I went to purchase a handbag for my daughters 16th birthday. Knowing that if she did not like it we could go back and exchange the handbag. While I was there I found another handbag with no price on it, I brought it to the customers service desk to ask about pricing. The bag had a recipe in it along with a couple coins, gum rapper and a coin purse. The...

I was just in TJ MAXX on Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills, Maryland to purchase several items. I asked a lady to help me with a pair of shoes for the price, her name as Sandy, she was so rude that I almost walked out. she was slamming shoes on the counter and said tell the cashier that I said to use $24.99...My friend and I were both taken back by this lack of customer service. My receipt # [protected]. I did purchase the shoes but I will think long and hard before I go back to TJMAXX again...

poor customer servive
TJ Maxx in Woburn MA has a terrible customer service. I have been through serious illness (cancer) and treatments and was unable to wait for a long waiting line in the check out area, and this store offered no place to sit in the area. So I asked for help. The manager Rick refused to help me for a speedy checkout. Then I waited in a shorter return waiting line and when I was called I told the cashier that I was unable to stand that if she could help me check out. She also said no to me. I ended up buying nothing. I drove all the way to buy one item (I only had enough energy to shop for one item) in the TJ Maxx store. All I received was inhumane treatment! I was sad and outraged. This incident happened on 8/24/09 early afternoon.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Asking for a place to sit while you are ill is not asking for special treatment. They have shopping carts that are wheel chairs now with baskets attached plus as management it is the responsibility of manangement to make every customer service experience enjoyable. Saveyshopper... I am sure you would have a different opinion if it had been your mother, sister or daughter in this situation. You would have wanted someone to help or perhaps made the effort to help your family member yourself.
Oh please... people should stop expecting special treatment! It is not the world's responsibility cater to your every need. Everyone demands "fair treatment" until it involves them... then they want special treatment! Get over it!
Im sorry for your illness but why not prepare and have someone go with you that could have helped, perhaps take a wheel chair with you. I know cancer is the hardest thing on the body and even harder on the spirit and people forget that. You are far from an idiot so ignore savey shopper but people have very little manners these days and dont go out of there way to help people anymore for the most part. Its a sad thing.
So you are upset because you didn't get special treatment. Idiot! What about the people who followed the rules and waited in line, you are not more special then them. Grow up!
Normally the employees can check you out but it usually depends on the managers answer. But I would've checked you out...I sometimes do it at the jewelery counter when the person has like 1 or 2 items. I know I'm not suppose to but sometimes I feel horrible that customers have to go through that kind of treatment.
service
my husband, my son and i walked to the front door of the store . as i lifted my arm to open the door a woman rushed to the door and started to lock the very top of the door. the three of us were frozen with disbelief. because of the look on our faces she cracks the door for an awkward moment waiting for my response to her locking the door in our faces at 7:50 . i ask "are you guys closed ". she say"yes". what time do you close. 8:00. it's not 8:00. we always close 5 minutes before.after all that its still not even 7:55. i looked at my sprint phone it's 7:53. after i looked at my phone she says "is there a certain thing you wanted to get very quickly". no, i wanted to look. i was shocked and speechless so she just shut the door and locked it. when i finally came to my sences and i called the store to get her name she mumbled it . i let her know that i didn't hear her clearly, she hung up in my face. i called right back, it rung for a while then someone picked up and hung up. wow i am still puzzled!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
What they said.
oh poor u! i suppose she should have opened it up and let u all in to stay as long as you wanted. you want to "shop around" 10 mins before closing? it's not like we're tired and want to go home to our families or anything. we're not real people.
next time come in at reasonable time not 10 minutes before the store closes... I know you people that come in 5 min before closing stay 30 min past closing and buy $5 worth at the end...

TJ Maxx has a return policy that you can return merchandise w/o a receipt within 90 days. I went in to get store credit for an item and the employee - Jenn Whiting and the manager - Shan Lee would not return the item. They said it was not "in the system. However, I bought the item and tried to return it within 3 weeks --well within TJ Maxx's 90 day return...

I have frequented TJ Maxx for many years and have usually had decent customer service. This complaint isn't going to make me stop shopping there but it's to make others aware what to expect.
I was there 2 days ago looking for a pair of jeans. I had an armful of jeans when I went to the dressing rooms. I waited patiently for somebody to come count my items and give me one of those number things so I could try them on. After about 5 minutes of waiting and two employees came out and immediately started talking to one another about, no lie, her "baby daddy" and how he's screwing her out of child support and whatnot acting as if I wasn't even there.
I'm generally not one to complain about stuff like this but after asking if I could try my stuff on she rolled her eyes at me, took the stuff out of my arms to count and continued talking about all this stuff with the employee like I wasn't even there.
I know the whole retail experience is generally not great but I don't think that's any excuse to roll your eyes at a customer for wanting to try on clothes just because you want to continue your conversation. I wasn't being some annoying person or anything.
By the way ... I don't know why it added all those 's in my complaint. Sorry about that.

