Customer service
I came into the store wanting to use their western union because I had already came in there to buy some groceries previously. Well when I came back from unloading the car everyone was on a register and it took managers to all of a sudden say that the machine was done and I would have to go somewhere else down the street. It bothered me because they couldn't take the time to help me but had time to step away from the register and tell me to go somewhere else! It was unappropriate the way they handled this situation when I overheard one of the managers say to the other there is on one at the service desk and assume that the machine was broken!

Home delivery
lthe store called this afternoon to tell me my debit card wouldn't go through for an internet delivery order. i called my bank and was assured there was plenty of funds available. After the store tried several times to run the card and the bank claimed they weren't going through and the fault was with Vons they said they would try again and call if it still didn't work they call. When no call came I assumed it worked. When they hadn't delivered by 7:30 i called customer service and was told the delivery had been cancelled. I use an electric scooter because of a disability so going to the store at 8;00 wasn't an option. I am diabetic and had nothing for supper or breakfast because of a stupid manager. Yet I had ordered from amazon at the same time and it worked fine.

Not enough checkers
The clairmont square vons never has enough checkers I have to wait 30mins to get checked out and the supervisor didnt ever care she did not help out the poor checker, that checker was taking abuse from pissed of customers and she has no help no one to back her up! That store is the worest vons I have ever been to.
But that checker that night is one of the best checkers I have met.

Poor service & long lines - reseda @ nordhoff in northridge
The von's store location at reseda and nordhoff in northridge, ca. Is the worst von's store ever. You guys don't now what your talkin' about until u been there. They suck!
Every time a wait of 20 minutes or more. They go in, but they dont come out! Also I have seen dozens of people exit the store with no items because they have given up in disgust with this stores lines and attitude.
They are continually in defiance of all that it commen sense and oblivious to customer service, and almost seemingly purposely avoids their customers and almost in defiance throws the von's customer service hotline 800 # at you, almost taunting the customer with this info as this is the answer why they don't have to work efficiently, or open a new checkout line when there are 20+ people all waiting in disgust with this place!
A monkey blindfolded with one arm, smoking, and scratching his # can do a better job than the entire staff at this location, with one exception. I like the hot food area and the manager of that area is awesome, other than them, the entire crew are in a slow motion world.
This has been ongoing for too long now. I hereby state thet they are understaffed mentally! They suck! Nordhoff and reseda von's you suck. And you owe me hours of my life back! Your lines are ridiculous and your refusal to address these issues is a spit in the face to the northridge community. I live 1 block away from that von's store but now I choose to go miles out of my way to the ralph's store, and they are great over there and with awesome prices! I will be a loyal raplh's fan whenever possible from here on. I hate von's at nordhoff and reseda blvd. This store acts like it's next on the chopping block.

Terrible customer service
To whom it may concern,
I encountered the worst customer service on 6-19-09 in the Chino Hills store Vons store #2597. Not only the supervisor onsite, Rob, refused to resolve the issue when it occurred and asked us to come back tomorrow to talk to the manager. One of the clerks, Sandy, also took over the issue by distracting her supervisor and gave us the worst attitude I ever encountered in any store. She even came towards us in a very threatening manner stating “what do you want?” “what do you want?” We got scared and kept repeating what we need, and she replied “I heard you the first time!”
I have been a loyal Vons customer ever since I was a child, and to this particular Vons when I moved to Chino Hills. Yesterday I brought the Vons Ad to the store thinking I am going to get a good deal on the beers, 12 packs for only $10.99. I especially made the trip for this item to the store at 8:35pm. After I waited in the line, the Supervisor Rob rang us up for this item at $13.99 + CRV $0.60 + Tax, which comes up to be over $15 dollars, entirely different than what was shown on the ad. I showed the ad to Rob, but for some reason, Rob went to the clerk Sandy for help. Sandy come to our line and stated firmly to us "this is plus tax and CRV". When I questioned her calculation (CA tax is definitely NOT 30% on alcohol), she just looked at us and said "Do you want this or not?".
My sister was too shock to say anything and we decided to just leave the store. But right after we stepped out, we discussed further, and felt horribly upset. Not only did the supposed Supervisor Rob did not assist us, the Clerk Sandy felt the need to help him and pretty much kicked us out of the store. We then went back in the store, trying to speak to the supervisor again. Now Rob is available, he decided he can talk to us and try to resolve this issue with us. However, Clerk Sandy continues to step in trying to distract Supervisor Rob from helping us! She was practically yelling his name across the store to get his attention so we cannot speak to Rob! How very rude of her!
This is no longer about the difference in the price, but this is about the emotional distress this woman, Sandy and this man, Rob, put us through. Along with my sister, being two petite Asian women, we cannot help but wonder, is this just another case of discrimination against minorities in America? I certainly will not want any one of my family members, friends, nor neighbors, to have to endure this sort of negative experience EVER!
Thanks you for your time to read this letter and I am sorry to say that from this point on, we will not step foot into another Vons, and I will certainly make sure those around me are aware of my experience at this store.

