store items that are on sale
L'Oreal hair products are supposed to be two dollars off thru 01/08. I went in to purchase these items and all of they had no hairspray on the shelves, just one of the styling products, and two of the shampoos that were on sale. I went to another Dollar General and guess what? I'm not kidding, they had the same amount of product out as the first DG I went to, the exact same ones. I know they are waiting to put those out until they go off sale, and L'Oreal has new packaging on these shampoos and conditioners, I know they are waiting to put those out until the day that the sale goes off. This is total fraud.
davinci

dollar general doesn't accept money from the chamber of commerce
It has been brought to my attention that all these little Dollar General stores recently opened in small towns are not accepting what we call County Chamber Bucks. If you don't know what Chamber Bucks are, they are basically checks issued by the city or county's Chamber of Commerce to be spent in businesses in that specific County or city. Keeping your dollars local and supporting the local economy and citizens. These Chamber Bucks are often purchased and given as gifts, bonuses or prizes. They are just like a paper check and are encoded the same and paid through a bank account of the Chamber of Commerce, just like a personal check. These small communities, ours specifically I know worked very hard for Dollar General to be able to come to our community. I'm told by previous employees that "Corporate" has told employees they are not to accept Chamber Bucks or they will be terminated. I'm also told that our community's Chamber president has been round and round trying to explain this simple concept of Chamber Bucks and the fact that they are essentially a paper check just like any other paper check. The fact that the community is not able to use these in a store in our community that worked so hard for the store to be in is nothing less than a slap in the face of this and other communities. This is the first forum I've come across, but this will not be my last communication about this issue with this policy. I will continuously be emailing DG Corporation until I have a satisfactory response, as well as blasting on social media and will also be contacting the local investigative news station. This is unacceptable and if need be a community black out/boycott of Dollar General can be organized. We are a small tight-knit community who can fight by spending our dollars elsewhere in OUR community.
But Dollar General isn’t local; it’s a national chain. Your “bucks” wouldn’t be kept in the community. The point is support local businesses and economy, correct?
the checkout guy
The cashier was being really extra with every customer I guess he was new but it was at a level that it was irritating the customers bc it was taking double the time with him being unnecessary. The few customers in front of me had started the interaction normal but by the end had become visibly frustrated. When It was my turn I was sure to be very patient after holding my heavy basket and items for 10 mins ( I'm 4 months pregnant) when I went to swipe my card, the chip reader does not always work. I was trying to explain to the cashier about how I visit this store on a weekly basis and I know you have to put in specificlly 3 times before it will ask you to swipebit but instead he SCREAMED over me instructions and how he needed to reset his screen. Not only did it delay things further but it was inappropriate how he decided to scream at a customer. There was already 7 other people angry waiting in line and when it finally went through I took my stuff and left while he was trying to explain his survey to me. He seemed angry when I brushed him off. It's not so nice when it happens to you
rickman, tn dollar general store
The Dollar Store in Rickman, TN is a disaster. The store is always a MESS and has stock carts full of stock sitting around in the way. Nothing is organized and it looks so junkie in there all the time. The employees are usually nice but they stand outside and smoke in front of the entrance and you have to walk through cigarette smoke to get in. Employee appearance could use some work too and they do not need to be talking and telling their personal business to the customers or with other employees while customers are present either. The store needs a good manager to get it cleaned, organized and looking better. The store is a huge plus for the Rickman area and it is always busy. Please clean it up!
unethical behavior
At the GG store in the small town of Lewisburg Ohio a manger threatened to call police on my 43 year old mentally challenged brother for eating a piece of candy in the store before my 83 yr old father had a chance to pay for it. My brother has done this in that DG store and the one in nearby Brookville Ohio for years, even though we try to get him to stop. We always pay for it, and the rest of the employees and managers have always been very understanding and friendly, but this fellow was apparently rude, and we fear what a police call could escalate to. I think someone higher up in the DG chain of command should have a talk with this manager, and I myself am thinking I may need to myself. I wasn't there, and I don't even know the guy's name, but he's causing grief over a 50 cent piece of candy that gets paid for anyway.
employee
There is an employee of the dollar store located in Pierre part, La. Her name is Marcy. Just recently my fiancée was rushed to hospital by air med because of liver failure and this employee, Marcy is a relative of his. She has been telling other customers and co workers that I tried to kill him. Several other dollar store employees as well as customers have came by my job or either called me on the phone to tell me these horrible things that Marcy has been saying. I am a very loyal customer at the dollar general store here in my hometown and I am hoping that this matter will be addressed. This is slander and I do plan to follow up with the sheriffs office as soon as tomorrow. I hope that you can assist me in resolving this matter as it is not the business of an employee to go around making false accusations on a customer, especially when she doesn't personally know me. She has also told her co workers not to accept checks from myself or my daughter yet we are all on the same account as my fiancée. Thank you for your time,
Amy Duplessis [protected])
tastykake
As I was shopping in one of your many stores I was browsing your sweets area while trying to be somewhat healthy but also trying to curve a sugar craving, I noticed that only one brand out of all of Dollar Generals selection does not have the calorie count on the front of the package ( the small box in the bottom corner of the package). This brand would be TastyKake. Why is this?
check out
1/28/18 2:15, I walk into a normal, busy, saturday store on 4501 E ranceir Ave.
