unsatisfactory care
When I went to Aspen Dental 2 years ago for a dental cleaning, I was suprised to have an ultrasonic gum cleaning being performed when I did not ask for it to be performed. I inquired about it and was told "it was in my treatment plan". I stated that I did not agree to this service and didn't argue further about it. When I scheduled this dental appointment, I specifically said I just wanted a cleaning- not the gum cleaning I had last time.
When I arrived to my appointment, I was told that they had to stick to the treatment plan- with gum cleaning. I stated I refused this treatment but the dental hygentist wouldn't clean my teeth- she stated that I needed to speak to the office manager. The office manager comes in and says she sympathizes with me but the treatment plan must be followed. She says the hygentist must do what is best for my teeth and her repuation is on the line. I offered to sign papers stating that this was not an issue of money (2 dental plans to pay for services) and not a matter of me being uneducated about the importance of clean gums (I am a nurse), but a service I did not want to suffer through again and my gums appear just fine. Since when did the customer/patient not have a say in what THEY want? As a nurse I know that I cannot force treatment on patients against their will and this applies to ALL forms of healthcare. Aspen Dentals office manager insisted that they would not clean my teeth and give me an exam without the gum service being performed. I walked out and me and my family will never go back.

has no compassion
Our regular dentist was on vacation when a front tooth broke. I would not be seen in public with this tooth missing. It was a clean break and I thought that a bit of glue would hold it in place for a few days until my regular dentist was available. Aspen advertised walk-in service so I called to verify and after explaining what I wanted they gave me a same day appointment. Upon arrival we again explained that we only wanted a tempoary fix to hold us over and was told "no problem" they gave me 3 pages of questions to fill out and said that an x-ray would be required. When I was in the dentist chair, doctor Young Park said that he could do what we asked but REFUSED to do so because we were not coming back.
We should have been told up-front instead of waiting until then. Plus they had the audacity to bill my insurance for an x-ray and oral exam. What a bunch of money grubbing, unethical, expletive-deleted...
Hey Postpay
Sounds like bad communication between the front and the back. They could have saved you a headache had they told you upfront that they were not interested in treating you because they couldn't make enough money off of you. See if you go back to your regular dentist anyway then they are not making any money and well...it's all about the money.
fraudulent diagnosis
I am in the process of having Aspen Dental investigated in RI and attempting to have the entire franchise investigated based on the complaints here. My complaint is they mislead patients and misdiagnos them for the benefit of monetary gratification and are in violation of the ADA Code of Ethic, more specifically Code 5.A and 5.B.6. I will repost the results when more progress is reached. I went to my prior dentist and they did the same testing and report I do not have to have a scaling done and my gums are in healthy condition. They even refused to clean my teeth unless I have this procedure done which is not needed. I'm not letting this go. People are having it hard enough surviving without be ripped off by their dentist.
I am encouraging everyone to report their complaints to www.bbb.org/us

generally an awful business
I have been a patient at Aspen Dental for a few years and have finally had enough. Every time I have an appointment, I have to be on top of them about what my insurance will cover - whether it's a routine cleaning/x-rays or a filling. They have done an x-ray that was not covered and then charged me for it at the end of the appointment. They have tried to give me a white filling twice even though my insurance only covers silver fillings. They literally balance bill me for every single appointment. I have to call them every time to let them know I am not paying this bill. I requested an x-ray from them to bring to my oral surgeon when I was getting my wisdom teeth out. I made this extremely clear and they still gave me an x-ray that didn't even show my wisdom teeth. I had to leave my oral surgeon appointment to drive across town to get the correct x-ray, which I had to pay for a 2nd time, even though it was their mistake. The final straw was this past appointment - I had one of the first appointments of the day at 8:00. I was not taken in until 8:15, and the hygienist proceeded to scrape my teeth and gums so roughly that I was crying. She saw the tears and laughed. Then when she finished, she told me to wait for the dentist to inspect my teeth. I waited for 15 minutes and the dentist never came to see me. I finally left after I had been at this appointment until 9:15. Unfortunately, I still have to deal with them one last time - they balance billed me for a simple cleaning and bitewing x-ray AGAIN!

