car rental / extra charges
Total rip off and disgusting service!
Charged our bank account for a £112 parking fine, we were never supposed to pay... Instead of contacting us and providing customer service they decided that we are entitled to pay for it, even tough we do have a permit! Waited almost 1.5 weeks for someone to reply and only say that my fine is correct...? You may also charge me for administration fees? Hahhaa really? What a hassle... Don't waist your time in here as surely i will never ever come back!
management at dca location
I was hired on 6/13/16 a a CSR. Since that time 9 employees QUIT. I'm one of the ONLY employees who legitimately makes revenue for the company and myself. On numerous occasions I have witnessed things that I know are against company policy. I said nothing but did mention in a corporate survey that I feel that my employer created a hostile work environment for me. On 11/5/16 I was scheduled to work 6-2:30 am..after 10:30 I was the ONLY HERTZ EMPLOYEE CLOCKED IN and present at the location. (No IR, dispatch, counter rep, manager, security) A lady and her husband come in the booth livid because they had been getting the run around from hertz all day and wanted a full refund and replacement vehicle. I informed her I could replace her vehicle but didn't have the authority to zero balance her contract and could give her a gift certificate. I was called stupid multiple times and told the certificate can't plug the hole in the tire or give her back her wasted day. I told her I'm not going to let her speak to me like that. Her husband tells me he's a lawyer and what am I going to do? At this point I pick u HERTZ PHONE TO CALL MY MANAGER PORCHE AND THE LADY REACHED OVER AND CLICKED THE PHONE. I put her contract back on the counter and told the to leave now before I call airport police. She took her contract and keys threw them in my face and then I called police and unfortunately argued with the customer til police arrived. They posted a video online saying I said I was closed and didn't work there. I REPEATEDLY TOLD THE CUSTOMER THEY WERE LIARS. I'm beyond amazed at how many times I called ALL MY MANAGERS AND NOBODY BUT ONE CALLED ME BACK AND THAT WASNT UNTIL AFTER POLICE WERE ALREADY THERE. This incident also happened after my first night on night shift alone two men threatened to spit in my face and management promised I wouldn't ever be left alone again. I came to work today to get suspended because the customers recorded my reaction and submitted it online. I asked my boss did he want the police report he said no he doesn't needed and didn't want to hear what happened he wanted a statement for HR. Once again cares nothing about employee safety ONLY the perception given to corporate. That location is truly the worst establishment I have ever been employed at and I'm coming from Avis there. They didn't even have the courtesy to CALL AND MAKE SURE I WAS OK. Airport police escorted the couple off the premises and sat there with me til I clocked out. Please send someone from corporate to that location immediately
cleaning fee - car rental
My name is Danielle Dahan,
I rented a car from Hertz company through Priceline site on December 29 to December 31.
Rental record number: [protected]
First of all, that charged me with 63.60 $ more then I should pay for underage charge who wasn't written on the site when I put the order.
Second, after i returned the car to gainesville location, I saw a billing inquiry of 300$ more.
I made a call to the costumer relations service of hertz and they told me that's a cleaning fee! It's unlikely to charge someone for cleaning the car, and they explained that there was smoking fee.
So even though there was no smoking prohibited sign- No one smoke inside the car! Just out of it!
The representative that I spoked with made it 150$ instead but it's still a lot of money that I cannot effort over something I didn't do!
I'm super upset with your services and i'm asking to undo it and give me my money back!
I rented cars few times within the US and it never happened to me before.
Danielle.
upgrade
We for the first and last time rented a car from Hertz at DIA and was offered an upgrade (one level) mid size for "about" the same price using the attendants words. When I received my credit card statement I noticed that I had been charged by not only the company that I booked from (Hotwire) but also had and additional huge charge from Hertz and was charged for gas as well. This "about" the same charge was an ADDITIONAL $160.00. How is that "about" the same for an upgrade from a compact to a mid size? We didn't get a luxury car, or an SUV. I did NOT ask for the upgrade, it was offered to us AND not knowing we had already been billed, signed the agreement thinking it was what we owed for the rental. We didn't even pay that amount for our airline tickets! We thought the attendant was trying to be kind so that we would rent again from Hertz. Needless to say it was our first and our last rental. We have NEVER had a problem like this before with any other rental agency. Customer Service gave us a whole 50.00 refund. Wow how generous of you! Pays for the full tank of gas we turned the car in with and then we were charged 37.27 for turning the car in full. BAD business!

