hatinsanity - damaged
I ordered a hat ($45.) through Etsy- the company selling the hat was called HatInsanity. After I ordered the hat, I saw that it was coming from Hong Kong. When it arrived, even though the box said "fragile" it was smashed quite a bit and torn open on one corner. The hat had a crease in the top from the box being damaged. The was no receipt or anything in the box - can't find anyone to complain to. Buyer beware- I'll never buy anther thing through their site! I have written to PayPal to see if they have any suggestions- the hat was supposed to be a Christmas gift to my granddaughter. [protected]@msn.com
does not protect consumers - seller took money and closed account
Etsy did not stand behind their word to protect customer purchases. I complained to a seller that the product ordered did not match the image. The seller (who had hundreds of positive reviews) said she had intitated a refund, When I didn't receive a refund I tried to contact Etsy but they just sen you in a hopeless loop of dropdown menus, which indicate that you are on your way to opening a case, but go nowhere but in circles.
I have placed 2 orders with a company off there website and have not received my orders and no reply from my emails. This a lot of money spent and am not getting any where with etsy
Defective Item
Purchased a pair of cuff earrings from this shop. Earrings were defective. Seller Donna Spadafore stated she has a no refund policy even though the earrings were defective and could not be worn.
Refused to refund or allow me to return them, nor would she try to repair them as stated in her shops policies. The earrings were wired so tight that they could not be adjusted as stated by seller, no matter how hard I tried. Very Unprofessional. No Customer Service. July 2015
Shelly is a liar, con artist, and fraud, caught selling damaged furniture, dishonest dirtbag dealer
WHERE TO BEGIN...the owner of this shop is completely unethical. They ship furniture that they know is damaged and then blame everyone else. I made the mistake of agreeing to ship for this store (NEVER AGAIN). When I arrived at the store I carefully BLANKET WRAPPED the order and then sealed it with stretch wrap. The terms were to ship the piece BLANKET WRAP (SEE PICTURE FOR PROOF):
Item 1:Mid Century Dresser
Quantity:1
Description: Needs Blanket Wrap and Delivered to Apartment in Brooklyn
Dimensions: L: 5 ft 4 in. W: 1 ft 7 in. H: 2 ft 6 in.
Weight: 50 lbs
to be picked up within 7 days of our agreement on June 17th, 2015 and delivered 14 days after pickup (You can see this is July 1st so we are well within that window)
Starting yesterday we began receiving the most nasty and profane text messages threatening to shut our business down, call the cops, etc because we didn't deliver yet. Apparently Shelly can't count days very well in addition to shipping damaged furniture.
When I arrived at the delivery, I UNWRAPPED THE BLANKET/STRETCH WRAP and the customer finds a VERY small corner knicked (kinda like in the picture in the advertisement on the uship page, but I digress). Clearly, this was damage that was already there since we had so carefully wrapped this item. I was then told to cough up several hundred dollars for a mistake I did not do. I offered to have an antique dealer who fixes these things locally look at it and Shelly all of a sudden didn't think the damage was that big of a deal any more.
Then, to top it off, Shelly refused to give me the COD code for payment unless I deliver the piece of furniture to the 30th floor claiming we agreed to "WHITE GLOVE" service when we agreed to BLANKET WRAP in our agreement (can provide proof with a picture to prove what I'm saying). For those who don't know, "WHITE GLOVE" means you take a delivery all the way into an apartment for delivery and "BLANKET WRAP" means you just wrap carefully and deliver outside the residence.
1st dibs really has gone down hill if it allows vendors like Shelly on their site. Most of my jobs are repeat from vendors who are actually professional. Shelly is far from. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
You can clearly see how slick Shelly is here. She provides 4 pictures. Notice picture two shows no damage that isn't in the other pictures and picture 4 is angled in a way that you cannot see the top where the VERY MINOR damage is. WHERE IS THE "$650 IN DAMAGES"? I like how the damages went from $200 to $300 to $650. LOL, WHERE?