Is there a receptive way to tell the management team that they all need to take a sensitivity course, it seems like they are all to busy with there own job to take time to check on employees, there is so much drama going on with management, divorce, " I have so much on my plate today", not understanding employees needs if they have disabilities, and management talking with employees about other employees.
HAHAHA! That's right! But usually TJMaxx would hire anyone who can breathe.
you would be out for some revenge with 13 cent raises
I agree, they need to either train their low paid employees on "customer service", I feel like these people that are hired are out for some revenge.
more cashiers
I shop at TJ MAXX'S at least twice a month. I often shop during my lunch hour. The TJ MAXX'S at 14754 Preston Rd. is always busy during lunch. The line is always long with only (2) cashiers. I have seen customer leave items which they wish to purchase at the front counters, because the wait is always long with only (2) cashiers. I sometime think of the moneys lost due to not having more cashiers.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
There ain't any cashiers cuz tjmaxx is understaffing to save money. Corporate gives pay roll and they allocate hours accordingly. They have people but they feel its not in their best interest to use them (cuz they have to pay them...)
I understand, this is definitely not my favorite TJ Maxx I've ever been too. I've had problems with employees and wait times as well.
rude clerk
I purchased a pair of earrings in the fine jewelry dept. in the Rock Hill store. I loved them...unfortunately the clasp broke the first time that I wore them. I tried to return them to the store (I had the receipt) and was told by a very rude clerk that I needed the small tag that was attached to the earrings to return them--even with my receipt. I was not told at the time of purchase that I would need this tag, only the receipt! She was so rude and made me feel like I was trying to scam her. There were other customers at the jewelry counter--and she was so rude and smirked so I kept the receipt-- I told her to keep the earrings they were no good to me broken! So beware T J Maxx shoppers!

terrible costumer service!
I was disgusted! A few days ago I was returning some items for my mother. She handed me the items and the receipt, and I went on my way to return it. I was just the messenger for her and didn't know nor care about the items or when they were bought or what they were, etc. I stood in line and when the woman finished with the costumer in front of me, i walked up to the counter. she didnt look at me or acknowledge my presence, so i waited. without looking up after a few minutes, she said "Go ahead!" Um, excuse me? I pulled out my items and handed her the receipt. She stocked her leg up in front of her, started chomping her gum and reviewing the receipt (like a true professional... not!). after a few minutes she looked at me and said "This time ill give it to you, but it is past the deadline and that is completely REDICULOUS" she shoved the receipt in my face and showed me the deadline, THEN took a pen, circled it, and shoved it in my face again (in case i was completely blind the first time?). i said ok calmly, because it was NOT my receipt, i had no idea, and was not in the mood to deal with her rudeness. she kept going on about how now shes going to have to go out of her way to make extra markdowns because of careless costumers, blah blah blah. get over yourself, hotshot, and learn how to talk to costumers! A simple respectful explanation about how its past 30 days and too late to return it would have been fine! I left completely angered and embarrased. but I was in a rush and did not have time to speak to her manager. What an old hog, I remember her name and hope to return and tell her what a disgusting employee she is.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
A cashier doesnt have any power, but in some stores the only people allowed to take returns are front line supervisors who do have the power to decline a return. They are trained to follow a set of rules for returns, and they are only doing their jobs. When a rude or obnoxious customer comes along and puts up a fight about a certain policy, a manager sometimes bends the rules so the customer doesnt report them. It puts the associate in a bad position and makes them look like an idiot even though they were only doing what they were trained to do. And yes, you do get the occasional cranky associate when you have to deal with people all day that have bad attitude and that are just waiting to pick a fight with you.
I love it when nasty salespeople who think they have the "power" to decline a return because of their unprofessional
bias, call the manager over, and the manager tells them to give us our damn money back. Who do these cashiers
think they are? If it wasn't for our bucks, you wouldn't be making your six dollars an hour. Management knows this, its about time the clerks learn this lesson also. You're a cashier, ok. Your not REALLY in control, like you want to be. And stop telling your friends and family to come in for the "hook up" when the manager leaves. Often times
it is not the customers stealing, but "set ups" by employees. Otherwise, the Clerks would at least look up and pretend
they are surprised when the alarm goes off when one of their friends walks out of the store with merchandise.
your clearly the idiot. this isnt a spelling bee its a place for complaints about tjmaxx. go to a ### website if thats what your in the mood for. why be rude for absolutely no reason>? ugh

