jc penney salon manager (sue)
I enthusiastically started my new job as a stylist at JC Penney Salon in Whitehall PA in the Lehigh Valley Mall, although mu hours where not great, i enjoyed working there and had fun. Shortly after i started working there a new manager was hired. She made it clear at staff meetings she would have never hired new graduates from beauty school, there where a few new grads hired at that time. Without giving anyone an opportunity to prove themselves and show there skill, she fired each and every one from the salon, i was the last to be fired. Her excuses where numerous, "i did not charge someone for services properly, I recieved several complaints from other stylist about you. etc... SHE GAVE NO ONE A CHANCE. I WASTED ALL THAT TIME AT THE JC PENNEY SALON. Sue the manager was a mean and heartless person. My last day at the salon she yelled at my in front of customers and belittled in fron of coworkers. Is this the management type that JC Penny Hires. Is this the new direction that JC penny is going under there new CEO. Hire ruthless managers. I would not recommed employment at JC Penney Salon or in the store, no one cared and no one listened.

3 trips to curtain department - salesperson not on staff
I went to the drapery department on 3 separate visits in the last week. Today (11/14/12) I was told that the salesperson starts work at 1:00 p.m. There were no managers or other salesclerks that could be reached for help. Inventory is at bare minimum. I ended up buying from Kohl"s. They made my $120.00 in sales since a clerk was able to get what I needed from the back. With the other people looking at JCP while I was there, I can see JCP going under because they do not have sales people to support the various department needs. They are loosing alot of $$$$$! It is too bad because I will not bother with JCP again. This is the first time I shopped there since years ago when someone took my credit card information and started making purchases from the JCP catalog from another state. JCP was very rude to me while I was trying to deal with the fraud. JCP better start operating smart.

JCP is on its way out mostly because it is a midprice store that traditionally sold mid to high quality goods which are no longer available except for very high prices so this company no longer has a niche in the market. They are trying to sell third world made junk for mid market prices but you can get the same junk for cheaper.. Too bad. It once was a place to purchase qualtiry goods for reasonable prices. Its not their fault...the US and other developed countries no longer manufacture clothing household goods or furniture. Its just too expensive for them to do so.
rude & abusive
We made an appointment with the Chris/manage of centerpoint of woodridge studio for a family portrait, when we showed up half hour prior to our appointment..we been told there will be at least hour delay...but there is no one there at studio for a portrait...Chris who is the manage who told us basically we been double booked and ask us if we want come back another day? we told her that is the only day we are free for a family portrait...she said that's too bad..I don't have time for you right now...but there is no one there...finally ...there are five young men showed up...she took them to the studio right away... when it is our time for the portrait..my two year old son who is hungry and crying...manager yelled at him ask to "SHUT F*****UP"! ...
This is not a friendly environment for any family with children!
We will never go back again at any of their locations!
I believe that is the same manager Kris Rosy at Jcpenny woodridge il
sundaytime10=Chris
Yes I agree with Wendy...that happened to my 5 year old daughter too ! only if this is the chubby woman in the studio you are referring to...she was very, very rude to the children...
business incompetence
JC Penney is not a good company; they're always changing their stores to confuse customers, have different prices on one sales tag, and is constantly trying to find ways to cheat the customers or loyal shoppers; and the way the company mistreats their own employees who do a good job for them is worse! Frequently wrongfully terminating good employees or forcing them to quit, to make room for more inexperienced & unprofessional workers. The Managers at the JC Penney Augusta Mall are incompetent, and have recently been exposing the store to robberies, endangering customers & employees...
(In Georgia) Helzberg Diamonds Jewelry Store : I worked for the company for a while, and what I've experienced there; harassment & discrimination: The District Manager is a ### (fired from J.B. Whites), who allows the store manager- to mistreat some customers and new employees. His staff are a group of unprofessional people who really know nothing about the Jewelry Business, except for lying to customers, screwing up their orders, being rude to customers who complain about the Helzberg unprofessional service. I wouldn't buy any jewelry from those clowns. They also harass & mistreat fellow co-workers, who are better jewelry salesmen than they are; the manager & his flunkies often violate the Helzberg Diamonds business policies when the District Manger isn't around to check up on them. One day, a co-worker yelled at me in front of a customer, just for greeting the customer first! And Raymond did nothing about it, and The Assistant Store Mangers are idiots, they're are not any good at running a Jewelry Store; they fumble at the mouth on the phone, constantly making personal calls, and helping lousy employees conspire against good new-hires or any employee that does a better job than them!