2/11/16
I have ordered F level rental car in Hertz Israel for the period 16/9/16 - 5/10/16. When I came on 16/9/16 to pick up the car at Hertz office at 310 E 48 TH ST. Manhattan NYC, the local staff offer me Jetta and other lower level cars. I refused to take any car with lower level than F as per my order. I have spent 2 hours in arguing with the local staff led by unfriendly lady who called herself office manager. This lady was rude person and treated me like a criminal. Rather than receiving service and support as I used to get from Hertz other offices I have faced unprofessional and horrible attitude by this rude lady. I was really shocked from the local manager customers treatment who should not be allowed to work in customer service.

car rental bill - price gauging
As a business traveler I have been renting Hertz as a President's Club member for a few times a month and established a sense of a price point for rentals lasting 1-2 days each. Visiting my son during his college's Parents Day in Atlanta over the weekend of Oct. 21, my assistant booked the rental, as she has done the previous 50 times earlier, on Sept. 1st, and my wife and I arrived to pick up the car. After 31 hours and 99 miles of usage the bill was handed over to me was $340.05. I took a Delta flight out of Newark for $160 per person each way, so clearly this was out of whack or something must have been wrong.
I called back the billing department, I call Hertz after 25 mins in the queue. Apparently Hertz considers any billing question their lowest priority given you can connect to new rentals under 30 secs. The rep Annette (God bless her heart) lectured me that this is it. I should known the bill and should not have paid it or have negotiated at the pickup. I said that means 'we gotcha' and I have to deal with it. She had a moment of Freudian lapsus and said yes and then when she realized her mistake tried to convince me that this is actually a good price. I explained this translates to more than $3.4 per mile or $9/hr which made her pause. We know our country in general struggles with math.
I told her that I am stopping all future business with Hertz and will write this up in websites. She did not seem to care. Her motivation was to get off this call as soon as possible rather than making concessions or offering a logical explanation. SHAME ON YOU HERTZ. You lost my business and confidence in your integrity. I was put on Avis for a few times last year and I am sticking with them, Uber, or my limo drivers.
Your price is given up front when you book. Simply put, your assistant screwed up. Complain to her. And the sale price of a flight has no bearing on the cost of anything else anywhere else.
demand for extortionate amount of money out of nowhere.
I made a booking via rentalcars.com on the internet, trading as Thrifty rentals. I paid in advance for a med to large car (something comfortable) and paid all costs up front - so I thought. I knew nothing of Hertz being a trading partner.
I arrived at the Hertz counter 22:30 on Mon 24 Oct 16, only to be met with 'you must provide for us an extra £3500.00, RIGHT NOW. The staff were amazingly rude. They insisted that it was my fault for not reading T&C's saying they could charge this and keep my money previously paid. I did not get angry as other customers had, I did request the CCTV be on, they said they did not have any. I then challenged them to find proof in the T & C's, they could not, and god knows we spent time looking. I was then asked to ring the agent? no one was answering at midnight. When I refused to get angry (but was crying, alone, feeling ripped off in a strange country) it was decided that I should have a car as they had 1. tried to remove 3500 from my account, taken my money paid in advance, had no proof of T&C's requiring that I pay an extortionate rate as a deposit. Instead of the car I had ordered, I was given a little VW which I promptly named the wheelbarrow. It was shocking to drive so I got it to my hotel and there it spent most of its time.
This is gross mis-representation, I paid in good faith for a med to large car, automatic. Due to gross greed, (I was not part of Hertz how would I know who was part of what, I paid for a vehicle online and got ripped off by one of the worlds best known rental car companies)
I am NOT HAPPY at having this so called surcharge parked on me the moment I went to pick up what I had paid for. I was not happy that the people attempted to get the money out of my account instantly - oh we will put it back later LIES.
This was contract number [protected] via Rentalcars.com
Eventually, as HERTZ had NO evidence of my signing any kind of contract, I was granted a wheelbarrow. Despite having paid in advance for a med/large vehicle I was forced to pay for a tiny excuse for a car. I returned said car with full tank on the morning as required and am shutting out account. I am shocked that HERTZ is running such a scam. It is being reported throughout the travel industry and it would appear I am not alone.
The paperwork forwarded to me by email suggested I print copies, Daniel Perez and his two associates were refusing to look at that. They did however spend time trying to find the paragraph that insisted I pay them £3500.00, and failed. When they did finally agree to let me have some kind of car, it was not what I paid for and I believe a new little ‘dip’ into my account was made.
I am saddened that I must go on line and rate Hertz as filthy, low, loathesome, underhanded thieves. This is not a threat, it is my experience of the reality of dealing with HERTZ. Make no mistake I shall use a much more reputable company in future.

