Macy's Credit card fraud

It happened to me, the Macy's credit card fraud. I am writing this to alert anyone reading of this Macy's fraud department.

It works like this, when you buy any products from Macy's they ask you if you want to signup for their card service, if you say yes, they try to put your new purchase on the new card so that it gets activated immediately and you become liable to use it. I had given them my existing credit card, I dont know why they put the charges on the new card.

I called their customer service to remove the charge from their card and put it on my card. They went ahead and closed it and put a balance on my credit report. All without informing me or contacting me.

I paid their card balance in full this is after they charged me a hefty penalty fees they wont send me a itemized bill. The penalty amounted to 271$, for a charge of 46$. The Macy's customer rep said that I should not have paid without getting a itemized bill, completely side stepping the issue.

I think I am legally entitled to an itemized bill. Please can anyone reading this advise me.

Macy's really hurt my credit score.

And now after having paid them for an year, they wont update my credit report. I call them get transfered from department to department.

I am also writing to find out if there any thing legally. In retrospect , any card which is offered in a Shopping mall is risky, this is to all teenagers and youngsters.

I recently called Macy's fraud dept to report thqat my wallet containing my Macy's card was stolen. Macy's said they cancelled my acct, marked is as Fraudulent and issued me a new acct with a new card. 4 months later the person who stole my wallet began using my id again, even though every acct that was in my wallet when it was stolen was cancelled. This thief (who has since been caught and charged) called Macy's 4 months after my acct was closed and marked as Fraudulent, got Macy's to double my credit limit (even though I had never even used my new acct and card and even though my info was marked as fraudulent) and then went into the Chicago State Street store and purchased a $2200.00 watch! Macy's seemed completely uninterested in this issue, not at all interested in reviewing the video to see if the person purchasing the watch with my id (did not have my new card) was the same person arrested for stealing my wallet (along with many others) so they could charge her with the "stolen" watch as well. I guess as long as they make up for stolen property by charging the rest of us more for their services, they're happy! They admitted that they should not have allowed this person to call the store and get an increased credit limit...especially without a correct acct number and on an acct that had been flagged as closed for fraudulent activity! I will never open another Macy's acct or shop there!

I had a really hard time with my Macy's card. I closed and would never open one again. When I opened it I paid it down right away. That charge went on the M card and then a payment went through. Everytime after that I expressed that I wanted to use the card for the discount, and pay it down right away with my debit card. If the bill was under $30 I would pay it down in cash. I assumed I had no balance. Then I got a bill with a balance of $246.00. When I checked into it even some of the times I paid in cash were being added to my balance and not being paid down. One mistake went in my favor when I used my card to buy $113 worth of clothes and I had used my debit card to pay it down right away, and instead of going on as a charge, it went as a payment against my existing balance and I wasn't charged for the clothing. So my balance would have been $359 if they hadn't made that mistake. But the mistake in my favor just made me want to cancel it even more. It is like they don't understand plain english or even how to process the charge properly reflecting the intent of the customer. I have a bad taste in my mouth from this. I paid the balance to close the account and haven't been in Macy's since. Maybe in a year I will have cooled off enough to shop there again - Sans Card - cash or my own card only - the discounts are not worth the aggravation!

Macy's card is a scam. I open an account with $166.81 purchase. I paid $50 a month until I thought it was paid off. As the the complaint above, I ways unaware there was two cards. I went into the website click my account and it showed zero balance. Then I received a statement stating my $45.00 balance was increased to $72.04 because of late fees. I called to explain the credit showed being paid in full and I was told there are two cards on my profile even though I only have 1. I paid the bill in full and didn't realize they gave me a negative report to the credit bureau. After call Macy's they said there is nothing they could do. I would advise anyone who is considering opening a card with Macy's NOT TO DO IT. They have damaged my credit report over a $45.00 balance. I will never shop at their store again. In these hard economic times, I am amazed that they can treat there customers like this and still remain open.

I had the same issue with Marcy credit card. I took Macy store card and my online account did not reflect the new store card. My other Macy card did not have a balance and I was under the impression I had no balance on Macy card. I got plenty for 800 calls from Macy but the voice mail always said "This is Macy, please call us back" I thought it was a routine marketing call.

My payment was 30 days late and Macy reported it credit bureau. I requested Macy to remove the derogatory remark from my credit report and agreed to pay $30 in full. Macy, the self righteous, credit police was too principled to remove that remark from my credit report. I lot 70 points in credit history, which tumbled from Excellent to Fair rating.