Cashier kicked us out of line/store
The other night, Friday July 31st at approximately 8:36 pm
We got into a very long line we saw a shorter line and got at the end of that line.
Next thing we know, a man holding a baby in the line to the left of us starting telling us to get out of that line and go to the end of his line,
we told him we were not in his line, he said that the cashier was going to be closing and was moving all the rest of the people into the line
we just got into. He was at the register putting their stuff on the counter.
His friend in line with him started calling my husband names and cussing at us.
The cashier then came out from behind the register and pushed our cart out of line, yelling at my husband that she was going to close her line and move the
line over there and we would have to get out of the line, go to the end of her line. We were at the end of the line and could not understand why she would do this to us.
My husband asked her "do we have to take our business to another store?" and she told us "we do not need your business here".
The guys kept yelling obscene words to us and she did not ask them to stop or to leave.
I was very upset and so was my disabled daughter that was with us.
I was afraid those guys were going to start a fight when they came out of the store, they just kept yelling at us outside
as we were going to our car.
I reported the incident to the manager the next day, Saturday August 1stl
He told us he would watch the store video from that night and talk to the casher.
He did not take our names or anything, but told us he did appreciate our business and did not know why she was even closing her line when the store
was that packed that night and he would talk to her.
We are not satisfied with this, we are afraid to go back in the store.
I called him today, Monday and he had not checked the video nor done anything about it.
We would like to see more done about this situation and find out why she would have let those scary guys cuss and yell at us in front of the customers
and my family and not stop them, instead she chose to come up and yell at my husband and push our cart out of line and tell us they don't need our business. We know she has seen us there for years and don't know why she would have decided to side with scary people and push us out of the end of a line. I would like to see someone like this not put to work in the back of the store and not around customers, bad for business and the safety of the customers.

