Macy's Credit card fraud

It happened to me, the Macy's credit card fraud. I am writing this to alert anyone reading of this Macy's fraud department.

It works like this, when you buy any products from Macy's they ask you if you want to signup for their card service, if you say yes, they try to put your new purchase on the new card so that it gets activated immediately and you become liable to use it. I had given them my existing credit card, I dont know why they put the charges on the new card.

I called their customer service to remove the charge from their card and put it on my card. They went ahead and closed it and put a balance on my credit report. All without informing me or contacting me.

I paid their card balance in full this is after they charged me a hefty penalty fees they wont send me a itemized bill. The penalty amounted to 271$, for a charge of 46$. The Macy's customer rep said that I should not have paid without getting a itemized bill, completely side stepping the issue.

I think I am legally entitled to an itemized bill. Please can anyone reading this advise me.

Macy's really hurt my credit score.

And now after having paid them for an year, they wont update my credit report. I call them get transfered from department to department.

I am also writing to find out if there any thing legally. In retrospect , any card which is offered in a Shopping mall is risky, this is to all teenagers and youngsters.

Hope that helps
Concerned Consumer.

Went into Macy's today with what I *thought* was a $200 credit limit on my account. I had just paid the minimum amount due on the bill (on time), and knew my balance was only $70 or so, leaving me with aprox. $130 left to use on my card. I went to pay and was told that my card was declined! The associate called the call center (in India, of course!) and they told me I only had $32 available on my card, because my credit limit had been lowered to $100 because of something about 'outside credit issues'. I didn't bother to ask what that ment. The associate was sympathetic and told me that she has seen that happen to many customers lately. She applied another discount to my bill and lowered the total of my purchases to $48 but I wasn't in the mood to shop there anymore, so I thanked her and left.
My BIG complaints about Macy's credit cards:
1. It is next to impossible to find out your credit limit because they do not show it online, this is the only credit card I've ever had that this is true for.
2. They sent NO NOTIFICATION that they lowered my credit limit.

I will be paying off my balance ASAP and closing my account.

I would like to know why I am getting incesnant calls hourly from MCCS. This is not only bothersome, it's annoying and I am ready to file a class action lawsuit.

Macy's team closed my credit account without my notice. I had to go thru lot of trouble when my card dint work suddenly.
Called the customer support, they surprised me that it was the system error and the account was closed as "declined to accept new terms"
Because of the kind of closure status, they cannot reopen the account. The customer support offered me $50 credit for the issue.
Talking to his manager they offered $100 credit. which i declined.

It is very silly and stupid that they do this to good customers and they harm they did to my credit is worth $100 according to them.
What to know if this happened to any one and whats the alternative ?

I went to Macy's in July 2009, and bought some suits and neck ties. I was trying to pay cash. However, they

told me that if I make macy's card, then there is some discounts for me. I thought that's just a 'membership

card' because they never told me that it is a 'credit card'.

So, I made it and I paid full cash amount for my discounted total balance. After a month, I had a letter from

macy's that I have balance of $197.34 including $40 of late fee and financial fee. They used that Macy's credit

card without telling me any notice. I realized that I double paid for it. I went back to Macy's and

complained about it, but they never listened. I am just telling everyone need to be aware of

these kind of sneaky trap that Macy's trying to do.

I just received aMacy's bill statement showing the correct zero balance. More importantly, it showed an increased interest rate. The rate was increased to almost 23 pct. Needless to say I was pissed, even though I always pay in full.

In reading the fine print, on the statement, I ran across a section discussing the minimum interest amount of $2. Let's say I had had a balance owing going into the month of $1. Barring further purchases, the amount owing at the end of that month would be $3. Now is that userous or what?

I quickly filed the billing statement. I would have been so embarrassed to have a friend or relative see the almost 23 pct rate.

My AMEX card bears an interest rate less than 13 pct, my Discover card about the same, my HSBC Master card less than 9 pct. I should add that all 3 of these cards have cash back rewards.

I just dont see why folks even bother of carrying a Macy's card...realizing the way they are treated should they choose to carry a balance.

