fraud
Care.com is under investigation by the federal trade commission for a very long, dirty laundry list of fraud, scams and corruption. Multiple class actions suits are at their doors. Stocks are plummeting and investors are running for the hills. Sheila marcelo's future just might be back in the good old phillipeans. Hope she gets what coming to her.
Fraudulently misrepresented company
Care.com is a fraudulent misrepresented company that uses unsupported background checks for caregivers that are wrong incomplete and not even verified at all at times. The backgrounds are completed with a dl# punched in the computer by the caregiver from her home. No real id is ever seen from anyone. Anyone can punch in anyones dl# and produce a clean record. Care.com uses unethical business tactics in everything they do. They are ripping off the american public with the bait and switch marketing tactics and then when anyone should could complain about anything caregiver or parent the account is closed down by care.com. Most often the serious complaints are about negligence, abuse and theft from parents who are shut down that day without warning or explanation or even a refund. They are horrible, dangerous company. Please if you love your children at all don't leave them alone with a unverified.com babysitter. Care.com is worse than craigslist because craigslist does not try to look like a verified site for caregivers and doesn't hide behind a mile long disclosure about how they are not responsible for anything even if your kids die. They are a.com platform but at least parents are aware of the dangers. Craiglist doesn't advertise with a million commercials making it look safe and all legit. Care.com is a scam a very big scam.
the people I worked for
I just wanted to let care.com know I was just fired from a babysitting job for redic reasons! April k. On Feb 21 posted a need for a babysitter. I worked there 3 weeks. On the 4th week one of her kids scratched and damaged my car. I simply asked them if they could do something about it due to the fact that our insurance deductible is 500$. That's all I said. I texted them pics of the damage becuz when I told him on the day it happened he didn't bother to even look at it.he called two days later and said that you can't hold a minor responsible and he was "advised" to not do anything about it and also release me from the JOB . UNBELIEVABLE! To avoid responsibilty, and even trying to pay anything, they fired me! You need to know in case this happens to someone else and if they continue to be on this site! There should be a warning on their job posting. Thank you for your time. Sue Ramirez
You will find that many parents have less morals than babysitters. They go out of their way to take no responsibilty for their childrens actions and will deflect anything a sitter says to make it her fault or her responsibilty. Most often it is the parents that dont parent at all and put the house and their job before their kids. They do not love the kids and dont give a hoot about the caregiver either. They had kids because that is what married people do not because they wanted them. Not taking resposibilty for anything is a way of life for these type of parents. The kids will grow up and have no feeling for their parents and wont be visiting when the parents get old. You have to show love and respect to earn it and to have loving and respectful kids you must show them love and respect and not be a selfish human being.
immature workers listed
I had five people respond to my ad for pet walking. I interview them and hired Amanda's critter sitting. I asked ahead of time about her transportation, if it was too far to travel, if she was sure she wanted job for pay. She agreed. Then she handed me contract to sign that said if she got hurt while walking my dog I was 100% liable. LAWSUIT is the first thing I thought. I would not sign. Then she was suppose to bring dog shampoo and poop bags... She forgot. My husband went to store. She made me wait four hours for her interview past when she was suppose to arrive. Then after totally setting her up with access to my house, after one week she wanted a 50% increase in pay. Very immature, unprepared 19 year old that should not be working.
Warning unsafe
Care.com is a unethical company that misrepresents themselves as a verified safe community when it could not be further than the truth. I ordered a background check it came back clear. The lady had been in the Baltimore detention center for 2 years and only out 3 weeks at the interview. I am thankful I did my own investigation and this lady was never around my children. I put in a report as suggested my Care.com in the disclosure and and as expected they closed my account via auto generated response. Better to eliminate the problem like it never happened just like any reckless, negligent, criminal company would. Dont be foolish and stay away.
care.com promotes abuse
Care.com Promotes Abuse: My wife, Barb, is an incredibly gifted nanny as can be attested by the parents of local Swedesboro & Mullica Hill NJ children who literally hold her legs to prevent her from going home home each evening. She learned compassion and patience early on through our permanently disabled son - crippled by Cerebral Palsy at birth. The many hours she spent cultivating child education proved fruitful through three siblings that garnered top educational honors (one is in his 3rd year at MIT, another at St Joes, and the youngest recently accepted into top engineering colleges around the country).
In the beginning of 2014, Barb worked for a Mullica Hill mother who was so abusive to Barb and all who serviced her home (e.g. home builder, landscape contractor, electrical contractor, painter, etc.) that Barb would come home in tears almost daily under her employ. After a couple months, Barb could no longer tolerate her abuse and gave her notice. That woman was so vindictive that she trashed Barb's reputation on care.com and with no chance to defend against allegations, Barb's work profile was immediately terminated from that major job resource without a venue to defend herself. Barb never quit a job in her life and that work ethic, aside from the baby's well-being, drove Barb's attempts to modify the behavior of a narcissistic mother who could prove a challenge to Freud himself were he alive today.