Also, thank you Shelly for admitting that YOU helped wrap the item in the store. That contradicts your other statement that it wasn't blanket wrapped. Try to keep your story straight. Don't forget we have pictures too.
Shelly still can't read apparently. We agreed to "BLANKET WRAP" service. Shelly, open your uship account and go to the negative feedback we left you. There is a link to our contract. Click on that and you will see we NEVER agreed to "white glove". As a courtesy, we agreed to take it to your customer's 30th floor apartment. That courtesy ended after your hostile messages about calling police.
Furthermore, I was in CONSTANT contact with your client. It really isn't smart to lie about that when I have all the phone calls and texts readily available to show.
You were unprofessional, rude, and yes, a dirtbag. You clearly tried to hustle us. No one has been so unprofessional to me in this business before. Stop treating your drivers this way. I wasn't the first you had a problem with either. I'm pretty sure I won't be your last.
"Defamation, Libel, Slander"? Be my guest.
Also, according to the California state website Alphaversa, LLC is not supposed to be doing business in California for nonpayment of taxes. This is a matter of public record.
The same shipper picked up my shipment (my entire household) in California on 6/7 and was supposed to deliver it to me in Ohio 6/13. He has never delivered it. He no showed three times and then went completely incommunicado and Uship refunded my payment to me. I had to file a theft report and after being visited by the Michigan state police he finally got in contact with me, said he had my goods and would deliver, and then didn't show up again. Net he demanded I put a money order into an account before he would show up, and when I tried to do that the bank account he'd given me was actually closed. Then he gave me someone else's name as an account and at that point I'd already left the bank and refused to deposit it into any other account. I told him I had the money order available and that he could pick it up when he delivered, but he refused and has told me he's taking my things back to California and is putting a lien on them. This was yesterday 7/29/15.
Here are the facts...
We contracted this shipper to deliver a dresser into the home of our customer in Brooklyn, NY. uShip (the shipping broker) can also verify the shipment was to be delivered INTO the home. We had to physically helped wrap the piece, which was in showroom perfect condition when it left our store, photos are attached 1, 2.
He forgot blankets so we let him use some of ours to wrap the piece. We specifically instructed him to transport the piece on its top, because the legs were fragile. He was to deliver INTO THE HOME, and also provide a certificate of insurance for the building (as required by most NYC co-op buildings) he said he would have that available, no problem. After several days of no communication from him, my customer called me and said he no-showed on them two days in a row. I contacted him via text, as he would not answer his phone and told him that he needed to contact me right away or I would file a report. After a brief conversation, he states the piece is to be delivered that day. I ask that he contact me when the job is complete and he delivers the piece into the home, I will release payment.
My customer calls me several hours later and states he is refusing to deliver the piece into the home, the item is damaged and he is demanding a payment release to him. I refuse, stating he has not completed the job and is holding my customer hostage, along with the damaged dresser. He also damaged the piece and I asked her to had the phone to him so we could speak, as he was not answering my calls. After a brief conversation and him ADMITTING that it must have 'got banged around in the truck', I asked how he wanted to handle the repair reimbursement, it was going to probably cost $400 to fix the repairs, he became very angry. See attached photos 3, 4 Pretty clear the piece was damaged in his care.
He then became combative and refused to deliver into the home. I contacted the uShip corporate office, asking for their intervention, apparently he was worried we weren't going to give the code because the damage he caused was about the same as his delivery fee, he would get nothing. I gave them permission to release the payment to him as long as it was delivered. At that point, it was a complete embarrassment to our company and my customer to argue with him in the streets, it was better that my customer is happy, we can deal with him later. He knew he damaged the dresser, and was now trying to blame us for giving him a damaged piece so he wouldn't have to pay. Finally, after several minutes on the phone, he delivers the piece, I get a call from my customer saying it was delivered. uShip releases payment code and also informs me that his account was previously suspended for future payment because he had another outstanding issue with another customer to which he has not responded.
