unprofessional management
To whom it may concern:
I am writing this to alert you to the unprofessional behavior that I was subjected to as an associate of your store #2260, Located in Ravenna, OH. This is the way I have chosen to contact you, as to have a paper record of the information I am giving you, and felt a phone call to the ERC was not going to receive an adequate response.
Just a little background first. I have been employed at that store since mid-September, so this has not been a long career with Dollar General. It has not taken me long to gain this list of inappropriate behavior by management.
-I have NEVER been written up for attendance in my almost 25 years of employment.
+I am not going to start at this point in my life, with a manager who changes the schedule ONE day ahead of the work day, with ABSOLUTELY no notice.
+When a fellow associate called off work for several days, the store manager, Tina, was in the store later that day rewriting the schedule. When I notified the store manager on 11/3/14 at 6:03pm, that I would not be able to be at work on 11/7/14, I received no response until Wednesday, 11/5/14 when I arrived at work, and I stated once again that I COULD NOT be there.
+Tina (store manager) seems to write her own schedule, leaving early, as well as habitually arriving late. Tina even gave a resident who lives next to the store her cell phone number, to help Tina not leave the store closed for 2 hours out of the business day (which I've witnessed myself), or leave a vendor rep (Coke) sitting outside the store for hours, instead of delivering product.
-Tina is "not by the book", unless it suits her own needs.
+On 11/8/14, I was told to take a half-hour mealbreak around 1:00 when I was scheduled to leave at 2:00, and thought it best to work straight through, as I was getting work accomplished. Her reply was, "The store is only budgeted so many hours each week."
+On 11/13/14 Tina was late as usual, and requested I drop off the deposit, as I was already late leaving at the end of my shift. I informed her that the bank was in the opposite direction of my home. She then stated, "Call me after you've dropped the deposit, and I'll clock you out."
-What happened to, "The store is only budgeted so many hours each week"? Also, clocking another associate out IS a violation of company policy.
+Tina and Loss Prevention: When Tina notices anything having to do with theft, you can be assured that absolutely nothing else will be accomplished by her in the store.
+I would assume that she's not intentionally trying to get Dollar General sued, but asking a young black customer to "lift his shirt" to make sure he's not hiding anything (which she has done), is going to open the door to litigation.
-On 11/15/14 I arrived early for my 2:00pm shift. Tina said, "I need to talk to you before you punch in." She told me, "Ed (District manager) told me I have to write you up for your no-call, no-show." I assumed a 4 day notice was adequate for the family emergency.
+On 11/15/14 Tina also informed me that I "was late for my shift" and she already "found someone else to fill it". I was not late for my 2:00 shift, I was early. Apparently she had changed it to 1:00 without notifying me. Walking past it on the way out, there was nothing on the communication board stating "schedule change". I have a photo of the schedule in my phone which I look at daily. Without her posting that the schedule was changed, or mentioning it to me via text, email, verbally, or any other way, how would I know that the published schedule had been changed?
-I left a voicemail with Ed Tishel (district manager) at [protected] on 11/15/2014 at 2:15pm to discuss the issue with him, but have not heard from him as of yet.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I also have photographed records of many of the items mentioned above. In the case that this message has been misdirected, please forward to the appropriate party.
Thank you,

So after my complaint about an employee telling my fiance to tell me hi from her. I had to get something from the store. Walk in and an employee kept walking by and looking at me while I eas looking for what I needed. When I entered the store the employee was throwing and slamming things that were in boxes. She walks up ask my name. Asked is there was a problem and so on. I said no i'm shopping and don't want to talk which she kept on about if I needed anything to tell her. Well I didn't say anything when I walked in. So I don't understand why after shopping at this store for over a year now the manager comes up and asking me questions. Which I didn't recognize her with her dark hair. And no nametag or anything saying she worked there. I have a life. I complain but do not comment on others complaints. I have worked for over 30 years and never was disrespectful to anyone.
The corporate office is handling the matters. We will no longer shop at this store though. Too many issues can not be resolved.
no way to name an employee
I have complained before about the employees at this store. And now my fiance tells me that yesterday around 5pm a female employee with dark hair about 200 pounds or maybe less and no name tag told my fiance to tell your girl friend I said Hi. I have no idea who this person is. My fiance had just gotten off a very busy day at his job and this person he said...

The company advertisement for the week of sept 29th to oct 4th. Stated Scotts paper towel $5.00 with a 1.50 dg digital coupon. I it was not available oct 1 and when I went to the store today Oct 4th, the last day of the sale and now the coupon is there. It does not register. Another word it's on my account to use but when I put my phone number in it did not take the coupon off and that was not the only coupon. The employees informed me after the purchase that they have been having trouble all day. This is False advertisement. I did not receive my coupon on, Flipz $1.00 and Angle soft $1.00 and Scott paper towel $1.50 and Gillette $1.00. And no help from the employee. And the coke was advertised for 3 for 3.00 was none.