gift card use
This is a SCAM to me! Over a month ago, I ordered a product online with JC Penney. I have never ordered online with them before but I had 4 gift cards that I needed to use and I really wanted this product. Each card I had was for a total of $40.00 ea. The total of the order was for $52.89. There were 2 spaces for gift cards so I used 1 for $40.00 (cost of the product) and I used another for the balance of $12.89 (tax, shipping and handling). A couple of days later, I receive an email confirmation for the order. Everything looked okay so I was content (even if the item was on backorder). Days later, Seeing that I still had 2 gift cards at $40.00 ea and one that was partialy used for the online item, I decided to go to a JC Penny store to use up the remaining cards. When I went to the checkout, everything was fine. They even told me that the remaining balance on the used card was $23.11. Everything was fine until 3 weeks later.
I get another email from JC Penny regarding my online purchase. They said that there is still a balance owed on the order. I asked them to please explain. They told me that all that was paid was $40.00 and the balance of $12.89 was still owed. They were not showing the second card I used. I told them that they need to re-check their books. I also went on to tell them that I have this confirmation for the order and it showed paid in full. They said they would investigate. 2 weeks after this I got another email from them stating that if I want the product that was ordered online, then I would need to pay the balance owed. This would mean that I would be paying the balance twice. I was appalled to think that a "SUPPOSED" reputable company like this would cheat their customers out of their gift cards for their own gain. I am never shopping with JC Penny again.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Sorry, that is supposed to read as charged in quotation marks...
If you used the 2nd gift card in the store before it was "charged" for the .com order, the store purchase would use the entire 40.00 of the gift card. Therefore when .com tried "charging" the gift card (which happens at the time of shipment, not order) there would not have been a balance. You should have held that 2nd gift card until you got the .com order. Unfortunately, no one realizes this. Even some store associates, obviously whoever you talked to at customer service too.

terrible salon leader/store manager
I worked with JCPenney Salon as the Salon receptionist from 2/12 to 8/12.
I was a phenomenal employee; I sold and up-sold products, offered extra services to clients. Handed out samples. Provided a fountain of knowledge on all of the hair salon products JCPenney has to offer. My manager was Susan Everitt; a 65+ old woman, partially senile, forgetful and overall a terrible manager.
On September 1st, JCPenney started giving out free kids haircuts. This gave the stylists too many people to handle at once. Not a single stylist had time for their regular PAYING clients. This, of course, is JCPenney's fault, not Susan's. However, when the free haircuts started, all of that senile woman's managing skills went in the garbage just like her diapers. She was frazzled, stressed, and had no idea how to handle the situation. Instead of being a manager, she came behind the front desk constantly trying to do my job for me. I had a very precise system worked out (since JCPenney only provided the chaos with little support) in which she kept interfering with.
Then one day the computers were slow due to the overload of information being entered into them. I was unable to scan and "check out" every client as they left. Doing so would've set me incredibly far behind and left me with dozens of unsatisfied customers. So I set them aside in very distinct places. She had full knowledge of the problems with the computers and the day hardly started running smoothly (due to her interference with the other receptionist while working) until I arrived. At one point I kindly asked her to not be behind the desk as it was very crowded. When I was on my way to tell a stylist their client had arrived, Susan pulled me into the dispensary (aka; "the back") and immediately started scolding me. She spoke down to me like she was my mother, not my manager. Saying "how dare you talk like that to me, you need to drop the attitude and work." To which I responded defending myself, stating that she was the one hindering my work by constantly being behind the desk and pulling me aside. She then scolded me for not "checking out" every single client. (up to 200 daily, mind you, ) To which I responded "as of right now, every client and every stylist is happy, and you have the audacity to critique my work ethic? How about this, you run the desk by yourself and see if you can keep the clients as happy as I could." And walked out of the salon.
Long before this incident I wanted to speak with the store manager, Nannette Halvorsen-Street about Susan's deteriorating ability to work, remember, and treat people. Nannette is very gossipy, I assumed. I spoke with another manager whom I knew I could trust and told her my dilemma. She admitted that Nannette and Susan gossip about everything and that word would immediately get back around to Susan. She emphasized not trusting Nannette; the corrupted store manager.
I also learned that during my employment, JCPenney opened 6 new stores, all without salons. They're currently doing reconstruction and have "said" that they are not getting rid of the Salon. My suspicion is that they are going to start construction and not let the stylists come back.