rental car problems
My daughter hit a deer. The insurance arranged a rental car through Hertz on Oct 3. My daughter called them and told then she needed to pick the car up on the morning of Oct 26. They had over 3 weeks notice of the date she needed the car? At 3:30 on Oct 25, she called to make sure everything was ready and they told her they had no cars available until the following week. I suspect they are lying and giving us the runaround for some reason. I called the Hertz location, not telling them who I was. I told them I wanted to rent a car starting Oct 26 for a about a week. I was told they would have cars coming back that evening around 6 or 7 pm. I then called back and tried to arrange to pickup my daughter's rental car. I was told they had nothing until the following week. I then asked if that was the case, why did they tell me the had cars coming back around 6 or 7 when I called a little while ago. The girl was very rude and just told me they use different cars for insurance purposes. I think they are lying and just don't want to give my daughter the car because she is 22 years old. I can't believe that with almost a month's notice, they couldn't have a car available on the date she needed it. This is very poor business and I would never recommend Hertz to anyone if this is how they do business.
reserved car a week before vacation...
Leaving for vacation on the 17th of October, Reserved rental a week in advance(mid size).17th comes around, drove 30 minutes to Hertz, they had no rentals for us!I was very upset and frustrated as this is the start of my vacation! Took time out to drive all the way there and back to my house to find another vehicle ...Poor business accomadations, Hertz should have taken a few minutes out of their time to call to say there was no vehicle, instead of wasting our time and gas! Was very disappointed in the company and they way things were handled!
death threat from shuttler at airport
On Sunday, October 9, 2016, my daughter was returning a car back to Enterprise. She stopped short of the entryway to find the correct way to Enterprise. Immediately a driver from Hertz started honking his horn. She gave him the go around signal and he jumped out of his car and came up to them and started yelling at them. He called my daughter a "f***ing white trash b***h" not once but several times. Hertz and Enterprise must be close in the terminal because when they proceeded to drop of their car, he came over to them again and started cursing them yet again and actually drew a crowd. Then a female employee from hertz came over and joined in the yelling. My daughter has a four year old special needs child that was extremely upset and crying. She tried to get away from these horrific hertz employees as quickly as possible. She had a plane to catch and couldn't waste time trying to deal with them. But when walking away from them, the looked back and the man made a gun sign at them. needless to say I would suggest not renting from this company in Toronto. I would use Avis or Enterprise. I have rented from both and have never had anything but exemplary service from both companies.
Stay away from Hertz!
they rented me a stolen vehicle!
Please do not rent from Hertz! They rented me a stolen vehicle. I didn't know this until one day I went out into the parking lot and the rental car wasn't there. The police were looking for me. I spoke to the police in person, told them my situation and showed them my rental agreement. It's been 3 weeks now since the police took the Hertz rental from me, and Hertz hasn't contacted me to apologize or to provide an explanation. I'm extremely frustrated and disappointed in their customer service.
Sounds like he kept the car longer than his agreement allowed and the cops confiscated it, and now he wants an apology and an explanation.
The rest of the story please?
Lost items never recovered
On August 16th whilze returning our rental car to Hertz at the aiport in Tampa Florida we left 2 medical booklets from our kids that have no commercial and no potential intereest for thieves. We filed a complaint on the 17th and and another one 2 weeks after. We had numerous call conversations and emails during the 30 days that followed the loss of our item. Despite this, Hertz said they could not locate our item. It is absolutely unacceptable for us and we will never rent a car again from this company.
car rental
The last twenty years I rented a car about fifty times nationwide.
Of all these times more or less I felt cheated four times. One of those was in Panama by Pay-less and Expedia. The other three times were by Hertz over the five times it happened to rent a car from them. The first one was on Madrid in Spain. The second one was on Paphos in Cyprus and the last one on Las Vegas in USA. After the above incidents at which I was overcharged, lied to me and humiliated me, I made the decision not to use Hertz and partners anymore. I also strongly recommend the visitors of this web site to do the same.
customer service and charges
I rented a car from Hertz for military duty. I signed up online to rent the car at the Oak Lawn, IL, location. When I arrived to get the car, the place was not even open, so I went to the Chicago Midway location and talked to Jackie, who stated that she found the reservation in the system and would help me get the rental car, so I could get to my military training. Jackie stated that I could return the car to the Oak Lawn location and she would make sure that I was not charged for returning to a different location. I returned the car per the agreement on August 20, 2016. The person (Sharon) at the desk in Oak Lawn, IL, stated that she was working alone and was not able to take me to the shop to get my car and told me to leave the rental car at the shop and they would pick it up there on Monday, August 22, 2016. The shop JJM Auto Repair [protected]), where my car was, called the Oak Lawn location on August 22, 2016, to let them know that the car was there and to see what time they would be picking it up. Sharon told them that she forgot to put down to pick up the car at that location when I was in on that Saturday and would send someone to get the car. No one showed up to the shop and they called Sharon back several times to let them know that the car was still there for pickup and Sharon told them each time that she forgot to write down that the car was there and someone would be over to pick it up. Couple weeks later I received a letter saying if I did not return the car I would be charged with auto theft. Then when I called, they said they had the car and ignore the letter. Then they charged me $650 last week for the time they said I did not return the car and when they finally went to the shop to get the car. I have made several calls and their response is that they can do nothing about it, but they could give me$50 for my time. I should not be charged for Sharon's error! I would like a refund for $650 for Sharon's error!

