excuses for everything and incorrect info updates
A couple of mo. ago I was offered a trial 2 mo. membership which I took on. Everything went ok (everyone is so quick to take your signiture and the R100 for the tag with is refundable). My surname and e-mail add. was spelt incorrect, so I filled out a change of informaion form. I did this as I was wanting to join so I though I would fix it now. It has never been done and I was given every excuse under the sun. It took 4 trips to get a tag - again excuses. Then my trial expried so the day of expiry I took on a Personal Trainer - also - very quick to take your money. They said that I did not have to join just yet and they will load another trial on. This was never done. I eventually put up a huge stink and was assured that it will all be sorted out. It has been 1 mo. now and still my tag is not working. I then decided to get my refund back as my tag will never be fixed only to find more excuses about not enough cash and I must come in office hours. So quick to take your money outside of OH but cant give it back outside OH. I have had enough now and having second thought about joining. If they cant even get a simple change of info right - then I don't know!
sauna room out of order for more than month
I have been trying to contact Planet fitness on numerous occasions about their Sauna that is out of oreder for more than a month now. Nobody from Planet Fitness returns my calls or respond on messages that I have left. I am paying full fees and not half and I expect to make use of all the facilities, because I pay for it. I am think of moving to Virgin Active where speed of exicution are much quicker. This is nothing more than absolutely bad service. They are very quick to persuade a person to join, but when comes to complaint handling then they have great challenges with that.
breach of contract, bad attitude, poor service
I joined feminique fairmount months before it even opened under the promise that the gym would remain open untill 9:00 pm every night. I am an extremely busy doctor and I don't get the opportunity to get to gym earlier on in the evening. Furhermore, my daughters who fall under the family contract I took out, also lead very busy schedules. Thereore, the fact that the gym was open till 9:00 appealed to all of us.However, the gym now closes at 8:00 pm.This means that we all rarely get to the gym.Had I been aware of this when our contract was taken out, I definitly would not have spent so much money taking out a contract which I do not ever get a chance to use.I sent an email to the manager on 4 Setember 2009 outlying my problem. I still have not got a response. Does this constitue profesionall behaviour? Not that there is anything very professional about the gym - There are regularly gym machines, equipment, aircons that are out of order and take several weeks to reapair.Gym classes are cancelled at short notice.Staff are unhelpful. The gym has been a huge disapointment since I joined.I expect the gym hours to be expected or my contract to be cancelled.
ripping people off their money
I first received a call from Asanda the Sales Consultant who was advertising the R59 per month gym special. I was interested and asked how can I join? I even referred Asanda to my other friends. She then informed me that I needed to come personally to the Gym in Rivonia for everything to be processed. When I came she was then telling me that the contract that I was interested in was for 3 years and not 12 months as on the telephone conversation we had prior. I didn’t want to sign anything thereafter she then said I'll need to speak to her Sales Manager Lovemore and motivate why I want the contract for 12 months only. I gave my reasons and Lovemore than said I will need to pay the R59 X 12 upfront. I didn’t have that much money and said I can’t only pay 12 the 1st month and another 12 the 2nd month. While talking to them they asked me to fill out the membership contract as every member should. I paid the R354 the 1st month as promised and the 2nd month my account was debited an amount of R269 and again R269 on the 011009. The accounts department (Vinolia) and the manager (Master) can’t even help me with the issue instead I’ve been sent from peter to post. I WANT OUT!
PLANET FITNESS IS RUNNING A MONEY SCAM ! ! !
My girlfriend and I signed up and were going to Planet for 6 months at the Glen Burnie location in Maryland. The place is in ok shape but could be kept cleaner and needs some maintenance on the machines. There were at least 6 machines out of order for two months. Not sure if they were waiting for parts.
Problem is,
Our relationship ended and I did not want to keep bumping into my ex-gf so I went in to the Planet counter person and told him I wanted to cancel my membership. He was busy on the phone. I told him I could wait until he was finished. He handed me a pen and paper then told me to put my name, address and phone number down. I did this and he said he would take care of it.
Three months went by and the bills kept coming. I thought it just took a few cycles for them to stop the billing. I called them about it but they said I had to go online and send "Corporate" my complaint about the bills that kept coming. I sent a few emails and eventually I received a phone call telling me that they had no info stating that I had cancelled my membership and that I would have to pay the entire amount. I told them that it was not my fault and that I refused to pay it.