I have been using home delivery from Vons-Safeway online home shopping for 2 years.
Most orders have some problems but the customer service representatives one has to deal with are absolutely HORRIBLE.
The customer service representatives leave customers on hold for 15 or more minutes just waiting for them to answer and then they are rude... if your order has arrived melted they argue that the trucks are refrigerated... even when the ice cream is melting through the box and the driver is covered in sweat. Furthermore, Vons representatives have reported to me that they are keeping detailed history notes on customers which I found out is what is prompting them to be so terribly rude to me. I have not given my consent to Vons - Safeway to compile information on me. This is a violation of my civil liberties and my right to privacy. I spent an hour and a half today attempting to get refunded for a completely melted and spoiled order... The first rep at Vons homeshopping, Kathy, hung up on me after reporting that her manager Andrea was out to lunch and that she would not assist me. The second rep, Curtis, after a 15 minute wait reported Andrea was simply too busy to get on the phone with me and reported that detailed history files were being compiled on customers and this somehow gave him license to be extremely abusive towards me. I called the other number on my order, the general customer service for Safeway and was handed over to tamara who identified herself as a supervisor, she left me on hold for several minutes and when I asked for a contact number for regional management I was placed on hold again and then another supervisor Coby Archer came on... he did not give me contact information for complaints to regional management either and placed me on hold again... telling me Andrea is on the phone somewhere else helping ME with MY order? Then a supervisor for homeshopping who identified herself as Missy popped on the line... Missy agreed to allow me to record the conversation in which she refused to give me the regional managers name, told me that there is a policy or guideline which states she can refuse to refund my order unless I (a disabled customer) haul the merchandise down to the store, leave the spoiled groceries downstairs in my apartments lobby or cancel my weekend trip to await a callback from a driver to pick them up at their leisure. I had a 1-3PM delivery window. I began calling customer service at 3PM and was hung up on and transferred and placed on hold until 4:30PM. I told Missy I would give Vons until end of day to pick up the groceries and was still told that she refused to refund my purchase. I contacted my credit card company and placed a chargeback on the purchase and the driver who made it back before 5PM was unable to get through to customer service to ensure my refund. He was nice enough to sign a receipt for the merchandise and said he had informed his manager earlier in the day that the refrigeration unit on the truck was not working.
The online home shopping department of Vons - Safeway are absolutely horrible rude people. They have no concern for the well being or satisfaction of their customers. They go out of their way to cite non-existant policies and argue with customers who they know have disabilities and require their services to be timely and correct. Vons - Safeway home shopping are compiling notes on their customers that are not only an invasion of privacy and a violation of civil liberties rights but are making their representatives go out of their way to be abusive to longstanding customers. These representatives cite policies and guidelines that do not exist to further their abuse and lies.

Today 12/28/08 at 2:00PM after shoping at Vons Supermarket in Huntington Beach CA, I, reminded to cashier about my $27.00 gas card that was not working at ARCO Gas Station after trying for three times, the cashier asked the supervisor to look at the matter, he was a nice personn calling the number to find out what was wrong, all of the sudden Mr.Long show...

I have been a Vons Customer for over 30 years. In my current town of residence, Scripps Ranch San Diego, there are 2 grocery stores, both Vons. This has never been a problem for me as I have always liked shopping there. However, recently it seems like the cashiers are getting less and less friendly. That, I can deal with. But today I spent $413.oo at Vons and the cashier said that I would be getting more "free gas" added to my card. I was overjoyed. Then she asked for my card. I didn't have a card because I threw my previous gas card away. NO ONE EVER TOLD ME TO KEEP IT! When I received the first gas card I was thrilled. But they never said to keep it. So I told her that. She said "sorry you have to have it, I can't give you another one." She told me to see the manager. This manager was the rudest man I have ever talked to . He said "I can't just issue you a new card" I told him no one had told me that I needed to keep the card. Mind you, I have shopped at this particular Vons for 10 years and spend about $300 a week there. He said "Well, everyone has told everyone about keeping the card, I can't give you a new one" Then they gave me a number to call. Have you ever tried to call Vons customer service? Give yourself a few extra hours and some patience. I once tried to call to make sure that my credit card was not charged for something after their computers went down.So I am not even going to attempt calling the number. I know that they figure they have the market on us in this town so they really don't care. Not that it really matters to them, but I will take my business to a nearby town from now on. I did it for months in 2003 when Vons was on strike. I can do it again. I can't imagine how hard it is to issue me another gas card or at least explain to me why they can't. And telling me that everyone has been told to keep it. Essentially he told me I was a liar. When you walk down the isles at Vons some employee in every isle asks you if you are finding everything, almost to the point of annoyance. If I couldn't find something, I'd be happy that they were available to ask though. So is that how they are working on customer service and then letting the rude employees be the cashiers and management?

