages last week with no return call. Then, missed a call this morning and called back 10 minutes later, then again 2 hours later and still no return call. I am thankful that the dealership did give me a loaner car a week ago. Going through this process has been highly frustrating because dealing with GM representatives have given no response in understanding that this is an inconvenience and what I thought was a 3 day fix continues to extend in time. I want an answer to why this part cannot be found in the US. It is unfortunate because I have owned many GM vehicles, but because of how I am being treated, I will not purchase another one. All I ask is for communication and empathy in wanting to get this resolved rather than telling me they are doing all they can do and if I need a car, then go rent one.
I googled the part and found it ready to ship from Ohio, so why are we waiting for it internationally. Please call me back and explain to me what is going on. [removed]
2011 chevy equinox
When we first purchased our equinox we discovered it was using a lot of oil. The car then began making very loud noise when we started it and the smell of exhaust was coming into the vehicle. Took the vehicle to a mechanic and they told us the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced, looked like it cracked which they found odd because its not easy to crack. A little over a year later and we have the same problem and on top of that while driving the vehicle the traction control light came on and the car lost engine power. After pulling over and looking the car over I discovered that it was leaking oil. It appears I have blown a rear head gasket or maybe even a cracked block. I have heard from people I know and seen from comments on here these problems seem to be common. Can someone let me know if there is anything being done to help with the repairs seeing as GM knows about all the problems?
2010 cadillac srx vin 3gyfnaey0as645865
I purchased this vehicle from south charlotte cadillac on 3/5/2016 and since then I have had this care in for service for the same issue 3 times. The issues I am having is I am driving this car and it will stop accelerating at any given moment without warning. There are lights that appear, stabiles park assist. The first time this happened, I took it in and was told that I needed to have. I was not sure if this was the issue because the warming lights had all gone off and I could not be sure this was the issue. I did not get it serviced at this time and chose to wait until I had more definitive information to give the service department, it happened again several times before I could get it to the service department as the lights would be off by the time the service department was open. I took it in and was able to capture information from the dashboard. I paid and had this repaired and again it happened with the exact same situation, took it back in and was told they found a different code, yet still everything is still the same. Less than 3 months later, again the same issue has come back and still with the same information displaying on the dashboard. I want and have told everybody of importance at south charlotte cadillac, including the general manager steven, who gave me a discount on the last repair, this was after I made a major complaint that the customer service I was receiving was horrible. I am still faced with the same problem and do not know where to turn, went back to the dealership and spoke with the general manager, the service manager, is sooo rude I do not ever want to speak with him again, the general manager told me they would help me get out of this vehicle, after spending an entire afternoon, they wanted me to assume a new loan for another vehicle, making my payments > $1200/month, this was not what I was expecting. I traded in a 2013 ford edge and now with a car loan much more than what the car is now appraised for and I am stuck with a car that is unsafe and have no means to move forward. I am making general motors aware that I have been sold a car from your brand dealership and now I have an issue with it 's safety and I do not know where to turn. I have reached out to all the local people and still no one can help me, I hope that someone from general motors can listen to my concerns and help in some way of getting me out of a car that is dangerous to drive as I have no idea when it will stop accelerating at any given time. They tell me to bring it in when it does this but I can't predict when this will happen and by the time I try to get it in all the warnings are gone. I feel that I have been given a lemon and now stuck with a car that I can do nothing with but hope and pray that I am not put in a situation where I can get out of traffic and make it off the road to a safe spot.
trailer towing cameras
Bought 2500HD Diesel new in Oct 2016. Had the EchoMaster trailering cameras installed. Very quickly left camera went out. Back in Sept of 2017 both cameras (left and Right) and rear trailer camera went blank. They had to install new system. I drive a lot so I am now over 40, 000 miles in 16 months. A few weeks ago right camera went blank again. Waited until oil change time to have them look at. They are telling me needs new system and now out of warranty so repairs not covered. EchoMaster said would replace system. Fine but the expense to repair from dealer could go as high as $950. Third time this system has failed. If GM is offering this as a supplier item from third party they need to find a more dependable supplier. For the cost of the system, downtime while repairs are made and now the cost to fix does not justify the product GM offers.

chevrolet - malibu -2013, engine 2.4 l chassis (kl1gd5cu1db015266)
Dear Sir / Madam, Good day, I am Projects Manager in Marine Services Co., Ltd, Jeddah Saudi Arabia. We own several GM cars and as Company's policy our cars are serviced only by authorized agents (in this case Universal Moters Agency).
CHEVROLET- MALIBU -2013, Engine 2.4 L Chassis (KL1GD5CU1DB015266), has only around 40, 000 km and completed all scheduled services, is driven personally by me and no one else. During 3rd week of January, after driving about 5 to 7 minutes, I stopped at a traffic light; after the traffic light turned green I just rolled 100 yards when the engine burped and stalled, it was a sound of suffocation for 2 to 3 seconds. As the car was barely at 10- 15 KPH, I pulled on to one side.
Since I am qualified on automobile engines and possess good operatonal knowledge, I immediately opened the engine hood and looked for any abnormal leakage, or crack or smoke; everything was normal, then I looked under the car engine for any visible oil or water leakages, nothing was found, all was in order.
Just due to the fact that I have been a pilot for 20 years, I have an inbuilt habit / reflex to scan my instruments after every 3 to 4 minutes or less, everything was in normal operating limits. The car was then transported on a car carrier to UMA.
