charges for sedition
This past Friday I had scheduled an oral surgery procedure. I was told that I need to have three teeth extracted and that they would sedate me and with my insurance my out-of-pocket cost would be $418. The $418 was to cover 3-15 minute intervals of sedation. I suffer with extreme anxiety especially with being at a dentist and that was fully disclosed...
Read full review of Aspen Dentallied to when making appointment
I made an appointment with your Aspen Dental office in Joliet, IL for today May 25. I told the girl when I made the appointment I needed my teeth cleaned and a filling replaced which I lost. She assured me I would be able to get all that done today which was not the case! My surgeon wanted me to have my teeth cleaned prior to surgery since it would be 3 months after surgery before I would be able to have any dental work done. My family dentist was unable to squeeze me in on short notice. Even when I checked in at the front desk I told the girl my name and I was there for a cleaning and to have the filling on the tooth I lost taken care of. The girl at the front desk didn't advise me they have no hygienist there on Saturdays nor was it possible for me to see the dentist to get the filling replaced. Why wasn't I informed of this when I checked in? Perhaps it was because this practice is running a scam and the receptionists are told not to be upfront with the patients. I was called back and they did a full set of x-rays and I still wasn't told I would not get my teeth cleaned nor the filling replaced. Not until I was put in an exam room was I told I would have to make another appointment to see the hygienist and to see the dentist which cannot be done on the same day which was another lie from what I was told on the phone when I made the appointment. The girl who did my x-rays said the dentist would be right in to go over the treatment plan which I wasn't interested in any treatment plan they had to offer. I was just there for a cleaning and to have the filling I lost filled. Time was of essence since surgery is in a couple of weeks. We sat in the exam room for over 30 minutes and no one came in to let us know the dentist was running a little behind so we left. I demanded my x-rays when leaving and both my daughter and I yelled at the receptionist for being lied to and furthermore operating their office as a scam lying to patients in order to get patients into their office under false pretense. My regular dentist would be retiring in the near future and I was hoping this group would become my new dentist when that happened. Well that will never happen since I don't want any dentist affiliated with running a scam dental practice where they are being deceitful with their patients. I want a dentist who is honest and one I can trust which this place is neither honest or trustworthy. I will never go back to this place ever again nor would I recommend this place. I will warn anyone who is looking for a dentist to stay far away from this place since you will be lied to when you make an appointment just so they can get you into the office to get their full mouth set of x-rays. If I was told the truth when I made the appointment informing me the dental hygienist is not in on Saturdays nor would I be able to get the filling on the tooth done I would have never made an appointment at this place. They care more about collecting insurance money than they do for any new patient. Definitely not a very good impression they make on a new patient. This has to be the worse dental office in the Joliet area. I will be notifying my insurance company of how I was treated and lied to so they can review whether this is the type of dental office they want in their network especially since they place high standards for how their military members are treated. After being lied to their is no desirable resolution you can offer since I will never step foot in this office again.
dentures
Had 9 teeth extracted on bottom and full set of dentures. Total price 4, 000. First doctor explained that lowers can be difficult and explained snap in. Due to cost it was necessary to decline. As my husband is in need of replacement dentures too.
My new dentures, bottoms are loose. I bite my enter bottom lip so often I can eat due to it being raw. I now speak with a lisp and often my bottom teeth extend beyond the uppers. I'm not pleased with the look as I feel that, meaning the bottoms look too long. But I cannot even talk without them jumping around and use so much adhesive that it changes the taste of food and coats my mouth. If I use a sparing amount thay move around.
Upon going back to Aspen the dentist that did the extracting told me to open close jaw a few times and said I need snap ins. Of course he said I was told this to begin with. It was told as an option not my only remedy to hold my teeth in.
He is arrogant and from extraction to my last visit has a matter of fact no bedside attitude. He said there was nothing I could have done but to spend another 4, 000. For snap ins. I tried to explain that with my husband needing dentures I couldn't afford them and he
Told me to have my husband get cheap ones. He was to the point and wouldn't even discuss the fact I'm biting the inside of my mouth constantly or they don't stay in even when I speak no less try to eat.
