I purchased niacin inositol hexanicotinate in late November, from a Walmart in Inver Grove Heights, MN (store number 5089), and became extremely ill soon after. It is under the Walmart owned Spring Valley brand. Yesterday, I learned that this form of niacin is toxic to the liver and none of the niacin in it is available to the body. I only bought it because it was the only kind of niacin sold at the Walmart I shopped at, and I was tired and wanted to go home. This is a defective product that should not be sold. It does not have the well-studied health promoting effects of niacin nicotinic acid, and yet Spring Valley advertises it as heart healthy. That is a lie. It is toxic and does not have any bioavailable niacin at all. It is damaging to the liver and robs those who buy it for heart, brain, circulatory system benefits etc., and the opportunity to buy the true healing form of niacin, which is nicotinic acid. Not only that, but it is the only form of niacin sold by Walmart, and that is outrageous. Walmart is doing a grave disservice to its customers and is responsible for harming the health of customers. Walmart is also destroying its own reputation by engaging in this kind of behavior. By the way, I tried to return this defective product and was told it was not possible as I had missed the store policy of accepting returns only within 90 days by two days. That is also outrageous. I have had around fifty medical visits since taking this supplement, not suspecting it could cause harm. I was extremely sick, and only started recovering when I stopped using it. Walmart should be selling the safe and healing form of niacin (nicotinic acid) and should not be selling this non-bioavailable and liver destroying formulation.