I cancelled Macy card immediately, took Discover/American express cards with higher credit balance and closed my $500 useless and painful Macy store card. I paid off 8K on student loan and regained 70 points I lost in six months.

I'll never shop at Macy again!

Just from reading the comments about Macy's credit card practices, I must say I'm very happy the account was closed. I opened a Macy's credit card account online and was approved but they asked me to call to verify my identity. I called the same day and after answering the questions, the account became active and they even increased my limit. After getting the account number I made a purchase online with the new card. Days later I went into a store to use the card, and they tell me this account has been closed today. I asked the store clerk why and if she could find out what was going on. She had no idea what happened and could not find out. She called a number and they gave me a number to call and talk to someone. She even had the nerve to ask me, "did I use my drivers license to open the account?" As if I used someone else's! I called the number and a recorded message is played saying "consumer fraud specialist" I couldn't believe it was something dealing with fraud and they didn't bother to call! They just closed the account. No one in customer service could help me even after speaking with several different representatives. They all told me to leave a message. It wouldn't make sense for me to leave a message on an answering machine with all my identifying information, when you're suspecting fraud on the account. I called them back the next day and they told me the account was closed due to my credit report and I will receive a letter in the mail. Apparently when you open an account online, a special department, (regular people) looks at your personal report and decides if the account should remain open. Now I'm confident about my credit report and scores. My scores are in the mid 700s so there isn't anything in my report that would be negative. I only applied for card for the discount on something my husband wanted. I still haven't received a letter from them. Then I was told that my purchases I made online will go on the closed account and I would have to pay the balance off or it will report to the bureaus as a charge account with a balance. They also told me the account would show closed! I know how revolving accounts work and its best to keep the card open and not use it than it would be to close it. I attempted to pay the balance so it could report 0 and they told me I could not pay it because a bill hasn't generated yet for the account. I never received a bill or the "letter" they said I should receive. It turns out, they reported the account as closed out with a balance even higher than the amount of my purchase! My scores decreased by 25 points. I still don't even know how to pay the bill because the account is invalid and my ssn doesn't even register in their system because the account was closed by the fraud protection department. This just seems like Macy's scammed me and added insult to injury by reporting the account, when they closed it after a few days. I will never shop at Macy's again! They embarrassed me in the store, caused my credit scores to go down and they won't even let me pay the bill so I can rid my life of them.

What a scam! all macy's credit card holders be sure to look out for the "credit protection $2.00 Fee" . I pay my bill in full every month and for two months i was at a zero balance then i get a email about my statement is ready. I take a look because i know i have a zero balance and i see a $2.00 fee was added for the credit protection. I call custy service asking WTH is going on and there service is a joke he claims he couldn't pull up my acct and will send it to a resolution dept. I told him i want to know who approved this and never add anything to my card again!

Macy's is a a pretty neat store, but when it comes to credit cards, people have to be careful, and when I say careful, I mean VERY careful, one slip can screw your credit score like a domino.. If you can't pay it by store, call the damn hotline before you past the due date, if the bill hasn't arrived yet, get an account online and check it there, if your internet is ###, call them, ask for the balance, the now due, everything you need to know before you get you credit score ### gets screwed.

In March 2013, Macy's did the same exact thing to me and then marked me for 30 dates late. I've spoken to Macy's rep numerous times via phone to get this cleared and every time they admit that it was their fault. In December 2012, items were bought then returned on the Macy's card. There shouldn't be any charges. However, I would call just to make sure that there is $0 balance on my card. And, each time I call they'd say "you have no payment due". So great. I eased my mind and I continued with my life. There were no statement bills, no phone notifications or emails to let me know that I am due, no notifications of any sort. Then all of a sudden in March 2013, I get a call and they tell me "if I pay today, they will NOT report me." First thing in my mind was, "is this a credit card fraud because I know I haven't used my Macy's credit card for a few months except for December but that's a zero balance out ? " . Anyway, I asked questions, then they explained and realized that it was their fault and that I shouldn't have gotten charged. They said they won't mark my credit as 30 days late. Then I received a notification on my credit alerts saying that Macy's marked my account 30 days late. I called and complained, they said they will fix it. Out of frustration and distrust for Macy's, I closed the account. How is Macy's hiring and training their staff ? They are not doing a good job and messing with everyone else's credits. Macy's should not be trusted. And it is still there til this day, I am still fighting to get rid of this mark off my credit report. Please help. Should I reach out to a lawyer ? Any advice will work. Thank You in advance.