I worked at a JCPenney store in Greenville, OH.The salon leader did not treat us right, I was the one not making her money on hair so she treated me the worst.! the ones making good money deal with her but only because of the money.they have gotten complaints about her for years, but she still has her job. I've had customers complain about her and even schedule appts when she is not working!
misleading information/unhelpful staff
Took my mother to JCPenney optical to take advantage of the $97 offer for glasses. After we were given a quote of $172 for one pair I inquired as to what the offer was for the next month in 2 days. I was told the offer was 2 pair for $99. I suggested to my mother that we wait for the next offer and Jenny, the sales person, told us the single pair was a better deal because we would have to pay the extra for 2 pair. I am not stupid I knew that the bells and whistles you pay for one pair you must pay for 2 pair. As my mother was selecting the glasses and Jenny was measuring and adding cost to the $97 dollar price my mother was not really 'getting' the price breakdown. After I got home and looked up the offer that was coming in two days I realized that my mother had been rammed through the process without time to catch her breath and reflect on the offers. When the data was compared the better offer--even with the special add on components--was the 2 for $99. I called Jenny to voice my displeasure and ask could we get the 2 for $99 offer since she downplayed the offer and suggested it was better to get the glasses then. Although I understand the concept of 'not applicable to prior purchases' I believe we were misled as we would have waited a day for the better offer. Jenny was completely clueless as to what I requested and told me to call a number for complaints. I did. The person at the complaint was very professional and understood what I was asking. This person ask would I be satisfied with the 2 for $99 offer and I told her yes. I called Jenny back and was told the only way to get the offer was to get a refund on the original offer, send those glasses back and reorder the glasses. The difference between one pair and two pair would be @$50. When I ask why we could not add a duplicate to the original glasses and pay the difference I was told the original glasses were bought under a different offer and had to be sent back. I am not a super genius--I do have several degrees in Criminal Justice and in Public Administration--but this does not make any type of reason in the real world. If you already have a pair made then make another pair just like them and the customer pays the balance. On what planet does it make sense to send back a completed pair because it was made 1 day earlier. Maybe my rationale and analytical thinking is above the realm of the sales person at JCPenney optical.
BTW I have purchased my glasses and prescription sunglasses from JCPenney optical often over the years-->15. I believe since there are so many optical places offering 2 for $99 without restrictions and all inclusive I will return to Sears optical.

Do not buy glasses from Danette at Jcpenney Optical in Boardman, OH she is very rude and lazy..When I ask her to show me Rayban frames that they carry she told me they big black man frames and REFUSE. I will start going back to Lenscrafters they prices may be high but the customer service is better than Jcpenney...no wonder the whole store going down.
I was not paid
I was hired a month ago by JC Penny in Plano, TX to work from home. I was told that my pay would be direct deposited and I was never paid. I can not get a straight answer from JC Penny.
They owe me an explanation and more importantly I want my money for the work I have done. At this time the owe me $148.00
I am attaching the employment agreement with JC Penny to prove that I was hired by them.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Here the person who hired me and he does work for JC Penny. I have verified that fact.