Later that day, we reviewed our service (required by ship with any completed shipment) and give him a negative response, basically stating what was said here. He is now sending threatening emails and texts saying he will ruin our reputation and file complaints with 3 separate agencies for 3 days straight until it shows up as the top search in Google searches. At this point, we are washing our hands of this person and we have reimbursed our customer $650 for the damage to the dresser and the inconvenience and will try and recoup the money from insurance. We don't want to have anything to do with this person, he is unethical, a liar and extremely unprofessional. It was a complete nightmare. Our reputation is flawless and this guy is threatening to ruin it. It's very clear he is trying to threaten and scare us because he can't get paid by the broker because his account is suspended, not by our actions, but by his own.
Ask this question: If we were so 'unethical' 'dirtbag dealers' 'liars', etc. why do we have across the board 5 star ratings on Etsy and our own website? Why would we be one of the top 3 sellers of Mid Century furniture and accessories in the U.S? (rated by BuzzFeed in 2015). Why would we be on 1stdibs as a top rated dealer in the country?
One thing is clear, we will definitely NOT be using this person's services ever again and are contemplating legal action for defamation, libel and slander.
Suspension of shop without notice
I was selling in Etsy for 2, 5 years, with 431 sales and 44 x 5* comments. Etsy suspended my account with no reason and without any prevent. Please don't sell in Etsy, as you'll spend you time and efforts to create it. Because you'll loose it. I heard this many times. I think Etsy is cooperating with our competitors or something like that... Don't open a store in Etsy, or buy from Etsy... Etsy is a scammer !!!

1.may 2014 I paid for items through Etsy, but did not receive it from siyajewelry. 10 months I have not been able to recover the money from siyajewelry, I've sent a lot of amails, repayment bills through PayPal - all in vain. PayPal could not help me because my complaint was outside the time period.. It appears that for siyajewelry $ 53 is worth more than his own reputation.
etsy is unethical and abusive!
I had a shop on Etsy and as of yesterday it has been suspended as because they are claiming that I am somehow linked to this other Etsy shop that has been closed due to policy violation. From what I understand, based on Etsy's vague emails, this other shop has a few open cases that were opened up by angry customers before they were shut down. Etsy is saying that somehow my information (email and address) overlaps with the closed shop's account - whatever that means! So they want me to take care of the open cases before they can reinstate my account! The problem is I have no relation to that other shop! I've stated this to them numerous times already and in my last email I asked them to show me a screenshot or something so that I can see if someone has committed fraud and used my information without my knowledge. It all sounds very fishy to me and Etsy has been very, very evasive.. It is very frustrating because I am being wrongly accused of being this other person, and they have suspended my account until I can get this sorted out. They are not giving me any help whatsoever. Their customer service sucks! When they do respond, they are evasive and vague. I have lost sales, all my time and effort putting up my listings, not to mention the longer my shop is suspended my credibility with my existing customers will be shot down. I would stay away if you are looking to open a shop with them. Read the reviews online - oeople's shops get shut down for no reason! Something needs to be done. They are a fraudulent, unprofessional company that should not be allowed to practice!
closing shop without notice
I had about 50 or so orders, mailed out on May 20th and 28th all of which did not arrive I am a very successful shop and make etsy a ton of money. When I asked for assistance on the matter, my request for how I should deal with all the non-deliveries went unasnwered. I was completely overhwhelmed, a week or so later Etsy emails me saying my listings are not in the search results because of my non deliveries (which I was sending all new ones with tracking or refunding them if I couldn't remake the orders) I responded immeditatly, and asked for assistance on the matter and what they thought I should do. I emailed the same person over 15 times in 3 weeks, they suspended my shop 3 weeks later with NO explanation, and than email today saying that i have been shilling, which is when you buy from yourself to inflate sales and reviews. I was SHOCKED to see almost every single one of my recent reviews DELETED, unless it was less than 3 stars ( i had a bunch of low star reviews just because of the shipping issue.)
Etsy has made up a fake situation, and deleted my shop because of it.
I emailed in an appeal, but I will NEVER shop with etsy every again. They have the worst customer service and refused me phone support.

