To whom this may concern which I hope the CEO of Dollar General read this plus the upper managerment in HR and Payroll---my name is Carolyn Kime and I was dimissed/terminated or fired how ever you want to call it on March 19, 2010 and my employee ID # was 901605. In the meeting with the DM-Joel---he assured me that I would get my 80 hours vacation that I had earn from the company and that he would submit the paper work in---now here is what I'm very disappointed with Dollar General---if you are going to terminated a person from your company--you should tell the person that their vacation time that they worked hard for will not be paid to them which I think that is so wrong for a company to do. I earned that time--I worked very hard for that time and I never quit Dollar General--they quit on me. Dollar General was my home for 3 years while I started out as a cashier and in 3months was 3rd key and 18 months later was ASM. I enjoyed my job and everything that was asked of me plus more.
I always thought Dollar General cared for their employees--not the ones that stole from them or the ones that was dishonest with the company which I'm not either one but I guess I was wrong even now with these tough times. I was really counting on my vacation pay till I can get another job. I did make an error but I thought Dollar General would had put me somewhere else with the company like on the truck teams or store set ups--to me that won't had matter at least I would had stayed with the company. In the hand book I never came across the policy when you terminateda SM or ASM that they would not get paid for their vacation time they had---my question is where was it stated on this affect?
I hope someone can clear all this up for me cause I sure could use that money right now--my phone number is [protected].
You all might what to think about telling new DM's not to assure any SM and ASM when they terminate them from your company that they will recieve their vacation time that they had with your company. This whole mess caused me alot of grief and depression and I really don't think you as a company really know what harm this cause to me or other past employees on this matter.
Again, hope to get some honest answer from some one
Carolyn KIme

I have to agree with you on all the above things with dollar general. I also was let go from the company on January 8th 2010. My D.M. came into the store on the 8th of Jan., to do a store visit, he tod me to go in the office, and was acting as nice as could be, even complimented on nice the store was looking. Mind you I have been with the company for 91/2 years.while in the office he came about and said I was terminated from the company, for discriminating against a pregnant woman, which never did happen, I had my gas mileage report for him and also asked about my 2 weeks vacation that was also do me, I had earned it as well, He told me he would see what he could do.Iv'e always done a great job for them and never had any complaints, always did what I was told to do. The company seems to be going down hill, since they became public. And try calling the resolution department is a joke, thay are rude and never let you get a word in edgewise. I worked as store manager in the Middlefield store 8232. Now They hired a man from out of nowhere and the store is looking sloppy, and he's very rude to all my great customers. I also was a store manager in Port Huron, Mi., worked there 8 yrs day and night. DM came in and fired me because they didn't like who I was dating. Said if I quit dating him they would consider letting me keep my job. This day I was working 4 hrs in the mourning by myself as most do at a DG. I had gotten a bottle of water to take an aspirin for a severe headache, set the bottle on my desk to pay for when the cashier came in. He accused me of stealing it. then I found out that they tagged my back ground check as me being a thief of $1.00 I lost 3 weeks of vacation pay and a bonus check I had coming over a bottle of water, its sad that that's the best they could do after 8 yrs. I lost my job and about $2500.00 and no one cares what they do because Mich is a fire at will state, so they know they can get away with it. Resolution Debt. yep they are rude and will do nothing, they could do away with that Dept. and save money. Its pointless. Then they would wish they actually helped someone.

I also worked for doller general in louisiana. District 481. I was a ASM then assigned to a store as manager . I had inventory within 3 weeks of going to this store. The day before inventory fired they fired every key holder i had and my cashiers for sliding under the old manager. They never promoted me kept me on ASM wage. Left me with a girl a hired a few days prior and 2 stockers. Needless to saqy i lived there open to close. I had gotten enough of after 2 months not promoting me and turned in my keys. I was owed a milage check i have yet to see. Mind u in this same district within the same week i quit so did 3 other managers due to the rude dm. He was one fired everyone at my store told me would gt me some help in there saw noone. Corporate needs to do something about these unjust dms.