Well, in another month I received a pink notice that was from a collection agency. Now the bill was up to $120.00 plus other fees.
I contacted them and I told them I had no intention to pay for it and why. They said it was already put against my credit report. Personally, I do not care what happens here I am not paying it. I told them to take me to court. She laughed and said well its on YOUR credit Report.
I am not at fault and feel this is very un-professional. Even now that my other gym (SNAP Fitness) has closed in my neighborhood I want to go to Planet because its closer and cheaper but I refuse to eat my words so I am going to a place that costs more.
I am not backing down. SNAP is the cleanest and best kept gym I have been to in Maryland.

robbery
I was in my local planet fitness on 9/13/2010. I locked all my belongings in my locker. After my workout I went to my locker. My lock was gone and my money was stolen from my wallet. I notified the personal and they took all my information. How could this happen right during the day and no one seen it. I heard earlier the same day someone was in the locker room with a bolt cutter, but got away. It could only be another member, I am now afraid to go back to planet fitness arter being there for several years. I rather pay more and know my things are safe.
no access tags and bad customer service to boot
I joined Planet Fitness Fourways and paid R25 upfront for an access tag. They didn't have any access tags at the time but promised they would have the next day. I have not yet received an access tag and so everytime I go to gym, I have to try get one of the very disinterested members of staff to open for me. If its busy, I usually wait around 10mins before someone acknowledges me and lets me in. Each time I am told that there will be access tags available the next day and each time - there is not. There was a register for tags at one point that I signed but the next day noone knew anything of the register. The staff make empty promises about getting a tag for me if I come to them specifically the next day, and surprise surprise that person is not around. I want an access tag, or give me my R25 back and I'll get you guys to let me in every time! I am finding this to be a great inconvenience and frustration!
shocking condition of spinning bikes
I have been spinning at bedfordview for two months now and watched how the bikes have got worse and worse. If it wasn't for the great instructor (Simon) that gives us a class that is worth sitting on **** bikes for I would have been out of there. Handle bars wobble, pedal clips are broken, tension nobs don't work properly or at all and the bikes are noisy. Yesterday it was by far the worst, people had to move several times to find bikes that were working. We get to the class 30min earlier on a Sunday morning (unnecesarily) to make sure we have bikes that work but they are all shocking, I also spin as Rivonia and their bikes are much better. Its time bedfordview upgrades their bikes. I don't think its worth it to fix the bikes. We as members deserve much better equipment! Make something happen!
I went to planet fitness and was lyed to . we told their employee we would be moving to lakes region. She told us there was no problem. When we went to the new gym we were told that we had no membership. After numerous calls and told diffent stories we still contiued to pay. We went to belmont the 4 time and they gave us a cancelation form.we signed it( have copy too) and were told that they would give us free membership for all the problems we went thr (six months worth) Yet the following month, we went to the gum and were told no we have no membership. But still paying. The employees tell you anything and lye . No one there knows what the procedures are they make it up as they go. I have been thr this for seven months. now. I spoke to managers just to waiste my time. They just want to take your money thas why lakes region has a bad rep. I an sending my cancelation certifed mail so they can not say they dont have and i have a copy of Decembers cancelation but they said another gum can not cancel your membership Yet here is tyhere form signed by their empoyee.
not allowed to cancel contract with medical reason
I have recently discovered that i have serious neck and back problems and i am currently undergoing treatment at a chiropractor. this is the reason why i cannot attend the gym anymore. i cannot pay for another 3 years when i cannot use the service. i phoned the moffet on main branch and was told that i have to finish my my contract. i feel that with a letter from my chiropractor that should be enough. it is not my fault and was definitely not planned that i would have to do this. i thoroughly enjoy planet fitness and would love to join again once i am able to.
the experience has ultimately become a frustrating one rather than relaxing
I am a member of Planet Fitness through Discovery and I was initially very excited about the lovely, practical new tags which were introduced in May in all Planet Fitness branches.
At first i didn't mind singing in my name, surname, ID number, time, date, and signature when tags did not work at the entrance as I understand that such inititative programmes may have glitches in the beginning of the implementation stage.