file complaints with attorney general etsy destroying sellers
Watch this video and pass it on explains the Etsy idiots to a T. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53Hwl6Y9UWs
This is the same story I keep on hearing. Etsy has been getting away with this for years. Now this has to stop and the only way to hurt them is make the Attorney General in their state make them comply to have a real telephone customer service team. Bombard the internet and get the Attorney General in your state and in New York to make Etsy comply or shut them down. This company has no telephone service they have thousands of sellers who my law have have the rights to speak to a real person about their livelihood. This company is even acting like a bank where they have their own payment processing and still no telephone customer team where you can ask a question about YOUR business. Something sounds very fishy all the stories from sellers Etsy has damaged without a moments thought the so called integrity team asking for the in's and out's of a sellers business and then still giving them the big heave ho when all the information has been given.
I have had the unfortunate dealings with Eliza on Etsy and I totally understand that these people are incompetent, rude, arrogant and ignorant however the lack of customer service must be coming from the top otherwise this person would not have been allowed to address me the way she did without being reprimanded. I have a right as a customer to speak to a real person and for them to explain what is happening and how to resolve it. But all you get is a email answered whenever they feel like it and a person who is demeaning and not their to help you in any shape or form and not only that puts barriers in the way and makes it hard as possible for you.
Bombard the Attorney General and ask him why he is letting this Multi Million company in his jurisdiction get away with such bad business practices. File in your state with also with your Attorney General and tell people that this is happening. Name and shame that is the only way these faceless corporations ever learn by denting their pockets. Etsy your time is coming and I will laugh my ### off when you cowards have to face your customers with no more hiding behind your computer screens. What you have been doing to sellers for years is disgusting you want to keep the handmade facade because it is a good money spinner and good PR but behind the scenes you have been callously destroying the very people that put you in business. Biting the hand that feeds you because of your greed. We will expose you for what you are Etsy.

doing business there reminds me of being in high school
There are many talented artists on Etsy but also tons of resellers who make the front page every day. Big sellers bully smaller sellers and get away with it regularly. I've had both good and bad experiences buying and selling there. Bottom line, get your own website if you are a seller. Etsy owns their site and your store. NOT you. I don't know why sellers don't understand this. As a buyer, I would rather deal directly with a business on their own website and not have to give Etsy any of my money. Tons of sellers copy each other and accuse each other of doing. The sellers sound petty every time you visit the forums. Doing business there reminds me of being in high school.
never ever would I recommend this website to anyone
I just read a couple of the reviews on here and I can't believe there are people from Etsy commenting on peoples bad reviews trying to defend themselves! That right there should show you what kind of site they run! Anyway, my experience. My friend ordered customized bracalets from here for me for my birthday, it was supposed to say something to the effect of best friends and it was two bracalets that when connected spelled that out...simple right? WRONG. They stamped a t where there was supposed to be an i and then just dotted it...okay, so I get it they made a mistake, but then my friend let her know about it and asked her to just send a new half...she recieves the new half, GUESS WHAT, THEY DIDN'T EVEN FLIPPIN LINE UP! ISNT THAT THE POINT OF A FRIENDSHIP BRACALET? My friend then emailed Etsy a THIRD time saying hey I'll give you another try ya know make a whole new one and ill send you back these and do you know what they responded to her? They told her no they wont try again told her to send back the bracalets and they would refund her full price! THEY WERENT EVEN LIKE SURE WE WILL FIX THAT FOR YOU AND REFUND OR SURE WE WILL TRY A THIRD TIME TO KEEP YOU A CUSTOMER, they straight told her to send it back and they will refund. Are you FU*KING KIDDING ME! NOW IM WITHOUT A BIRTHDAY PRESENT THAT I LOVED BECAUSE OF THIS POS BUSINESS!