I had 3 appointments set up for a "deep cleaning, " then a regular cleaning and tooth extraction, and cavities. I went for the deep cleaning, couldn't keep the appointment for the tooth extraction, and they told me it could all be done on the day I was getting fillings.
When I came in for my appointment, I was told they would not be doing my extraction due to "staffing levels" and that the extraction wasn't on the schedule for what was supposed to be done. This was despite my Saturday appointment being bumped half an hour sooner previously SO this could be done all at once.
After my teeth cleaning, they filled ONE cavity, and whoever was doing it, I hope to God he wasn't a student, jammed something in my mouth the wrong way and it slipped off. Luckily it didn't hit anything in my mouth but sure made me flinch.
Whomever was holding the suction vacuum pretty much sucked my tongue out of my mouth, but didn't even get all of the filling material out as I had to stop them halfway through the procedure to pull a piece of it out of my mouth or I was going to gag.
Upset I wasn't getting my tooth pulled, I had to reschedule my appointment on their next Saturday they had open (yeah, they're open ONE Saturday a month, one day late a week). I guess its too hard for them to understand that people like me have to work a full time job and cannot just take off days of work to have a tooth pulled. Anyway, their Saturdays apparently don't become available until a certain "time" and I guess I got lucky! However, she seemed unsure to schedule me because the dentist that day WANTED TO KEEP A LIGHT SCHEDULE! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I am the customer and you say that right in front of me! I was very offended by that, and probably won't even go back. I will say that the oral hygenist there was the nicest person out of all of them, but I don't care for the office manager.
STAY AWAY! Especially if you have a regular 9 to 5 job they certainly don't do enough to cater to their working clientele.

poor service, worst dentist ever
Aspen Dental is the absolute worst dentist office I have ever been to. I have had so many issues with them I don't think I can remember them all. First, they pulled a tooth I needed to crown that had a previous root canal done and I am now questioning if it needed pulled in the first place. When pulling the tooth, he cracked the one next to it. So while waiting for my bridge to be made, which took THREE times because it was improperly made, it throbbed constantly and he would not write me script for any type of pain medication without coming back in for another visit. They told me on one of the many trips that I did not have an appointment even though I had my appointment card with me, so more time off of work. Now top it off I get a bill on Friday that is due on Monday when I was told that I was paid in full. So if you want a dentist that is just out of school and doesn't have a clue what he is doing, questionable price gouging and procedure necessity, then feel free to go here.
Most of the dentists can barely speak English.

unjust work
they made partial dentures for me after I had teeth pulled//cleaned//filled. which would not have happened in first place if I knew they could not do there job right. so why should I suffer when they did not do there job. will not give me a refund on the money I paid. which was 800 cash 1500 carecreditcard. not 198 dollars that they said is what the partials cost. I have a statment that says they were 449.50 each.

I've been to Aspen, and have nothing but praise for them. The staff is knowledgable and professional, and they offered me payment plans which is something no other dentist was able to do. My friend reccomended them, and I will do the same to anyone who needs a good dentist.
No offence Taylor Jr, but I've seen your other (multiple) posts complaining about Aspen, and the 'before' pictures of your teeth you posted, and I don't think you can blame them for the way your mouth looks. It's obvious you havent exactly taken care of your teeth over the years. I think they probably did the best any dentist will be able to with a combination of false and real teeth. You might want to consider full false teeth. There is no way to make a mix of white straight false teeth with your yellow crooked real ones look good that I can think of, but blaming the dentist doesn't seem realistic.
poor services and billing practices
Aspen Dental Services in Hermitage, PA provides poor quality services. My husband and I both went back multiple time to complain about corrective services not provided correctly, but they have not made any corrections. They continue to state that the work was done properly despite pain, broken out teeth, and poorly fitting devices. They were very quick to recommend so much work in January of this year that they exhausted the whole years worth of my dental benefits, charging the maximum amount to two dental insurance policies. Then they continue to send us bills for large amounts of copays above our insurance company's contracted rates. They have not submitted claims properly to the insurance company so I had to call the insurance and get the matter corrected myself. The office manager there informed me several times to disregard the bills because I have a zero balance and don't owe them anything, but they continue to send me bills for large amounts of money when they have not corrected the services they provided. I cannot go to another dentist for the next 6 months for routine or corrective work unless I pay for the services out of pocket. I have attempted to resolve this with Aspen directly in the office where we received services and thru the patient services line. They doe not respond to phone calls or emails. When I called at the end of June, I had to call three times and was on hold for very long time during all attempted calls. When I finally got a representative on the line she wanted to argue that I was only on hold for six minutes. She said that someone would call me back the same day, but no one has contacted me and it has been a month. I have now filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau and my insurance company. They are a very poor service, but very interested in collecting as much money as they can from the insurance companies and patients. They also balance bill the patient above the insurance companies' contracted rates, which they are not permitted to do. Also, if a customer makes an overpayment, Aspen will not automatically refund the overpayment. The customer must request it and then wait for the refund.