I don't want to deal with him again. I'm so disappointed with this experience. I held up to my end paying regularly on the 4000. I went to Aspen because of the guarantee that I would be pleased. Now I am being told I need to spend 4000. More to be pleased. This is so wrong on so many levels. I cannot tell you how difficult the last 5 months have been with these I'll fitting dentures.
Where do I go from now?

aspen dental charging for their own improperly fitted crown.
Dear Aspen dental,
A few years back I we through a full treatment plan that included fillings, cleanings, root canals, and crowns. As I do not have dental insurance this cost me thousands that to this day I am still paying off that credit card. Since then I have switched to a local much closer dentist. Im writing because of a as a customer I am confused and fell like I am being taken advantage of.
This all started May 19th 2019 my crown on my #11 tooth has become lose and constantly needs to be pushed back into place. This has caused me alot of discomfort and pain. I will date and time everthing that follows.
May 21st 8am est. Called Aspen Dental in Amherst N.H.. Talked to Kaylin Barrett. She told me a crown should last at minimum 3 to 5 years. Because I was no longer an active patient of theirs I needed to prove I have been taking proper care of my teeth. I was given an email that my current dentist would send all my x-rays, exams, and work done to be sent to.
May 21st 9am est. I called my Dentist Dr Bob, and had all my information emailed to Aspen Dental.
May 23rd 930am est. I called back Aspen Dental to find out why nobody got back to me. Kaylin claims she never got the paperwork in the email, and that my phone number does not work for her.
May 23rd 940am est. I called back Dr. Bob and had paperwork resent to Aspen Dental.
May 23rd 10am est. Called Aspen Dental Amherst N.H. to learn status of paperwork. They still did not receive it.
May 23rd 1030am est I picked up paperwork to hand deliver to Aspen Dental from Dr. Bob.
May 23rd 1120am est. Turned in paperwork with Kaylin at Aspen Dental. I was then told there was nothing that can be done until I schedule an x-ray #220 and an exam #140 with one of their new Dr.s Reddy or Santa Maria. Anytime I mentioned the tooth or what was wrong she would immediately interrupt me and say " I'm not a dentist." rudely to quiet me. The cost of the x-ray and exam would be 140$ I would have to pay. Only then will they see what can be done about the loose crown. She kept saying stuff like any past agreements were with a different dentist that is no longer there, and they may not cover anything.
With a weary feeling, and mouth still in pain I scheduled the appt for 5/29/19.
I spoked to my current dentist and they feel I should not have to pay for an exam or x-ray of a improperly fitted crown that lasted less than 3 years. I feel like I am being taken advantage of.
Thank you for your time,
Robert

overall service
I went to the Aspen Dental in Montgomery AL. I was very excited about getting my work finally done on my teeth. For the most past the staff is very nice although I am concerned that there has been a huge turn over. The dentist I had just up and left and I was told he took a LOA. I have my partial now it took over a month to get it passed the final step and in my mouth. Well it needs to be adjusted and I have tried for several day to contact them and there phone always goes to the closed message. I went in the last week because I could not get ahold of them and while I was standing in front of the desk I called them and it went to the closed message again. When I brought it to there attention I watched the recp. reach down and take the phone off hold and guess what the phone started to ring. Well it has been 6 days now and I have yet to be able to get ahold of them again. The reason I got last time is Regional told them it was ok to place the phone on hold when they are busy. I am glad I do not handle customer service like that in my work place we would be out of work. I guess I will need to stop by there again since I can get them on the phone. Try calling [protected] and see what you get.
unauthorized charges
Approximately three years ago I went to Aspen Dental in Ithaca NY. I was told that I needed a whole bunch of work. I told the people there I could not afford it and they referred me to open an account with Genesis. I was pressured into doing so, I told them that I would do that but that I was going to get a second opinion.
I did get a second opinion, and I was told by two dentists that I did not need the work recommended by Aspen. Needless to say, I did not have the work done with Aspen and I never returned to them. However, Aspen charged the Genesis card for $430. I was unaware that they did that, and there was never any service provided.