UMA Charge me for making a cost estimate for repairs, and gave me an estimate of SAR 34, 310 / around (USD $9150).
According to them, there was water in one cylinder due to which it busted the piston and the connecting rod broke the liner and block. Amazingly they attributed the water to rain. Unfortunately this was not convincing to anyone, including them I believe, the rain happened several week earlier. Moreover, rain water entering engine, is beyond any iota of imagination. Later they tried to say the water may have entered from the air-filter etc etc. Several other possibilities were assumed. This was very unrealistic and disturbing and unprofessional approach.
With my experience of carrying out aircraft accident investigations; to me all evidence points in the direction that the engine suffered a material failure, the block cracked due to any reason (manufacturing defect or whatever I can not say), allowing cooling water into one cylinder from water jacket causing immediate catastrophic damage to the piston, liner and block. All other cylinders are dry and safe.
My concern is that the engine is new, only driven 40, 000, KM, which is just nothing, with all recommended services at recommended schedule time / mileage. General Motors should not penalize a valued customer to pay for repairs of a failure which is due to product failure and not customer's fault. This should not be attributed to the customer.
I seek General Motors attention to resolve this matter at priority and will reach out to any level as we are a valued customer.
Thanking you, Sinderely
Maroof Khan (Projects Manager)

2010 gmc terrain transmission
I am filing a complaint about my transmission that blew out with 110, 000 mi. Which was conveniently 2, 000 mi. Past my powertrain warranty... This car was never beat on, never slipped out of gear just blew out, out of nowhere... To be honest there have been other issues that needed fixed too. The vehicle has been in the shop more than on the road and quite honestly I will never buy a gm product again with all the problems I have experienced... I have been lookong into other people's experiences with the same vehicle and they are having same issues... First, why is there no recall and second, why should I have to pay for this when I already paid top dollar for this junk vehicle
$4100
You responded, "$4100"
Reviewing all the options, I wish I could give you a clear cut solution.
As it sets, the Terrain has very little, if any value. By replacing the transmission, based upon the description you've given the vehicle, you gain more value within the Terrain, than what you put into it. Logically, one would suggest you go through with the replacement of the transmission, even if you were to sell it immediately -- let alone if you were to continue driving it.
I hate to suggest this, but do you have an independent mechanic in your area that you know and can trust? It may be worth getting a second opinion on the vehicle knowing it is outside of warranty coverage.
I cant keep paying money to have it towed to other places...i owe 14k left on the vehicle.. selling is not an option...i will lose out my [censor], pardon my language
I had remote start and 800$ tires put on this vehicle because i planned on keeping it awhile...look i am a songle parent, my fiancé ledt me with double utility bills.. behind payments on the vehicle which i finally caught up on... it's been never ending.. this isn't fair by all means
Obviously your company isnt going to help for your faulty product...i am done talking..customer service and your product is garbage...i will lemon the vehicle since i have all the info i need..if i cant do that i wont make another payment, i ll tell the bank to go pick it up and do what they want with it and i ll buy a $500 beater and it wont be a GM product thats for sure! Worst decision ever to try GM vehicle...i ll make sure to throw some terrible reviews in there as well on your so called "best product"
Hi Adam. I'm sorry you're so frustrated.
Let me clarify, I own no company and make no representations to the same. My only hope was to assist you through this difficulty.
You will do, I'm sure, what you wish. I'd sincerely suggest not making rash decisions, especially based upon short term anger.
If you still owe a bank for the vehicle, I'd highly recommend staying on top of the payments. Banks aren't likely to just walk away from debt. They have a large variety of ways to collect, even if it's years down the road. At the very least, it will destroy your credit. Few of us are able to live our lives on a cash only bases; but that's the path you're going down. Anything you're able to finance will be at ridiculously high percentages. Ultimately it will be cutting off your proverbial nose to spite your face.
Junking the vehicle is understandable, but I could still see you being able to sell it for more than the $4, 100. From an investment standpoint, you could put the money into it and then immediately sell it, pocketing the few thousand in difference.
If you were to check with a good, local mechanic, I could see you getting a new transmission for less than $3000 - even less than that for a rebuilt.
Hi Adam. Appreciate reading your concerns. The Terrain is one of GM's most popular vehicles.
Was your Terrain purchased new? Do you have any additional warranty coverage, whether from GM or a third party, on the vehicle?
The vehicle was purchased with 58, 000mi. Our extended warranty went 50, 000. It ended on 108, 000mi i had 110, 000mi on it when the transmission went...i was under the impression it was still under warranty but apparently wasnt...the vehicle ran fine with no slips no problems and just went out at a routine start from a stop sign with traffic...i havr my child with me at all times, it was never beat on, previous owner was and old fella. The vehicle is in near perfect condition besides the transmission..its been all problems..earlier fix was it was leaking exhaust into the vehicle, we were getting sick..airbag issues..radio went out, my power window seems to be going out..all which have been fixed at dealership where i purchased vehicle from, and service records
It's wonderful to hear you're so fanatical about your vehicles. I'm the same way.
Do you purchase the unit directly from this "old fella?"
No, from dealership, fillback in boscobel Wi.
Depending on the Terrain's configuration, if it's in absolutely perfect condition, the overall value is likely around $7000.
How much have you been quoted to have the transmission replaced?