I cancelled the Macys card this am. Of course, I was asked why. When I told the foreign customer service rep about the intest rate hike, he had the audacity to say 'gee, that's only 1.8 pct per month. What a creep.

Hard to believe Macys would treat folks that way.

I agree...I am paying my Mother's bills. Her MACY'S CARD is charging her a late fee late by one day. I pay off all cards at the end of the month. Macy's has called me seven times each day. I sent card cut in a million pieces and check for pay off. India people hard to work with. The sad thing there is no credit or service department in Macy's. I hope Macy's does go bankrupt. My Mother a customer for
fourty years deserves better. GF

I, too, am a victim of Macy's sending bills to my old address, receiving them back, and instead of running my credit report (which has my correct new address), they send it to collections, who never attempts to find my new address (a simple Google search shows 4 different ways to get in touch with me by the 2nd item that pops up), then proceeds to write it off as a "charge off". Original debt was $11, they charge off $32. Meanwhile, my Discover card drops my limit $6000, I run my credit report, and see the adverse account. I call the number of the collection agency, they acknowledge that Macy's received the bills back, so they will settle the matter for the original $11, which I had to pay by debit card over the phone. They inform me that Macy's will clear up the item on my credit report within 30 days, and send me a short letter stating the same. But lo and behold, here it is 40 days later, and Macy's not only has not cleared it up, they told the credit bureaus that it was a charge off. So they got paid AND wrote it off of their books. Funny, I have 30 open accounts, all in good standing, with never a late, but I made a conscious effort to screw Macy's out of $11! I will NEVER, EVER shop in their stores again! I had the account for more than a dozen years, and was never late! Dirty, rotten ### is about all I can think of to describe them!

I have had my for almost 5 years. I went to pay my bill and saw that my card had been maxed out. I was furious because I had been returning everything I could to get my revolving balance down. I have contacted the Macy's stores, fraud department, and Macys CEO. None of them care and told me that since I still had my card that there was no way to prove any fraud. How was i suposse to know i only pay my bill once a month. I wouldn't give up in contacting their fraud department so finally they got sick of me and told me not to contact them unless i get new information. Well how can i get new information when they haven't provided me any information. they said they don't have to check ID, they dont have video to check, and they sent me blank signature cards. Well thats not going to be the end because I am not lying and I can not afford to pay the 1600 that was not my doing. It did not follow my shopping patterns, but again MACYS DOESNT CARE. they said i am out of luck!

Does anyone know an affordable lawyer?
I do not think it is fair for macys to walk all over there customers and former employees?

okay first of all i completely disagree this macys credit protection is optional, they ask you at the service desk if you want the program, & even if they don't you should read ### before you sign it! duh! & this program has helped me actually paid off, my credit card.. and i had a balance of like 7thousand.. i totally disagree with these opinions.

My most recent exsperiance at macys was just as the other posted have stated. I went to purchase an item in the cosmetic department. I was told by the cashier that I would save an extra 20% off if I were to have my fiance join my account. I questioned this as to why I had never heard of this promotion before, but I made it clear as long as I do not have to open a new account that would be fine. She told me that it was not another account, she would just add my fiance to my existing account. At the end of the transaction she told me we would be receiving our new joint cards in the mail. I again questioned the cashier since it seemed like she just opened me a new account, and she assured me that she did not.

About 10 minutes later I had this gut feeling she was lying to me since what she was teeling me didnt seem to add up. I spoke to a customer service representative (CSR) on the phone and he confirmed that she had indeed set me up with a new account. I couldn't close the newly opened account without paying the full balance so I asked him to transfer the balance to my existing account. He claimed he could not do such an action and that I would have to send a check before he could close the account. So I came up with my own solution by returning the items that were purchased on the new account and repurchasing them on the existing. The CSR then closed the account which I will most likely take a hit on my credit score for which I will now have to resolve.

Long Story short i was purposed a promotion that did not exist so an employee could boost her loyalty count which i'm sure they get bonused on.