I got my things and expect to wait for a while. However I see another line with one person in it.
me and a couple other people walk over and stand in line.
we are all told by the manager of the store that she isn't going to "help a line of people" and " go back and stand with the "them""
with over 13 people standing in line, she has the gall to make the only person other person working today work them all as she talks on her phone and helps 1 person at a time.
this is not the way a human acts, this is not how a store is run, this is not the business me or the 13 other people will be going back to.
I can't believe any body would be so rude and ignorant.
manager rude and had unethical behavior
Incident: Jan 27, 2018
Dollar General Store #14645
Valdosta, Ga 31601
I got off from work and stopped at this store to pick up some household items before going home. I finally got the cashier's attention to come check me out, after she did I put my phone number in as a digital coupon customer for my deduction off items I got. I immediately explained that the amount had not been taken off properly but she argued with me. The manger came up and I told her what happened she looked on the computer screen and agreed that she saw the coupons listed and said, "but for some reason it didn't deduct it off". I began telling her that this is the second time in the last 2 weeks that they had done the same identical thing... at this time the manger began getting a little louder saying, "your not getting the money because I can't override it, so keep it moving". I shop in this neighborhood store 3-4 times a week but not any more I will take my business elsewhere. I feel this way... why do the digital coupons when they refused to honor their advertisement... just false!
store manager
I was shopping at the DG on Broad St in Waverly, Ny. I needed a big bottle of ibuprofen and there weren't any on the shelf. There were bins there that they were stocking the shelf with and I asked if she could get me a big bottle out of the bin and she told me "No, I would have to come back later." I then went to the other employee and asked to speak to a manager and was told she was the manager. There was no reason she couldn't get me a bottle of ibuprofen! This happened at 12:15pm on 1/27/18.
cashier
This store at 930 putman ave has outdated food and drinks I visited there on vacation to be treated like an animal in Zanesville, Ohio 43701 cashier stunk I was told by another employee yes she stinks bad very dirty and the langage let alone I was in line watching people walk out without paying her reply there lost not mine then I learn one is her husband walking out with ice beer and his friends. Really nice lost a lot of money but her attitude was terrible so when it came my turn to ring out I decided no I'll got to Walmart I'm sorry but this is terrible I'm was there from pa for a funeral worst thing I ever saw by the way the cashier name was Kim last name unknown hope you watch out for thieves and get better help
messy store
The Dollar General in Como, Texas is an absolute disaster. The shelves are never stocked, they have freight carts all over the store on every aisle. There are several aisles completely blocked off by them. The store itself is a wreck. I can never find what I'm looking for, and when I ask about a product, I don't get answers. This is the worst Dollar General I have ever been in. I will not be shopping there again.
employment
I am trying to get a hold of someone in Human Resources to find out why I got fired a couple of days ago. I never called in and never late. I worked on my days off. I was working at another store and I was the only cashier and I had a line all threw the store. Well someone paid me $300 dollars bills and I checked them to make sure they were real and a couple days later the store manager from the other store called my manager and said I took a fake 100 dollar bill and I know I didn't. Well two days or three days later I was fired. Never been wrote up or anything. So I want to find out if I can get my job back but transfer to another store.
could not shop in store due to isles being blocked. it was a mess in store. I have photos.
I always have to drive to another count to shop at dollar general, because out store that is right across the road from me is too cluttered to shop in. The isles are always blocked, even not on truck days. Very disorganized, no one to help, can't get buggy down any isles, it's a disaster! I took photo yesterday, to show you how bad it is, because I didn't feel like going out of town to shop.
employee treatment
I am 63 years old and a former employee of Dollar General in Wauseon, OH. I quit/retired in October 2017.
I was one of two assistant managers. The other assistant manager is the frozen food manager. She has been training to be a store manager. She then took over as acting manager when the actual store manager was out on vacation and when she was out on sick leave. This AM is very good at working stock and very fast. But she is a TERRIBLE MANAGER. She doesn't care at all about "recovery" if there is any back stock to be put out. We were always supposed to do "recovery" at 5pm everyday except truck days. She would tell me not worry about "recovery" that she didn't care about it. There were more important things to do. So, therefore, the store was in a horrible mess. She didn't care, even when customers complained.
This AM as the acting manager, was terrible at make schedules, putting people on when they had already asked to be off. One employee had previously asked for Labor Day off to be with his son at the Boy Scout booth at the County Fair. This AM/am decided she would make him work all day so that she could have that day off. She said, "that would be the only day she would get off." Really? I told her she was wrong, but it didn't matter. She was constantly complaining about other employees because they didn't work the way she wanted. She called them lazy, stupid, etc... She stayed constantly in touch with the manager from the Delta store and the district manager. She constantly complained to them about employees. She acted like these SM and DM as though they were her personal friends, whether they were or not.
