digital coupon policy
Shopped at Dollar General in Champlain, NY on Sept. 25, 2016. Could not purchase weekly specials because only digital coupons are accepted. I am a Sennior on a limited income and do not have a Smart phone and will not purchase one so I can shop at this store. I personally feel this is not a good policy for consumers because not everyone can afford the cost of a Smart phone, this will inevitably limit shopping at Dollar pGeneral
customer service
The main employee at our dollar general has always been so rude. I have been going for 7 years. He has been there at least the last year. One time i had bought about 6 cards. He separated each envelope from its card and stacked them up so i had to rematch later. Rarely does he ever even look up from the register to acknowledge you as a customer when checking out. If he does he is curt and rude. He acts as if it is a bother to come in the store because he needs to restock the shelves. I love dollar general, but dread going when he is working, he doesnt wear a name tag, so dont know his name. Yesterday, I asked him how much a tube of lipstick was. Never looking at me in the face, he told me to sit the lipstick down. I didnt understand, and he repeated "sit the lipstick down". Then he picked it up and scanned it. Crazy rude man! I am a business owner myself and would never treat a customer like he treats everyone!

facility
We are glad to have a DG in our rural area. We are concerned that the restrooms aren't in working order in this new store. I have seen employees ask to go the gas station across the 4 lane road to use the toilet. They say they must plunge the toilet with every flush. It seems unsanitary for employees to do this or cross the road to use a restroom. It is a rural area so customers also need access to a restroom often stopping while going home from town a long 30 mile drive.
Florida law requires sanitary facility for all businesses.

pricing issues, overcharging
At the Dollar General in Fort Scott Kansas I generally have good service, and not much to complain about. However, they need to do something about educating their staff on how to calculate when the scanner/computer doesn't do it for them.
Bought a DVD that was clearly marked "$6.00". Scanner brought up a price of $10.00 I had only two other purchases, one was $1.50 and the other was $2.75. My total should have came to $11.75 before tax. The girl saw that the dvd was marked for $6 but said something about this is a 'scanner training' issue? And proceeded to tell me she would have to mark it down the other $4.00 by taking it off of the other items. This would mean that somehow she would have to come up with a way to divide .25 over two items. Instead she charged me 25 cents on each. Now, this means that I was overcharged by a quarter. Not much, no big deal. Well, yes and no. I don't mind paying the extra 25 cents, it isn't going to break me. But that does not fix the situation that the dvd is not pricing correctly and every one of that same one will not price correctly. Another issue is training, this doesn't fix the issue that the girl obviously needs more training if she cannot calculate it correctly. The third issue is, had I decided to pick up something for a quarter and walk out with it, that would be considered theft. It works both ways. DG really needs to invest in their employees training AND they need to fix their computers/scanners that are not pricing things correctly. If every one of these dvds that are marked $6 and are scanning $10 are all being scanned into a central database, DG is making money off of their customers dishonestly-if it isn't caught and corrected. I will be paying quite a bit more attention when I shop there.
customer service
I bought the wrong cigarettes walked out of the store.before I made 10 steps noticed I bought the wrong ones.went back in and was told they could not exchange or take back because I left the store.i was not gone for over twenty seconds.they told me it was because of an fda law (really?)
filthy hand baskets for groceries
I frequent the Dollar General in my community because it has many products that are so much more inexpensive than my grocery mart. However, the grocery baskets that are stacked inside the front door for shopping are disgusting and I will not use one as it makes me feel sick when I see the inside of them. They are all the same. They are so disgusting I will not even use one. If necessary, I will use a cart even for just one item. Can't they be replaced with new ones?, or at least scrubbed.
manager / employees at the forney texas dollar general
I try not to go to Dollar General. I think the staffing is crazy. You have ONE
person at the register while other employees are in the break room or stocking shelves. The manager can walk up and walk outside, walk back in and keep walking even when there are 11 people in line, yes 11. I waited 20 minutes with a 2 year old to check out just for Tylenol. If I really didnt need it, I would have left. This seems to be the case in other Dollar General's also. The store on Motley Drive in Mesquite Texas is just as bad. But the one in Forney is run by a asian / irani man who is rude rude rude. If you want us to continue
to use this brand new store please do something about it.
