The Pep Boys Tire and road hazard warranty not honored.

I bought 4 Cooper Advant 75,000 mile tires on 10/09/2020 for $103 each and installation package for $110. Also, at that time I also bought lifetime rotation $17.99 each tire and road hazard insurance $12.50 per tire. Around 1/2023 (27 months) I experienced a low tire light and pulled into a PepBoys at McMullen Road, Riverview Fl. The service attendant added air and told me I needed 2 new tires due to wear. I explained the tires were just a bit over 2 years old and only had a third of the projected mileage. He stated I should take the car back to the original PepBoy Store and have them prorate and change the tires out. The original store 1809 Bee Ridge Florida stated the tires were fine and just needed to be rotated. June 2023 another low air light so I took the car back to 1809 and was told to go elsewhere or make an appointment which would be a couple of days out due to being low on staff. I took the car to a Goodyear dealer, and he confirmed again I needed two new tires due to wear. Additionally, there was a nail and a rip in a third tire which was leaking, so for safety, I decided to replace these troublesome tires. When I called 1809 to asked about my recourse and to inform them, I now had a second business telling me the tires were bad, I was told wear is not warrantied and if the tires are worn out, they are worn out. There is no recourse with PepBoys regardless of how many miles you have on the tire unless it is in a 90-day window and that is only for defect. 1809 states that even if the tire only has 30,000 on a 75,000-mile tire it doesn't matter. If it is worn out there is no recourse because it could be due to a bad alignment or road issues. Tires wear out differently. Additionally, I when I noted that I had paid for road hazard insurance and balance which is on my receipt and had the car to them, I was told yet again there is no assistance at 1809 and I am just stuck.

I also noted at that time the invoice stated I waived road hazard service even though it showed paid for on the receipt. So, I wonder where the funds went because it certainly didn't go toward correcting any issues, I was experiencing.

I was basically told everything was fine but when a second shop made me realize it was not, I was told to go away.

I expect the tire expert to be fair and honest and help keep my car safe. The service I expect is an honest assessment of the health of the tires, stand behind the product the company is selling, prorate and credit the consumer for tires that are not wearing properly, as stated in the paperwork, document and honor the road hazard warranty not just take the money, advise the consumer if a balance or alignment is needed, and assist the customer when there is a problem in an emergent situation such as a tire going flat.

However, when it come to the PEPBOYS on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota Florida, BUYER BEWARE, because according to1809 there is no warranty for wear and tear, only for defects and if that is excessive wear and tear or any other defect it needs to be taken up with the manufacture not the store where the tires were purchased. Tires that are projected to get 75,000 miles but become unsafe 30,000 miles is not their problem and there is no recourse or correction. I purposefully buy good tires to avoid these issues and right now I am very unhappy with both the product and the provider of service. I feel I was shorted by the quality of the tire and the service provided by the seller. I will move this forward by contacting the manufacturer of the tire to hear them out. I bought 4 new tires new; 2 dead due to wear and tear, 1 dead due to a nail and a rip, 1 almost like new! All on the same car and extra warranties and care purchased, 2 shops told me the tires were bad and should be warranted and neither stated it was the alignment or the road that caused the issue, yet 1809 told me the tires were fine and when I found out they were not they stated, "Not our problem".

So how long would this shop have let me run on these bad tires, just so they didn't have to honor the warranty, or the road hazard protection purchased? PepBoys 1809 is off of my list of places I will do business in the future, and I advise others to take warning!

Desired outcome: Prorate and give credit from when it was originally noted 2 tires were not wearing properly. Honor the road warranty purchased and replace the tire damaged by road hazard.

The Pep Boys Employee mistreated

my grandson worked there part time while going to college, he worked Fridays,Saturdays,Tuesdays and every other Sunday. he went on vacation and when he returned, he called to make sure he was on the schedule to work on Friday and was told he was not. he was told they probably thought he was still on vacation so not to worry about it. Sunday he goes to work and can't clock in, he had been deleted from the system. 2 days later he was told that Robert from humane resources had terminated him with no reason given. this kid work almost 2 months without getting a paycheck because supposedly nobody knew how to set him up in the system. he waited all that time to get paid and this is the way they treat an employee. Robert deserves to lose his job, he is very unprofessional.

On Monday, May 15, my car would not start when I tried to leave for a work appointment. After failed attempts to jumpstart the battery, I had the car towed to Pep Boys in Baldwin, as I work in Bellmore, and that is the location from where the car had to be towed. Someone from Pep Boys (Baldwin) called me to get details on why the car was towed there, and said he would call me back with an estimate. He called me back a short time later with an estimate of approximately $1400.00. While I had expected this to be an expensive repair, I felt that was high; however, I was stuck. It was too expensive and time consuming for me to get the car towed elsewhere, so I agreed to have the work done. They completed the repair on Tuesday, May 16, and the total bill was: $1461.89. I thought that was quite high, so after I got home, I called the Pep Boys in Bayshore. I did not get the gentleman’s name, but he had an Indian accent (I think he was the manager). I asked him to quote me a price, and I specifi3d the make, model, and year of my car, and he quoted me $850.16. I was furious. At first, I assumed that they took advantage of me because I was a woman. When I looked more closely at my itemized bill, I noted that there was work done that I did not want done. The ONLY reason I had my car brought to Pep Boys was for the alternator (and the battery if it was too run down). The charges that I authorized to be completed included:

- Alternator $461.99 (- 10% discount: 46.20): 415.79

- Labor to install alternator $249.00 (- 10% discount: 24.98): 224.02

- Labor warranty $42.48 (- 10% discount: 4.25): 38.33

- Battery $199.99 (-10% discount: 20.00): 179.99

- Battery installation pkge $14.99 (-10% discount: 1.50): 13.49

- Battery protection service $9.00 (-10% discount: 0.90): 8.10

- Prtctrs tmnl combo $3.99 (-10% discount: 0.40): 3.59

TOTAL: $883.21

There were other charges on my invoice, which included:

- A/C system leak eval $29.00 (- 10% discount: 2.89): 26.11

- A/C dye $5.99 (- 10% discount: 0.59): 5.40

- Refrigerant (x5) $4.19(- 10% discount: 2.08): 18.87

- Evacuate & recharge $109.99 (- 10% discount: 11): 98.99

- Refrigerant service (X16) $4.19 (- 10% discount: 6.70): 60.34

- Additional access interference $78.50 (-10% discount: 7.84): 70.66

- A/C alt w/p p/s belt $96.01 (-10% discount: 9.59): 86.42

- Cranks (no start) $99.99 (-10% discount: 10.00): 89.99

TOTAL: $456.78

I was in a great deal of distress that day. All I wanted was for my car to be able to drive; I was not interested in A/C or anything else. The fact that they did that extra work is not acceptable. That was taking advantage of someone who was in distress and needed help. Had I been in a more rational state of mind, then I would have asked more questions when I got the bill. Had this not been an emergency, my fiancée would have been with me, and this wouldn’t have happened. I want to be refunded for the work that I did not want done, and did not authorize. I am not asking for an adjustment in the tax, but I would expect a refund of $456.78 for the unnecessary work that was done. You can either refund the amount back to the card that was used for this transaction, or you can send a check to my address (496 Gibbs Pond Road, Nesconset, NY 11767).

I have spoken with the DMV about this matter, and they want me to keep them appraised as to the result. I had brought this complaint to the office where I got my service done, and they never called me back, even after several emails.

The Pep Boys Tire repair for nail

On 4/7/23 I had an appointment @9:30, there was no parking available & being handicapped looked for handicapped space. none available due to several vehicles not having handicapped authorization were in all the spaces. an employee outside told me in a not too cordial manner that "I would have to park behind the building". being handicapped this was difficult for me to do. entering the front door, I was not greeted or asked if the employee could help me. he was on his cell phone so I stated my name & that I had an appointment. he took my keys , looked at my tire &reported that I needed a new tire. I had purchased my set of Michelin tires from PepBoys almost 2 years ago & I stated I wanted the same new tire. He then told me the Michelin to match was discontinued & gave me some other name tires. I asked if there was not a Michelin comprable to the ones on my car & he said in a very rude manner, "lady I have given you your choices". Because of the way I was treated & the employee's obvious lack of desire to help me, I asked for my keys, told the employee I did not like his attitude & that I would never do business with Pepboys & would certainly report this to Pepboys. For your information, I discovered that the Michelin tire I was asking for was not discontinued as he had stated & I was able to purchase it from another dealer, not Pepboys...

I had a very unpleasant experience with everything about my visit.

The employees are lacking in courtesy & respect for customers who have come to do business there. They need some additional training on people skills...

The Pep Boys Negligence in replacing the brake pads

I had a flat tire so went to Pep boys at 3124 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance, CA 90505 to put a new tire in. At that time, they told me my brake pads need to be replaced also as they are wearing out. I agreed to let them do it. Dropped off all day Saturday and picked up after paying $941 dollars. On Monday I went to work and, on my way, home on the freeway car jerked and suddenly stopped. Huge whiplash and was completely traumatized. Cops came within 5 minutes and told me that I was extremely lucky that no car was behind me otherwise it would have been a horrible accident at such a speed and possibly severe injuries or death. I was obviously petrified. Cops helped to call a tow truck and move me out of the freeway to the side street. Then I called my tow company and had my car towed to the same Pep Boys. They were about to close so I told a lady name Kristen what happened, and she assured me that they will take care of it next day. I had to miss work due to no car. I waited the next day until 10:00 am and no call. I called Pep boys, and they acted like they had no clue what the problem was and will look into it. After an hour, they told me a nut/bolt was loose or wasn't properly installed during the brake pads replacement hence the brakes failed and came to a complete stop. Unbelievable. I could have died due their careless mistake. When the job was performed, I went to get my car, there were no apologies, no refunds of any kind, no regrets, just casual here is your car take it. I told I lost a days' worth of work which loss of pay and had to pay for the tow company. They casually said oh sorry about that. See you next time. Beyond upset and will tell everyone that I know about this experience. Cops told us to start an investigation as this is pure negligence and life threatening, possibly sue them for putting me in such a danger. Extremely disappointed at their service and attitude! Never in my life will I go back there again