they lost my glasses
I took my 3 month old glasses in because the lenses were scratched really bad, the sales person said she would send them to the lab, after 2 weeks I called and was told they knew nothing about them. It's been 3 weeks and they still have not found them. they told me on July18thj, they were still looking for them!.. How long do I have to wait before they do something about this, I am now wearing glasses that are 3 years old.
Read full review of JC Penneyolder/long-time employees being accosted by very young, new floor managers
My review is specifically based on a recent event at the JC Penney store at Stratford Mall that just left a very bad taste in my mouth and I felt needed to be "reviewed" properly.
I have been a long-time patron to this store as well as Stratford Mall in general, going back to the days when me and my buddies would just hang out at the mall and walk around stores "just to walk around" back when we were teenagers and in our early 20's..
A few weeks back, I was just casually shopping in JC Penney's 2nd floor in the drapery section when I saw and overheard a "floor manager" who I would later hear his name to be "Will" - who appeared to be no older than about mid 20's - just be completely RUDE AND CONDESCENDING to his own staff! I must mention this, as I almost told off "Will" myself!
I saw Will getting angry with an older woman - who looked very nice and caring - working one of the registers - she appeared to be in her 60s. He told her something to the effect of - in a very loud and RUDE tone, "when you don't see any customers, go fold towels or something!". I was floored. Again, this cashier lady looked nice and completely harmless.. couldn't he have told her nicely, softly, privately?
Here's where it gets more interesting!
After I hear this, naturally I get "curious" so I kinda follow Will around a bit -- then I see him walk into the HAIR SALON AREA (same floor, a few aisles down) and he then yelled at some of the girls in there not to "stand around" and then he yelled at some of them saying "if you guys are standing around, go fold some jeans or towels!". I wanted to tell "Will" off, as he just came off as so arrogant and like a punk, but didn't. Hey Will, why don't you fold a few towels while you yourself are taking your warden's stroll?
THEN I HEAR the older woman telling a customer who had gotten in line (Will had by now walked away, and I was now in line) that "my gosh I have worked here 17 years and some of the girls in the salon have worked there 13 years, and "Will the manager" is new!" I had had enough by this point. Again, it appeared Will was about 24 and probably right out of college.
This is what Penney's has resorted to - hiring arrogant punks walking the floors picking on VETERAN employees (17 years, 13 years) and making them feel lower than a curb. No gumption. Has Will ever heard of being one of the employees himself? Being one of and with the same team? Apparently not. I can understand being a floor manager and making sure things get done, but there is also a thing called respecting and appreciating your fellow employees, especially ones that have been with a company a long time especially in today's times when employee turn-over rates (especially at mall department stores) are very high.
Now of course, I can understand the argument that perhaps Will is being given his job duties from somebody 'higher up in' command, and is just following orders. But still - have a bit of respect and decency -- and if this is a trickle-down effect of what is happening with Penney's management above Will per say - than that fact should be noted and addressed as well... THIS WAS ALL UNCALLED FOR all the way around and any way you look at it.
All this aside, JC Penney's is in trouble as it is.. with their lack of coupons and their sales are way down. Having employees and over-zealous managers like "Will" (yes - he is still an "employee") CERTAINLY DOES NOT HELP THEIR CAUSE with ANYBODY. Dear Lord...
(** It's also kinda unlikely some employees who have been with a company ALMOST 20 YEARS would have a chronic history of poor performance or constantly being told something in a harsh tone by management or 'written up' about the same old things. How else would they last at a company that long? Just saying...)
Again, if this action was necessary, it could have been done with decency, NOT IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS, and in private.