However, it has now been more than 2 MONTHS that i have had to sign in on paper every single time and I have never been more frustrated! It seems noone can tell me when this problem will be addressed or whether anyone is actually trying to do anything? It's really making Planet Fitness look unprofessional and slack. As you can imagine, when one walks into a gym, the last thing one wants to do is fill another form for the day after standfing in a queue for the pen, and then having to race to make it to a class. The experience has ultimately become a frustrating one rather than relaxing.
I am in fact going to refuse signing in from now on, because i'm sick and tired of this and i dont care whether i forego the Vitality points or not.

today I was electrocuted in the steam bath at this gym
Today I was electrocuted in the steam bath at this gym. The reason, a miserly repair job on a light fitting which being situated in a wet area should have been intrinsically safe. Instead some cheap skate glued the light fitting and put it back into the steam bath. Innocently, being soaking wet, I stood up naked as the day i was born save for my costume, and touched the light fitting. I was thrown to the floor and sustained injuries to my left hand with the resultant electric shock. This is an industrial accident and as such requires to be reported to certain authorities for investigation. I have tried the telephone number for your webb site. It just goes unanswered. Instead I as the injured party sit with a numb hand, deep bruising and quite possibly shock. You people make me sick with your irresponsibility. I am deeply hurt over this incident and I reserve my rights.
I am truly shocked by this disgusting display of service
When I joined Planet fitness in Feb of this year the consultants could not leave me alone. I was bombarded with phone calls to join. I did join and was happy. When I joined there was a promotion running for a return domestic air ticket which I was suppose to receive within 2 weeks. Well I waited 3 months and it would have been longer if I had not complained. When I received the voucher I only had two weeks left to register it but the voucher states that I must allow 30 days. So the end result is that the voucher is totally usseless. I left messages at the gym for the manager to contact me the last week of June. I am still waiting for a call. I have gone to see him personally and after a promise that he would get back to me I am still waiting. I have in the last 2 + months left more than 10 messages and nobody has bothered to contact me. I am truly shocked by this disgusting display of service!
bad experience
I've never been treated so badly by a company. I felt harassed and threatened. Management is no better than staff. My issue was so small, any other company would have solved it without subjecting me to threats. Planet Fitness has the bad habit of resolving issues with their members with threats of membership cancellation and or suggestions that member should cancel the membership themselves. This is their idea of customer service. It is as if your membership and your business does not matter and is not appreciated. They write you up like in grade school; putting negative comments on your file as "being warned". They are a franchise company, meaning they are owned and operated individually, but if you ask for a phone number to talk to someone in "Corporate" (after all, there are corporate standards they must follow), the number is not available. If you ask for information to contact the owner, the information is not available. I did some digging and found the corporate number: [protected]. I left a message at Corporate and one to be contacted by the owner of my home gym. No one has contacted me. My suggestion to you, stick to a gym with a little more class, and better customer retention policies. You might have to spend a couple of bucks more, but in the end peace of mind is worth every penny.
This company's so-called dress code is discriminative against African American Women and Men. I have been a member for almost two years. And have worn a silk scarf on several occasions with no issues. However, on April 13th I was denied access at 8:30 pm. As of today April 14th I cancelled my membership and have encourage co-workers and friends to do the same. I had never been informed of this rule and I believe this is only because of the increase in African-American Customers that this particular branch has decided to enforce this so-called corporate sponsored rule. I will also be filing complaints with several agencies regarding this disrespect. I have been a member of several gyms and have never been told I could not wear a silk scarf. The Manager did not care and was not sympathetic at all. He was very rude and disrespectful. And to think I recommended this gym. From this day forward I will tell everyone I know and all on Facebook to stay away from Planet Fitness. Additionally, I am requesting a refund for my membership. Since, I was not aware that I was patronizing a gym that is racist.
arrogant manager
This winter was the coldest in the history of Florida, yet every day the old lady who works the front desk in the mornings would have the air conditioner at 72 and all the ceiling fans going at full blast. One day after getting the flu because of working out and sweating in a gym that was colder than a freezer, I asked if they could turn the fans down a little. The old lady at the front desk snapped back "Nobody has ever complained. Maybe you should ask the manager." When I asked the manager, he told me that they have 100, 000 members and if I did not like the ceiling fans blowing full blast all the time then I should go somewhere else. The next day I got an email saying my membership had been cancelled, but they would not send me a confirmation that they had stopped billing my credit card. They also did not refund the month that I had already paid which they cancelled. These folks are the rudest and most arrogant people that I have ever dealt with in 35 years of being a member of gyms and fitness centers. Their idea of customer service amounts to telling off the customer and then cancelling the membership. Since the membership is so cheap, they treat people like garbage and figure that one customer only amounts to ten dollars a month, so they can blow off any customer.