Dollar general digital coupons are great when they work. They suck when they don’t. Queen City mo store is absolutely outstanding and understanding.
apperance of store
Everytime I go in this store it is always dishelveled and unorganized. It is never well stocked and boxes of stock are always blocking aisles and merchandise and employees are usually chatting amongst themselves. I go there out of convenience as it is close to my house but am considering driving to another one. I like the DG but this store really needs some improvement!
I happen to work at a dollar General. What is happening is that Dollar General is a horrible place to work in a since that the company does not seem to care about these issues. What happens is Dollar General only allows the full time managers to work in the day, in the day it is just them stocking. The managers are always pulled to the front to remove items off the register costumers says they now do not want, refunds, and various task. This leaves little time to stock. The cashier has no time to learn anything because they are stuck behind the counter for the whole shift. After four o'clock in the evening there is only two people running the whole store despite it needs about four people at the least to properly continuing to stock and help people. This company expects this store to run off a skeleton crew and it s not right! I worked the other night at 3:00 pm to 10:15PM. I was on the register all night but what made it worse was that it was mothers day. We had twenty people in line at one register and twenty in line at another. Now mind you one register there is an assistant manager and they need to do other work besides cashier. All night it was hell! I had to listen to people , cuss me out, decide they don't want $50 worth of items. All of these cause them manager to shut down their register to take complaint and remove items out of the register so that I could ring things up again. Having no helps creates a situation where errors are inevitable. If a cashier or manager is short on their register they get wrote up. If it happens again they are forced to put their own money in the register so that they won't get fired because the company has a two strike rule! This kind of bad CEO management does not help the company and they do not seem to care about their customers or employees. Now if all this is not enough employees are suppose to pick up the mess people leave and let their children destroy. Mop the floors and keep the store clean. This is why the stores are filthy and disgusting. Nothing can ever be finished with always a small crew like we have. Then there is an unspoken or spoken sometimes rule that if we work off the clock we will appease management and have a better chance of moving up due to "eagerness" to work! Insane way to run a company right?
Hit or Miss - Rancid Product
I have been buying the Clover Valley Sunflower Kernels for some time now. The problem is I have to buy several jars at once to make sure I have a good one. It seems like every second or third jar I buy is rancid. I have thrown several jars away thinking it's only $1.50 but after about 10 jars pitched I realized how it adds up. I have since exchanged some, I love the product when it is good but I'm mystified how the same product with the same dates on the jars can sometimes be good and sometimes be rancid. Please look into this as I love the product and want to keep enjoying it.

wc claim issues
I work for DG and I recently got hurt at work.My manager asked if my hand was broken and when I said no, he told me to get back to work.
I contacted Risk Management because my hand was much worse the next day. They instructed me to go to the ER within two hours. I went even though my manager tried to get me not to. The hospital tried to contact him to file WC but he told them he refused to talk to them.
Luckily, the hospital went around him and managed the get the info anyway. I called HR to file a complaint against him and it turns out he never even reported my injury like he is REQUIRED to do. I am currently looking into getting a WC attorney unless by some miracle this works out.
If it doesn't, I will be filing a legal case against DG.

I am a former employee, I have left dollar general due to management harrassment, slandering my good name, and calling me a thief with no proof to back it up. The Manager TMS is awful, unproffessional, breaking rules, and regulations and thinks she is god. She pays people off the clock to work. The DM is no better, having a relationship with another manager and giving her special treatment. He's married and creepy. If anyone ever wants to work there please don't. I don't understand how they keep getting away with this. I have proof of notes written by the manager that is harrassment and recorded audio of conversations that she has had with other employees clearly harrassing them, bullying them. I will keep complaining to every website I can find until something is done or employees of this awful company pull together and get this stopped.

I recently bought six cans of Clover Valley Cherry Pie Filling. While pouring the filling into the pie plate, there was much more syrup than cherries. I counted the cherries in all six cans. There were 45-49 cherries in each can. Some of the cherries were only pieces of a cherry. I had to use all six cans to make two 8-inch cherry pies. I skimmed off the excess syrup and had 8 cups of syrup. WHAT A RIP-OFF. I guess the sign on the can was correct - cherry pie "filling". 100% Happy guaranteed! - NOT !

refunds
my father and my daughter went to the store on july 26, 2014 and payed for our groceries with my food stamp card that had a balance of more than 100.00 when they got to the register to pay the total was 83.90 they swiped the card and the cashier said it didnt go through and had him swipe it again and then she said there was only 29.13 on the card so he payed the remaining balance of 58.34 with cash. So i called the card and it said it had took the 83.90 off and then took the 29.13 so i went back to the store and explained to the manager and they appologized and said i was not the only one that it has happened to and they refunded me the 58.34 cash and said they put the 29.13 back on my card and it never came on ther so i went back they done it again and it still never went on my card and now they say by their records they have give it to me twice and they have never refunded it to me at all. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS THEY SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO DO THAT AND TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THEY ARE LYING!