No wamder You are feeling like that `but keep in mind these people are the lowest paid in USA so they do not have any motivation to be nice to you, and still they are' so a little more respect from the both sides does not hurt!
Food poisoning
My husband and I were visiting Las Vegas for our 28th wedding anniversary. We stopped at the Vons (dstore 2615) after golf to pick up some snack food. At the deli counter they were offering '5 dollar Friday Chicken Tenders' - 1 LB for $5.00. We bought a pound (about 5 tenders) and asked for Honey Mustard dipping sauce. About 4 hours after eating them I became violently ill, throwing up followed by alternating chills and sweats. 4 hours after I became ill my husband did the same. We know it had to be the tenders and/or honey mustard sauce as it was the only thing we both had eaten that day.
Obviously this ruined our weekend. We were not able to do any of the things we had planned. We spent 36 hours in our room with an occassional venture out for gatorade or sofa drinks. It was miserable.
I'm not surprised, VONS (Safeway) in Las Vegas is a rip off. Who knows what they use and re-use to fry those chicken tenders. I have been ordering VONS home delivery for years, however, I noticed that the prices shown on their weekly flyers do NOT match the prices online. I sent them an e-mail on June 25 and another on June 29 asking why the difference but to date I have received no reply. An example, the flyer shows 4 limes for $1, online it shows 60 cents each; mayo $1.99 online $3.99; I could go on and on. I live in Las Vegas, and like hundreds of others I do not have a car, it has been 110F every day for the last two weeks and continuing. Me and many others wish that another supermarket like Smith's or Albertsons would provide delivery service so that we don't have to depend on VONS who, like most businesses in this town, are here to take advantage of the old, the poor and the disabled.
False advertising
My Sister and I saw Von's full page ad in the Union Tribune on Friday, Sept. 26th. Vons advertised products for our Jewish New Year on sale in their stores. Included were kosher turkeys, blintzes, yortzeit candles, noodles, challah, etc.
We drove to 3 different Vons Markets on Sat., 9/27, in search of these foods. The stores are in 3 different areas of San Diego. In all 3 stores, not only were there none of these advertised products, but the store managers looked at us as though we were crazy ! Nobody seemed to know a thing about this ad.
Vons falsely advertised, their personnel treated us with no dignity, and we both feel that this borders on prejudice as well as lack of backing up the ad they published.
We would like an apology as well as an explanation for this . We feel that perhaps Vons is not the market we should be shopping in.
Overdue refund
On 12/24/07, I bought two gift cards for the family of a homeless boy that I tutor at a North Hollywood shelter — a $50 card for groceries and a $50 for Sears department store. A few days later, the mother of the boy called to tell me that they had taken the bus to Sears, picked out their merchandise and then were unable to pay for it as the card had no...

On Aug 15th, I purchased a $50 AMEX gift card for a friend as a gift. I later on find out that the card had a zero balance. I called the VONS corporate office & they agreed to replace the card. I picked up the replacement card and later on find out that the replacement card also had a zero balance! I called once again and they apologized & agreed to replace the card for a 2nd time. I picked up the 2nd replacement card and it also had a zero balance! Is this a joke? Am I just supposed to forget about the $50 and write it off? I want my money back! $50 may not be a lot for some people but it is a lot for me! Refund me back my money VONS in Granada Hills in cash or a check-not another gift card!

