a female employee
I was in the Greers Ferry Dollar General tonight (April 27, 2017) and the female employee that was working was screaming at the male employee. Literally screaming at him. This was an adult woman who was throwing a tantrum like a child! And she was an employee! This is a business not a daycare. She is one of the reasons I go in this store as little as possible. I have seen her there almost every time I have gone in there and she is one employee I avoid. One of the reasons is because I watched her watch a customer shoplift and she did NOTHING about it. I even asked her if she saw it and she just laughed a little and said "yeah" and that was it! I was ashamed to go back in there for such a long time after that. Then tonight when I went in there to have to witness her acting so horrible just put me over the edge. I doubt I will go in there again because of this woman. Something honestly needs to be done about her. She was verbally abusive (including foul language) to the other employee and I was NOT the only witness to this either.
customer service
On 4-27-17 I went to the Centerville Iowa store, one employee was outside smoking. I found my items and went the the register. No one was at the register and in the 5 or so minutes that I waited the manager walked by three times close enough to see me and just ignored me. I finally left my stuff at the register and left. This happens nearly every time I go to this store. I will not be going back again. The workers seem more worried about stocking shelves then providing custumer service and the manager is a grouchy witch.

service
The cashier was out front of building talking on cell phone and smoking a cigarette while customers were inside store, had to wait till she decided to come back in store to pay for my stuff. I finally got checked out at 18:41, It's uncalled for her to be out side with people in the store. That would be the time to take something and put it in their pockets to steal if they wanted to.
tide pods 12 ct & gain pods 16 ct
We regularly go into our local dollar general by our house, at least once every other day. So we saw the signs to join the digital coupon and figured it would be a good idea to sign up.
I saw the ad with the tide & gain pods & the downy unstoppables on sale.
The ad specifically shows the pods were priced at .95 each and the unstoppables at 2.45. When we checked out the manager on duty said they were having issues with them ringing up but that I would get the ad price. They didn't ring up correctly & the cashier wouldn't ring them in at the ad price even after the other key holder manager told her to manually put it in. So I demanded a refund for my purchases and left very upset & embarrassed due to holding up a long line.
I'm very disappointed with the service. I've never had an issue with the store til today.
I tried sending a picture of the ad but it won't load here.

poor conditions
I think is shameful the way Dollar General has allowed their store in Bryantsville, KY to remain in for years now. Every time you go in the air conditioning is not working and it is miserable shopping conditions. I feel very sorry for the employees at this store, they are always dripping with sweat when you go in. I can only assume that due to this store's location, there is NO completion anywhere close the company feels there is no need to invest the money needed to make this store any better than it is right now. The parking lot is also in a horrible condition. Huge holes all through the parking lot. This store could be such a good store, its just a shame that apparently as long as the $ is coming in, no one cares about improvements.
My last visit was on 4/21/2017, however this is an ongoing problem
mistreatment of manager
My name is Jennifer and I was hired 04/01/17 as a Sales Associate at Store #4891. I am not being rude, but I know my acting manager deserves more recognition than she has thus far. I say acting manager because she has not been able to recieve the actual manager position until the store is back in shape. Peggy is by far THE BEST boss I have ever had. Not only is she friendly at any given point through out the day, but she also has been working way too hard to be undermined like this. From what I've heard she has never received proper training, and we are still cleaning up the mess previous bosses left. She has worked double shifts multiple times and works right alongside her employees. She works harder than anyone there and I can only imagine how she feels right now. We were given a limit on how much product could be in the back room, and I'm sure we would have passed on any other day except TRUCK DAY. I'd bet there was close to 1, 000 pieces delievered, of course we would exceed our limit. Especially when there is still product there from previous managers. I almost feel as if the decision was already made and that's why truck day was chosen as the day to decide Peggy's fate; so that it wasn't obvious or something. I know she has another chance to try again in the future, but with how hard she has been working I don't think this was at all fair. I was personally told from the district manager that our store has never looked better, and I believe that is thanks to Peggy. I hope somebody decides to re-evaluate this in a fair manner, taking into consideration her hard work and the love of her employees.
employees
I went into the dollar general in Greenfield, TN and there is this one girl who is covered in tattoos who is incredibly rude. She tries to run the store even though she is only a cashier. She doesn't listen to the managers. She doesn't do her job either. She was just shopping around the store and smoking outside right next to the door. She needs to be fired or something needs to be done because she is not a good worker at all.
manager, jane
I purchased BuyOne Get One Caesar dog food. Once I got home realized they charged me an extra $8.40 for the "free one". It should have run up free; took it back. The mgr, was incredibly rude and told me she couldn't do anything for me since I had left the store. I showed her my receipt and she said I had to go home and get the other one, I went home, got both of the items, brought my receipt, my Visa (which I had already spent $105.00 that day 4/15/17 Sat) and my license.
She didn't want to refund the money and was so rude and obnoxious, this woman needs to be fired NOW. This store has changed employees and not for the good.