People never read the card agreement... they know more about their sports teams... All card agreements are basically the same but our customers (Macy's) choose to charge the account up to the limit, and then complain about the bill. They chose to be ignorant... and then complain when they are charged an interest charge.. or have their guidelines reduced..

Our customers chose to destroy their own credit scores by not paying their bills in a timely manner. When we contact them their accounts are already pass due. Customers pay the very minimum and expect those payments to suffice and bring the account current. I had one account where the customer had 13 late fees because she chose to not bring the account current each and every month... can you imagine doing that with your taxes, or a car payment, or a utility bill... If you neglected to pay your car payment the leasing company has the right to repossess the vehicle. If you chose not to pay your utility bills or contact them when you have financial difficulties they have the right to shut them off. If you chose not to pay your taxes then you are subject to garnishment provisions that are spelled out in the law.

The majority of the comments on this board are the direct result of people not reading the card holder agreement... would you sign a lease without reading the terms and conditions... The answer should be no...

Same thing happened to me! I called and they waived part of my fee and let me pay my balance in full. Via phone. A month mater I gott a bill for 76$ fee. I spent an hour explaining the situation but they won't. Listen and said they won't take the words from the customer. And they said they don't have records for precious conversation either. Shame on them. Will close my account immediately.

Recently there was a fraudulent charge on my Macy's American Express. I have never used my Macy's CC anywhere but Macy's, but somehow I was charged $45 for purchasing a gift card at Amazon.com, which was fraudulent. I contacted Macy's and my experience with them was simply a nightmare and I still feel like it's not over. During my initial phone call in February, I was transferred to Macy's Fraud department and a representative confirmed that it was a fraudulent charge after a 3 way phone conversation with me, herself, and an Amazon sales representative. I was told that the problem was fixed, the account was closed, and a new card was sent to me. My sigh of relief was temporary. Yesterday, 3/11/14, I received a bill from Macy's and the same fraudulent charge was on it as a previous charge along with a late fee and interest, which totaled to $52. I forgot to mention that this fraudulent charge was put back on the new account. So I called Macy's again and was transferred to the fraud dept again and put on hold so the representative would check again with Amazon. I was on hold for 15min, when another representative came on and wanted my name and security information again. I told her I was already being helped and was put on hold. Her response was that the call was transferred to her. So we started all over again: name, verifications, explaining the same story about the fraudulent transaction all over again. She apologized and said that she was from the dispute department and needs to transfer me to the fraud department. I responded that I had already spoken with someone in the fraud department and was on hold when she came on. She apologized and said I need to be transferred to the fraud department and put me on hold. After 10min, another fraud representative came on and I had to repeat the story all over again. This time, for the first time, I was told that I need to complete a sort of fraud form that I will receive by email, mail, or fax. I said this is the first I'm hearing of such a form and her response was simply that she's just doing her job. Needless to say, my frustration was building at this time, but being the nice guy that I am, I chose to receive the form by email. And then she told me that it'll take up to 90 days after completion of the form to get a decision whether the fraudulent charge will be removed from my account or not. All of a sudden I just could not remain nice anymore and told her this had turned into a nightmare and asked to speak with a supervisor. She kept saying that she was just doing her job and again put me on hold. Finally, a supervisor came on. Now I had been on the phone with these people for about 45min at this point. The person presented herself a supervisor and tried to help me. She told me that since I was not informed about the form earlier on when I first called in February, I don't have to complete the form that was to be sent to me and since the fraudulent charge is small, the charge will be removed from my account and she will send a confirmation letter by mail. Therefore, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the $52 will be removed from my new account and not show up again on a future bill. With his said, I don't think I will ever shop at macy's with a credit card again.

Has anyone had a similar problem with Macy's and how was it resolved? This is my first nightmare experience. It's even more frustrating when I think that I'm not even at fault here.

I was a customer with credit card since 2006. They did not send me a statement via mail, said i changed to email, which i didn't, plus had an email that was 7 years old. Oh my g-d. So I get this statement with a nasty collections letter and $35 charge for late. They would only refund half the late fee, the lady I talked to had attitude, the supervisor, actually laughed at me. I am so insulted by the lack of professionalism. I'm astounded. I paid my balance and closed the card. I'm mailing letters. Also, they couldn't tell me if this negatively was reported on my credit record. I'm furious. Have to wait til business hours Monday and call.