poor denture fit
I started my procedure for upper and lower dentures eight weeks ago. I should have known it was going to be a rough ride when the intermediate dentures were not ordered for my extraction. The fit was so poor that I had a bulbous mouth, the plate was thick, teeth to big and the bite alignment was off. It continued to get even worse when the second pair arrived and the bite was so bad that they couldn't even get them in my mouth, then they called and set we need another impression (this makes three). I refused to see the doctor there and they sent me to the Beavercreek office, where the dentist agreed that the denture was a poor fit, he made knew impressions and were rushed so that I could finally have some teeth in my mouth. When I arrived for my appt. the next week they tried to do another wax try-in...the denture was never sent out to the lab.
At this point I've asked for my money back ( I have no confidence that they can do my implants) and was told that I'd have to turn in my dentures and wait for a refund. I've lost work for over a month and wonder if they will ever get it right.
Don't go to Aspen Dental, though the office staff is very helpful and friendly it's a large corporation with deep pockets and they do no take care of their clients.
I have been 4 weeks without bottom teeth since I went to aspen dental and they extracted all my teeth. The bottom denture will float side ways if I open my mouth. Needless to say my food consist of mashed potatoes, cottage cheese and the likes. I have gone back at least once every week and so far its the same problem. They have not even tried to adjust the denture. The dentist did cut some of the bone out of my jaw. Did that help? Nope. I am so disgusted I am not sure where to turn next. They have billed my insurance the max and then charged the Care Credit care 1000 dollars. Try contacting someone at CareCredit. I stayed on hold with them 45 min. 23 min and 38 min and have yet to be assisted. Anyone got any advice, please help.
malpractice
A hygienist at Aspen Dental during an overpriced and severely unsatisfactory teeth cleaning chipped my bridge. I have only received questionable work there and I don't want them in my mouth. I told them that i want my money back and they keep trying to sell me more procedures instead of trying to fix the problem they created for me. I was somehow persuaded by their selling tactics to get my bridge replaced by them, or to get a better bridge free of charge. So, I made the appointment. This will be the third time this week I will drive an hour there and back to get to this hole of a place.
Today they called me (after I told them that I didn't want to have them do my fillings) and say they need to change my appointment to get 6 fillings (that I don't want) instead of fixing the bridge they broke! Their reasoning being that they need to do the fillings BEFORE they can schedule the appointment to get a proper impression of my mouth for the bridge.
This didn't add up since the day before they already took impressions of my mouth and set up my bridge appointment. The only difference is that I told them that I didn't want any more treatment. I found out online that they are targeted for a class action lawsuit that many people would love to be a part of. I just want my bridge to be replaced and it would be great if they paid for it. Thanks complaints board and those who post! You have saved me a lot of pain and suffering because I am NEVER going back there and letting them mutilate my mouth again!

I moved to Aspen Dental after a change of insurance when I had to move from my trustworthy dentist and made the bad decision to use Aspen Dental. My issues started in 2013 when I was told I needed two crowns. One of the crowns hurt after being placed. It hurt for over a year and 3 months. I went there complaining of pain about six times. Every time they would x-ray and say there was nothing, filing it down and sending me home in pain. I finally got someone's attention when I said I was going to go to another dentist and get a second opinion. They remove the crown and found out I had a problem cause by error. They agree to redo the crown for free but now I needed a root canal, on top of it all and because I didn't use that side of my mouth for over a year, I have now another crown and two cavities I have to pay for. I questioned them about it and was told that happens because of the lack of use. To make matter worst, I have scheduled appointments that were not fulfilled. It is really interfering with my life. I am going on a trip overseas using a temporary crown that hurts when I touch it and hoping I don't have an emergency. Honestly, I would NOT recommend Aspen Dental.
What a let down Aspen Dental was, is. They will not honor your appointment time.
It took me three years to muster up the courage to make and keep a dentist appointment. I, like many others, have a phobia. Aspen Dental was very aware of how difficult it was for me to make my appointment today and yet they still refused to see me after being just four minutes late.
As I said, I arrived four minutes late after sitting in traffic (through no fault of theirs) for forty five minutes. After waiting for five minutes the receptionist informs me, with a smile on her face, that they have to reschedule my appointment. She let me know that the paperwork they insist you fill out will take thirty minutes, that my appointment will take an hour... and therefore their dentist will not be staying to see me as my appointment will run past five, their closing time. Why then did they schedule an appointment at four if they never intended on keeping it? Aspen Dental made it crystal clear that starting their weekend at exactly five is far more important than patient care.
I am so disappointed with Aspen Dental, I thought they were different, truly cared, I could not of been more wrong. I will never trust Aspen Dental with my mouth. I can only hope and pray that they never treat someone like this again.