I spoke to the customer service representative in the local office about this charge, and she gave me a HUGE runaround - her training must have been excellent. I was under the impression that if I contacted Genesis everything would be taken care of.
I contacted Genesis, and they told e that Aspen had to take care of it. No help.
Now I am trying to get this charge removed from my credit. I would very much like this situation remedied please. Can you please contact me and help me clear this up?
excessive wait times for scheduled appointments
My complaint is about the excessive wait times for scheduled appointments, , , The last two before today were late about 2 hours each..Today I wasn't feeling too well and left the office after not being seen by a dentist after an hour past my scheduled appointment. They've already got my money and now its like " I'm Invisible " my appointment time doesn't matter. The office is located in West Melbourne at 249 Palm Bay Road N.E. 32904. This is not the way to run an office.. Never had anywhere near these terrible waits with any other Doctor in my life and i;m pushing 74..I have to go back for my Denture Completion...I wish I didn't. James L. Reynolds...By the way this is the 1st. complaint letter I have ever written..truly sad.
very rude office manager at pembroke pines location
My name is delores newbold i became a patient at the pembroke pines location on may 3rd 2019 and agreed to an financial plan for my procedures which was 137 on may 3rd, 154 5/10/19 and, 108.00 5/13/19. Due to the office manager at the office i had 2 bad experiences the first one on 5/6/19 i had half of my deep cleaning done. I paid that half on the 3rd. She demanded payment of 154. Half of my mouth was full on novacain or some type of numbing agent i explain to her our agreement and she told me that wasn't our agreement and i need to pay, she explain that i have to then pay the `154 and 108 on 5/10/19 and talk to me as if i'm a child telling me off by stating that you need to pay and ill only do this, this one time, i told her to check the notes in the computer i have my financial agreement in the car she completely ignored what i said and proceeding on stating that i need to pay everything today or 5/10/19. She was very rude i felt like i was dealing with a loan shark she didn't care to look at our financial agreement telling me next time they will collect the money up front and not after my procedure, i was so embarassed because there were patients in the hall way going in to the rooms to have there procedures done. As of today i decided to give my insurance a call to see if there are any alternative procedures that can be done at a cheaper price, i call aspen dental first spoke to 3 different people and no one could help me find out my diagnosis or the names for the reasons on why the procedure is being done. I then talk to ana the office manager once again and she was super rude she would'nt give me the reasons on why i need the procedures done she kept telling me to look at my print out which only states the procedures not the reasons for it she then stated ( the hygenist and doctor told me) i stated then i'm not saying they didn't i just want to know. She refused to tell me and kept going on how this was explain to me she is super (difficult, rude and hard to deal) with i just wanted to know my reasons so i can call the insurance company to see if there are alternative cheaper procedures to be done, i have an appointment with that office tomorrow and to be honest i am contemplating of not going and find another dental office to go to, i really like going there the staff are really nice, except the manager ana!
failure to submit my treatment to my dental insurance company with which aspen dental is a participating provider.
I went to the Aspen Dental office here in Ashtabula, Ohio on September 14, 2018 with a severe abcess. I was told I needed a root canal, which I had already assumed. My insurance company told me that they would pay 90% yet the financial person called me before the next appointment to tell me I would owe $662 on a $1295 treatment. Having severe pain I kept my appointment but when I presented for the tx, I was made to pay $737! I said I would have to with a few months before I could afford to do a crown. I was told that the crown should be done asap, which I understood but could not afford. I asked that a predetermination of benefits be sent to Lincoln Financial so I would know my exact copay. The lady at the desk was very abrupt and rude to me but said ok. When I rec'd my insurance EOB, it stated my root canal copay should have been $217.80! I requested a refund of the credit but was refused. I was told it would be applied to future tx. I again requested a predetermination of benefits. I returned on January 11, 2019 and had a crown buildup done, No copay was requested due to my HUGE credit balance. I made an appointment to finish the crown. A few days later, I was contacted by the office and told that I would owe an additional $900 before the would finish the crown! I asked if they had submitted a predet to the ins and was told that "They don't do that unless the insurance wants on"!?