I will never shop there again and I am contacting Caesar Dog Food to advise I will never purchase their product because of Dollar General's Mgr.

poor customer service and rude employee
On 18 Apr 2017, in Belmont, NY 14813; my girlfriend, her grandmother and our daughter were at the dollar general doing some shopping. The Dollar General associate Carla was very rude to them. They (my girlfriend and her grandmother both) had asked for a price check on an item and they both got attitude from Carla. When they went up to check out they were told the had spent to much time shopping in the store. There were other customers in there that commented on her comments to my family. I personally don't want to see anyone loose their jobs but her attitude needs to be addressed.
unlawful detainment for accusation of theft, while shopping.
On Tuesday, 4/11/17, I was stopped and detained by the Old Lycoming Township Police Chief, an assisting officer, and the Old Lycoming Township General Dollar Store Manager. I was ushered to an open location within the store, and I was questioned about the reusable bag I was using to shop with. I stated that I have shopped at this store several times with this specific bag, which was, in fact, purchased at this location. I was asked for my ID and where I work. While my ID was being run, verbal accusations were made regarding an intent to conceal items. I verbalized my issue with being detained while shopping, as I never attempted to go past the point of sale and exit the store.
I find this entire interaction to be unlawful and embarrassing. I was no where near the point of sale when I was ushered and detained. I feel targeted, and concerned about my reputation, as I am a local candidate running for office in Williamsport, PA. This was completely unacceptable, and I am considering a consult with a lawyer at this time.
rude manager / cursing cashier
I went to the Dollar General down in Dothan Alabama on West Selma Street to do a return after standing in line about 20 minutes they told me that I had to go to the other long line to do my return When I got to the line the lady was very rude and begin to have a very nasty attitude the cashier was very nasty and started cursing telling me to come back up here and meet her outside at 8 o'clock I live close to the store but I would never shop here again this place is very unprofessional
employee
Hi I was @ the dollar General in pittston 457 main street in pittston, the cashier did get her name, she has short brown hair, & bangs, could be in her 50s. I asked her if she could scan the water cause my boyfriend was holding a 32 case of water, she says with an attitude that she needs a minute & that she was trying to put stuff in the bags which I unstood & didn't say anything then she looks @ me & says "what?" & I said huh she then says "oh I don't know you're just staring @ me, which I was looking @ the amount I was paying I looked @ the guy that was standing behind me he said that was rude which I totally agree I will no longer be going back to this location as I don't like yo be talked to this way & don't appreciate it @ all.
price on 100 lipton tea bags
My wife an I went to Dollar General in Pomeroy Ohio. We saw a price on Lipton tea bags 2.85. We shopped for other things and then checked out. She rang up the price of tea bags and we told her the Lipton was 2.85. The tag was on with the regular price. I went back to look and the store manager had taken the price off. They are playing games at this D G. We are in D G 3 days a week, this will Change where we shop. Scottie & Esther Smith [protected] Address 46365 Scout Camp Rd. Long Bottom, Ohio 45743
dirty store
I used to shop here all the time, the dollar general in waldron arkansas, but since they changed the aisles it has become a store i dont want to shop in anymore. I went in today, 4-16-17, and it was so dirty. Couldnt get down the aisles to shop, pools that should be outside were leaned against aisles so we couldnt get down it or see what was behind it. You could see dirt on the floor. Boxes everywhere, items in the floor or strewn along the shelves. This problem needs to be addressed immediately. Im afraid they will continue to lose more business as they have lost mine. Would rather go somewhere else. Its just filthy.
And thats kinda the point to begin with. They dont have more than two people at a time working.
men's hanes boxer briefs stay dri
The security device used by dollar general pokes a hole in the material making a run like stockings I asked that the security devices be removed from 2 boxes and allowing me to remove a bad pair from each box and purchasing the 2 good pair as 1 box and the manager and counter person said I Could not do that the security things they have to put in and I cant switch these are a good item that should be moved behind the counter if you are afraid of theft or picking on the underware to be stolen what about all the other items that can be lifted easier another suggestion don't put security device in clothing or find another security device that wont poke holes I cannot believe Dollar General has me complaing about underware anyway
manager
Hello, I am an employee at Dollar General in wagram, nc. I'm contacting DG because as an employee I feel as if the manager mistreats her workers. Every since my manager Cheyenne has came there she takes smoke breaks at least 4 times out her shift, she's very rude and disrespectful to the customer and employees. Not only that but she changes the work schedule without telling the employees and when we don't show up to work it's a problem because we aren't informed. Tonight when my ride was waiting for me, the driver in my car told me he heard Cheyenne telling another person that the workers at this dollar general are lazy mother f###ers, when she tries to explain things to us she said we don't get what the "f###" she is saying and that she is trying to get rid of all of us and replace us with the employees at her old job and she also complained about how she never gets a day off. She also stated hopefully she can replace the assistant manager. If the CEO of dollar general stands for someone like this than I am BEYOND ashamed to be an employee here. Something needs to be done soon!