I went to the TJ Maxx in Evanston, IL. My mother had bought me a shirt from the Runway section, and the size was wrong so I wanted to exchange it for a bigger size or exchange it for another shirt of the same value ($150). I go to school in the Evanston area and my parents live 2 hours away, so I did not have a receipt for the shirt. The first man I talked to rudely told me that the exchange/return policy did not allow me to do anything without a receipt. I went home and checked the return policy and it clearly stated that I could return an item without a receipt but would only receive store credit. I went back with a printed copy of this, and the same guy rudely told me that he knows his return policy and would not take it back. I asked to talk to the manager, and he also told me that he would not take it back. I was in no mood for arguing so I took the shirt back, but on the way out I told the manager about the rude treatment from the other guy. The manager said nothing and the othey guy rudely mumbled at me while I was walking out. I went back to the same TJ Maxx a few days later, and the manager saw me there. The entire time he just followed me around the store watching what I was picking up. He made me feel like a criminal. If I can pay for a $150 blouse, I don't care about trying to save a few dollars here or there. I will never go back to that TJ Maxx and I advise all of you to never go there either, unless you want to be followed like a criminal and be treated rudely. On the other hand, the TJ Maxx is Oak Brook is amazing with great quality and service.

While not your fault, next time make sure that if you or your mother buys a gift at TJ Maxx, ask for a gift receipt. You'll find that suddenly, a lot of problems with the return that arose from your lack of receipt will magically go away!
Just don't steal stuff and save your receipts. A lot of places won't even return a $5 item without a receipt. Welcome to the real world!
Actually, the policy says other restictions may apply, but I guess you skipped right over that part since it would not support your argument that everyone else is wrong and you are right. It is a retailers right to refuse any return for any reason. However, I will say the store should have exchanged the shirt for the identical shirt in a different size, if that is what you were wanting to do. However, you did say they refused to return it, not exchange it. Retailers have to protect their assets, you may not think $150 is much money to a large retailer such as TJ Maxx, Wal-Mart, Target, etc, but when you have 300 to 1000 customers coming into your store each day and 10% - 25% want to return something it adds up very quickly for a company. Just curious, why didn't you just get the receipt from your mother? She could have mailed the receipt and it would have arrived within a few days. As far as the manager following you around, if he/she thought you were stealing loss prevention would have been following you and you would have been none the wiser, not the store manager. Perhaps the store manager was making sure he/she was available if you needed any help in order to off-set the previous bad experience you had with them.
stealing
So I came into TJ Maxx today. I rip off every tickets to see if I can get a cheaper price. I went up to the service desk and I ask the asian girl if she can check the price for me. She said no! Then she call another asian girl up. I ask her if she can check the price for me, she said to me rudely, "If those ###ers didn't rip off the price there would be less work for us!". I ask to speak to her manager, she said her manager is not in the store. And I ask her who can I speak to, she said no one. Then she said she can't check the price for me and told me I'll have to wait an hour or so. So I went to the back and found a boy working in the rugs department, I ask him to check the prices for me and he said, "Why don't you bring it to the service desk!?! Do I look like I can help you right now? I'm busy!". I flipped out on him and he wouldn't say anything back. Then there's another asian boy with glasses, I ask him to check the price for me, he said, "Oh, I don't work here." Then they paged him to the fitting room and he left. I said, "Excuse, I thought you say you don't work here." He said, "No I didn't. Well, I do work here but I'm not going to help you!". I was looking all over the store for the manager but couldn't find her so I guess I went into the breakroom? Another asian girl was in there and she scream to me, "HEY! you're not suppose to be in here! It's employee only! Can you not read the sign? If you need to use the rest room, it over there to your right!"
I would never go back to that store ever again.
Tyngsborough is even worst!
I tried on a couple of shoes, and one of the employee said to me, "If you're not going to put it back and clean up the mess, don't try on our shoes." I tried to complain to the manager, she walked out with a bag of McDonald and said, "I'm on my lunch, I'll get another manager to help you." What kind of customer service is that?!?! WTF! Then I continued shopping, everytime I touch something, the employee look at me, I ask them, is there a problem? do it look like I'm stealing. And 3 of the kids reply, "Yeah, it does." I said that's it! Let me speak to your manager! They said "No! We don't have any managers here." So I found the same manager with the bag of McDonald coming in with more foods, I said to her, "Excuse me! Your employees were really rude!" And she said, "Oh, it's okay, well, I'm still on mylunch break, I'll be back in about 20 minutes." So she walk back in the office. I told the kids, I'm going to call the cops and everyone started laughing and hand me the phone. I didn't call the cops on them but I rip about 60 tickets off their mechandise. :) That's what they get for messing with me!
I agree with this complaint! yes, i am another person named steve and i believe that both those stores suck balls! this asian guy named steve is completly right! like, why cant they get anyone other than asian people to work at the tjmaxx in chelmsford! and wat the hell is up with the associates telling hm to pick up her mess! Seriously! No respect! None! I’ve worked in retail for 15 years. Do you want to know why you were treated like that…. Because you acted like that! Even if they have to look up a price on an item it’s still THE SAME PRICE GENIUS! All your doing is wasting your time and theirs, you really expected that to change? Really? That’s why you were treated like a joke. That time could be spent on serving real customers with real issues. Calling another store for particular items, ensuring all departments are recovered. Filling four ways and end caps. Cashing out legit customers. Pushing merchandise. Marking down merchandise. Sizing sorting ticketing categorizing! This is what they could be doing instead of reticketing merchandise that was just ticked. You wouldn’t understand until you do this as a living. Actually care about your departments , store, and or employees. What if there’s a code Adam and Manager on duty is running around looking for your ripped tickets instead, Don’t care do you? No common sense. Grow up dude!
I've been a shopper at the Chelmsford, MA. TJMaxx for YEARS. There isn't now, and never WAS an employee in that store who would treat a customer the way this person CLAIMS they were treated. First of all, he notes that he dealt with clerks of Asian descent...like that should be considered a problem...and all the while, he's unable to write a paragraph in proper English himself. He admits to ripping tags off so he can get a "better price", and then complains because he wasn't treated like royalty. Sounds to me like he's little more than a piece of gutter trash, and obviously, his parents did a rather poor job of raising him.
I think you are stupid for ripping the tickets off the merchandise hey will just put the same price on it anyway... idiot, and u are trying to make problems for the people who work there so yeah they will hate u so... honestly u should not be allowed in any tj maxx... you are sadd..
Steve, you are so full of ###, that it is not funny. You are ripping off price tags in hopes to get a cheaper price; in other words, you are trying to rip off the company.? I happen to be an Asian from California, but I would have felt the same way. No one should help you when you are trying that ###. I wish that someone would have kicked your ###; too bad there is so much political ###. Next time, pay the price that is printed on the tag, instead of ### about rude employees. You got what you deserved. I am sure those employees do not give a ### whether you return or not.