My mother then got involved. She worked in dentistry for 42 years. Specifically coordinating insurance benefits with patient financial responsibilities. She spoke with the financial woman (Amanda) and was told the same thing. Though I overpaid by over $500 for the root canal and ins pays 60% on crowns, I was expected to pay an add'l $900! We were then told if I didn't return for the permanent crown within 3 weeks of the crown prep date, my insurance wouldn't pay anything! I demanded a predet and was promptly hung up on! Surprise! a week later I rec'd a predet from my insurance. My crown copay was $405.80 and I still had a credit balance of $202.10 before benefits for the crown buildup were paid (which I was told by the insurance company that woud be reprocessed for benefits as soon as the crown was completed). At the very most, I would owe $203.70 for the completed tx. I made an appointment to have the crown completed and was ushered over to the financial "person" before I was treated. My mother came with me as I anticipated a problem. She showed the Aspen person the predet and the check for the balance of the tx. The paper and check were pushed back at me across the desk and we were told that the account was now due in full and insurance would not be billed as "They would not pay any benefits. My mother said that was not true as we had called the insurance that very morning and verified available benefits. The Aspen employee, Amanda, said no $997, no tx. She said if I did not pay it, I would go directly to collections. I told her I didn't have that kind of money. I got up and said I'm leaving and she said, "Well, the exit is right there.". I have called the patient satisfaction line numerous times to no avail. I rec'd a call on my phone on 4/23/19 from Aspen Dental but no message was left. I called back but, there was no answer. On May 4, 2019, I rec'd a letter stating the regional manager had been unable to reach my by phone and to call a "Dante Benincasa" at 440/969-1247 ext 2. I called today and who should answer but Amanda! I asked to speak with Mr. Benincasa and was told he wasn't in that office today. I asked when he would be in and was told that she didn't know. I am now out of pocket $737, in a temporary crown and being refused treatment. This delay could very possibly cost me my tooth. At the very least jeopardize the integrity of the root canal! All I ask is that this Aspen Dental office honor their contract with my insurance carrier and finish my treatment. I will gladly pay the copay amount as stated on my predet of benefits. If not, I will seek other recourses to rectify this insane situation! I, once again, await a reply. Sincerely, Kathryn Kessler 440/812-5016
orland park location
I'm complaining about the services at the Orland Park location in Chicago - I continue to have problem with appointments at that location. One day I sit in their office from 11:30am until 5:20pm because the lady that answer the phone told me they had a 1pm appointment so I came in when I left the other doctor office in Maywood IL. I believe they made me sit there out of spike because told the front desk clerk that she did tell me that I can come.
I had an appointment on Tuesday April 30, 2019 at 4pm as I arrived to the appointment after being there for 15 minute I called up to be informed that my teeth was not ready yet. We reschedule the appointment for the next Tuesday at 4pm, now I just got a text saying the appointment is at 5:30. The office is support to open at 8am on Tuesday, it is now 8:42am and each time I call I get the answering services line.
I work in downtown Chicago and live in Romeoville which is about 60 miles from my home so I always pick the 4pm appointment if its available because about how long it takes me to get there from downtown Chicago. I asked her on my last visit on April 30, 2019 can I change location and she imply since they are the one that making the denture I need to wait until they are completed before I can change location.
I very dissatisfied with this location and just wanted to know what can I do to get my teeth and move on.
Thank you for your time.