You do not get the flu from working out and sweating in a freezing gym. You get it from breathing in the virus or touching it and then putting your infected hands in your mouth or nose. You probably think you can get a cold from going out in the winter in your bare feet ot a wet head. LOL
terrible staff
It may be one of the cheapest gyms out there but there is a reason for this. Only 6 television channels to choose from, of which half are sports. Customer service is not even a word in their vocabulary. None of the employees are friendly or even acknowledge you--in fact they are straight up rude! I was given inconsistent information about the cancellation policy, resulting in getting charged for additional months when I would not even be able to use the gym. Asked the manager for assistance in regard to the information that I was given by his employee and was snubbed. The website doesn't even have a way to contact corporate to deal with complaints. Moral of the story: if you have a problem or complaint your screwed. The staff doesn't care and there is no way to contact anyone above them.

The slogan is the judgement free zone but the women who work there, ignore me or are straight up RUDE. Its like its a chore for them to turn on a tanning booth or ring me out for a water bottle. Anytime I ask for help with a piece of a equipment, I would get the cold shoulder. This place isn't all its cracked up to be... The workers there are awful, oh and why dont you enforce the cleaning of equipment by other members?!,
Funny that I decide to read this after I try and make a complaint. Except I dug information out of this web till I could find the number... The management especially there manager Terry Fenwick is a joke. I thought in order for you to work in a gym you must have proper education (specifically the general manager). I got into an argument with him when he had decided to rip their sign off and throw it in my face. I asked who I can talk to that was higher and he stated no one. Well maybe my judgement but there general manager and his anger mangement problem should not be in a gym. And not only have I found the sma efeelings from this location but also from other locations around the US. Hmm could it be that they train to be ignorant maybe. I am writing to the better bureau to have these gyms looked into because I believe every other gym you have to have the proper education but apparently not this one.

This place is FILTHY! There is mold and mildew on the shower curtains. the shower stalls smell like sewer and water pools at your feet sometimes. Ive gone into the tanning rooms first thing in the morning to dried lotion on the beds and nasty paper towels and garbage on the floor.
The staff is unresponsive to issues when its brought to their attention and just doesn't seem to care. Most times if there are 2 people working they are so busy gossiping about their personal lives that you end up waiting for them to finish their conversation.
My checking account has been over charged 5 months in a row and all I keep hearing is that it will be taken care of and credits issued and they have yet to be.
We are canceling and going back to our $94.00 a month fitness center membership where none of those problems ever happened

bad buisness
The staff was eying me from the second i walked in the door. My weights were taken off the machine by staff and staff was cleaning the machine in the middle of my workout. They have 5-6 staff for a small one room facility. The staff has nothing to do and are very un-helpful. They then proceeded to set off a siren and alarm on me and surrounded me verbally...

We must all firstly, question any merchant or order of business, when they oblige an individual/consumer,
To give up access to their accounts to pay for the service, services offered, including an individuals id, identity and privacy. If an individual can not pay for a service offered by their own will with cash, and without sacrificing privacy, security and their own identity, and the right not to enter the binding of contracts for services offered, should people not question the trustworthyness of that merhcant/establishments method of the business practiced?
It is the good will of a good and notable business to earn the trust of the people of its community, and cater to those people of what is best in those particular peoples interest. And then perhaps the business shall be worthy of the business of those people.
Always keep in mind, "without the customer, the business cannot stay in business".
People should always question what must be given up of themselves to obtain a service offered to them. If it requires more than of your own money, is it worth it?
I work for a Planet Fitness, and yes that is all most the way it sounds. And I have to tell you that the Judgement Free Zone is a joke. And so are some of there policies, no weight dropping, when some of the equipment is broken and has been for a few weeks. No Jeans, hell that is all I where, and I can do every thig you all do is sweets in jeans. There tanning is a big joke. Managment at some clubs suck. And they have meetings for staff on real short time notes. where I work at we run out of supply's all the time. Hell you almost have to beg to get you rase on time. I have had 2 fist one 6 weeks late, and the scond 3 weeks late. Worse place I have ever worked for so far. Hell thay cant even get everyone's work hours right. We are being told that they need to cut hours all the time. Planet Fitness is just a big cash cow for the owners, that most have other bisness's, ie other fitness clubs, eaters, small store's, ect.