In conclusion, care.com maintains a pay-to-play subscription model that indirectly allows unethical individuals such as this Mullica Hill woman/employer to conjure 'God knows what' to destroy the reputation of hard working individuals who, I might add, are not provided a process to defend themselves (e.g. employers who pay the subscription fees are given unbridled autonomy to destroy the livelihood of whomever they please).
We remain hopeful that an astute law firm will take up this cause to force care.com to amend their one-sided termination policy. At the very least, and without mentioning names, care.com should do a quick search on Mullica Hill mother-employers who have drawn an inordinate number of complaints. Guaranteed that one name will stand out amongst all others and that her profile will warrant further investigation. Subsequently, the nanny profiles that this deranged individual has so callously destroyed should be immediately reinstated.
I welcome comments from the nannies who have been displaced by the above Mullica Hill mother/employer. The mere fact that I need not mention her name should reassure those affected that together, we can legally put a stop to her unscrupulous behavior. In the mean time, let's hope care.com fixes the gaping hole in their business model.
cancelled membership
This website is ridiculous. I have used them to find a housecleaner and was planning on finding a nanny for my son. But one day I was abruptly kicked out of the membership after I had some problem with the housecleaner and told her that I was going to post a review of her on the website. When I contacted them they gave the same generic reply saying that they have the right to cancel membership for any or no reason and they would not tell me why. This made me more upset as I wasn't given a clear and definite answer. Sure anyone can say that they have a right to kick you out and tell me that they don't have to tell you why-legally. But that is plain nonsense. You have an obligation to act fairly and explain for your actions when it affects an individual where the issues are so close to heart. This website is a crook in the realm of people's feelings, they should go to jail in the moral world. Just say the reasons [censored]! And let the whole world know the reasons for your actions that affect people's feelings and care for their precious children! This is the world of the internet and free speech!
unethical and illegal practices
Care.com employs unethical and illegal business practices. They use a "Bait and switch" marketing model, advertising a one-month Premium Membership that they then use to continue to bill your credit card without your knowledge. Their customer service is defensive, condescending and inconsistent - not surprising given their dirty business practices.
shut down again
Care.com has yet again shut me down for no reason..At least a supervisor emailed me and it was not auto generated this time. The gave a long winded no reason. I have generated 1000s of dollars for this company over the years in premium memberships, preferred plus background checks, and getting parents and caregivers to sign through networking sites that I use..I had over 1600 parents on my contact list and over 5000 views on my page, 21-5 star reviews and professional references. So why was I shut down? I was shut down because Care.com does not want anyone to do well on this site. They do not want you making money and standing out from the pack. They assume you are doing something wrong if you are a success..They want all paying customers to sit quietly in the corner and have no opinion while they rape your credit card with their predatory billing practices. I am much smarter than the clowns at the so called customer service care call center..Its a joke and laughable.
I have been investigating this company slowly now for years. This is an unsafe kids for kids. Money is all this company cares about as long as they are the ones making the money and not the caregivers..its crazy. 2 American families have come home to dead babies and both their accounts were shut down with no refund or explanation, just an automated response the the emails. Predatory auto renew biilling off of parents makes up 90% of the money Care.com makes..
I wanted to let everyone know that Care.com does not monitor the site for anything other than foul language, personal email addresses and promoting other companys. They could not care less if a profile is fake or if a scam, pedo or illegal activity is going on. Its up to the customers to report this activity. Caregivers dont need a valid id or anything to get a profile up and running..Put in any info with any phone and your up and running..Even running a background check is not cross referenced..the caregiver can use any ones id she wants. No one verifies the pic or cross references anything. The caregivers references are verified by Care.com..However the caregiver can just answer and secondary phone as a parent and verify it her self..and send out a fake email and just email back as a parent..so it really useless information. The whole system is fake..Parents are led to believe this a safe sit for children when is clearly not.
misrepresentation of qualified child caregivers
Unfortunately, my husband and I have no local family and have had to rely on Care.com to provide us with caregivers since our son was born in 2010. They represent local caregivers as qualified, reliable, and trust worthy. Little did we know, that all of the caregivers are completely self-qualified. There is no personal interviewing or qualifying processes provided by care.com. The members don't have to do anything except provide membership fees to care.com to be represented by the company. Yet these individuals are being invited into peoples homes and being trusted with their most prized possessions, their children.
In the 4 yrs that we have been customers of Care.com we have come into contact with 25-30 girls. From ages 18 to 40, they are all exactly the same. They lie about their qualifications and experience. They'll claim to be CPR certified but when asked to provide proof of this 9 out of 10 can't provide it. They'll claim to have years of experience but can't complete the simplest of child care tasks. I addition to this, every single caregiver that we employed through Care.com ended up to be unreliable, putting our jobs in jeapordy when they didn't show up or called off at the last minute.