stop do not go to aspen dental
ASPEN DENTAL is outright fraudulent. Customers and Insurance companies beware of this company.
They offered free examine and x-rays to new customers so I thought I would give them a try.
They took the x-rays and a dentist examined my teeth.
Apparently I had a severe gum disease that required “special treatment and cleaning” so they were unable to clean my teeth without having me come back another day for the “special treatment”.
Suddenly they also found a cavity.
I have had healthy teeth all my life and was chocked finding out that this may be the end of it.
I asked them to show the cavity on x-rays but was quickly told that it was on top of a molar and could not be seen on the x-ray.
They issued a Financial Arrangement (estimate) document which they asked me to sign.
$868.00 Total Treatment Amount
$503.20 Estimated Insurance Benefit/Savings
$364.80 Total Patient Share
I told them that I wanted a second opinion and left the office.
After a couple of weeks in fear I finally went to my regular dentist to get it over with.
Here they cleaned my teeth and said everything looked good.
Now I asked if I had any signs of gum disease and if she could check again for cavities. She checked and reconfirmed that everything was in perfect order.
ASPEN DENTAL WOULD HAVE DEFRAUDED ME AND MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOR $868.00 AND DRILLED IN MY HEALTY TEETH if I had believed them.
Every time I see their commercial on TV I used to kick myself for not having warned others.
So here you go YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Lilly, You can try patient satisfaction. The will contact the office for you and pressure them to correct the financial issue.
When they tell you the person you worked with is no longer with the company it really doesn't matter. They have an office manager and a regional manager and it's their job to fix this for you. Don't take no for an answer and stay on them. You can always show up in person at the front desk when they open. Nothing like having someone at the front desk with a bill in their hand when there are patients in the waiting room. Good Luck.
What can we do about getting these dental offices to quit ripping us off? They are such frauds. They said I needed my teeth all pulled so I did but they overcharged me but refunded my money and then my husband went and had work done which now we find out he didn't need done and they have overcharged him but I can't get it resolved. I have called them numerous times and they say they will call be back but naturally they never do and today I called them back after waiting and they said neither girl I had talked to was no longer with the company. I would never recommend them to anyone. The same dentists are never there.
I also went to Aspen and got ripped off. They overcharged me and my husband for dental work. I am having a hard time resolving the issue. They keep saying they will call me back but never do and then when I call them they say that girl is no longer with the company. I have proof that they overcharged me too.
You are right, people with severe gum disease will lose their teeth. There is a lot of it out there. Red swollen gums, loose teeth and I have seen some scary x rays. Some patients are in real need of treatment. I still don't recommend Aspen.
In my opinion, for most patients Aspen is a rip off. Why do so many people keep complaining? Why do patients return to the Aspen office and say a second opinion from another dentist revealed no problems? That's what happens when treatment plans are to average 3-4, 000 per new patient. Dental problems are invented.
I've also seen inflated treatment plans and hammering people to accept treatment that may not be needed. Aspen is all about the money. Daily huddles that mention the deposit from the previous day and where the office stands for the month with budget.
Office managers and doctors get a percentage of the profit. Patients beware!