On 9/2/21 i was over charged $70. This is not the first time as it has happened many times. I went back to store on same day and talked to supervisor (Dustin) who was in the back office. I explained to him that everything I had marked on my receipt had rung up wrong and that most of it was the Fab 5. He never even looked at the receipt and said I would have to walk and show someone what I had bought and the price it should have. I told him I was tired, and that my leg was hurting me he said well you can use the wheel chair. I said I don't have the time to go threw everything (that it was a lot, 25 items) and that last time something like this happened Joanna just took the newspaper with the Fab 5 ADVERTISED items and fixed my $50 problem last time. So, he had me walk with (Nick) some kid that bags, I asked him if he understood how the Fab 5 works and he said yes. I started with the lean cuisine and showed him the receipt so he could see I wasn't getting the Fab 5 price only the sale price. He said Well did you buy 5 items? I had bought 6. I said I don't think you know how this works and he told me I was wrong. I went back to supervisor and told him that this guy doesn't know how Fab 5 works and Nick told me I was wrong. The supervisor then said to me that I can walk with Andrew who I said OK great, he is a nice guy also a bagger. I show him the Lean cuisine and he went off on me telling me I am a crazy lady and to get a life and walked away and went behind counter and they called me names again with the supervisor... The supervisor Dustin would not come out from behind the counter to walk with me and told me he needed to see each item. This is crazy. He's telling me I need to go home and get everything I bought and bring it back in? I am now freaking out as this is ridiculous. I go home and circle every Fab 5 in the paper I bought, match it to the receipt and went back to store. I said to Dustin that I was going to try to explain the issue one more time. Let's match all that I bought that was on the Fab 5 to the receipt and if he would LOOK at the receipt, he would see what was wrong. He said Well he needed to see what size of everything I bought. The size is not on the receipts, but the reg/sale price is, and he could match that to the receipt. I asked him to please come and look at what I was talking about. He told me he was not allowed to come out from behind the counter I finally begged him to just come out and look at one item (Jell-O/pudding) so he came out and look at what the price is on the floor and what I paid. It should have been .99 (as it is advertised in the paper) and I paid $1.99 I bought 11. (Just on that one item I was overcharged $11.00) He says well what size did you buy. I yelled well look at the orig. price and match it up. and then he said OH. OK I will give you the Refund. Not Oh I'm so sorry or you are correct or anything like that instead he walks away from me. He is being a jerk on purpose to get me as upset as possible. Bottom line I was at this store 5 times to explain what was wrong. Today Joanna finally (who thinks her staff can do no wrong) fixed and gave me back my $70. (That I was over charged on advertised items and should have never been over charged in the first place). Along with trying to bribe me with a $25 gift card. A few months ago, the same problem happened to me for around $50. (Joanna at that time also helped me) This problem is ongoing but usually not to this amount it is usually around $20. but it is still happening, and it needs to stop. I have spent hours on this ONE shopping experience to tell them what is wrong when it's your mistake in the first place. No one should have to worry about being overcharged on their purchase. You can't see how its ringing up by item as it takes off the sale price at the end. You can't see what you are being charged on each item as its being rung up until the sale is final and you get the receipt. When you shop once a week for a family of 4+ cats and dogs. usually, I have 2 carts of stuff and I spend hundreds of dollars every week. I am not going to hold up the line once I get the receipt to check each item, I do it at home to be courteous to next customer to not hold up the line. I am (was) a good customer (i guess Vons doesn't care about how much I spend weekly and that I have been a customer there for over 20 years) For me to be called names behind my back, to be given such a run around on a mistake on your end. For me to spend hours on this whole thing again is a joke. Why does the customer have to prove the error as if I'm lying because this is how they are making me feel? no wonder I am upset.
Poor customer service
I went to Vons at about 8pm on a Sunday night. I only had to get about 6 things. I thought this would be a quick trip. When I approached the checkout there were two VERY long lines. I looked for other checkouts with the light on. I looked for the 15 item or less line. The only lines open were the customer service line and the 15 item or less line. Each line...