I have been a customer with Macy's for a long time. They got me a few times with their "dual accounts', which earned me a black spot on my credit. But I didn't fight it, because I have a problem with organization and it's been getting worse. Recently they decided to lower my credit limit without telling me, of course. On Black Friday, of all days! I know the economy is bad and the banks are all rushing to get us all suckered into their higher interest rates, but this is ridiculous. They get a bailout and they turn around and put the screws to us, the ones who are paying for their mistakes. I'm just about through with credit cards, I think. My husband has been laid off for over a year and I had to rely on my cards to make ends meet. Thankfully, I still have my job, my home, and my family, along with a growing pile of bills. But I know that I am not alone. I don't know why I've been letting them bone me with their ridiculous APR anyway. Live and learn, I guess.

They got me too! I had an $800 limit in june of 09. I pay my bills on time and for some reason they cut my limit down to $200 in august without letting me know. I was late in october for the first time but because I misunderstood the online statement. Before I was never late on any of my other accounts but anyway I paid it one day late and paid it off. However, a couple of days ago when I was trying to do some Christmas shopping my card was declined. I was furious because I knew I had paid the card off and my account was in good standing. This is when I was told that my limit had been decreased from $800 to $200 to now $100without notice! I spoke with customer service and the rep told me that they have had many complaints about this but there was nothing she could do unless I wanted to apply for an increase. Definitely not! I will NEVER shop with Macy's as long as they operate this way.

I used to work for Macy's. Everything there revolves around opening accounts. That is how they make alot of money. If you work for macys, whether you are a cashier, a manager or a store manager - your promotion and your pay depends on how many new accounts you are able to open, and that's where it gets ugly - people, who want to succeed in the company go to great lengths to make people open new accounts and it comes from the very top: managers pressure their employees - employees pressure the customers. Your promotion with Macy's mostly depends on your ability to open new accounts and pressuring the employees of your department. Throughout my history as a Macy's employee I've observed some pretty lazy and worthless workers being promoted and praised by the store and regional managers based on their "skills" of annoying the heck out of Macy's shoppers - this always seemed so comical to me... And there are also countless hard-working employees who choose to take care of customers rather than "bombard" and "beg" them to open an account (which is soooo annoying to any shopper, I mean, most people want to feel relaxed when shopping). Macy's is definitely shooting themselves in a leg with that one...There are not many cashiers that do that, but there are definitely some "driven" employees, who would try to open a Macy's Visa and a regular Macy's card without the customers knowledge of the second card because that way their personal record shows that they have opened 2 accounts instead of one...see, their personal sales record shows the quantity of new accounts, it doesn't matter that it came from one single customer...- the employee is REWARDED for messing with customers credit, and all managers and store managers know the process, however, they don't give a rats patooty because they will be praised from above according to the number of new accounts. But again - there are very few cashiers that do this without asking the customers permission. The fact that Macy's management just decides to look the other way is disturbing...There are some really good people that work at Macy's...And that is unfair to them and to the customers.

I work for macy's in a call center and to be honest you people are cry babies and whiners. You were enticed to save 15% by opening a macy's card by your greed and gullibility. If you pick up the little pamphlet at the register it tells you that you are considered for a visa first if not you will qualify for the store account. On the keyboard it asks to check off credit protection if you don't want the program. Also, on your terms and conditions sheet all customer get macy's tells you on line 17 that they can raise or lower your guideline without written notice, and we do monitor your payment history in the store and also your outside credit portfolio. Now, my experience has been that when we have lowered a guideline it is because someone has either not used their card in over two years, or their credit score is falling as a result of missing payments with other crediters. It is not a god given right to have a credit card. Also, just because we didn't send you a statement does not relieve of a balance due. Sure, a mistake but come on man! Also, the loan starts from the minite you walk out of the store so yes there are initial interest charges, but if you pay the full balance on time you are clear. peace

I have received numerous calls over the past months all calling to dun my wife on large outstanding amounts on either her Macy's or Bloomingdale's cards. Yet, the address of record for the cards MCCS is calling about is in Rhode Island and our telephone number clearly is not. In each case, since my wife has a Bloomingdale's or Macy's account, not the one in question, we have wasted nearly hours with Indian and Filipino call center employees attempting to explain that we are not who they want. Every time they have claimed they will remove our number from their data base but we keep getting calls.

macy's ask all customer if this purchase will be on their macy's card, if the customer says no then the associate will ask if they would like to open and account to save a percentage off at the registar and then on again when the customer receives their first purchase, the swiping of your credit card or debit card is for verification purposes only, not to charge it to the customers BANK card. once you say yes, swipe your credit card and then sign for the information that is being verified you automatically apply for a credit card, a shopping pass is printed and the customer is a new card holder.