The Pep Boys Overcharging

I went here on Monday morning to get my windshield wipers linkage replaced in Savannah, Georgia. The mechanic at the front desk gave me several quotes. Initially when I arrived, he quoted something like $214 for the repair. Then he took it upon himself to start adding things to the repair to inflate the bill like three windshield wipers. I inquired about how three wipers came into this repair and he tried to explain I needed them; this was a lie because I had just purchased new ones recently. I told him to take those off because I did not request them; always ask customer first before just adding things on the bill. So, now this was about $400 totaled up. I decided not to do the repair at the time because the warranty was not paying for it. I did pay the diagnostic fee of $89. When I was getting ready to leave, I asked him to print me out an itemized quote and this time this bill came to $458 even though I had paid the diagnostic fee. I questioned him on why this bill kept inflating each time, and he was stumped just saying "This is how much it is." I told him this was not so and he was only a thief trying to rip customers off because I had previously gotten a quote total $250 from another shop. I told him he thinks people are stupid and he would be reported. He then told me he did not care. I hope they fire this guy, or he goes to jail because he is helping to bring on lawsuits against this company. He just can't go around charging people "willy nilly" prices and think they are fools. Any and every one reading this, please be careful with this ripoff company and take your vehicle elsewhere for ethical repairs. This place is garbage!

The Pep Boys Failure to latch hood pins when I drove off my hood flew open smashing windshield and damaged roof of 98 mustang

On March 29th 2023 I took my vehicle by appointment to pepboys on 7400 S. Walker Ave in Oklahoma city, Ok 73139, for tune-up at 1:30pm, they called me to pickup at 6:30pn I walked on my lunch break from work and drove off my hood flew open smashing windshield and damaged the top roof caved in I called and let them know they sent from the person who gave me the keys a email address to send pics of damages she instructed I did so but didn't go through next morning went back to them another lady took photos of my car told me that her manager was on vacation and would be contacting me

Desired outcome: I want the damages repaired immediately

The Pep Boys Service and charges at Pep Boys 1703/Spring Hill, FL

Air Conditioner repair at Pep Boys took days longer than promised and then we were treated incredibly rudely by the manager, Peter Lopez-Pastrana.

Tacked on to the outrageous price was a $212 fee for "extended warranty" which I did not authorize or want.

Entered shop 3/28... returned 3/30. Manager had asked to keep car for weekend to finish. Called 3/30 as I was on my way out of town to say car was finished and had to be picked up and/or paid for in advance.

Owner/ manager was extremely rude when we insisted on checking their work before paying the bill.

Desired outcome: Refund extended warranty and apology for rude treatment to an elderly woman

The Pep Boys Front-end alignment and wheel balancing

Took my honda pilot to pep boys on walker and i240 in okc. Have had to take it back 2 more times, first time I was told a wheel wasn't properly balanced and 2nd time that front end needed realigned and I'm still having issues. This is what happens every time I use them it takes returning vehicle to them several times to get it corrected and I'm done doing that.

The Pep Boys Oil change and damages to car

I just brought my car for an oil change and was told I need a new starter as it did not turn. I said that is strange and they provided me with a quote of 800... I said I will pass and get it towed home. 5 mins later, actually we got your car started it was a dead battery... My starter and battery was fine before I came today. I see my abs, brake lights, and swerve control lights on which is not normal. Manager jonah explained that is normal when they jump start a car... It will turn off once I start the car a couple of times. I drive off and right as I get onto interstate 80 to sacramento all the power goes off and I was lucky enough to pull over before fully getting on... I pop open my hood and see the terminal for my battery is off. I call pep boys back and speak to jonah the manager. I said hey you just worked on my car and this happened. I need you to make this right and come jump start my car and tighten the cable. We did not touch the node and cable. You jump started my car... And said I needed a starter... Shady... I am going to reach out to corporate as this ended took me an additional 4 hours to get home as I had a dead battery. Need to wait for tow. Very unhappy and I am sure this scam happened to others.

Desired outcome: compensate for my time and cost it was for me to purchase and install my own battery

The Pep Boys lug nuts to Honda Accord 2015

Yes I arrived today at pep boys Fresno California on Blackstone 3655. I went in for a oil change.tire rotation they said they could not do the tire rotation. Due to the fact the back passenger tire lug nut didn't want to come off. And that it will cost $190 to take it off plus fix it and total was $190. I went home I removed the lug nuts to the back tire with no problem. I was lied to it was discriminatory with an attempt to rip me off to buy other parts to fix it. I'm very dissatisfied as a customer which attempted for pep boys to take advantage of me and rip me off. Mind you I removed all lug nuts myself there was no problem with the lug nuts then I had to go back to pep boys for them to fix the problem when they're the ones that create a problem I'm very dissatisfied. This complaint holds merit and Lisa foundation for the inquiry of your company attempting to rip off the consumers.

Desired outcome: You should have an internal investigation into pep boys for attempting to rip off the consumers and violate state laws in California..