It's unfortunate that we kept trying to find a decent caregiver, thinking that we just needed to keep looking & eventually we would find the right person. To our dismay, instead we just kept exposing our innocent child to bad people. We have come to the conclusion that Care.com is the largest collection of losers that can't find other jobs.
Recently we had the worst experience of all. We had money stolen from us & our son physically abused (marks found on his buttocks). At this point we decided: NO MORE CARE.COM. When we communicated our concerns with the company, instead of a sincere apology and a refund for 4 yrs of misrepresenting individuals who were unreliable, untrustworthy, unqualified, & possibly even pedophiles, they terminated our membership.
We felt we needed to warn others of the dangers of using CARE.COM.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Just found this...Although there are some qualified caregivers on Care.com the risk is not worth the reward. After talking with many parents on several boards and mom groups the percentage is only 10% or sometimes even 1 in 12 caregivers work out after being hired. So overall its not worth the headache using this site. The lack of prescreening by Care.com makes this a dangerous place to find childcare.
I am a certified caregiver/registered nursing assistant in the state of Washington. I am on Care.com. I have all my certifications, I have previous referalls from COMPANIES I have worked for, for over 15 years and clients I have privately worked for. I bring my resume with copies of my certifications to interviews. It is the consumers responsibility to look into who you hire.I have a background check on my page. I have hours upon hours of certifications and classes and every year as required by the state I accrue more. Not all caregivers are bad, sorry you had issues with the people you hired.I just don't need people like you generalizing ALL caregivers on Care.com this way. I am not a thief, I am never late, I am reliable, I am kind, I am educated, I do have my certifications, I am not abusive, I can pass a background check, a fingerprint check, a criminal history check, I have never been to jail, I have never been arrested, I don't do drugs, I don't lie, I don't steel. I am a hard working person who chose this as my profession because I genuinely care about people.
I have changed my opinion about this company. This is not a good place to hire a caregiver, not a good place to work as a caregiver..This is the Mcdonalds of childcare steer clear if you want your kids to be safe.
I have been a caregiver for over 2 years on Care.com..Your entitled to your opinion. However many caregivers on the site are ex school teachers ex nurses and were professionals at one time and have BY CHOICE decided to get into caregiving as an alternate way of making a living. For most it is beacuse the job they were doing was stressful or odd hours and they now themselves have kids and need more flexibility to be able to pick and choose when they want to work or have no family around like many military, Airline workers that realize after a short while the babysitter is making more many than they are and flip over to childcare. If you choose college students your are going to get a short tem commitment with a high risk of no show..If you choose a middle aged womwn and dont verify her back ground check and she cant provide references from a previous decent job in the past then you get what you deserve. A loser.
unprofessional and un-careing
Completely unprofessional, un caring, and impossible to reach. They respond only here with a cold, impersonal, automated response. Its the same for every different case i've read here. I think it would be better business if they allowef and encouraged feedback, and showed concern for each individual case. I've been a member on care.com under two...

The web sight care.com has a scammer that is using the boy in a wheelchair scam. She went under the name Jessica, then she went under the name Kelsey Brown. I would not doubt many other aliases . But she is making the mistake of sending the very same message, she is moving to your state, has went through a tragic situation, lost her husband and baby on his birthday. Now she has a boy that will need help. She is sending me the money, or fake check that I am to put into my bank, it will bounce, and the next note is her need for money, or for me to buy something up front, because the check did not arrive or something. She actually sent me the very same letter, under two aliases, Jessica, which she said I was hired for her nanny, AND Kelsey Brown, same message. Here I am just trying to be caring and get a nice job, as a nanny and she is a crook .

The same thing just happened to me! She went under the name Melissa Parkinson. She used the exact same story stated above by all of you! @Sharon what did you do when they check bounced and have you continued to be emailed?
Omgosh! I was just contacted by the same person. She used a different name, but the exact situation you mentioned. Moving to my state, lost her husband in an accident and said she is hard of hearing and can't talk on the phone but wants me to send her my address with my apt building etc. Care.com is great but needs to put a stop to these scams.