I was a Store Manager for dollar general, District 54 and was just terminated by the regional manager. They came in on a Tuesday and he said that he wanted to ask me some questions... Have I ever exposed myself to another former/current employee.. I said no never, he said that an investigation was ongoing and the he was going to supend me until it was over. Less than 2 days he calls and terminates me, but never once did he talk to my employees...

i didnt get fired from dollar general i gave a two weeks notice being told my my SM that i would get all of my 80 hrs of vaction and when i left i only had 37 hrs left but i asked and stopped by on my days off and kept being told i would get it. i didnt like the company anymore because the SM was sleepin with a cashier and everybody knew and wouldnt do anything about it. i just checked and the rest of my vaction wasnt submitted. and yet like one of yall i never found it anywhere stating that i wasnt intitled to it and when i asked they pulled out their huge SOP book and never could find it. the store number is 04931 in virginia. i think it is so wrong that they do this to employees and that nothing is done about cashiers sleeping with management.

I m currently employed with them as a SM. I have worked for them almost 6 years now. I have
Known all this time that if you quit or get terminated that you lose all vacation time. I mean
Really they give it to you for being there. Its a use it or lose situation. Guess what if you get terminated you will not USE it so you obviously you LOSE it! And yes if you were "grazing" then you should be terminated. Its not yours until you purchase it.

I have so many things to say about Dollar General. This company is set up for people to fail. The rules are ridiculous and unfair and DG couldn't care less. I lost my Lost my vaca pay and my job because my boyfriend went thru my line and bought a soda! Even tho the ccamera saw him pay for it, its still considered stealing. Also, getting write up's because of voids, wow, are you kidding me? I told a lot of my customers what DG was doing to us and no one could believe it. The checking of the bags at the end of each shift, they treat us like criminals!

I worked for doller general in [protected] didn't get my raises. So I quit now I'm due for my 3 mounth raise and I have not got one yet, and I'm told If i have a problem with this I will be let go. I was supposed to get my raise on 11/16/2014. The only reason I started back at doller general was they gave me the raises that was owed to me and promised it wouldn't do that to me agen.I enjoy working for this company and have visited other stores in others states and they are not ran like this store 06440. They have cleaner floors and the tiles arent coming off the floors. I would like to see the store get better.employee # [protected]. Thank u have a good day.

"D.(1) For purposes of this Section, vacation pay will be considered an amount then due only if, in accordance with the stated vacation policy of the person employing such laborer or other employee, both of the following apply:

(a) The laborer or other employee is deemed eligible for and has accrued the right to take vacation time with pay.

(b) The laborer or other employee has not taken or been compensated for the vacation time as of the date of the discharge or resignation."

This can be confusing at times because many individuals interpret this to mean that if they have accrued the right to take vacation, they automatically have the right to be paid. Notice, however, that the statute says "in accordance with the stated vacation policy", which means that the employer determines whether vacation time is paid or unpaid.

courts have previously held that if an employer is silent on the subject of vacation time and its payment upon the termination of the employment relationship, then the employer may be required to pay the accrued vacation time. (Beard v. Summit Institute of Pulmonary Medicine, 707 So.2d 1233 (La. Sup. Ct. 1998)).

First, contact your employer and see if you can retrieve, in writing, the company policy on vacation time and its payment. Second, if the policy appears to state that vacation time is paid, then contact you previous employers Human Resource department and request payment of your vacation time. If this is refused, I suggest you contact an Employment Law Attorney.

To get your vacation pay at DG you need to take it as soon as possible they will always find a reason why you can't take it when requested especially around holidays. They have now revised the employee handbook to state "if you are terminated or self-terminate you will not receive your vacation pay". This just another way for this company to do their employees wrong. This should be illegal. Dollar General Corp. is out for themselves and only themselves be very leery of working for them.