NEVER EVER EVER WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS WEBSITE TO ANYONE EVER!
the company never initiated any contact to inform us they were behind schedule
My wife ordered: Alphabet Set -Wooden Letters -Alphabet Wall-ABC Wall- Unfinished 12" to 6" letters various thicknesses from aworkinprogress off Etsy.com. The product was promised to be shipped no later than 10 weeks upon purchase. The company NEVER initiated any contact to inform us they were behind schedule. It has been 23 weeks since the purchase was made. Each time we asked about it we were told another 4 weeks or another 2 weeks. Needless to say the third time we again had to contact them and were pushed back even further. At this time, we canceled our order and requested a refund. Sherri the owner of the company was rude, and unprofessional, in one email she told my wife “to get a life”, Every time we contacted her she was rude and made excuses as to why they didn’t have our order ready. They are not only way over priced, but you may not ever receive your purchase. If you like this product it would be in your best interest to find a more reasonable vendor! They are sold at Michaels for a reasonable price!

I ordered a set of unfinished letters too. It has been a year since I placed that order. Sherri has been avoiding my emails and says that she still plans to send them some day. I live in Australia and have no means as to how to file any sort of complaint or even follow up with anything else. Very unprofessional of Bob and Sherri. I get the feeling that I just funded their lifestyle and will never be receiving anything in the mail. I paid nearly $200 for it and will never see that money again!
they don't even have a phone number to call if you need help
I've been selling on etsy for about a year, have over 3000 sales 100% positive feedback. I didn't realize I have a few items (about 8 out of my 400 listings) have infringment problems! Without warning, my shop was shut down. emails or convo take 3 to 5 days for them to reply and it is short and copy directly from their "DO and DON'T" which is sometimes hard to understand. They don't even have a phone number to call if you need help. Even ebay has a customers service hotline. When I try to ask advice in the forum, they shut me down immediately! Horrible service!
I have had Etsy for over 4 years. If you don't own a picture of someone (celebrity, Disney character) and you try to use it in your shop, you know you are doing wrong. The Do's and Don'ts are very clear. You agree to them when you sign up. You got caught and them shutting down your store is the result.
zero seller support from etsy itself
Zero seller support from Etsy itself. They shut down our shop over a $6 discrepancy without any notification and refuse to respond to emails begging for an appeal. No info, no response, they just ignore us completely. We were top sellers last year, and they don't seem to care about the profit loss for their company or the fact that we may be on the street in a month because they completely eliminated our sole source of income. How nice is that? This is a pretty common story, apparently.
This site needs more restrictions
This site needs more restrictions. I bought clothing off Thaisaket several months back, they lied about shipping from the USA, I needed the clothing for a gift. I left a negative, The shop owner was rude and threatening about me taking it back. They accused me of not liking Asians. Etsy didn't seem to care after I complained to them. They said I had to work...

I have perfect feedback over three years at Etsy. I recently was in a transaction which ended in dishonest billing, fraud, extortion, and ongoing harrassment online. I have reached out to Etsy Trust every week for three weeks---and they send the same form Email every time. "we are looking into this matter but can't tell you anything". The Trust and Safety of every buyer is at stake from the shop I dealt with and Etsy has done nothing to move in on the seller to examine the hard, printable, paper evidence I have provided ETsy Admin. They do not answer phones, and they have nothing new to say. It's embarrassing.
I was involved in a scam by a "store" (lespierevintage) in France. Person admitted repeatedly she found the only box laying around and put a 100 year old statue in said box, It rolled around over the big ocean and arrived to me in so many pieces it was a total disaster. When I told the seller I wanted a full refund they first agreed then changed their minds. They repeatedly admitted it was the only box they could find and they knew it was too big but they no longer had my money to refund me! Etsy "Trust and Safey" was a TRUE NIGHTMARE. Total crooks. I showed them pictures of the box with the item in it, took screen shots of the sellers admittance to the shotty packaging, and they still sided with the seller. They said all she had to do was provide proof she mailed it to me. That was it she was off the hook. THe only way to get my money back was to ship item back and spend 73.00 more bucks non refundable. INSANE. paypal didn't help me get all my money but got a good portion. I had to file complaint with my CC company. Bottom line here, trust and safety was a joke. They don't answer phones, take days to answer emails, side with crooked people. There are no code of ethics here people. I would LOVE to see this site shut down, I am closing my account and won't be back ever. Ebay is the way to go.