TJ MACCs sucks ###. all ### loss prevention ### in atlanta is crap. boycott this crap!~!
It is amazing to me how so many people think they are entitled to a job. Guess what? The real world isn't so easy. I am appalled at the one sided view of most of the employees posting here. Maybe the reason you don't get promoted is because you aren't professional, or have poor communication skills. Time on a job, or senority, doesn't preclude a promotion. Part of being a manager is being able to see both sides of a situation. If an employee is being investigated for theft, they aren't going to announce it to everyone. So don't be so sure that your complaint about a thieving employee is going unheeded. They have to build a case, just like anywhere else. Also, while you might have children, that doesn't entitle you to work all the hours you want at the times you want them. Dollar General has a business to run, and that means having associates there when the customers are there. Work is work, not supposed to be some fun, magical place where you get everything you want without any negatives or having to do some labor. Crying about every little thing is going to get you no where. Oh, and talking about ANY kind of sexual activity, straight, bi, or gay would get you fired at every place I have ever worked. It is called sexual harrassment. Even if you don't intend it to be. So keep that crap to yourself if you want to stay employed!
So Steve, in your complaint, you seem to openly admit that your both a racist and a thief. How does that bold well for your credibility?
Actually depending on the company it can be easy to get to the employee break room. We have had many customers at the Wal-mart I work at stumble in to the break room because they think the store has two levels or because they think that is the washrrom is(despite the customer washrooms being right before the break room) We just poiltely tell them where the washroom is. Just a few days ago I stopped a man from going in the lady's washroom because he did not read the sign. I doubt that all the facts in this letter are true however. Also calling people who are over the age of maturity "boys" and "girls" is degrading.