As I said before, I am 63 years old. I have some chronic medical problems that make it hard for me to meet many of the speed requirements of Dollar General. In trying to keep up, many times I have almost passed out. I am more of a Customer Service Expert than a physical speed expert. I firmly believe in winning over the customer. I had many customers who told me how they appreciated how I took care of the customers. These customers also trusted me. Some customers told me that I was the only one of the AMs that they trusted, and they would complain about how the other AM treated them. This other AM was constantly nasty to customers. At any rate, it was hard for me to get things done quickly due to my health and physical drawbacks that had shown themselves while pushing myself so hard to get things done as Dollar General required. I have learned that as I was having more and more trouble getting things done fast, the other AM decided that she had to tell all the other employees what a terrible employee I was, what a terrible person I was. She told the DM that I was lazy and didn't want to do the work the way I should. I think that's why one day the DM told me that if I couldn't do the job, I could be replaced. I was totally shocked by that comment. She apparently also told the Delta manager that I was lazy and stupid and didn't want to work.
I told the SM that this AM was not a trustworthy person as she was talking about me behind my back and saying nasty things about me. I told her to watch her back, that the AM wanted her own store so bad, who knows what she would say or do to get it. Because of this other AM being a horrible co-worker talking behind my back, undermining me with my cashiers when I was the MOD, and the fact that it was getting physically harder and harder for me to keep up with DG requirements (I was getting yelled at), I had to quit/retirement. When I learned what she was doing--the breaking point being when I heard her telling a part-time cashier about me not doing what I was supposed to be doing, even though I was doing what the SM told me to do--I knew I couldn't work there any longer, not one day more.
I have since learned from another ex-DG employee from the Delta store who quit in November 2017 for similar reasons as I did, even though she's young, that when she helped out at the Wauseon store, no matter who she worked with told her nasty negative things about me. Even though I was always nice and helpful to all the other employees, as a AM, I obviously didn't realize that everybody hated me so much. They sure didn't show it. I hashed over whether I should have quit or not. I really needed the health insurance! I can't afford Obamacare at all. Therefore, I now have no health insurance. I, unfortunately, have a dozen prescriptions that I need to stay alive. It's tough, but I'm working it out. I'm now so glad that I quit when I did.
Dollar General is a terrible place to work! This company discriminates against older employees with outrageous requirements that are difficult to manage. Plus each store has only two employees working at a time to get work done that is enough for four workers at a time. It's absolutely insane! Even the customers notice and say it's totally unfair!
service
I am complaining about the the store at 19026 highway 43 Northport, Al. I live 2 miles from your store and my wife and have 3 kids. We both have very good and well paying jobs we gross togather $130.000 to $138.000 per year we travel by every big box store known to man every day to and from. Last month on one of our accounts we spent $611.97 at this store alone, mostly on snacks and everyday essentials. I know this store is very high on DGs sales list every year. Please do something about your employees attitudes that are on the clock now at this location at 8:00pm Monday 1/22/18. These 2 are not good for your store. I understand that they are dealing with the public as my wife and I do and it's hard sometimes even when you are making a very good salary. Please make changes or we are finished with DG!
Wow, you are extremely obnoxious. Bragging about your salary and "GOOD JOBs". You opinion does not matter more than that of anyone else. Stop being an [censor] bully.
store manager rudeness.
I was waiting in yet another line at DG and said this aloud, the store manager flew out of the office and proceeded to abuse me verbally over a comment I made that was true. (5folks waiting to check out, I was the 6th. ) #08249 Saxonburg PA. She was condescending, arrogant and with an "attack attitude". She opened up another register but then proceeded to do anything to avoid checking me out . When I moved back to the original cashier and said I should have stayed there, she replied " yes you should have " She was very demeaning and acted like I should be thankful to be able to checkout. Since when did this become acceptable for a manager to act this? The rudeness was unbelievable! At no time did I raise my voice, nude profanity or make rude comments. She was out of line and needs to know how to properly treat a customer
customer service.
This is for the Dollar General in Union, SC located near Lockhart. The employee Christina is the rudest person there. She does greet you like should but you can tell it kills her. It's like she picks and chooses the customers she likes. I've had many people agree with me. Not sure what the problem is but it's not fun going into a store where someone acts that way.
humiliated in the store and pointed out like I was shop lifting
I was in Dollar General on Caton Rd in Lumberton NC during my lunch break as I often do and pick up a few things as I always do. I was halfway in the back of the store facing the front when a man called the cashier over and said loudly. "Look back there. She's got an empty shopping cart with that big purse up there. I was humiliated. Not only could I hear him halfway in the back of the store but everyone else in the store did too. She actually had the cashier walk over and look down the aisle at me. When I checked out I asked the cashier if he had actually said what I though he did and she confirmed it and said he was just paranoid. He was outside on my way out so I told him I didn't appreciate the way he pointed me out like I was shop lifting and of course he denied everything even though the cashier confirmed everything he said.