Just got an FDCPA violation over the phone. Section 805(b) of the FDCPA states that details of a debt cannot be discussed with ANY third party without prior consent unless they are "[the] consumer, his attorney, a consumer reporting agency if otherwise permitted by law, the creditor, the attorney of the creditor, or the attorney of the debt collector."

William Castillas just called from an Ohio number [protected] and conveyed to me my wife's entire debt on her card that she has been making payments on. Initially he stated it was a business matter, however when he asked who I was, I responded that I was her husband; he stated, "oh really?" and proceeded to state the entire debt. She got the card before we were married; I was never added onto the card as a cosigner or as having authorization (she's a grown woman). After pointing out to him that he violated the FDCPA (I'm in the collections business myself and know it quite well), he stated that it was not a violation, that I had been listed as her husband on her account. I'm well aware that she has not; beyond the point, I'm not an appropriate party to discuss it with since I'm not a cosigner or otherwise on the account.

I'm going to be complaining to Macy's credit collection department as well as the Federal Trade Commission... it's already a hard enough job for the honest type that've actually paid attention to the guidelines, and having someone like this collecting debts is not appropriate.

I miss a payment by one day and I get 4 to 5 phone calls a day from their call center listed on the caller ID in Mason, OH. Then, I got a letter a few weeks ago after paying on time for the past 4 months that they cancelled my card. I had good credit until I was diagnosed in 3/08 with Stage IIIA Breast Cancer which is now Stage IV. I have been late by a few days each month due to Chemo, treatments, etc. There is no mercy. They yell at me every month I am a day late with a payment. And yes, they do not discuss the issues and try to work with me. The people at their organization YELL at me every month I am late.

Let me know if someone decides to do a class action lawsuit. I am in. It is my opinion that this is not collection of a past due balance but harrassment. All of my other credit cards do not do this to me. And, some of those credit card companies have had the right to yell. I would be a few weeks late due to being in the hospital, etc, etc. They do not call and if they do they really try to help. A lot different than Macys.

And what makes me truly laugh about this situation...all the crap from corporate telling us about how they support breast cancer patients. Yep, they do that. They try to put us into an early grave. Thanks Macys and I think that I will pay cash at either Best Buy, Steinmart, etc, etc when I buy something.

I am not a big fan of Macys but when I recently bought a sale item, I opened a Macys card because I got an extra percentage off. I paid the bill promptly and did not have any trouble. I very rarely use the card. For the person who was charged for someone elses purchase : You are not responsible for this purchase. Please contact the attorney general and report this. You should get a refund for this mistake that was Macys fault. Don't let them get you!

I purchased $600 worth of merchandise on their credit card. I was on vacation the following month and missed paying their bill by a week. I sent the entire payment in immediately upon return only to find an additional $57.00 on my next statement for penalties and late fees, although the entire balance had been paid and logged within 60 days. (The payment should have been logged within 45 days. They held my check for an additional time period).

I contacted Macy's after receiving the next month statement and told them I would be happy to pay an additional $25 in fees plus interest for being two weeks late in paying my balance. This was unacceptable to them, even after holding credit with them for over 20 years. I told them not to expect payment and requested that they close any accounts on record immediately.

They continued to send me statements and add at least $50 per month in fees onto the existing late fees until the balance reached approximately $170.00 on the original $600 purchase that was paid within 60 days.

I have recently found that Macy's did indeed give me a black mark on my credit report and claimed that they closed my accounts at THEIR request. Following around four months, I got tired of hearing from them, agreed to pay $89.00 additional dollars to close the complaint. I CONTINUED receiving bills and calls even after settling the debt. I finally wrote an additional letter six months later and told them I would not pay any further charges under any circumstances.

After requesting that Experian investigate, they did change my credit report to reflect that the debt was settled legally, but that they were required to send it to collections.