I've come across her as well she would send me the funds up front to purchase a wheelchair for her son. That she would need me 2 weekends. I took off of work and then no call no show. I have experienced this 3 times from this site. They send a personal text. Now that I know I'm not the only one that's not good.
deceptive auto-renew
Their signup process is intentionally deceptive. They suggest you are purchasing a month of service when it's actually recurring. We should have picked up on this sooner but 18 months later we realized we had paid $595 above the $35 we signed up for. I've attached a screen shot of a signup process I went through today to see how it looks as of now. Note at the top, you choose '$39 1-Month' suggesting you are buying 1 month of service. At the bottom, the order summary shows '1-Month Membership $39'. It's the small print that suggests it auto-renews. I see some people are considering a class action lawsuit against care.com. If anyone is up for starting a class action, I'd participate in whatever way I could to help stop the predatory practice. California passed a law in 2010 to protect consumers from this type of fraud: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=bpc&group=17001-18000&file=17600-17606.

I had the same issue, how did you get your money back? I can't find phone # or email to contact with them
This just happened to me as well! They know exactly what they are doing. I cannot believe I did not see this for the last four months. I want my money back!
is it real or not
I have been on care.com for close to a year and I got my first check today, it is quite a bit of money. I have seen the emails and reports of care.com, it's like really hard to tell; you try to not let your financial difficulty cloud your judgement. I have contacted kfor news about the two people, I was just want to see if they are legit that's all. I love kids and I don't want anyone taking advantage of that, so I will investigate further; kfor news said it was a fraud but they don't know bout care.com being a fraud just some people
unauthorized auto billing
I signed up for one month of care.com as I knew I would not need their services after a month for finding a petsitter. I found out on my credit card statement, late(as I was not getting my mail delivered to my temporary location) that I was being charged for 3 months at $39.00/month. I filed a complaint with the credit card company but per previous writers, I probably will lose. Do not use care.com due to unauthorized auto billing practices.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I was also auto-billed. I am very upset because I thought I was signing up for the 1-month membership at $39 but have been billed for the past 6 months at the 1-month rate. The 6-month and 12-year membership rates were lower. This seems bordering on illegal and is very deceptive.
bait 'n' switch / products advertised not available
I posted this previously under 'other' and it doesn't appear to be there, so perhaps I was in the wrong category.
I had the need for a petsitter. I posted it on this site, and someone
responded. We had a nice ongoing email and phone conversations and I will use
her. My complaint is not about her in the least. My complaint is with Care.com.
I noticed that if I were a premium member, then I could get background
checks. While I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself, since I"m busy I
thought I'd just get it through the site and joined as premium member. I
immediately looked at the site and found that the 'background' check wasn't
available and that any background check would require an additional $79 +++. I
realized I'd been 'had' by the site and their lame 'benefits'. (I have screen shots of all of this). Within 10
minutes of my buying the premium membership, I emailed telling them to void the
charge and explaining why. They didn't have a phone number listed.
I received a canned message that essentially said "We'll get around to it
shortly" . 12 hours later I get another canned response, stating that I'd used
the site and that there would be no refund. Well, DUH, I had to use the site to
try to find out about them and to find that what they offered wasn't' really
there. Then they said that I'd communicated with the woman who is doing the
pet sitting. Well, again, DUH, I communicated with her PRIOR to this membership
scam of theirs.
One of their canned emails said they could give 'no further' refunds, when
in fact, they have given NO refund. It also stated I'd contacted several of
their providers, which is not true.
I've disputed with AMX, took screen shots of their site, and have the
emails they sent. I know there will be no problem, but these people are truly
crooks.
I feel they're scamming their providers as well as the end users of their
services. What is most amazing is that these crooks post syrupy responses here
and elsewhere, but do you ever see them offering to make it right? Do you ever
hear of a refund for their unsavory practices. Nope! As another poster
stated, in the search engine window, type care.com fraud. Lots to see!
Never buy their 'services' since you get nothing extra except a massive
headache.

I'eve disputed with AMX, took screen shots of their site, and have the emails they sent. I know there will be no problem with AMX but I hoped to warn others. I usually type in a company name with 'complaint, fraud or scam' and I didn't on this one. That's my fault and lesson learned.

dishonest business practices
Do not use care.com they have a disgraceful way of making money which is to trick members into paying for a service they do not want or need by automatically renewing subscriptions. On top of this they have a VERY strict refund policy which screws hard working people out of their money. They have no sympathy for their members they even have bogus procedure...

I never bought from the company www.CCI-Care.com. Two weeks ago I noticed unauthorized charges from my account. I was shocked and didn’t know what to do. I sent several emails to this company, but no one replied. I waited couple of days and noticed that they again charged me for $67.99. WTF? I wonder if there are people, who had the same thing. Maybe you can advise me how to stop these withdrawals. Please post your ideas and comments. Thanks.
the company is total rip off and fake
I ordered Garcinia Cambogia from the company www.nutra-care.com. I paid them money, but later I got the invoice and it turned out that the company had another name and it was scam. I haven’t received any info, no delivery. I searched for their contact info, but again nothing. WTF? They are liars and scammers, and I want to find other deceived customers, who lost money. Please we need to stop this company and return our money. Post your comments.