I think it is disgusting when you get talked into signing up for a Macy's credit card because of the 'discounts' it offers, you use your own card to pay at a store spending over a thousand dollars thinking everything has been paid then and there and a couple months down the line you check your statement and realize there is a balance. Such a shambles, trying to swindle people for every penny you got. How do you win?

macys calls all the time, harrasing bunch of pukes, sobs, ###, they charged my wife 25 dollar late fee, for one month being late her total bill is about 100 dollars only yet they tacked on a 25 dollar late fee . she supposed to pay by the 18th this month, but in the mean time they are calling from ohio, india, day after day 7 days a week about this small bill . now have never had a company like this act this way. they are ripping people off with their high late fees and their card is charging 25 percent interest. also they added to the bill a 3 dollar charity charge not approved by her . so if they put that 3 bucks on everyones charges could be millions of dollars for nothing. what charity are they talking about ? so as soon as we pay them their money for purchases and their slimmy 25 dollar late fee and bogus 3 dollar charity charge along with their high interest, will never ever even look at one of their stores for the rest of our life. worse customer service unfriendly business ive ever known.

Worked at Bloomingdales, which is owned by Macy's. If you are late by one day you get sent to creditors. They hold checks when you do pay your bill off until the next cycle if you pay late resulting in late charges going to the next month. If you don't pay close attention to the "roll-over" fees? Guess what? Ohio calls. I just had Experian fix my credit and close the stupid card. At the time I worked their I had no choice, but to get a card. Now that I no longer work there? It's closed. Rule of advice. ALL store credit cards will ruin your credit. Don't do it. As employees we have to hit a quota. But as a consumer it's death.

I am involved with the same scam. I cannot get an itemized bill. I have cancelled by Macy's because of their fraudulent practices, but cannot get an itemized bill to determine what to pay. There are all sorts of interest payments etc. yet they refuse to send an itemized bill. Also, got involved with two credit cards. I will never step in their store again.

I had the same issue with Macy's card. Macys did not send me any statement in dec 2014 and Jan 2015 for a purchase of $19.xx that I made in Nov 2014. suddenly I got a statement on 1st March, of $77.00, coz they charged $23 for for December 2014 and 37;xx for Jan 2015. They did the same at the first time as well. I got the statement after 2 months with a good amount of late fees, however, they weived off the fees after I called. When I called the customer services today, the way they spoke to me is like, "well... if you do not come to macys... it does not matter" It may be true, I am a small customer, I felt bad and closed the account. Macys is good, but not the only good store in the US. I will never step into Macys from now on.

Here's how you get a full refund:
1)First, It very much IS partially your fault for not having checked the statements, terms and conditions, and also for signing up for a retailer credit card.
2) If you call and say you never accepted/requested the protection, guess what? That will only get you a 3 month refund or so, you get a letter saying so. If you wanna dispute that further, macys WILL find your recording/signature or whatever was the way you signed up and show it to you saying "You accepted, the protection was available should had wanted to use it, you're not eligible for a refund"
Think of it this way: Say you purchased a car, never crashed it, and after several years you notice that it was purchased with insurance with it that has been charging every month. Is it okay for you to say, "hey, i never used the insurance, so I should get my money"? Nope. If you say you didn't accept it or knew about it, well only 3 month refund.
Now, i understand you didn't ask for it, but okay, here's how to pursue a refund.
3) Macys itself is in somewhat some trouble for not making people aware of this protection when enrolling. So if you say you were already DISABLED, UNEMPLOYED, or RETIRED ******BEFORE****** enrolling in the program, THEN you get a full refund. Why? Because macys should not have sold you/enrolled you something you couldn't take advantage in your situation. Or something you would have obviously turned down if it was explained. So call credit protection, ask since when do you have it. Then say you were unemployed at the time it was enrolled, or that you were disabled already, or that you've never worked, whatever; one of those 3 magical words: already 1)retired, 2)disabled, or 3)unemployed. They will say that they might ask for proof that you were already retired/disabled/unemployed, but thats the safest bet to get full refund. IF you were indeed retired/disabled/unemployed, then by all means, say it and easily prove it, should they ask for it.
As always, keep it classy and respectful with the people on the phone. Don't say it on the calls, but you definitley know it was partially your fault you are in this mess.