Von's Supermarket-agita for life. Agita, a perfect word in Italian to describe my feelings for my local Von's supermarket. Customer service isn't the perfunctory, Didyoufindeverythingyouwerelookingfortoday? Customer service is where you say to the customer, "I'm sorry you had to come back to the store to correct OUR mistake." I hope we can serve you better next time you return." And of course, this is spoken looking directly at the customer with some sort of, albeit fake, sincerity.
I don't shop at Von's because they have the lowest prices or a sparkling clean market, far from it. I go there because it is the closest option in my many options to by food. My checker, trying to get done with the day, was so quick to ring me up she forgot to give me a substantial discount on a product I'd purchased, $9.65. I did think my bill was a bit high and putting my groceries into my trunk I noticed the mistake. If it had been any less, I swear, I'd have just gone home but I was irritated by her actions in the first place.
After I waited in the Customer Service line the guy looked at the receipt, looked at the ham, walked to the cash register and gave me my change. No apology, no smile, no kiss-my-#-I-hate-all-you-people. He then stood there and watched me struggle to put the ham back in my bag. I still do have a broken wrist and a noticeable brace on my right arm. I had to ask for his help.
Mistakes happen, I'm well aware of that, and I'll even go so far as to say I should have been paying a bit more attention as she checked me out but for the love of all that's good, would it have killed them to be a little more cheerful?
The customer service section of their website is no answer as I wrote them, received an e-mail about how I'd hear soon from someone. That was a month ago. They must be too busy counting their money to contact me.
The guy at the deli's counter whom was going to cut lunchmeats for me had his latex gloves on, he noticed scale's printing paper was out. He put new paper roll in the machine, closed it, and proceeded to cut meat with the same gloves that he had on. He also manhandled meat pieces after cut. Has he ever been told why should he put any gloves on for this kind of work that he's asigned ? I doubt it.
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY
IN FACT---THEY SEEM TO HIRE THE RUDEST CLERKS
FROM VENTURA TO ESCONDIDO
THE OTHER DAY I MERELY WANTED TO FIND OUT SOMETHING THAT I'D DISCUSSED WITH THE REGINAL MANAGER-AND I ASKED, COULD YOU PLEASE FIND "SO AND SO" I SAID, PAULEETTE, PAULINE, OR CLAUDETTE OR CLAUDINE--I DIDN'T SAY "SO AND SO"..I SAID, I'M NOT SURE OF HER NAME, BUT I SAW HER IN THE STORE TODAY AND I KNOW SHE'S THE REGIONAL OR VISITING MANAGER, QUITE POSSIBLY, THE "DISTRICT?" MANAGER/ SHE'S AWFULLY NICE-THAT'S MY PERSONAL OPINION, I DIDNT SAY THAT TO THE CLERK. THE CLERK AND HER FRIEND MAKING FACES AT THE NEXT REGISTER "SHOUTS AT ME" SO, WHO IS IT YOU WANT TO TALK TO (I SHOULD HAVE CORRECTED HER GRAMMER BY THE WAY BUT THE GIRL WAS ALREADY "BOTHERED "BY MY NEED TO FIND THE DIST. MANAGER ETC., !) IT'S WHOM..ANYWAY...REGAARDLESS..THE CLERKS "BOTH" CHIME IN TOGETHER "WHAT'S HER NAME" I SAID, I'M JUST A CUSTOEMR-YOU, SHOULD MAYBE KNOW HER NAME--AS YOU WORK WITH HER, AND I DON'T..THEY WERE TRYING TO EMBARRASS ME BECAUSE I COULDN'T RECALL HER NAME.AND PROBABLY UPSET THAT I EVEN "PREFERRED" BRINGING MY COMPLAINT TO HER. THES GIRLS AT THIS ESCONDIDO STORE ON EAST VALLEY PARKWAY, ARE EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE, OUTSPOKEN, ATTACKING AND GOSSIPY...THEY'RE MOSTLY OUT OF "PHYSICAL" SHAPE..AND I WONDER HOW THEY CAN BRING THEMSELVES TO EVEN LOOK IN MIRRORS IN THE MORNIGN TO BRING THEMSELVES TO WORK! THEY WORK F O R CLAUDETTE, OR PAULETTE...OR, PAULINE, OR CLAUDINE..GOD KNOWS, I TRY BUT CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME, EXACTLY..THESE CLERKS AREN'T BUSY ENOUGH, APPARENTLY, AS THEY PICK OUT CUSTOMERS TO SHOUT AT AND EXAGGERRATE THE SITUATION TO MAKE THE CUSTOMER APPEAR TO BE AN IDIOT? HOW SHOULD I KNOW HER EXACT NAME.I KNOW SHE'S NICE-I KNOW SHE'S NOT A REGULAR NINE TO FIVE EMPLOYEE-AND IS A SUPERFVIOSR, A DISTRICT MANAGER--THAT'S PRETTY MUCH FOR A CUSTOMER WHO JUST WANTS TO RETURN SOME BAD FOOD... TO HAVE TO BE REQUIRED TO "KNOW" AND REITERATE, I'D SAY. HOW UNHELPFUL. SURELY THEY KNOW HER NAME, AND DONT' HAVE T MAKE A SPECTICAL OF ME, TRYING TO REMEMBER IT! THEY'ARE ALWAYS CRABBY-WHY DO THEY BOTHER EVEN WORKING AT A GROCER STORE IF THEY DON'T "LIKE HELPING AND GUIDING" CUSTOMERS WHO LIKE TO EAT?