There are many of us in my community who feel this way.
I look forward to any comments you may have.

manager elvira
My friend and I was in Dollar General in Lineville on Sat Sept 17th. We had some stuff we was gonna purchase and one was a pair of men pajamas. The sign said 40% off grey dot men pjs. Well we was checking out the lady rung the item up and it didnt show the 40% off. Well my friend ask her about it and the manager told her it didnt say that she was lying. So went back to get the sign and the lady was so rude and she didnt even apologize. She was just a very rude and disrespective lady. We have done alot of business there but i will never go back in that store again. I will take me business back to Freds. Her name was Elvira.
manager behavior
I have been coming in Dollar General for quite a while and do not mind spending money there. The reason that I am writing this that in Woodruff SC.after standing in line for almost 10 minutes while a refund held up the line, the manager said I will take someone over here. Now, we live in a first come, first serve world, but, the manager moved my things out of the way, went to a lady still in the original line and said that she is next. How dare her! She knew her or else she would not have known her name. I said you can keep the purchase, abot 20.00 dollars worth and left the store. It will be a cold day in hell before I am treated like that again. Her job should be to ring up who is in front of her, not be the moral police. You should look at this store and who you have managing it! Nasty store, I almost slipped in a soda spilled all over the floor, better be glad that I did not!
dirty, empty shelves
Store# [protected] C East First Street Vidalia, Georgia 30474 around 3 pm on 09/12/20016, when I walked in the store had a dirty odor and smelled bad ! the store had a lot of empty shelves and I could hear 2 employees ( female ) in corner office using bad language and joking around laughing loudly, while one young new employee ( also female ) trying to straighten front shelves and also take care of customers "alone", floors needs sweeping and mopping, boxes in way of walking needing and waiting to be stocked on shelves while 2 employees play in office ! I have been coming to this store for over 5 years now and the past 4 months it has gotten so bad ! the employees use to be friendly and the store was always clean but now this store has hit rock bottom employees are rude not at all helpful always on their cell phones or outside playing with friends something needs to be done to fix these problems before it's to late ! Thank you, from a very concerned customer !
employee rudeness
I am a 40-year resident of Raleigh, NC and frequent the Dollar General store at 1131 Falls River Avenue #101 on a weekly basis.
With the exemption of one employee - who generally works mornings,
my experience there has been a pleasant one.
The store is well-kept, and the staff professional and courteous.
The 'exeption' - in physical description, is tall- around 6'3" -and wears glasses. His attitude, when dealing with customers at the register- fluctuates from general rudeness- to overall indifference.
I am a cigarette smoker, and oftentimes bring an empty pack with me - to show some of the ladies who work there what particular brand I am looking for. Just last week, the rude male employee started a debate with me over whether they were referred to as 'Marlboro Lights' or 'Marlboro Golds'.
There have been occasions where, if I notice he is manning the register, I have chosen another merchant in the shopping center - just to avoid dealing with him. Neighbors and friends in the surrounding area have expressed similar 'reactions' to this employee.
Perhaps, management should consider moving him to another position - one with little, or no, customer interaction.
Now that we've reached a consensus on what a Marloboro Light Box is,
shall we work on our consistent bad humor and generally unfriendly disposition?
As a manager, I would - by design - put my "best face forward" (employee-wise) when assigning staff positions which require near-constant interaction with the general public.
And, you are correct.
I dislike him.
Thank you for your comment.
By your response, I can see just how you had a problem with this person. Since you also admit to not liking him, I would say that the attitude you got is due to the attitude you gave. Continue in this vein, and you will have problems everywhere you shop. Regardless of what you think, you are not the center of the universe, and not every retail employee you harass is going to stand there and take it. There are those, like me, who will put you in your place very quickly. Spending money in a store does not give you the right to be a dick and harass people. You would not like to be harassed for doing your job now would you, assuming you even have a job.