not honoring the dental insurance explanation of benefits
I went to Aspen Dental in Baxter, MN for a teeth cleaning on September 25, 2018. I was told if there was any fees for services they would be collected at the time of service. They didn't ask for any payment for my appointment. During the appointment the dental hygienist said she was applying a fluoride treatment, I said hold on, is that going to cost me? She said did they collect at the front desk and I reply no. Okay, she said you must have coverage. Well, a month after the appointment, I hadn't received anything from Aspen Dental and we moved to another state. Come last December I received a bill from them for the fluoride treatment that was $44. I was upset but promptly paid the bill. I heard nothing else from them until I received an email on May 1, 2019 saying there was a problem with my account. I responded asking what was the issue and the reply said I owed them another $55. I found the EOB from GEHA Connection Dental Federal dated 9/27/18 stating under claim summary: Amount billed $140, Amount allowed $54, Claim disallowed $86, Other coverage payment $24, GEHA total paid, $38, Member responsibility (fluoride varnish) $36. I sent a copy of this back to them, asked if they filed with BCBSM for preventative benefits of $24 and why aren't they honoring the contractual UCR discounts of $39 for the teeth cleaning. They responded with claiming not to have the BCBSM which was given to them during my 3 hour intake. They would not address the UCR discounts instead claiming I needed to contact GEHA. I did and the customer care rep named Cassandra said they could not legally bill me for service over the EOB's numbers. When I was working I was the director of human resources for different companies and very familiar with UCR and claims. Aspen is telling me they are sending me to collections if I do not pay $55. I don't appreciate the threat of ruining my credit over something I do not owe. I have never had a bill in collections, period. I do not appreciate their tactics of sitting on this all these months, they didn't have my current address because I thought our business was concluded, however they did have my email address all this time. I did call GEHA and they told me I didn't owe them any money, it is illegal for them to collect. However so far Aspen Dental is still demanding I pay them $55.
charges & overwhelming amounts of xrays
I called because my dentist closed down and my cap came off so needed it put back. They said they don't take my insurance but would set me for a free exam and consult. They took about 15 xrays if not more. Plus the panoramic view 3 to get that right. She just kept on like she needed one of almost every tooth. Then I was told how bad all my teeth were but yet I have had no pain. Then pretty much forced me to apply for credit with two different companies that I didn't want to do and charged me $91 for a visit that was suppose to be free. My choices were pay now or apply for credit.
first visit
As a new patient, I waited over an hour before I was taken back for xrays. After the xrays, I was taken to the hygienist. She was rough on my teeth and jabbed some instrument repeatedly into my gums even after I complained. She then scratched my face with her dental tool. She never apologized or even acknowledged her action. She tried to tell me that I needed some type of scaling cleaning. I told her no, that I just needed my teeth cleaned. She got pissy and left the room. Next the dentist came in with an assistant and started to review my xrays.
The dentist was speaking with her assistant in terms I did not understand. I asked her about getting my teeth cleaned and she said that she could not clean my teeth unless I would agree to some scaling procedure - which I would not. She advised that it would be unethical and she could lose her license to simply clean my teeth. What a farce.

Around 1st week in March 2019 I had an appointment with Aspen Dental I am on Medicare insurance they except so I went complaining of back tooth Lower left hurting. After full set of X-rays were taken the doctor came in said my options for that tooth was root canal or pulling it. I said I want pulled he gave me a script for antibiotic to take while they were checking with my insurance. He mentioned other things that would need to be done also. So I go home in pain take the antibiotics and wait to hear back from them once they hear from insurance. Never got call back. The way they handled my husbands billing concerned me so since I did not hear from them I decided to ask for X-rays to go elsewhere. They only wanted to give me paper copies. The new office said they need digital. I went filled out a request where to send them signed a release form and was told the digital had to come from corporate but would receive in 7 days more than 7 days passed no X-rays. Called Corporate in Texas spoke to Julie. She called the Bristol Aspen and they told her first I never signed a release I need to go back which was a lie then Julie said at corporate I can email to you directly I said fine. By this time a more than a month had gone by. So when I went to second location I was given by my primary dr 2k mg of amoxicillin to take 1-2 hrs prior to having tooth pulled. I did as directed. When in the second location to finally get tooth pulled the hygienist said that Aspen had sent someone else X-rays and I had to end up getting an X-ray anyway. One reason I did not want more X-rays I had just gotten out of hospital with double pneumonia. So I was forced to get an X-ray. When the new dr new location came in he said the tooth had some decay but did not see the need to pull could start with just a feeling or root canal. Needless to say after over a month in pain and now being told something different. I have Lupus & IBS and Dud not want to take more antibiotics than necessary the 2nd dentist said I should not have even had to take them. So for Aspen holding my X-rays hostage all this put me through so much unnecessarily. Very very frustrated. I would not want to see anybody else treated that way