People...the entire back due bill was penalties! Not a single penny was for the original merchandise. These folks are crooks.

Report them to your attorney general. That's next on my list, after the FTC.

I love reading these. Thank you all so much for your warnings. Now I know that when I purchase something with a Macy's card, they actually expect me to pay them back within the time frame the tell me to. (those scoundrels)
And that if I open a card just to save 10% on my $50 purchase that I should have to be responsible for telling the cashier how I want to pay for my purchase (even though the application clearly states the 10% savings only applies if I use my new card. I'm special enough that I should be the exception)
And not only that, but if I cancel my Macy's card early, they're going to charge me the early termination fees, just like they said they would on the contract that I signed when I applied for the card? ([censor])

Seriously, can you people stop being idiots and read something before signing it? The world will thank you.

I used to work at Rob May and Macys right after high school so i had their credit card accounts. i purchased two sets of furniture in 08' on each of the cards, therefore, i only had two accounts. i became late on a payment during the credit 'crisis' that his america in 09' and both accounts got closed, showing as four account sent to collection on my credit report! their billing system was ancient when you would pay in store and worked conditionally if the associate you made the payment through paid enough attention to use the register properly to pay the accounts. four credit accounts severely hurt my credit score, so before the obama credit regulations took effect, many of my other accounts closed as well because i was considered a risk.

shoot foward to today, it turns out i was right . . . i was only supposed to have two accounts show (at most) not four. thank you macys for ruining my credit.

fyi, do not open the account. it is not worth the ding on your report for a check. their coupons suck because they're soo restrictive. if you want to save shop at marshals or ross where there overstock ends up anyways.

Very month I late fee is added to my Macys AmEx card – WHY? Because I do not receive my statement therefore it is late and I have a late fee to pay and my credit history goes down the drain. My fico score is 780 so it is not like I pay my bills late to all my vendors and I am in the Finance/Accounting field. I am pissed and wish that either AmEx will do something about this or Macys will find another company to do the credit card solutions.
By the way, I spoke to Kurt in India, and it took him 12 minutes to verify my information (I read my cc number to him four times), Jeff – his supervisor was no help either and I waited for Douglas for 10 minutes because he was on another call with other upset customers. Overall, time wasted on this call 35 minutes, lost customer to Macys one! Happy husband One! Bank savings for a year in THOUSANDS!

Seriously? You're late every month because they don't mail you a statement on time? Wouldn't you have learned after the first month that the due date is the same day every single month? Whether they send it or not, you're obviously "tech savvy" to come on here and complain that you always pay your bill late because you don't own a calender, why don't you use that time to log onto their credit service website and view your statement?

This is so obvious but what can we do about it! Do you all still shop at Macy's? Did anyone try to get some credit out of them for the "confusion"? Did anyone think to ask to speak to the supervisor? These are a few things you should all consider and anyone in the future please remember.

Now what can we do to get Macy's in trouble and stop taking advantage of us honest customers. If they didn't have us; they wouldn't be in business would they?

I agree!
I signed up for e-bills and they did not notify me that mya ccount was due or pass due, so they posted the amount to my credit reports. I talked to someone called Crystal, who told me that her supervisor agreed to remove the 30 days late notice if I would spend $400 on the card and pay it off before the due date.
I did that and called back the credit dept and they told me, that they changed their mind and would not honor what they said.
I am going to complain to BBB, consumer agencies and gri.pe to let everyone know about Macy's Credit Department shady practices.
This is unacceptable, fraudulent and deceptive business practice.

We opened a Macy's credit account because the clerk said we would receive a 20 % discount. They sent us a card with an account # and I activated it. We did not get a bill for 3 months and when we finally got a bill it was not for the new card, but for another card. We were charged two late fees and received a delinquency hit on our credit report.

We will never go to Macy's again, there are too many other places to buy stuff where they don't try to deceive you.