dishonest trading
In July whilst driving a Hertz rental car along a straight road
we were rear ended by a delivery van. The driver apologized
yet we reported in immediately to the police/Garda took plenty
of photos. Both vehicles the other drivers license, his registration
then provided all of this to Hertz back in July 2016 and were told
good job not to worry.
Now in September Hertz Ireland still have our $3, 895.70 excess
there is rarely any reply to emails and they provided no indication
how long they will hold this money

My brother-in-law, who happens to live in Ottawa, ON, texted me on Thu Aug 18, notifying me that he was sure that the HERTZ booth at YOW closed at 1:00AM. I called the HERTZ booth at YOW the afternoon of Thu Aug 18 from Victoria, BC around 2PM PST, and HERTZ assured me that they would remain open at least 1 hour after the last flight came in, providing me with HERTZ Reservation ID# 80240269614D. Sure enough, we landed, and since we had no check-ins, made our way directly to the HERTZ booth around 1:15AM and the booth was closed! There were also 2 other couples out of luck! We could not afford a luxury car from the other rental companies that were open, Enterprise and AVIS, so we had to take a taxi to our destination. When I called the YOW HERTZ the next day, I was re-routed to another main number, put on hold, and then they hung up on me.
I have made a complaint to Rentalcars.com as well. It's appalling to me how two companies can leave us in a lurch like this with no accountability.

car rental bait and switch
On 8/26/16 I made reservation's for a rental on-line, with HERTZ . I was promised a rental for $39.95 a day. I was told to pick up the rental at PDX. I had to drive for over 5 hour's, in 104 degree heat, park my personal car at a Park-n-Fly. Take a shuttle to the airport. Only to be to be refused a rental, at that price. They tried to charge em $107.00 a day, plus insurance, which they tried to sell me at $65. a day. This is called " Bait and Switch " and it is ILLEGAL ! I want $$ for my time, effort, gas money and the hassle ! Not to mention they ruined my weekend ! They gave me NO option's ! I will never rent from HERTZ again in my life, and I will tell everyone I know what they did to me. I had to turn around and drive another 5 hr.'s back home, without a rental !
I am beyond angry. Hertz rental co. is the worst. The illegally did the Bait and Switch !
overcharge on credit card for hertz rental car
Rented a car from Hertz-Ireland in June 2016 for five days through USAA car rental and was given a reservation that it would cost 215 Euros. Reservation number G8961824581. We turned in the car without damage and a full tank of fuel at Shannon airport and was given a receipt. When we received our credit card bill we were charge over one thousand dollars. After many phone calls and emails, we just received an invoice (August 24, 2016) stating that there was damage to the car. Now we are trying to find out what damage they are claiming was done to the car. How very sad that this problem occurred. I am having our car insurance look into this matter and have refused credit card payment on the over charge. On the invoice there was no email address or fax number just a mailing address. We have called Hertz in the US and they gave us an email address for Ireland but the email came back as not deliverable. We would like resolution to this problem but it getting any help from Hertz!
employees authorizing illegally car rentals
I learned that 2 cars were illegally rented in my name at Hertz Car rental in Philadelphia. The first vehicle was rented for 2 months and the second for a little under a month. These transactions ironically happened a week and a half after I rented a car to take my daughter to her senior prom. I don't understand how this happened especially when the standard protocol call required to rent a car requires that the renter provide his/her drivers license and credit card. It is clear that an employee and/or several employees at Hertz Car rental intentionally allowed a person(s) to illegally rent cars under my name. I only learned of these fraudulent acts because the car rented on 6/3/16 was not returned and the other car was ticketed for running a red-light. I am now concerned for my safety because Hertz failed to follow the appropriate procedure for ensuring that cars are rented by the correct person and my information is out there with criminals. In addition, I have to continually monitor my credit and dispute the red-light ticket that is now in my name. BEWARE! Your personal information is NOT safe with HERTZ CAR RENTAL! I am currently waiting to hear back from their investigator since last week! I need answers.. This is clearly an inside job!
It is entirely possible that you are the victim of identity theft, and instead of being on here compaining about it you should be contacting law enforcement and your banking institutions to halt your cards and check your credit reports for unusual activity.
For you to accuse employees without a shred of proof is stupid and irresponsible.