Who said this person has "deep pockets"? There are patients with this problem but most of the patients I talk to have healthy gums. Why is it with Aspen most every patient needs STM 1 or STM 2? Let me answer my own question. With Aspen. it's all about the money! Those of us that work of have worked there already know this.
If you have been to Aspen. always get a second opinion and I'm willing to bet that you won't need most of the treatment plan if in fact you need any of it.
I would be asking to have periodontal readings done. If you have periodontal pocketing, which can show no symptoms, you do have gum disease. If your regular dentist is not doing this every year, he should be. Otherwise he is being neglagent in not diagnosing gum problems.
I had the same experience. I was told I had gingivigtis and they had to debride my teeth. I was told I had SIX cavities and that the area above my bridge was decaying. The estimate was around $2500 AFTER the insurance. I told them I did not believe them, took my X-Rays and left. I went to another dentist and without telling him what ASPEN told me, got his opinion. I had no sign of gum disease and one cavity which was not one of the ones they said I had. Additionally, there was no decay above my bridge. How do they get dentists to say these things at the risk of their professional license? It's a lot of work to get a DDS. I don't know how these people are still in business, but whatever you do, don't go!
big coporate greed beware
The Aspen Dental scam happened to me at their office in Springfield, Ohio. In June and July 2010. I firmly believe that the reason that they are such a big corporation now is because they have been scamming for some time. Really, what is irrigation with Chlorhex?
My insurance company can't tell me. They treated parts of my mouth that were healthy with Arestin and still haven't been paid by my insurance because they don't have proof that the treatments were indicated. I, on the other hand paid for my portion of those treatments before I realized that they were'nt covered. They are opportunist and they are not alone. I went to a small dentistry and they are less expensive and more caring. Stay loyal to the indepentent dentist and steer clear of corporations.
I am an Aspen Dental patient and I am very satisfied with the care and treatment I have received from the Springfield, Ohio office. I went in to have extractions and dentures. There is a dental plan you can purchase yearly that dramatically cuts the cost of their dental work! Also with care credit I am able to make affordable payments on my dental work. The staff is awesome, caring, and kind, Dr. Shue also. He called to check up on me "after hours", after my extractions. They have went over and above to make sure my dentures were comfortable and still do as I have to go in and have realignments as my mouth heals and my gums shrink. I will be receiving my permanent dentures in March. Also! I receive letters updating me on how I should be doing at various stages of healing as I wait for March. Any one reading this, I want to say to you...do not be afraid of the Springfield Ohio Aspen Dental office! They have treated me wonderfully and I am very happy with the care I have received there. Lisa age 50 (and smiling pretty thanks to Dr. Mark Shue and the staff at Aspen Dental :)
Went in for my free evaluation because of a tooth giving me a problem. Ran for the door after hearing a $5, 000 estimate for treatment. All I wanted was a tooth pulled.
I say get a second opinion as I'm about to do.
I am a hygienist, not for Aspen. The product you are refering to it chlorhexidine gluconate it is not bleach. It is a medicated mouthwash that can be used at home or in the dental office as a rinse or irrigation. I prescribe this to my patients and find it a very succsessful aid in helping heal gums.
I believe the chlorhex, as they called it, is bleach. I was told it was used to kill bacteria but later found out this has not been used by other dental professions since 1950's.