I just had a similar problem with my Macy's card. I was unaware that there were two cards, an AMEX card and a Macy's store card. I was getting emails that I had a statement but when I clicked on it showed my account with a zero balance. I even double-checked the card number in my wallet with the one on the screen because I was wondering why they would send a statement when there was no balance. Recently, I received a call saying the I had an unpaid balance from May. The orginal charge was around $25 but the balance was now $90 due to late fees and interest. They explained to me that there were two accounts, one for in-store purchases and one for other purchases even though I only have one card. The second operater I talked to finally explained this to me (the first refused to try to help me figure out what was going on and just kept trying to get me to pay the entire bill over the phone). I was also told that a negative report had been sent to the credit bureau and that they had sent me something in the mail just a few days ago to notify me of the issue. The operator told me that due to the confusion he would waive the two late fees but could not waive the interest charges. I agreed to this and paid all of the rest of what I owed. Now, I see that they have removed only one late fee. I called and was told that since my account was only a few months old they can only remove one of the late fees. I again complained about the two cards being opened without my knowledge. At one point I asked the rep if they have had other complaints about this and he said they did not. That is what led to the Internet search where I see that there are many complaints and some going back 4 years ago. I would advise anyone who is considering opening a card with Macy's to be very careful. It seems that this company has a very spotty record with its credit services. It is upsetting to have spotless credit that is now flawed by such a confusing credit account.

I have just gotten a mark on my credit report after missing a payment for 3 days. Macy's first claimed that they did not get my two other payments and that is why they sent me to collections. Legally, I believe they have to notify you that they are going to send you to collections to give the consumer a right to pay or dispute the bill. PLEASE CONTACT THE NEW YORK STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO COMPLAIN. Macy's is definitely doing some illegal activity. My credit report was very good and I am trying to secure a building for my Non Profit organization and it is important that it stays clean and they have single handedly changed that through completely unethical means

Never ever get Macy's credit card. It is simple nightmare. Big relief to close it. I had been reluctant to get Macy's card many times. Finally I was convinced that i should. Just a stupid mistake. I had problem from the beginning. First, I sent mail payment since the online payment is so confusing and not in professional way. I could not trust it. I was told that the payment was not received and requested $35 late fee. I called and told the rep that I just had it paid and wanted to have the account closed. Then he convinced me in keeping the card and reducing the late fee. I should have had it closed then. I received the call and said that I had belated payment for two months. I have checked online and the balance have been zero in View My Account. sure enough two month late fee while I was not aware of any balance. I finally found out the balance is under store activities(what heck this name is to do with balance?). Finally I told the rep to hold on line and I paid fully. Finally I have the account closed. My take-on is either incapable IT system or intention to trap customers to pay late fee

Three days ago I signed up for a new Macy's card to get the 20% discount on a $260 purchase. Today I went down to use the card again and my $260 charge was disapproved; only $95 was approved as my limit was $300. I have never heard of $300 limit. My credit score is over 700 and I have owned my house for 21 years. My income is over $100, 000 with no bills. What's up with them?

MACY'S IS RUNNING A SCAM...I SINCERELY HOPE A LAWSUIT IS FILED AGAINST THEM...DON'T GET THEIR CARD! IT' NOT A REAL CREDIT CARD! THEY LIE THAT YOU HAVE CREDIT SO YOU GO TO PURCHASE AND THEN THEY DECLINE AND TELL YOU IF YOU PAY 90% SOME OTHER WAY YOU CAN USE YOUR CARD! I'VE HELD their credit card..(Foleys first) FOR 15 YEARS. I had 4 accounts with close to $10, 000 in credi TOTAL...In 2008 they knocked my credit to $700.00 and told me if I want to purchase anything I have to "Ask Permission first" by calling them from the store? THEY JACKED UP MY INTEREST RATE and the other day I was told I didn't have more than $5.00 credit because I owe a balance?
I called corporate office and spoke to Julia and she said it was my fault because of my credit...HUH? I've had worse credit in the PAST WHEN THEY WERE A DECENT STORE and was treated fine...NOW MR. MACY WOULD FIRE ALL OF THEM INCLUDING THE CEO IF HE KNEW WHAT FALSE PRACTICES THEY'RE USING...

That_ Guy must be a Macys plant...