I must comment to butchered mess... First of all the payment was one month late... and you admit it. You are subject to the terms and conditions of the card agreement whether you read it or understand it or don't understand it. That is true with all credit cards not just Macy's and you will receive late fees. If you do not decide to pay off he balance in full before the closing date each month you will also be charged interest. If you have questions about the card and your billing statement please contact us... If you want an itemized statement we will be happy to send one out to you.

Here's the solution to the problem pay your bills off when you receive them; allow sufficient time for them to process... do not make minimum payments on any credit card. If you can't pay the balance in full always pay more than the now due

In my comments I always remind customers to read the card-holder agreement no matter what... If the store associate becomes impatient with you who cares.. There should be a box on the sign up form stating that you have the option to receive credit protection on the account... many times customers check yes without reading the full disclosure. Always read the full disclosure... Pay your bills when you receive the billing statement and never make a minimum payment. Allow sufficient time for them to process and don't wait until the last minute that's all for now.

This card is ridiculous! Do not apply if you do not have a great memory to pay it off right away! Besides the super high interest, their call center have the worst customer service! I was out of country for 2+ months, all major credit card company are willing to remove the late fees, this blood sucking monster only willing to remove $18 while charging me $105 for late fee! BTW, my outstanding balance was only $40, you see how non sense this is! You know what they say? It is your fault, and you need to take the consequence. OK~ Cut the card right after the call!

I HAVE THE SAME SITUATION NOW!I went out of the states for 2 months and then I ended up with loosing 105 credit score on my credit history. I called and I explained everything, but they just don't listen even the so called supervisors. Macy's credit card is a national scam!

I opened this card for what it offers, but it was the worst thing, I’ve ever done financially. My credit score is over 800. I run my Real-estate business on my high credit score. I’ve never been late one time on a payment for the last 30 years with over 150 bills/month that I’m responsible for.

I had my Macy’s card links to my bank account with automatic payment, then Macy’s decided to change my card number, and never mail me a bill. They said that they sent me a notice of changing the card number, but I did not receive it or confused it with the junk mail. I found out through my credit monitoring, that I’m 2 month late, so I drove straight to Macys and paid my balance in full without seeing the bill. In 2 days, I get another alert that I’m 3 months late, so I call the customers service and move all the way up to talk to the main supervisor (last name is Z), and I explained the situation but he refused to do anything, because it is my mistake that I did not update the account number…! I event told him that I’ve been a card holder for so many years with an outstanding credit score, but the only respond I got is: SORRY.

Please stat away from this credit card. Whatever $5 you save on your purchase, they get you back in late fee and lower credit score (they charged my around $200 late fees).

I HAD MY ACCOUNT HACKED SINCE 2 YEARS AND THEY KEEP ORDERING STUFF ON AND ACCOUNT THAT IS SUPPOSELY CLOSED SINCE DECEMBER AND I CALL MACY'S WHEN I GET NOTIFICATION OF AN ORDER AND TELL
THEM THIS IS A SCAM THEY SAY OKAY NOT TO WORRY I AM NOT BEING CHARGED FOR THE MERCHANDISE
AND THEN BY THE NEXT DAY I GET ANOTHER NOTIFCATIONS AGAIN FROM MACY'S SAYING THEY SHIPPED THE MERCHANDISE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON WAY TOO LONG I NEED A FULL TIME JOB WITH MACYS JUST TO MONITOR MY EMAILS AND MAKE PHONE CALLS TO MACY'S AND THEY STILL LET THEM GET THE MERCHANDISE I JUST DO GET IT?

I live in Trinidad and Tobago and never shop online at any Macy store and receive a credit card transaction on 16/06/2018 $5000.TTDs. That is Identity theft .

Macy's needs to work a little harder on fraud prevention. My wife opened an account two years ago, kept it open with a balance for several months, then paid it off well over a year ago but decided to keep the account open for credit report purposes. She shredded her Macy's credit card then and never requested a replacement. However, someone was still able to somehow purchase expensive jewelry somewhere and charge it to her account. We're already working with Macy's Fraud Investigations Department. But how is this even possibly? How can someone charge expensive items to her account without an actual physical card? And without any way to get her account, credit card number, etc. My wife has not used the card ever, the only purchase was in-store two years ago, and it was shredded so long ago. Plus her statements are only available online. It seems to me Macy's is being careless.