We were in the process of trying to buy a house and found out that there was a report from JC Penneys. This report is not ours it is our sons account. He has the same name but a Jr. This is very upsetting for us as it is stopping our ability to buy the house we want. Beware!
I disagree, at least partly, I work in retail with many people who have been working with the company for 15+ years and I can tell you that many of them have a hard time adjusting to the new realities of retail. The standard response to the new way is usually something along the lines of "I've never had to do that before." Trust me also when I tell you that many long-time retail employees are, or have been, "favorites" of previous management teams, many of whom they may have been working with for many years. While I agree that such coaching should optimally be done in private, in the case you observed, perhaps the manager did not realize there was a customer in the area
You stated that employee turnover is at a high rate, that is something those long-time employees should consider. If a part of their responsibilities is "folding towels" or straightening merchandise, it needs to be done. You have no idea how many times these workers have been spoken to on this subject, and they should keep in mind that there are other people who would be willing to take their places if they don't want to perform their duties. It is sad, but it is the new reality of retail.
I agree w/the responses. It's Will's job to make sure the work gets done in the stores. He may have appeared 'rude' to you, but they're paid to work- not stand around. Who knows, Will may have saved their jobs. I'd rather have a job then get fired for poor performance.
Time theft is fun. Jim Halpert agrees.
I don't plan on ever going back to that store
My mother & I are a loyal customer of JCPenny, we’ve never felt the need to complaint about any store but this time it was way out of hand! My mother & I went shopping at JCPenny lakeforest at the shoe department, my mother wanted these beautiful black lady shoes and is her first time wanting one. I was very excited for her and wanted her to get it but It wasn’t her size so I ask the lady who works there to help us out. I told her ” Do you have any other size for this shoe & She said she might have a 5″ so I told her to get it for us. She said yes but 1. She didn’t take the shoe with her to get another one like that 2.
She stop by & help the other women instead of us who came first! Is it because we are Asia & the other women is white? We also have the money to pay & is not like we’re getting it for free! We waited for her for 40min! We kept on asking her but she kept on saying sure but never get it for us & just keep on helping other ladies! My mother who said is okay let’s get it another time. The mother who was excited to get her first lady shoe, the lady shoe that she loves & adore so much was never giving to her because of the women who looks down on Asian! I don’t plan on ever going back to that store unless they have a better customer service! I’ll be telling all my other friends as well!
From, The daughter who felt sorry for her mother & feel hurt for being look down because she is Asian!
So you and your Mom waited 40 entire minutes while watching the sales lady serve all the other customers who came after you.
Sounds like the shoe department was busy, only person was working, and the clerk was trying to serve multiple people at the same time (so she could get all the sizes people needed from the stockroom at once). Even your own mother suggested going back later.
Return Policy
We ordered two pairs of glasses for my boyfriend a month ago at JC Penny's at Meyerland Plaza in Houston. After waiting over two weeks to get them, one pair was defective. The woman there kept saying maybe it was smuged or maybe my boyfriend was looking to far on the periphery (they were progessive lenses). He finally convinced her it was the one pair of glasses not him. She said she would have to send them back to quality and it would be another 3 weeks before he got them again. He desperately needs these glasses and since the woman wasn't that helpful we asked to get our money back for that one pair. It was then she informed us that JCPenny's does not give money back. They will redo your glasses as many times as necessary to get it right. ?
We will never buy glasses from JC Penny's again!

I will never order or purchase anything from jc penney again
I ordered a Rocker Recliner from JC Penney online. Basically spend 2 to 3 hours including being transfered twice, and put on hold, before I could get an estimated shipping date finally from Mindy. Besides the time it took for me to get the estimated shipping date, I was continually told by Casey as if I were stupid, and didn’t understand what she was repeatedly explaining to me, she still couldn’t tell me when the Rocker- recliner estimated to reach my house, and she refused to transfer to a manger. She kept repetitively telling me that the factory had 7 to 14 days to contact me.
I tried to tell her that I will not be here during the contact time frame(7 to 14 days)m because I will in Mexico, and I will not be able to retrieve messages. After demanding about 20 times that I be transfered to a manager, finally, Casey transfered me to Mindy, who again repeated the same information several times, and treated with the same disrepect. Finally, Mindy took the time to get me an estimated shipping date, which is all I wanted.
A customer should be able to be told a estimated shipping date within 3 days of recieving delivery of an item, and should be able to track it from Factory to destination and notify the customer as such, and JC Penney employees should treat persons no matter how stupid they are with respect. I will never order or purchase anything from JC Penney again, and neither will about 20 other persons in my place of work who over heard this bad experience.
I was a long time customer of JCPenney, but as of today, I will never shop at JCPenney again. Their service is the worst and nearly every item that was order had to backordered. They would give a date the backorder would be sent and keep pushing it back until finally they email you to say sorry item no longer available. The reutrn policy is the worst, it took 6 weeks for me to get a refund on items that I sent back. Only to be told that they never received the mechandise back or that I had already been refunded...had to spend several days not hours days on the phone repeating the same thing just to ensure that I got my refund. I would talk to three different representative in the same day only to be told three different stories as to why I had not recieved my refund. Not worth the headache.