Until my recent irritating Macys experience, I didn't realize that their credit cards were such an issue. My story is that I had a $58 balance on my card and normally I pay through a 3rd party website, but with Black Friday coming on, I decided to pay directly from the Macy's website through my account. I made the payment and then went to Macy's a couple days later and before making a purchase, i asked a sales associate to confirm if my account reflects a 0 balance. she said it was still showing the $58 and said that the online payments usually take up to 5 days to process so I said no problem as I would be making a bunch of purchases that day so I would make another payment at the register and just have the other $58 applied to my purchases that day. Everything went well that day and I made all my purchases and then about a week later, I checked my account online (recent card activity) and it still didn't reflect my online payment. I checked my bank account and both payments had been deducted from my bank account. At this point I'm thinking - OK, give it a little time. Another week goes by and still not reflected on my card activity. I decide to chat with a Macy's associate online and she tells me that my card must be connected to my online account in order for a payment to be applied to it. I'm shocked at this because my online account can tell me the balance of my card and recent activity...so how is it not connected? She then says, I must have my bank fax them confirmation of the payment deduction. Ok, no problem, I call my bank and they said they won't fax my personal banking information but will do verbal confirmation if I'm on the phone. So I call Macys and yes, I get some guy from India or the Middle East and he tells me that they need a fax (not verbal) and I can fax in explaining what the problem was and that I would need to send a copy of my statement so they can "research it". I told him I could give him everything that my online bank statement says over the phone and if he could research it now I would appreciate it. He said he can't take that information from me and it needs to be faxed. I asked for a supervisor and he refused saying that his supervisor would tell me the same thing. What the? I have just faxed them a letter and a copy of my bank statement ... after this, no more Macy's for me.

I It happened to me too! The Macy's credit card fraud. What should I do about this?

"It works like this, when you buy any products from Macy's they ask you if you want to signup for their card service, if you say yes, they try to put your new purchase on the new card so that it gets activated immediately and you become liable to use it. I had given them my existing credit card, I dont know why they put the charges on the new card." With me they never told me that they would open a credit card in my name. The sales person just told me I would get a discount coupon.

I talked to Macy's customer "support" who told me to call the FTC and report it. Even though I asked if they could just send me a bill and close the credit card. When I called the FTC complaints line I never get through, the phone options circles back to the beginning each time I hit "1" to file a report, etc. What is seriously going on here? Anyone?

Yes, unfortunately this seems to be a scam. Or it could be pure inefficiency of the billing agency (in India). The two "separate" bills-system is very confusing. And is not clear at all when you apply, you signing up for two separate accounts. I am still not sure how these late charges get computed. Even after all balances and fees are paid in full, and no new purchases are made, ... the following month ... somehow you still owe a dollar or two ... disgusting ...

I ran into the same Macy credit card scam like everyone on this site did. Here is my list of unhappy experience

1. I opened a Macy's card in May to get the 20% discount on my purchase. After a month, I still did not receive my new card and bill statement. I contacted online agent and found out somehow Macy sent the bill to a wrong apartment number. The agent updated my address to correct one.

2. When I finally got my paper bill, Macy charged me late fee and interest for not paying due amount on time. I asked online agent to remove the late fees and interest because of their clerk carelessness. Fees are removed from my bill.

3. I asked for an itemized bill as I only see a lump sum and not individual purchase on my bill. Agent insisted each purchase is itemized on page 3 of my bill, which is clearly not there.

4. 2 out of my 6 purchases discount are wrong. One gets no discount, and another gets 13% discount. Agent said that 20% discount was applied to my total purchases. After listing all the purchase amount and discount, agent admitted that the calculation was wrong. Lucky I keep all my receipts so I can cross-check.

5. When I said I wanted to report the incident to management attention, agent told me a pop up survey will appear when my chat ends so my concerns are reviewed. Guess what, there is no survey.

I spent 2 hours in 3 sessions to sort out my bill with online agents. I finally paid my balance in store and close my account after making sure my balance is 0.
All this happened in 5 weeks of opening a Macy's credit card. Conclusion, not worthy of my time in opening Macy's credit card.

Hi All,

I got a response from Macy's within one week after filing my complaint with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
You should put as much details as possible in your incident description, and CFPB will forward your complaint to Macy's, so someone at Macy's will have to response.
CFPB is really a good channel to expose department credit card fraud so the bureau will continue to monitor the company and take further actions if needed.