When I was a smoker, a long time ago, they were called Marlboro Lights. Now people call them Marlboro Golds. When I had to fill in at the front of the store a couple years ago, a customer asked me for Marlboro Golds and I had to ask which ones, as no pack has GOLD stamped on it. So yes, sometimes, it can be confusing. This is nothing to make a complaint over. I think you just don't like this guy.
they don't give me the discounts
I have the app on my phone and every time I put my phone number in at cash reg they do something wrong and I don't get the discount and I spend plenty of money to get it . They tell me U can you it next time. But I have to buy more to get discount. Like today I spent 129.00 dollars and I had the $5 dollars off coupon and other ones to and all I got was .55 cents and it happens a lot that's not fair why offer if the employed people will not give you the discounts
disrespect and disregard
We recently took our 86 year old wheelchair-bound aunt from the nursing home to Dollar General, at her request, because she wanted to buy a few items; she is only allowed $30 a month for personal expenses, and she chose to go to Dollar General (location: hwy 24-27). After choosing her items (while shopping in her wheelchair), she said she needed to use the restroom. When asked for the bathroom location, the clerk rudely informed us that their bathroom was NOT for customers and to go next door to the car wash! Needless to say, we left ALL of the items and took her to the closest fast food establishment. This was completely humiliating to our aunt and to be directed to the car wash with her in a wheelchair showed an utter disrespect
to a loyal customer and disregard for the elderly!
Will NEVER again set foot in this Dollar General!
waiting in line, manager was rude.
Today, August 19, 2016 I came in the store to buy some stuff and I heard and seen the manager fussing about another employee to another employee. When I came up front to purchase my stuff she came up front and went behind the counter and 2 other employees was behind the counter and I waited in line about a little over 10 minutes. The manager came out from behind the counter talking on the phone and I asked her where they going to open another register and she said no it had to be counted down and kept on walking out the door. She didn't say I'm sorry. So I laid my stuff on the counter and walked out. The manager was doing something to the ice machine. This is the 2nd complaint. I told my husband that we needed to quit doing business with yall. We went to the grocery store and purchased the stuff we needed. We will be doing business with the grocery store and Freds.
Dollars store aren't in business to provide customer service. They are there to sell stuff cheap. Having cashiers standing by is not in the business plan. You get what you pay for.
Sounds like you interrupted her phone call without excusing yourself. You came across as very rude and most likely that is why you got the response you did.
rude behavior
Monday August 5, 2016 went in to dollar general and picked up 2 sunday state papers to purchase, stood in line for 10 minutes, finally got to cashier, manager then comes up and rudely takes the papers out my hands, snaps at me that I shouldn't have come behind the counter to get them. (they were in the news stand with about a dozen more). Was told dollar general could not sell sunday paper on monday. Went home contacted the state paper, Columbia, s.c. and was told that is not the case. If a store has papers left you can purchase them. Went the next day to dollar tree got 2 papers, No problem! Have never had this problem before. Will not shop at this store again. They also have a problem letting you use coupons, it always seems as though the coupons won't scan. Manager name was Jenny.
stores dirty and shelves empty!!!
AT 3175 EMPLOYEE was more into talking to the other clerk and not paying attention to checking out his customer as he scan my stuff. As he scan he just shoved articles in one bag and never engaged with his customer. I did tell the cashier he was ruin by turning his back to me and ignoring me. The other stores in addition to this one was in bad shape.. The shelves were not stocked and not recovered from the day before. Items were on shelves that didn't belong there and the floors nasty, look like they hadn't been mopped in several days. Clerks dress code was all black, some shirts had football teams on them and some were just not up to code for DG RULES. Ladies blouses were cut low and showing things not all customers want to see. The isles were so full of freight that was on the floor you were unable to shop them. Could go on but I feel that I'm just wasting my time and that DOLLAR GENERAL have lost there integrity and loyalty to there customers. Sorry that this is happening to our town, but I was a employee of DG for 20 years and it hurts to watch these stores you love going in the wrong direction. Thanks for your time!
rude cashier - needs to be fired!
My complaint involves the Dollar General in Blanchard Louisiana. There is a little old lady cashier there, named Alma. Alma is rude and disrespectful to the customers there. I am not the only one that thinks that something needs to be done about this.
On Sunday, August 18th, 2016, at about 6:00 in the evening, I took my little niece to the Dollar General in Blanchard Louisiana. There was a long line there. The cashier was moving slow, and engaging in idle chit chat with the customers.