poor implant work
I went to this place to get an estimate for top & bottom dentures. I was told that a bottom denture wouldn't stay in place due to a receeding gum. Sounded logical to me. They convinced me to go with an implant with a plate that would "snap" in and stay. I was thrilled to finally be able to eat again.
Although the procedure to screw the post into my gum was very unpleasant. Only to have one post come out on a Saturday morning. Try calling them on a weekend, forget it. Unless you are bleeding to death you get no return call.
Finally get the plate in and it is tight ans stayed that way for maybe 6 mos. Then it started to lift up and flop around while eating.
Long story short: this went on for 2 years with them replacing the "o" ring in side the plate. Every time it was replaced the hole was made bigger. After exhusting all the options with the "o" rings, I was recently told there was nothing more they could do.
So after $7, 000. for work that I could have gotten a regular plate and have it do the same thing.
Went to another dentist that a family member uses and for another 1, 200 he could fix Aspen Dental shoddy work. One of the posts was to large and slanted . I would like to take a sign and stand outside the office warning people that they are rippoffs.
If there is class action suit, I'd like to join. Lets make these people pay back all the money they charged for incompetant work they perform.

I too was not given The best service at Aspen Dental. First, They never gave me a proper profession Evaluation, They set up a price and plan over the phone. I had no teeth in my mouth at all, they were already pulled. When I went in, The dentures were not the ones I wanted they were the Cold Pour Classic Dentures. I wanted the Premium heat-Injected Dentures the Natural-Lytes, So I had to go back into the office and have her set up a new plan. My lower lower dentures constantly come off. I was asked by friends at my work, Did they do a Bite test? What's a Bite Test? They never told me, I didn't know that they were supposed to do a Paper Bite test.
My Friends at my work, then asked me did they do a Soft Reline? I said, What's a soft reline? Whose responsibility is it to inform Patients of all these procedures?
To top it off, The ADA ( American Dental Association ) Here in Arizona really doesn't want to be or get involved. They tell you you have to go get a second opinion and then you can file a Complaint.
In Las Vegas Nevada the ADA has a panel of Dental Professionals who when you go to see them, Two or three will come in and examine your teeth.
It Seems to me that the dentists today make more money then the Doctors or Surgeons.
All of this Malpractice by So called dental Professionals is because there is no Accountability for them. We let them get away with it.
This as far as I'm concerned is what is construed to be White Collar Crime. Legal Criminals.

wrong teeth almost extracted
I was scheduled to have two extractions done on Monday June 17th. I arrived scared out my mind only to find that the Administrator
(Shannon) had entered the wrong tooth numbers in the computer (should have been #8 and #7, not #8 and #9) When the assistant cornered the Administrator about the mistake her response was that it was the doctors fault which was not the truth. I personally stood next to the Doctor when he wrote teeth #8 and #7 needed to be extracted not #8 and #9. They even had my "flipper all ready with the WRONG TEETH! For this service I was totally over charged...but the real funny thing is they keep calling me to schedule my Deep Schalling. Are they serious? Do not deal with these people. They are mean and inconsiderate to say the least!

horrible experience
I went to Aspen Dental for a initial appt today Oh What a mistake this has turned out to be. I have a temporary filling done by a dentist over a yr ago that I want a permant filling placed in the tooth now the dentist adamantly refused to put a permanent filling in it he is trying to push root canals and crowns of which I can not afford I truly believe that he is not looking out for the best interest of the patient and is only looking at the dollar signs I will absolutly never go back there again and I will file a complaint with my insurance company over this situation
Do you know that Aspen dental is a member of the Better Business Bureau and will remain so unless people file complaints?

I received 2 reminder calls for my initial appointment and went into office as scheduled. Had full set of x-rays and dentist said I needed a crown and my 6 month cleaning. They were to call the next day after checking with my insurance and coming up with a cost estimate. They didn't call, didn't return my 3 phone calls over the next week and the email I sent to corporate. I had 2 insurance policies so there shouldn't have been a problem. Poorest customer service I have ever seen!

