$15 admin fee on tollway violation
Enterprise seems to have a new revenue model these days by charging $15 admin fee on unpaid toll amount. Today, I received a notice from Enterprise on an apparent Illinois tollway violation for $1.50 when I rented the car in Aug 2012. It also says they are assessing a $15 administrative and processing fee, which is just atrocious. It was a Open Road Tolling (ORT) and the first time I've ever been through. Illinois Tollway itself has charrged only the actual toll amount that indicates this was never a violation but a missed toll amount but Enterprise didn't care. The violation department number can never be reached through the [protected] and directly goes to voicemail always. I am regular at Enterprise and I used to like them very much but I vow never to rent from them again ever!
By the grace of God, I earn a handsome salary, so I certainly do not want to save a mere $15. This morning, I donated the amount to my Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities that feeds the poor and hungry. Gald it went to the needy and not unnecessarily to a wealthy corporate.
Btw @Brenda's Mom, are you sure this person is a "her". I googled to only find out his real name is Clayton Nelson and so depressed that he wanted another member to call him Mr.Nelson, as if this guy deserves it!
I didn't have to cry, just made the company aware of its true obligations and there was someone reasonable on the other end to listen to. You can try all you want but Enterprise is not going to hire you because of this ... poor guy ... just won't admit he miserably fails ... someone give him a real job to work on. Pathetic soul!
"Whatever you think you were told, or not told, is trumped by what you actually signed..."
Enterprise called me yesterday and after an extensive conversation, I managed to get the fee waived off. Now, you can bang your heald up against a wall! Boo!
Waiver means the recipient has been offered an option that is being declined. I was never offered because the rental location did not have the service. What part of my post did you not understand?
Let me explain my situation to you. I rented in Minnesota for a ride to Chicago and back - where Enterprise does not have a transponder option. The policy clearly states "If you decline to purchase the toll bypass option, you will pay us for all unpaid toll roads violations (including violations captured by camera) charged by the toll authority plus a $15.00 administrative fee per violation. If you have a personal transponder or account, it may not transfer to the rental vehicle and you will be charged a toll violation". It is clear the condition applies only on explicitly declining the option. In my case, because of the said limitations at Enterprise service centers, I cannot be charged with any admin fee. I hope you get it now - that is why I keep saying do not comment assuming you know everything about a complainant's situation. It is easy to be theoretical; try being practical for a moment. On reading your explanation, I am reminded of the story by All About A Dog by A.G. Gardiner. Rules are merely guidelines and not to be followed in letter - The spirit of the game is more important and every situation has to be assessed by its own merit.
If someone should be removed for silly comments, it should be you "This Place Needs More Descartes". I reviewed your profile and most people seem to already acknowledge you are a trouble maker in this forum. You do not know the contract I signed up, so I am going to politely ask you to shut yourself up. Let someone reasonable respond.
There was nothing specific about tollway violation fee to be paid upfront by Enterprise that I agreed to ... I rented in my state of Minnesota and not in Illinois - at least, we don't seem to have ORT. Do not comment as if you knew what I signed up for. Btw, Drenda ... LOL, "This Place Needs Descartes" is actually an Enterprise representative in disguise!
Don't be so sure. Terms and Conditions do not win customers, anyway. $15 could mean one lost customer and may be, my friends too! Transparency matters! After two months I am not even sure I passed that tollway, may be or may be not. In any case, Enterprise should have alerted me for a transponder or at least, make it explicit for customers before renting. It cannot assume to pay on behalf of customers as it does not leave room for dispute in the vent of a mistake. I hope someone reasonable from Enterprise is reading this complaint instead of guys who just point me to T&C!

treat me like a thief
I have been a very loyal Enterprise customer, since I got my drivers license. I am 50 years old now, so my first Enterprise car rental was a long time ago. My car broke down and I decided rather than replace it I would just rent a car on the weekends, that is the only time that I really need one. I made my reservation online. They called me right away and...