When it came my turn, I simply wanted to get in and out of there as quickly as possible, so I did not respond to any of her idle chit chat. Afterwards I left, thinking nothing of it. She did not know, however, that my little niece was standing in the line right behind me. Because as soon as I went out the door, she threw a hissy fit, and started bad mouthing me. My little niece said that she was very rude and disrespectful, both to me AND to her.
Then when I took my little niece home, I discovered that nobody was surprised, because they had all had encounters with Alma before. Alma has a MOUTH on her, and consistently uses this mouth to talk badly, about whoever she feels like bad mouthing, whenever someone comes into your store.
And another thing? That store is supposed to be a BUSINESS - NOT Alma's little social club. The time that she spends in idle chit chat, makes things take TWICE as long as it would otherwise, and she was slow to BEGIN with. She becomes even slower, when she spends her time talking about absolutely nothing - or at least nothing that is related to the business.
In my opinion, this is a little old lady that needs to be in a RETIREMENT HOME somewhere, and the job that she is working should be given to a younger, more productive person. She does NOT need to be working at Dollar General. People have plans. People have things to do. They do NOT want to be standing in a long line, listening to some little old lady ask about somebody's grandchildren. NOR do they want to listen to her rude and disrespectful MOUTH.
It is your call, but I would get rid of this employee.
She is making you people LOOK BAD!
Sincerely,
David Potter
Accurate
This is accurate and true to the best of my knowledge.
I am one of those so-called little old ladies and I guarantee I can and do run circles around many of my co-cashiers that are on a birth certificate, a lot younger. I work for the largest retailer currently in the world and will soon be in a asst mgmt position with Dollar General. I agree with the complainer about too much chatter when there is a line. I chat with many of my customers ONLY while I am bagging their items and waiting for them to pay. Then it is "thank you" smile and "next". Customers say they come to my line when possible because they know I will be friendly but keep my line moving. I deal with the occasional extremely rude customer by simply a "hello" and "thank you" smile and "next"- no other chat- just active listening. If the cashier in LA did talk to another customer regarding the previous customer- yes, I agree. That is totally wrong and where I presently am employed- would not be tolerated. There is a way to control the line without seeming rude or uncaring about the customer. I do hope that the complainer that refers to another as "this old lady" is never in my line in Tennessee. Calling me an old lady would probably result in making me break out laughing and then "thank you", smile, and NEXT (while trying not to continue to laugh.)!
You talk about this old lady being ride, but your entire rant comes off as aggressive and hateful. I wonder who the rude one really is, and what example you get for your niece ignoring someone who says hello to you as though they are not worthy of your time. It would have taken you two seconds to say hey. This old lady may not have anyone alive in her life except her customers. How arrogant of you to be so hateful.
inhumane treatment to a very sick person
My client was in your store got sick and asked for a chair so she could sit down was refused. She is obvious very sick with no hair chemo pt. The manager and cashier refuse her. The manager was a black woman don't know her name. I plan to boycott your store in catalina az. I have never. R heard of such treatment.
What do you mean refused? They probably did not have a chair available. In my opinion, if your friend is that sick from chemo, perhaps she should start taking a chair with her. You can get a light weight camping chair at Walmart for $10.