I was employed from january 3011 - october 2013 with dollar general as an assistant manager during theat time I faced sexual harassment from both my immediate store manager and district manager. I was the first and only black male to work as a manager for store 4036. I complained to my regional manager but nothing was ever done. During this entire term of employment I had a stellar record, I had never took off a day from work, never was late, never had a write up. When it came time for the store manager to resign I was next in line for the position. I left on vacation to see my wife in illinois, I took a couple of extra days because I was trying to help her with moving with me in ms. When I returned my district manager fired me stating excess days off. We had several white employees that had chronic absenteeism with and without calling in, yet no one other than myself was ever fired for that reason.
I was replaced by a white woman manager from a neighboring town, it just so happens that she lived in the same town as our store but had been driving 30 miles to the store she worked at. It seems a clear cut move to remove me but without developing a track record of any wrong doing on my behalf.
disgruntled employee
I visited the Dollar General store #04895 in Willacoochie GA as I do several times a week every week. They have this employee working there that always seems to have a sort of sour attitude. Today though she was especially rude. While I realize she was
busy checking in new products from the pepsi or coke vendor she shouted at me and the two other customers that were standing behind me patiently waiting for assistance. Once she did make it to the register she starting scanning then throwing my purchases into a bag with haste, then when she saw that I was paying with a check she snatched it from my hand. I politely gave her all of the information that she needed and again with haste she entered it into the system. Due to her making a mistake upon entering my information my check was declined and she shouted it for all of the other customers to hear, which was pretty embarrassing since I own and operate a pretty prominent business in this community. She then handed me back my check and when I offered to pay cash for part of my purchase she stated she "didn't have time for this c***." As embarrassed as I was I just walked out. The vendor even made a comment about her attitude as I was leaving. I have instructed all of my employees and a few other acquaintances from our church not to shop at this store any more until something was done with woman. I was enamored at the responses I
got in reference to how she has treated so many this same exact way.
You are building a brand new store down the street from this location. We are really glad. However, the store you currently have open if always dirty, and merchandise is always stacked in isles waiting to be put out. Can't even get around in the store. It seems like the employees don't even care. I strongly hope this new store is better. I stopped shopping at your store because of these problems.
work for them, hate it
I work for dg store #12169 and I absolutely hate it! They treat you like ### there especially the district manager and all the key holders for that store dg human resources won't do anything because there to corrupt to do the right thing they say it would be "discrimination" but, they all discriminate to me because I am from a metropolitan city and moved to a small country town out in the middle of nowhere. Everybody please complain to dollar general corporate for the stores mistreatment of employees!