I have been using enterprice ever since i have been in USA., but i am gonna avoid it and recommend avoiding it to all my colluges.
Reason bein,
1. I receive a mail from Enterprise saying i have a toll violation on the rental car, even though i had a i-Pass .
2. I call the number on letter [protected] and it goes to voice mail promising to call back in 5-7 day.
3. 2 weeks later i see 16.70 deducted from my credit card no call back from above number.. i wanna say.. JUST BECAUSE U HAVE MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER DOESN'T MEAN U CAN ROB MY MONEY.
4. There has to be a call back before deducting anyways i call a customer service number they again give me another number ..[protected] again same crap voice mail.
5. Fed up with this thing i feel robbed here. I even called the Illinois tollway they do not recognize the enterprice invoice number at least give the Illonis toll violation number on letter.
6. Enterprice seems to have a monopoly. i will try my best to avoid this rental

billing issues
I had gotten in a car accident and needed a car in the meantime to drive while I was reaching a settlement with the party that hit me. On March 15th, I went in and rented a car from Enterprise. I signed a contract for 30-days. However, I let them know that a third-party insurance would be taking over the contract because they were at fault for my accident...

I had a rental car from Enterprise while my car was in the shop. Enterprise had a satillete desk in the auto body shop, and I was able to get my rental car there! However, when my vehicle was ready at the auto body shop, there was no one to check in my rental at the enterprise desk. I was instructed to leave my keys with the front desk at the auto body...

This morning we were supposed to leave early (8 am) for a planned trip to Memphis, TN. My husband had reserved a convertible from this company to pick up at 7:30am at this MG location. After trying to contact my insurance adjuster all week, with no returned calls.
I went to your office to see what is going on with the reimbursement charges that Enterprise had I had paid.
I finally spoke to an associate that gave me that FBI had paid the Enterprise bill and they would not be reimbursing me for the charges "LIKE YOU SAID", you would!
I was told that FBI would only pay $25 per day on a rental vehicle and I should got Enterprise about the difference.
I did that and they are no more helpful.
I spoke to Zac Maddox the branch manager about the unauthorized upgrade from $25.00 to a $28.45 a day plus tax car.
He said he did not know what the associate and I had agreed on.
This is the first time I had to use a insurance authorized car rental.
I was not told that the car would be costing me the difference.
I was taken advantage of just like dealing with a car salesman.
I was not informed that an upgrade was the reason, I had to pay $58.25 then $112.49.
My adjuster said they would reimburse me, well that did not happen.
Why would I wish to pay for anything? I already paid Farm Bureau for my insurance.
I might be naive, bu this is WRONG!
I was manipulated and cheated!
I want my $168.47 back.

overcharging
We rented a car through enterprise online before our vacation, when returned the car we were charged more than double the amount (like $200 more). We fought on the phone with the enterprise we rented it from a few times which got us nowhere. We were charged for every mile we put on the car. The car had trash in it when we picked up too, they couldnt even clean it. And to make the whole thing worse we got a letter in the mail saying we didnt pay a toll so the company did for us and was charging us $20 for doing so. We fought with them about this also. I dont see how it is possible to drive through a toll with out paying. We did use toll roads on our vacation and we had to stop at everyone and pay so they would open gate. My family rents cars all the time, for every vacation several times a year. We have been told that we were severely taken advantage of since this was our first time ever renting car. We normally drive for every vacation, in our own cars, but flew for the last one. My granfather is an OTR truck driver and has driven all the country, he has never heard of being able to drive through a toll without paying. This seems like complete ###. We extremely mad and will never use enterprise again.

I called customer representative to rent a car for one night (of course they're closed on Sunday) so your rental goes for two days. Don't like that but I accept that. Anyway, they quoted me June 11 $48.03 unlimited mileage. When I returned the car 17 minutes after the return time they tried to charge me $18.67 extra. But, they charged me almost double for...

Like some previous complaints we traveled to Chicago in an Enterprise car. We payed 5 or 6 tolls but we did miss one $.95 toll by going through the I-pass lane. We recently received a bill for $15.95 from Enterprise. Per the Illinois tollway website, nothing will happen until you miss 3 tolls in a 2 year period.
We are trying to figure out why a $15 fee is charged when Enterprise's office is in Lombard while the Illinois Tollway Association's office is in Downers Grove. We would be happy to pay the $.95 but were never given a chance by Enterprise. What is the point of a number to call if no one is ever there?