harassment at the morgantown wv dollar general store on high street
I have been a long time customer at this particular Dollar General n my home town Morgantown West virginia on high street. I have never had any issues with anyone at this store until a few months back new Employee's started working at this store A few months back including the manager and employees has been participating in harassing me while I am in the store. here is the thing every time lately when I have walked into the store I have noticed the same employees with the same pretending fake welcoming attitude while in front of my face as I am walking through this store I am always noticing employees including the manager gathering together mind you there are customers around who can hear them and notice them as I do! talking negative about me spreading rumors and keeping them a live for each employee that has not heard what they have are saying about me yet. I've been treated this way each time I come back to the store for months. I am very aware of what they are doing and gossiping a bout not to mention when I have been in the store I've noticed changes to certain employees who was polite and welcoming at first until other employees get to them next. the friendly vibes aren't the same. I've noticed them laughing at me whispering giggling to one in other sometimes right in my face when I am checking out or I am being treated very rudely by giving me dirty looks or they are walking away from my direction laughing.. To be honest I first noticed these reactions with the female employees then I noticed shorty weeks after the males started acting the same way. I know what is happening here they are bringing a rumor about me from the street into the store. This rumor has been happening to me for a long time In Morgantown because of my ex Fiance spreading lies about me through out our town and it blew up to be this huge thing everyone seems to believe sadly who doesn't know who I am very well our tome is little and every one talks. This rumor is directed on my sexual orientation the rumor is I am a cross dresser I have been through this for years since my break up. the thing is the rumor is under false pre tense since I am a cute girl I believe people keep it going to break me. I am not one to judge anyone for who they are but for them to do this to me in a store they work at is very immature and hurtful and to be honest I don't think its any of there business to spread these accusations among one in other. If they are doing these things to me I just wonder if they do it to other customers a swell because it looks real bad on the stores business I mean if these employees is going to work in a store they should be prepared to be dealing with all walk of human life coming into the store regardless and be respectful to the customers and the store Instead of pushing them out the door they should be trying to bring customers back in and feel welcomed. with their behavior not many people will want to deal with that type of drama or the baggage because I will say I have left that store very annoyed and have had to talk myself into even returning to it I am just that fed up with the drama I am not one for drama or hear say he said she said that is petty drama I don't deal with usually to make it even more immature what they are doing and saying they can't confirm it I don't know anyone in the store personally they don't know me other than what they hear obviously. lately I have switched up on where I shop I've been doing most of my shopping at cvs or sheets because those company's has legit polite employees who does not harass me or try to Assassinate my character or try to define who I am through what they might have heard. nothing the Dg employees can define who I am. I know enough to be able to see that someone one in that store had to be envy and heard this rumor then went for it I think I know the two girls who are doing it I don't know their names but they were the ones who I saw beginning this drama. hopefully this issue will be resolved so I can return and shop in peace because I do like the store its self its just the people who work there make it look bad. this store needs help thank you
Wine Is Good... What a dumb question. It doesn't matter if they like her or not, she shouldn't be treated like that when she goes into that store.
What did you do to make them hate you?
harassment by employees at morgantown wv dollar general on high street
I have been a long time customer at this particular dollar general in my home town morgantown west Virginia dollar general on high st for a long time and I've never had the problem I am having in the store now until new employees started working inside the store a few months back including the manager in fact the manager is participateing in the harassment with the employees. Here is the thing as soon as I walk into the store I have noticed the same employees with the same fake pretending welcoming smile as I am going through the store I am noticing the employees including the manager gathering together in the store in front of other customers talking about me its not hard not to notice it I've been very aware of it for a couple months now. At first impression Ignored it then later on coming back into the store I've noticed a change in certain employees attitudes that use to be more friendly and welcoming to laughing at me while I am in line staring at me in ways that feel very uncomfortable and there has been occasions where I've been laughed at in my face or just treated extremely shady and rudely. I first noticed it with certain females who work in the store then I noticed it going further with the males. I know what's happening the employees rumors about me amongst each other in the store from what they have heard about me outside the store on the streets.. Its directed on my sexual orientation there has been rumors going around my town that I am a male dressed like a female I have delt with this half my life in this town. Here is a another thing these rumors aren't exactly true. Personally I feel like even if they were is it any of their business to spread these accusations amongst one in other until it turns into a big thing. I mean if they are doing this to me under false pretense what are they doing to other customers because with that sorta immature behavior going on I am sure I am not the only individual they are harassing or discriminatory against or gossiping about. Personally its bad for business with that sorta behavior that just chases good customers out the door and not wanting to come back to deal with that type of negative vibes or the drama. Working in any store these employees need to be prepared for all walks of human life to come in and shop in general. if they can't then they should reconsider working in stores or around the public because other wise many customers will feel they are being pushed out the door or just won't want to return. I myself have slowed down shopping at dollar general as mush as I use to because I've left the store upset annoyed and frustrated by the acts I've described. I have started shopping at CVS or sheets if I need certain items more now because in them stores the employees are more matured and doesn't go out of their ways to assanate my character. What the DG employees are doing talking about things they can't even confirm other than he said she said. I don't know any of them personally out side of the store but I know enough to know they are filled with some type of jealousy or just plain out drama that I won't deal with. I hope things will change in positive was in this particular store because it needs help.. Thank you..