I was just in the Tjmaxx in Chelmsford the other day. I have always shopped at tjmaxx since i was a little girl. I was trying to buy a sweater and it seemed like the sweater was missing a markdown. The month on the tag was 07 meaning July yet it had only had one markdown. I went to the service desk to ask one of the associates if they could check it in the computer and they refused. So i had requested to speak to a manger and the assciote said that he was busy and would take a long time to get up here to help me! i told him iwould wait, and i did until he came up. I asked him the same question and he refused to check it! i told him i knew it was less money and he said unless you have the same exact shirt (which there was none because it came out in JULY) then he couldnt mark it down! i was disgusted in his attitude and answer and went out of the store extremely mad and confused! im not going to buy a shirt that i know is marked down ! its the company's own damn fault its not marked down to what its supposed to be ! ! ! ! I HATE TJMAXX IN CHELMSFORD ! ! ! ! !

yeahh get a real ###ing problem lady. if you know more than we do, why don't u get a job there? you couldn't handle it.
Pretty sure the customer sucks in this scenario. Get over it, you idiot. Pay the extra $10 if you need the damn thing so much. And what relevance does your "I've shopped there ever since I was a little girl" nostalgia bunk contribute to the story? Consumers are such jack-[censor] these days. Go get some real problems.
waaaa waaaaaaaaaa (Debbie Downer trumpet sound)
1. Markdown look up is blocked in our store (High Shrink Target)
2. Items are priced based on how long they been in the store, they can't be marked down at someone's house.
3. I just scan the item in any menu and say "No, sorry it's not marked down (or the color, or the month, the style, it returned, system is down etc.)" in the most polite and apologetic way.
4. When people hear the truth they get upset, when you kiss their ###... they love you still. Or Bad Cop/Good Cop games with manager.
Service desk associates that won't take the time to call a manager or do a look up are liars that don't have the right attitude for customer service
the service desk person mark? obviously doesn't know how to do a markdown look up @ the service desk which will always give the 1st mark down whether subs or initials are open or closed
i also work for tjmaxx and I can check whether the item has been marker down in less than the couple minutes it takes me to log onto the markdown look up. A mgr is paged to the office to do a price look up. even if I am the only acting mgr in the bldg, i can have the price in 2 minutes.. Complain to corp...
If it does not have a sticker, and there's nothing else like it in the store, it's priced as marked until the next cycle. The next markdown would have been just 5 dollars, 2 dollars less than 7, which is already a very low price for a sweater. Not to mention that month codes do not always match up with the month of the year, and not all items are marked down at the same time despite the month code.
It's unreasonable to expect that all items have the markdown they would have if they went through every cycle, many items that have a markdown on them are returned, and they are generally put back with whatever price they were sold at. Checking a subsequent markdown takes a lot longer for the manager to go into the computers to check. For associates to do this with every clearance item returned would be a waste of time. Many old items are not even in the system and cannot be checked for another markdown, and if someone will buy it at the marked price, there is no reason to mark it down when there is nothing wrong with it.
Hey,
I work at TJ Maxx, and usually am up at the Service Desk.
Honestly, we have specific dates for markdowns and subsequents (subs as we call them), and upon these days, we're allowed to check for markdowns or subs. If not, most of us, cannot check for a markdowns or subs without a manager being present.
It can be very stressful for us up there, having to worry about customer complaints, constantly asking for markdowns, discounts, speaking with a manager, making sure breaks are on time, if we have any one else to ring on a register...
A THOUSAND RETURNS A DAY, it gets quite hectic for us up there.
All I ask is, I know I read that most, or nearly all complaints are about TJ Maxx and their associates. But until you put yourselves in our shoes, I just wish you would have the common courtesy to respect us.
If you are nice to us, we will treat you the same! =) Especially myself, I try to make a nice convo, but some people are grouchy and inconsiderate, you know?
But honestly, the next sub would have been close to two or three dollars off. And people return just TWO dollars, it gets annoying. Or if they sit there and complain why they have to get store credit back, it's very.. very tedious.
Sorry if I come off angry, this is just a lot of locked up anger and disgust for people. Lol, anyway, thanks for reading!
store manager attitude and treatment
Today, Feb. 7, 09 I realized after having spent my life at TJMax shopping, the store is CONFUSED with their own prices. I was and I am pissed about the way the manager and the cashier took care of me. The clothing I was trying to buy had mark down prices on them, and during the time I was trying to purchase, they claimed those items were not actually on Sale. HOWEVER, the exact item on the rack (after the manager checked) was infact marked down also. STILL they did not honor the marked down price, they took off their sorry marked down sticker off the ticket, and told me THAT particular top was not on sale despite the fact that its exact twin was! So tell me, WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? I just cannot believe the store embarased ME and treated me like a criminal! I am beyond upset and beyond hurt! especially because TJ Max has always been my FIRST choice! Now, it is NOT my choice at ALL! This happend at the TJMax on Almaden Exp, San Jose, CA. I HATE THEM!