I have never worked for Dollar General BUT I have seen how bad they are to their very good managers. They worked the one we had in Kermit, Tx. Until she left do to their demands. It was such a great store, with shelves full and every thing looked clean and neat. Now it has empty shelves, workers very rude. At night they close early they say get out! It is also looking nasty, we won't be going back until the management is gone. Never mind we always went there sense they opened. So now our shopping is done at Family Dollar and Alco..
"IF" your wife is missing hours, then SHE needs to call the states local labor board.
Also, my Wife is a "Lead Sales Associate" for DG and has her own M.O.D.# (Manager On Duty #) but yet my Wife has a regular "Sales Associate" Working over her as M.O.D. on Closing Shifts and is forced by the Store Manager to give her own M.O.D. to the Regular "Sales associate" to use for Vendor Purposes, etc.. That is VERY Wrong Doing because if that "Sales Associate" does anything wrong (loses money etc etc) it would come back on my wife by Corporate Management.. She also works in a DG Store that Does NOT have A/C, it gets 10 - 20 degrees Hotter inside that Store than outside.
My Wife has Videos of several "Wrong Doings"!
There is also Personal Customer Checks that goes "Missing" and the Manager FORCES my Wife to Pay for the Check in Cash, Out of Pocket, Under the Table or is threatend to be "Wrote Up" and "Fired".. And we have Proof...
Yes! You are 100% Correct! My Wife works for DG. She is treated like [censored] by her Employer. And for the people saying "jus seek employment elsewhere", need to STFU! Its NOT that easy! A LOT of DG Stores are Corrupt! Piss Poor Management in 90% of DG Stores...AND they Screw Employees on Pay Roll. EVERY Week my wife is missing an Hour or so off her Check and has to stand on her head to be Paid Back and then it takes a Week or 2 to see it Paid...
this is simple to solve, seek other employment.
I win the survey but I never receive the money
I for months do the dollars general survey and recently I win the survey.. They call me and told me to wait for some papers at the mail and after I sign send them back and then im gonna receive the check for $1000 at the mail.. Since then i'm waiting and waiting 3 months pass by and nothing i'm keeping calling and they told me to wait.. After 2 months again I call and now they tell me to keep playing to win.. I was playing for more than a year for this.. I'm so disappointed right now.. My question is this is a scam really. Why treat people like that. Its not fair or maybe because i'm hispanic. Can anyone answer this please. That money it was for my mom to buy a new bed for her. I was so happy when they told me I win and now I dont know anymore.. Please someone told me..
manager sherol
April 12th I was in Store #03160 and there were 3 boys who wanted to purchase some items and they got out their money which was about $4.00 in mostly pennies. The manager refused to take their money because the pennies weren't wrapped she said. Customers in line started telling her she was refusing a sale and it is cash tender and she can't do that. The boys not knowing left with their pennies. Then when customers complained her excuse was she didn't have any place to store them. I told her that wasn't the boys problem that was her problem. I went outside and asked the boys for their pennies and was going to give them the money. A man who also told the manager that it wasn't right took their pennies and gave them the $4.00. I will go in there with pennies when I want to buy something. She refuses sales for your company. What is that telling the boys it's easier to steal it than deal with the manager. I told them to never let anyone refuse to take their money again in any store. If nothing is done about this and this manager, I will report this to the better business bureau. Karen O'Neill Please call me and let me know that this has been addressed with this manager at this store. Thank you
There is a common misconception that a business has to take your money. They don't. A business has a right to refuse service to anyone so long as it is not based on a Federally protected group (elderly, disability, race, religion, etc). The woman refused service based on the fact that the coins were inconvenient for her. That is her right - as it is your right to complain about the business. In the end, don't shop there if you don't like their service.
If I get poor business I get justice I don't give a care
Of course it's bad business! It also tells just what kind of manager this person is. The manager should have told the boys that she would be happy to take their money at the other register and told the cashier to keep the line going. As she handed the boys their purchases, she should have THANKED them for spending their savings at the DG. This is the kind of experience that helps children understand the benefits of not only saving money, but also the whole spending process--preferably ending with a positive experience. Yes, the parents should have exchanged the pennies. However, In this day and time we are unable to count on parents for every little thing and, unfortunately, for many big things.
I don't know what it is about DG, but a horrible incident at a DG yesterday is what brought me to this sight today. I am hoping to get some insight into why this happened to me. Does anyone know why a cashier would scream "disrespect" because I put my money on the counter as I counted it out instead of putting it in her hand? I swear that I was so intent on getting money out of my wallet and making sure I had the correct amount I wasn't paying attention to anything else. As it was, a $20 bill fell out of my folded money when I first got it out--I'm sure you get the picture. She said I saw her hand out and it was disrespect. It got so bad that she told me my mother didn't raise me right (I'm 65 years old) 'called me the "B" word that ends in "itch"and got 3 other customers involved that were behind me in line. One of them said it was racial and another said that I just didn't want to touch her. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was just trying to get the right amount of money out of my wallet. When I finally looked up, I realized her hand was out. I just thought she wasn't paying attention or that she possibly thought I was taking too much time. After laying the money down on the counter, I visually counted it again, looked up at her and seeing her hand out, I told her it was the correct amount. It was at that moment that I realized that something was wrong. She placed my bag to the right, took the money off of the counter and said nothing. I stood there for a minute trying to decide whether to ask her what was wrong, then picked up my bag and walked to the door. It was at that moment that she lost it. I'm still clueless about the disrespect issue, but I'm also still very upset about the whole thing. Yes, I did have her call the person in charge (asst mang). The asst mang said she was in the back, so all she could do was report it to the manager the next day and the manager would watch the store tape. However, the asst mang did hear her call me the "B" word. She told the cashier to be careful, but said nothing to me. I gave her my number and asked her to ask the manager to call me after viewing the tape. So far, I've heard nothing from her.
It is poor business because they were refusing to take legal tender, simply out of laziness. And Redhatter, what bank do you go to that doesn't take legal tender? Their central bank created it, they're obligated to take it.
Anyone who refuses pennies off of a little boy is cruel
Anyone who refuses pennies off of a little boy is cruel and should roast in hell
if customers in line wanted to help, why didn't they take the pennies and pay the boys?
Yes karen you need to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, I've filed many complaints with them it's your right to do so.