I am 57 years old and am seeking work. I saw an add on retirement jobs.com for various positions for the Von's stores so I sent in a resume and was called for an interview. When I went in for the interview well dressed I was treated coldly by a Gal by the name of Elizabeth and I could tell because of my age she was not interested and said she was not really hiring right now but just trying to get a feel for the kind of people looking for jobs. I was furious when I left since that is false advertising on many websites and I wasted my gas and time for a job I thought I would have liked. They say they are an EOE but this gal surely did not play by the rules and I am considering legal actions since this was blatant discrimination because of my age. This Von's is in Camarillo, Ca on Mission Oaks Blvd.
went to go buy a Matzo Ball Soup mix, when I found it on the aisle I came to discover that all of them were expired, every single one. Months expired. I also bought Carrots and Potatoes. Just got back home to find out that Both the pack of carrots and Potatoes are all rotting.
I am not paid by Vons, therefore I should not be forced to check myself out when I have over 20 items including produce. I should not have to use self check Period. The store needs to have suffient staffing.

I asked for my Atlantic salmon to be deboned with pliers. Butcher said this was not a service they provided. I would suggest this be added to your regular butcher service. It is a very common request and this is the first I have been denied.
Bad business practices
I am writing you about the most unpleasant and disappointing experienced I have ever had at a grocery store. On October 13th I received two $25 Vons/Safeway gift cards for my birthday. On October 14th, at approximately 11:15 P.M., I bought $32.35 worth of groceries and used one of the two gift cards. I took another one out, whereupon the checker took the card to speed up the process. I cannot honestly say if he swiped it or not but, one thing is certain, he took the card from my hands, told me no funds were on the card and kept it. Thinking he had the card I previously swiped, I slide the card in hand which, through sleight of hand, was the card I slid before.
These are the facts, which, can be confirmed by checking not only the surveillance video from store #2257, I had two gift cards worth $25 each. I swiped one and the checker took one and told me no funds were on it. I swiped the same card again two more times, which can be concerned in the Vons system. Upon leaving the store I felt as though I had been short changed but decided that perhaps my father had given me an extra gift card with no balance on accident. I called my father the following day and he confirmed that both gift cards did indeed have $25 on it, and that the checker must have taken a card with full balance. My question to the checker/cashier should have been, “why are you so eager to take my gift card which, according to you, has nothing on it, while you leave me with another gift card which actually does have nothing on it?” Why was he so eager to take one card instead of offering to take them both?
On Monday, October 16, I called the number on the back of the gift card I had and talked to Vladimir at ext. 1661 and told him my story. I immediately contacted the Vons (store 2257) where this took place and talked to a supervisor by the name of, Robert Verdugo, who surprisingly was of great help. Unfortunately, I would find out later that he was the only one helpful in the whole of the company. Mr. Verugo told me he would look at the surveillance footage and call me the following day. He kept his word informing me that a manager would need to look at the footage and get back to me. My immediate question to him was, "Why wasn’t this done in the first place?"
I urged them to look at the surveillance footage so that they might ascertain the truth of this matter. The checker, seeing that I showed obvious signs of drowsiness, took advantage of the situation and stole my gift card, telling me there was nothing on it. I am most unhappy how store 2257 handled this matter. They never apologized for what happened nor did an actual manager personally take care of the matter. I had to contact Corporate and only through them was I able to get results. 72+ hours after the fact, they issued me another gift card but what of the hours I wasted tending to this matter? I will never shop at any Vons store again and it gives me no satisfaction to write this letter, but I implore you to ask yourself one thing, If someone stole your money, your birthday money, wouldn’t you want the matter resolved as soon as possible and expect some kind of apology?
Today at the Vons in Agoura Hills california the manager of the store wrongfully accused my son of shoplifting. When we proved to the manager he wasn't by showing him our receipt instead of apologizing he scowls at us then just walks away. needless to say we are never going to that market again
