My name is James Jenks. I am an Attorney and grew up in the Chicago Suburb of Lyons and work nearby. I have been a lifelong customer of Jewel Osco located in Stickney, Illinois near my home and shop there a few days a week. I have never had any issues until yesterday. I am not a person who filed complaints, but I was so taken back by my experience that I cannot stop thinking back on it and feel urged to inform you now. It may seem trivial, but to me it is not. I went in yesterday and wished to return some purchases that my family incorrectly bought only the day before. As I did not have the receipt I did not ask for a cash refund. I only wanted store credit as they were the wrong products that I needed. I have never had a problem before returning or exchanging in my 36 years as a loyal Jewel Osco customer. The first gentleman that I talked to said no problem and rang up my returns. I handed him my driver's license because I remember the last time that that I returned something they requested it he said he did not need it. But my returns were totaled just over $50. It was only a few items. It consisted of razors which were the wrong brand and that I needed and around $30. The rest was a can of deodorant and batteries which were the wrong size that I needed. And again I only wanted to get the correct product with store credit, not return it for cash. The gentlemen then informed me he needed someone to clear the return as it was over $50. He called over a woman and she then said I could not return without a receipt. But I informed her I only wanted store credit. There is also a sign at the customer service desk stated the return for credit is allowed without a receipt. She then stated very rudely that it was her discretion to not allow a return or exchange. She would not give me a reason. For. It allowing my return and allowing the person who was in front of me to return there perchases without a receipt. Her entire demeanor was rude and condescending. She called the assistant manager Michale Lewis over who was even more condescending and rude in a passive aggressive manner. I asked why not and he said because it was over $50. I said I wouldn't return everhing than to keep it under $50. He than said he would not except the return at all due to store policy. I pointed out that is not the store policy as stated. Again it was their rude and condescending manner that bothered me and the fact each of them keep giving me inconsistant reasons to deny my returns and seemed to just deny me for no reason but because they wanted to. Especially After the first said no problem. I am very upset by this experience and would like it addressed.

Wondering why Jewel - Osco would remain open regular business hours during the crazy weather days we are having?
Are you employees not that valuable to you?
Do you really think people will be out riding around to come to your stores?
I understand the public needs to be able to get somethings but to stay open late at night makes no sense to me.
Would you want to get into a frozen car and drive home? I think not.
The day money becomes more important than your employees is a sad day.
parking lot
I went to the Jewel in Franklin Park as I usually do after work. Upon arrival I noticed that the parking lot was an absolute mess do to the prior snow fall. I realize it snowed 12 hours earlier, but there was obviously no attempt to remove the snow. The worst part of the lot was the handicap spots. They had at least 5" of slushy type snow in the designated spots. This is not the first time I've seen the lot like this and its seems like it becoming a serious safety issue. I have video if want to see it.
store 4060 register light
At store number 4060 in Burbank, Illinois, the light for express register 9 does not work. It hasn't been working for months. I'm told that it's not the light bulb; it's a wiring problem or something. Either way, I have complained to the manager, but nothing was done. Their solution is to turn on the light for the next register, but that creates confusion for customers, and frustration for cashiers.

Jewel - Osco / 87 W. 87th Street, Chgo., IL 60620 Very disappointed with the level of service you provide to our Black Community. First of all when you enter the store, there are no carts available. When complaints are directed to the front desk, I am told "we don't have enough carts because they were stolen" This was over a year ago, yet you have not replenished the store with atleast the theft deterrent carts. The shelves are poorly stocked and you seldom have the items listed in your weekly sales paper.

On January 20, 2019, time 17:28 I walked into Jewel Osco at Howard & Clark in Chicago Illinois and purchase a punkin pie and some other food product that I also have submitted a photo scanned of the receipt and a piece of glass discovered while I was eating it, and do not know how of it was in to item.

About two months ago, weekly ads format changed. Practically impossible to view. I give up. I'll make my weekly shopping list from other store sale ads, which are also online and easier to navigate. After 60 years of Jewel shopping, I'm done. Website WAS easy to use. Now ads appear all smashed together, and I have to scroll up down and sideways to view a whole page. If I move ads to iBooks, they often are blacked out.
I'm done. Too bad. Been Osco prescription customer for 40 years, I'd consider changing that too. Poo on Jewel Osco.

I ate these meatballs sold by the jewel at 4734 cumberland in chicago, chewing along bit down on a bone fragment that cracked my tooth exposing the nerve and had to b removed by the oral surgeon otherwise risking infection and emailed the company telling them what happened and all they did was send back a form email saying "we sorry and apologize but we have state of the art quality control" and blew if off, they pass it on to their insurance company travelors who tell me im being disrespecfull, disrespectfull how? Store #187. My cashier Nikkel was very unpleasant today as I was checking out. She seem to have a major attitude this evening! (January 3rd 2019 @ 8pm) IM VERY IRRITATED how the customer workers are at this particular Jewel! The plaza area is loosing Target, Marshals & Burlington! Why? Poor performance stores and customer service! I know African Americans that will not shop here because of the NEGATIVE atmosphere here at this Jewel! I dont appreciate the subject line stating that i am complaining . as if i an a child being told were i went wee wee. lol. seriouly change that, it makes it sound like i am at fault for talking and makes me mad. Anyway, i went to your store and complained about the soup . I was told it was always that dry and clumpy. baby formula
My local Jewel here in Chicago Illinois on Foster and Harlem four five different times in the last month I've been there to buy my baby's formula sometimes in an emergency and everytime nobody in the store has a key we can't get access to it so I can't feed my baby because nobody can hold onto a key I get a different story every time I go there that this manager has it this manager has it or or he lost it or we only have these many copies and nobody knows where they are the fact that they have the formula locked up they should have the key on hand at all times

I recently had resigned my position at the Romeoville store to get a new part time job, put my two weeks notice in and everything, and now that Im graduating High School (early graduation for accelerated students), my availability opened up. I went and re-submitted an application there and the front end Manager claims she never got my 2 weeks notice, and that I just walked off the job, and she is using that to keep me from coming back as a worker. Now normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but since Jewel Osco is an "Equal employment opportunity" store, AND the big yellow "We're Hiring" signs out front, made me question why they won't accept me back as a worker, despite everyone else saying I was one of the hardest working people there. Me and my family are also loyal customers and everyone knows us well, so I dont see why this is an issue.