This letter is in regards to my recent visit at Aspen dental, McKinley Parkway Blasdell, N.Y. 14219. At my first visit to aspen dental I had made the appointment for a routine cleaning. When I arrived I was asked to fill out paperwork and have a seat and wait to be called. I waited at least 15 minutes to be called. I was finally called; they took me in back to get x-rays. They had to have taken 25 x-rays which I though would be good considering that I hadn’t been to the dentist in a while. After my x-rays were taken, I was told to have a seat in the waiting room again and they would call me back to see the dentist. Once again it had to have at least been 15 minutes before they called me back. I went back to have a seat in the dental chair, the dentist came in and informed of what she thought I should have done. I was unsure about the healthiness of my teeth and wasn’t sure if I would need dentures. She rudely told me that dentures were out of the question. My teeth were too healthy for that. As I was waiting for the dentist I looked around and saw the filth around me, there was a film of something on the floor in all the corners and there were crumbs and all kinds of nastiness all around the chair I was sitting in. I could have done without the rudeness. After that I was swept away to the office managers office where I had to discuss payment options and pricing with him. He informed me of what the cost of what I needed done. The prices were way too high compared to any charges that I saw on in the booklet that I was given by our Gaurdian rep so I questioned him. He told me the prices were correct and that would be what I would have to pay if I wanted the work done. I left the office at least 2 hours later and had no cleaning done. The first visit is a consultation; I had to reschedule an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. I was very upset when I left. The office manager made me feel like I was poor and had no means to pay for the work I needed. I was also disgusted by the overall cleanliness of the place. It was very poor. I decided I would not go back there. After I got home and thought about it I decided to call Gaurdian and ask if the charges were correct. When I spoke with the rep, we soon found out that the prices were not correct and I faxed over a copy of my estimate. I didn’t hear anything for a long time, at least a month or maybe 2. I then received a letter stating that they needed more info. I was so aggravated by then I did nothing and figured I would pay full price somewhere else just to have piece of mind.
Then at the end of January my partial broke and I needed a new one asap as the break was in the front and could be seen when I smiled. I called all around before I actually called Aspen because of the poor service I received the first time I was there. However, they were the only ones in the area that could fix my partial while I waited so I decided I would give them another chance. Well, I was wrong. When I got there it was the same thing, had to fill out paperwork, then wait to be called. Waited around 15 minutes before I was called, the girl wanted to take more x-rays. I had just had 25 taken at the end of October, so I declined. She then took me to the dental chair and took my partial. She came back after a short while and informed me the partial could be temporarily fixed but I would have to order a new one. I thought that might be the case because my old one was very old. So I had to talk with the office manager again. But before I talked to him I had to have another seat in the waiting room to be called. He came and got me probably 15 minutes later. He informed me of the pricing again and I told him that I called the ins. Co the last time and that he may have put in the wrong codes because the price quotes were too high. He got very nasty at that point and stated that the prices were correct and that was what I would have to pay if I wanted them to fix my mouth. I then asked him if he could call the ins co. to straiten out this misunderstanding in which he said yes. But he wasn’t going to call, he would have the receptionist call. Well, he left the room for maybe 2 minutes, came back in and said that she had called and the prices were confirmed. They were correct. I had no other choice but to order my new partial and spend well over $800.00 by the time he was finished. The partial was $756.00 and then I had to add a cleaning and fluoride treatment, by the time he was finished, the total bill was almost $900.00. So then came the point where I had to have my old partial fixed so I had something to wear in between. He was going to charge me $100.00 for that. I declined and said I would wear it like it was until my new one was finished. He then said he could do me a favor and only charge me $29.00 since I ordered my new one. I agreed and they took it away to fix it. Then after that came the discussion about payment. He said I needed to pay for ½ at that time. I said I didn’t have that much money with me at that time and I wanted to pay cash, I didn’t want to charge it. He then tried to get me signed up for care credit and some other form of credit. I declined. I wanted to pay cash. So then he really made me feel poor, like I didn’t have any money and I couldn’t pay the bill. But after a while he agreed that I could bring the deposit back in with me when I had my teeth cleaning at my next visit. Then after that I had to have a seat in the waiting room and wait again. They finally came back out and got me and took me to the dentist chair again. They had to take impressions for my new partial. I waited there forever before they came in. As I was waiting I started to look around and again the dirt, film in the corners, I looked up a little farther towards the top of the molding and there was a splatter mark that looked an awful lot like a blood splatter. Then I looked around more and discovered a huge blood splatter have way up the wall in front of me. I was disgusted. I wanted to leave on the spot but I needed by impression for my new partial so I stayed. They took the impressions and then finally I was finished. They took me out to the reception desk where my next appointment was to be made. I asked then if all appointments take as long as the last two did and she said no, it took so long this time because I had the old partial fixed. (That only took 45 minutes) My appointment was at 3:30pm and I didn’t leave there until 6:05pm. Way too long if you ask me for an appointment to last.
I was so disgusted at the cleanliness of this place that I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Not to mention the way I was treated. That office manager has no bedside manner and should not be in the position he is in. He should want to help their clients not make them feel the way they made me feel. The Dr. that I saw that day was very nice and so was the nurse assistant.
This was on Wednesday. I waited until Monday and by then I had gotten a chance to read up on Aspen and I was horrified at some of the stories that are out there. I called immediately and cancelled my partial and my next appointment. I will never go back there or to any other Aspen Dental location. I am not the only one at my work that has had bad experiences with them and just not that office. There are worse Aspen’s out there.
Aspen should be fined or closed. For such a big company, they have no customer service all the way around.
Stephanie,
I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Which office did you visit? Also, I am going to pass this on and make sure someone does follow up with you.