online order problems with website
On Tuesday Sept 27th I placed an jcpenny order (#[protected]) and the call service I received was very willing to go well beyond their fundamental call service. Unfortunately I did not get their names but it was approximately 8:30pm Eastern time zone. The first jcpenny person I spoke to stated she would have to have manager call me back…bottom line they were open to helping the customer.
Basic issue was that I wanted a 5piece outdoor furniture set that was at a discounted jcpenny price online it stated it was unavailable but all the individual pieces were available but cost more than the complete set price but after working approximately 1 hour cause that was when I got the return call from the manager they were able to get the set at the cheaper price. They tried-that is the bottom line. After researching I found that local stores had the chairs at even a cheaper price I decided to cancel the order for the tacle set pieces.
But I had also ordered a cover for this set which jcpenny online stated was no longer available but keep in mind it was available the night prior when the order was placed. Nancy and Barb (Barbara) out of Pittsburgh, PA. Stated their was nothing they could do for me to get this cover other they watching the website to see if I could catch when it is put back as available-who has that kind of time.
Bottom line is that they were not open to even trying and now I can not get that cover so I know it may not be much but this is a lost sale and keep in mind that if the topic of jcpenny comes up in conversation with friends and co-workers this lack of a sense to try and help the customer can be discussed. I just hate that I am out of a product that I had less than 24hours ago that I really wanted. Thank you for your time and have a nice day.
Warning to other on line shoppers of J C Penney. Purchased a ring on line at JCPenney . com. Had it shipped to store to try on for size . I decided it wasn't what i wanted because it wasn't true to size as represented on line. I tried to exchange at store but was told I have to mail it back to address in New York. So unhappy customer and they lost a sale because I will go elsewhere to replace it, This warning is for other J C Penney shoppers . NOT WORTH THE HASSEL DEALING WITH THEM! They don't stand behind their merchandise at this store!
😡Warning to our family and friends! We have been royally hosed by JC Penny furniture and disrespected and lied to by their corporate office. Fair warning...NEVER ORDER YOUR BEDROOM OUTFIT FROM THEM. It was 5 weeks late. They claim that it is made in Texas once the order is placed yet there were stickers all over the wood indicating that it was made in VIETNAM. Even the boxes that they came in said made in America which is a lie. We paid to have a very expensive outfit shipped and put together and their 3rd party delivery lost our whole bedroom outfit and when they did finally deliver it they lied to us and said that they were not responsible for putting it together and just left it in huge boxes for my husband to put together only to find out later that the bed would not go together because the people in Vietnam could not measure and drill holes. Most people save and dream and work hard for a new bedroom outfit for years and JC Penny spit in our face by offering us $400 for weeks of inconvience, schedule changes, sleeping on the mattress on the floor, living out of laundry baskets, and when we called for updates and explanations they had the unmitigated gull of hanging up on us, handing us off from one manager to another, lying, making us put our furniture together and not returning follow up calls as promised. And beware... If you think that you will get in touch with someone at corporate in a timely fashion then be ready to spend several hours on the phone. They are getting it all back! We are done and done with JC Penny! Je

screaming television commercial
Who ever approved this commercial should have done some research.. What consumer wants to listen to a bunch of screaming women? Not I. I have to press the mute button on my remote control due to how LOUD this commercial is. Plus, it is running on several TV stations. Boy, JCP must have money to burn in the advertising department. I not only find this commercial loud, it also, in my opinion, protrays women in a poor light. Shame on JCP! I will not shop your new program of sale advertising due to this commercial.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
it got people talking about it them, so it worked.
I agree the JCP missed the mark on this one...and I don't think the complaint it stupid at all. when your football game or prime time comedy, or disney movie is disrupted with SCREAMING, no different then a horror movie, 25% louder then your show of choice, is frustratingly annoying ..what the hell!