length of training period required to keep job. store #13668
My daughter in law started working at the dollar store in our area, this was her very first job ever. She hadnt worked at the store a month and considering that this was her first job she was doing good she made a few minor mistakes, which should be expected and worked on with her. But she had to quit ( or be fired) because she wasn't learning the store fast enough, the District Manager said she should have learned what she needed to in 2 days. Any job that I've ever had you had 30 days to learn. Is this typical of the type and length of training that is expected and given to new employees, if it is it's no wonder the dollar store can't keep or hire good employees, no job can be learned properly in 2 days. It was at the District Manager's recommendation that she be fired or quit. I would really hate to think that this is the practice of the Dollar store's hiring requirements, that you have only 2 days to learn the store or your fired. If it is, it needs to change, a new employee should be given 30 days to learn and/or be trained accordingly. My daughter n law was so proud of herself that she had gotten hired and was starting to get the hang of things especially since this was her very first job and being made to quit has done nothing but made this a damaging and emotionally bad experience for her when she tries to get a job somewhere else, because she thinks that she wasnt doing or could do a good job. No one wants their first job to be a bad experience it's suppose to help prepare them for future jobs to better their selves. If she had been given the opportunity to prove herself she would have made a good employee. But your loss and hopefully if this hasn't caused her to question herself someone else's gain. Again I hope for all new and present employees that this is not company practice to not give employees time to learn their jobs. I'm sure that the District Manager had more than 2 days to learn his job didn't he? He needs to be trained on how to treat his employees, because excuse my language he sucks at it.
Store #13668. My daughter n law was hired at the Dodson Branch, TN. Dollar Store she went to work Monday evening everything was fine, Tuesday her day off she went in to get her a schedule was told that she was being let go because she had 2 days to learn the job and she didn't. She had also been wrote up 3 times for things that she was not told or shown how to do, she had been working there less than a month, she was not suppose to be left alone to run the register, someone was suppose to be with her while she was being trained but she was on the register by herself after only a few days on the job. She said that no one would tell her how things were suppose to be done. She does not understand why she was let go because she was told that she was doing a good job, that she was going to make a good employee. This should fall back on the manager because it was her responsibility to see to it that she was being properly trained and she failed to do so. My daughter n law was let go for personal reasons, the manager had someone that she wanted hired back and to do so she had to let someone go. Customers were happy with her and we're disappointed when they were told that she had been let go. This is no way to treat new employees or any employee. If the manager let her go for personal reasons than she needs to be wrote up herself for this. It was not because she wasn't doing her job, the manager is the one who wasn't doing her job it was her responsibility to assign her a trainer and she didn't, because she needed a reason for letting her go. We also found out that a previous employee who had quit without notice was wanting her job back and to get it back someone had to be let go. This is no way to run a business, me and my family have spent alot of money at this store well no more and we have alot of other family members and friends who shop there, and they may stop shopping there when I tell them what happened.
the district manager of the dodson branch store in tn. #13668
I have a complaint about the District Manager of the store in my neighborhood. He is rude and disrespectful to his employees, the employees that work at this store are friendly and hardworking. New employees are told by him that they have two days to learn everything about the store, Which is ridiculous and unrealistic, every place that I have ever worked you were given at 30 days to learn the job, and that should be the same at this store, if it's not it should be. No one can or should be expected to learn a whole store and it's workings in 2 days. The store manager has a good working relationship with her employees which makes shopping there enjoyable and relaxing, because when you see the employees getting along it makes for a good store environment for shopping. Using your position as an excuse or reason to be rude and disrespectful to those under you is just and should be unexceptable. This is that I know of the only store where the employees aren't treated with the respect that they deserve. They work hard and treat their customers with respect. The manager and employees at this store are friendly and hardworking and deserve to be treated accordingly. If the people in this area knew how the employees at this store were being treated by this District Manager they would be very upset and would probably shop elsewhere because the employees and manager at this store are very well liked. Using your position should never be an excuse or used to treat people with disrespect or that they are beneath you! The manager and employees at this store deserve better and should be told and shown appreciation for their hard work in making this a store a place that people enjoy shopping at. I hope that this is not how all your Dollar stores operate.
background check not in
I really don't have a complaint per say, but more of an inquiry that I am hoping I can get answered. I had applied for a sales associate position at the store in Elgin Texas 2 weeks ago. Then I had put in my pre-employment paperwork last week on 4/6/2017. As of today at 3pm, I had gone up to the store to see what the hold up was on my background check getting sent into the system so that I can start working. The store manager stated that she had no idea why mine an 2 others are taking so long to go through. If I could get someone to please look into this matter and hopefully have it taken care of. I would greatly appreciate it. I really want to work for your company and I really need the job 4 weeks ago. Thank you so much.