My first visit to Aspen Dental in Rochester NH was for ex-rays of 6 teeth which for new patience is free. Then a cleaning of 6 teeth which took the girl 10 min. That cost me 126.00. Next visit was to replace a cap that had come loose and was lost. He said he had to drill around my tooth for some reason so he gets out the drill. I asked him if this was going to hurt. He said, "oh I forgot the Novocain". Nice huh, good thing I spoke up. My next visit they were going to put on the new cap (this was at 12:15 pm) and then take a mold of my mouth for a bottom partial plate and take my top denture also for a mold. This is didn't understand anyway. If I am getting a new plate why do they need my old ones that do not fit right. As it turned out they could not do the second half of the appointment (molds) because it was time for lunch and it would take over an hour and they would not be back before 3 pm. Does that mean 2 hours for lunch? Why did they give me an appointment at lunch time when they knew what was going to be done at that appointment. I could start the procedure at 3pm if I wanted but I had other errands to get done. My next appointment they will take my dentures from me and put me in the waiting room, ( so as I do not hold up the dental chair for an hour or so) This is all costing me over $3, 000. What am I going to do for an hour without my teeth.
high pressure sales person, did not listen to us, and now we have a $5700 charge on their care credit
My wife and I went to Aspen Dental to see what the available options were for dentures for both of us. After waiting for some time in the front room, we were ushered into the X-Ray room, where a full set of x-rays were done (The advertisements in the local area claim to offer 'Free' x-rays for new patients). After a very short time in the dentist's chair, the dentist recommended a full upper and a partial lower for me, and full uppers and lowers for my wife. We were immediately sent to the 'Office Manager's' office, where we were set upon by a high-pressure sales pitch, made to believe we were checking on available credit, and were told that together, our bill would be over $8000. We explained to this sales person that we did not now, and would not in the forseeable future have that kind of money to spend on dentures, and reiterated this fact numerous times to her. This apparently had no affect on her, and she kept finding other sets of dentures/treatment plans. The total by the time we left was $5700. Again, we told her we could not afford that, and we did not want to continue. The very next morning, we called the Aspen Dental office, and again cancelled any and all treatments that they had apparently set up (Even though we had not agreed to any treatment). Within a week, we received a bill from Care Credit for the $5700 that the 'Office Manager' had finally decided we needed. Now we are told we must pay the first payment, before it will be cancelled. I refuse to pay a bill we do not owe. As far as i am concerend, Aspen Dental is strictly a high-pressure sales team that is in it strictly for the most money they can get before they are shut down for their horrible business practices. I have never been more appalled by a business that is supposed to be helping people in my life. Avoid this company completely.
David, I am very sorry to hear about your and your wife's experience.
I am going to pass on your concerns to the patient satisfaction team and have someone reach out to you. If you would like to contact them directly, they can be reached at [protected] or patientservices@aspendent.com

let my infection go on
I had been going to Aspen Dental for a while, complaining about a toothache. They didn't even look at the tooth that hurt and instead told me I needed a root canal on a different tooth. Then, they said that I would have to get my root canal before they would do anything else to my teeth. So, I left and didn't get a root canal right away because I won't have insurance until July. My other tooth started hurting more and more and got an infection. My gum swelled up. So, I called first thing in the morning to tell them about it. They said they would talk to the doctor and he would probably write me a prescription. He never called back. I called 4 times during the day and they were annoyed that I was calling, but my cheek was starting to swell also and I was crying and crying from the pain. Finally, I drove there and asked them what was going on. They told me that the receptionist had already gone home for the day; they took one look at me and finally took me serious. It seems like you have to force them to do anything!

you got free exam without a single penny ..still complaining
Brenda, maybe ones where you live at have in house financing but the ones I have gone to do not offer any type of financing and expect payment at the time of service. I have dental insurance and one office called the wrong number, called the health insurance part of the company, and was told I had no insurance. I got a call from the office where they demanded I come down there that afternoon and settle the bill. I told the lady I would call the insurance co and she said that I need to come down there that afternoon and pay it anyway until I 'worked' it out with my insurance co.
Every office I have been to expects payment at the time of services. Some have even made you pay your portion of the insurance before you even see the dentist.
If you don't have dental insurance nor have money to pay for it, it may be the only option. Root canals are mighty pricey.
The first thing you should have done when the dentist told you he wouldn't do anything about the tooth that actually hurt until you got a root canal was to leave and make an appointment with another dentist. BTW, if the pain in question was referred pain coming from the tooth that needed the root canal and you could not afford the root canal, the dentist could have offered to pull the tooth.