If THIS is your POSITION then you should feel FREE to join another GYM when you can PAY CASH each month. Don't like a GYM'S policies? Then JOIN another GYM. Don't come here and WHINE about some business' POLICIES. If you don't LIKE it, don't JOIN it.
disrespectful staff/poor service/billing problems
To cancel a membership is excruciatingly difficult. If you can't go there personally they ask to mail a letter. Which they then do not receive and charge you fees and for 2 more months more worth of service, even if you have not attended the gym for 1 year. In fine print it is written that your membership automatically renews every year. Terrible customer...
Read full review of Planet Fitness and 2 commentstry avoiding upper-level staff at all times
I joined this gym primarily for the rates, location, and overall friendly staff (the person who showed me around when I was thinking about joining, for example, was a very informative, polite individual, eloquent and well-versed in answering all of my questions thoroughly). While I have no qualms about the actual facility or slightly ludicrous codes of conduct, I have on more than one occasion run into some unpleasant experiences with the owner of my location.
Illegally parked outside the gym almost every day, this individual has often left me feeling...rubbed the wrong way. On one occasion, for example, I signed up with him for a session in the tanning booth. As they were all full, I sat down and waited, and was the only one in line. 2 minutes later, one opens up and I get up and make eye contact in hopes he'll give me the heads-up. Instead, I was asked, "Are you waiting to tan? OK, did you sign in?" Yes. With you. 2 minutes prior. I guess the attractive woman he was chatting with after registering me took his mind elsewhere.
A couple weeks later, I underwent a change in credit cards. 2 days later, unfortunately one of those days being the monthly billing day, I arrived, and tried to sign in when he very rudely asked me if I "got a new card." Temporarily confused with this vague questioning, I thought he was telling me new membership cards were released. Then it hit me. I tried to apologize several times for forgetting to inform them of the switch, trying to explain that I had just received my new card only two days earlier, but all I got in return was, "Next time tell us when something like this happens." He then had the audacity to ask me if this new card "had enough on it to make the payment." If he was doubting that he probably should have asked me before he filled out the paperwork. At least my frustration at this boorish behavior gave me some good energy for my workout that day.
Despite the fact my job as a restaurant server has my income relying 90% on tips (smiles, extreme politeness, et al), I do not think my standards for general courtesy are too high.
For their prices and large amount of equipment, they cannot be beat. But try avoiding upper-level staff at all times.
You tend to make blanket statements as far as "staying away from upper level staff" Not all upper level staff are like this at all locations.
For every chain there is a corporate location that has an email. If you can get that, try and deal with it properly. Good luck.
billing processes
A couple fo months ago bank of america contacted me with notice they believed my credit card had been compromised and they immediately issued a new card. I was travelling and could not go my local rockledge fl planet fitness. When I went in on june 22, 2010 I was informed I was late for two months of automatic charges and would have to pay both the back months and a $20 late fee. I explained the situation with the credit card and said I would authorize using the new card, pay the back 2 months but not the overage charges as I had never been notified. The girl at the desk explained it was an automatic system that called and left messages (First lie). There were never any messages and I said I didn't think that was a very reliable system. I told her to go ahead and charge the card for the two past months and to have the manager call me if there were questions. Tim donald (Manager... (Possibley relation to the owner bill donald) called the next day and was very rude and said I didn't know anythign about business (I founded and sucessfully took public two high tech companies). He said they had mailed a notice and had confirmation of delivery (Second lie) but couldn't/wouldn't tell me the date it was made or how they had confirmation. Then in an angry rage tim said he was cancelling my membership (Boo hoo!) and never to set foot in his faclity again as he hung up! (Nice people skills tim). Then 3 days later I get a letter dated june 24th telling me of the problem in billing. This obvious cya letter now is dated two days after the initial incident and demanded the full payment including the back 2 months and the late fee.
Bottom line. This place and the manager tim donald is not to be trusted. I am waiting for the slightest attempt by them to collect, charge my card or fiddle with my excellent credit ratiing so I can slap them with a formal complaint to the state and small claims suit.