PLEASE other shop owners! This is happening to many of us! You must start to speak up! This company has a net worth of $600 million, and $950 million in sales. There's only one reason for their unethical practices - it's done on purpose.

DO SOMETHING!
It happened to me, crippling my livelihood, within a week. Even the fine print is vague. REPORT WHAT THEY'VE DONE, and more importantly, if you ARE considering opening a shop on Etsy, HEED the warnings. Do your research. DON'T DO IT!
Grow up etsy admin. And start behaving like professional adults
There are random, unpredictable rules being applied, sometimes with dire consequences, creating an extremely tense and stressful atmosphere. A jealous competitor can report your items on whim causing admin to close your shop and ban you from the site without warning. There is rampant copyright infringement by handmade sellers going on all over the site but...
Read full review of Etsy and 9 commentsavoid this website at all costs
The etsy website suckers people who cannot sell effectively on ebay by using the 'artists' ebay idea. They charge you small amounts to tell you they will advertise for you while showing you no proof.
If you violate their very vague TOS they will shut down your entire store, even if you have 100 items in the store and only one was in violation. They clarify all the vague nonsense in their poorly written TOS by informing you that they can shut down your store for ANY reason at their descretion. Any. Their words.
If they remove your storefront for ANY reason you will be responsible for all relisting fees and for all lost monies invested into advertisement and reclaiming your store is no easy task.
Example: if you sell 100 rings, and one of those violates TOS then they remove your entire store. In order to get it back you must email or call them and go through their process which is inept and tedious. Then you must actually ask them to return YOUR store as well as explain why you deserve it back, lol. I have to laugh at that I'm so so sorry. Then you must relist the other 99 rings, paying the etsy.com thieves twice for the item to list.
There is NO to LITTLE consumer security and every transaction is an at-risk transaction. Every single one.
Buyers and sellers have no idea they are placing their monies and lives into the hands of some people who cannot effectively maintain security on their site NOR handle the amount of artist traffic therefore not supplying promises regardless if consumers have PAID.
Overall...go back to eBay. At least, though overpriced, they are secure, professional and trustworthy.
...in my opinion.
and yet, every person probably goes right back to selling there if it gets reinstated. So they keep on pulling this nonsense and destroying lives.
I have been an avid shopper of ETSY for some time now. NEVER had a problem with the vendors...until today.
My conversation with the CinLyn Boutique was NASTY, This person spoke to me as if I were a child..(I am 68). I was in the Fashion
Business for MANY MANY YEARS and would NEVER have addressed a customer in that way !
Please read the conversation and lget back to me with some type of resolve...Thank you

I am an avid online shopper and keep trying out various shopping sites. I ordered two items with etsy. The one which was delivered had little similarity with the one posted in the website and the second item never got delivered. I mailed both the seller and etsy but neither of them replied or refunded my payment. Very disappointing. I now have discovered another very good similar shopping site itshandicraft.com. I have bought a few things and am satisfied with the quality. Very affordable prices too.
prior to etsy closing my store with no warning
I am a former seller on Etsy...very successful and longtime seller, I might add. I had 100% feedback from all of my customers! I went to check my messages one morning, only to discover my Etsy Shop was gone! I went into my email to see if I had missed something only to find a very generic message from Etsy stating they closed my shop. No reason included in this message! Prior to closing my store, I had received NO WARNING, NO COMPLAINTS & NO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK! I immediately emailed Etsy for explanation, waited over a week and received NO RESPONSE. I emailed again and it's been over TWO MONTHS AND ETSY STILL HAS NOT BOTHERED TO EXPLAIN WHY MY STORE WAS CLOSED!
Prior to Etsy Closing my store with no warning, I had been a very dedicated and hard working seller since 2009. I feel that I am at least owed an explanation! Additionally, I lost all of my sales records that I need for tax purposes, lost all contact information with current customers, lost all conversations needed to complete orders that had already been paid for and several sales that I was close to "sealing the deal!"
As an experienced online seller, I highly recommend sellers stay away from Etsy! They have turned into Ebay! Really Sad!

About Etsy