The tollway charges enterprise and you the driver. You get even one violation the jerks at the tollway charge $20 and two times the toll why should u have to give the tollway twice as much for paying in cash? It's not my fault everyone can't have a iPass in Iowa The rental company gets the bill from the tollway with fees. Still trying to find Out if I have to pay the cash amount or iPass amount
won't take cash only credit cards
I Don't use credit cards anymore and don't believe in our banking industry at all. Now, I can not rent a car with good old American cash. Enterprise and other company are forcing me to have a credit card or no chance of getting service and this is Illegal. Just as some business will not take bills over $50 so does this mean money is no good or is it just another banking, insurance ploy to get more money from those who don't relize that they are being taken for a ride, no pun intended. As a paralegal in class this will be brought before my class for discussion and see what we can do. My goal is to stop all this bullying that our government and corperations are doing to those of use that seem to have no choice but, we do and I will be that activist once and for all
Lol you are nuts. A car rental is not taking cash because they are letting you take a vehicle and you paying up front is not collateral. A credit card on file saves them in the instance someone wrecks or steals the car. It's sad a paralegal like yourself is clueless is understand this.
five days over charged intentionally
My husband and I are living in San Francisco. Last New year Eve we made a three days trip to Redondo Beach, CA.
We rented a small car for $25.00 per day from Enterprise at Redondo Beach, CA for only two days, actually 1.5 days.
We got the car on 12/31/2011 noon and returned the car on 1/1/2012. It was a plan and discussed with the manager of the rental shop.
The manager of rental car shop allowed and agreed with us to leave or return the car at the Best Western Redondo Beach Inn where we stayed during the trip.
A few weeks later, after we had flown back to San Francisco, we found out we got charged $390.30 for our rental car in the credit card billing statement.
After the surprised billing came, we tried hard to explained to Enterprise the mistake they made and the credit card company.
Unfortunately, Enterprise has refused to review the matter and faxed us a made up rental car billing statement. The statement has shown we rented the car for seven days instead of two days. The rental car shop insists that is a right billing statement.
We try to think what runs wrong. Then we felt we were cheated at the beginning of the rental car shop already. The reason we said that because when we gave our credit card to the manager, he charged us $390.30 before we drove the car. We asked him why you charged $390.30 that large amount for two days renting. Somehow the manager said this was a standard charge which would not go through to our credit card.
This rental car trouble has been bothered us for six months because we do not want to be whipped off. We found this rental company Enterprise through by the staff of Best Western Redondo Beach Inn. We have feeling the both Enterprise and the Best Western Redondo Beach Inn were together to help the tourists pay money should not be paid all the time.

false damage claim
So we rented a car from Enterprise for our road trip recently. The walk around was fine. I was told I'd get a Mazda 6, and when I got there, it was still not ready, but a Chevy Cruze was on it's way in from the body shop. It had been in a wreck (I'll get a carfax). A few hours into our trip, the bottom fell off. I called Enterprise and talked to their rep immediately, Aaron. When I got back, they accused me of being in an accident. They denied I called until I directly confronted the person I'd spoken to. The Manager, Carlos, was so rude, I had to get my husband to handle him before I started screaming. Then they said, we should have looked UNDER THE CAR BEFORE I signed off on it. --not on the "checklist". Apparently, it's a big scam if you google Enterprise/Insurance Scams. The manager continued to be so rude, saying things like "you don't shut up do you" and 'if you'd listen for a change" . Yes, I have it on recording because in Georgia, it is legal to do so. My husband came close to literally punching the guy. I will have to change the format of pictures and re-upload.
I had a very similar incident happen to me. I rented a Hyundai car in Tyler, Texas in January and when I was driving the vehicle back to Houston (where I was staying) I got a flat tire. It was late so I put air in the tire in hopes that it would fix the problem. It lasted me till the next day, so I went to the closest Houston Enterprise location to inform them of the problem. The assistant manager, Mr. Josh was able to swap out the car for me for a Chevy Sonic. It was near closing time and it was dark, rainy, and freezing weather outside. He did the "inspection" and we did not notice the scratch on the driver side fender...like I mentioned it was raining, dark, and very cold. Mr. Josh was also alone at the location and was very rushed. I noticed the damage the next day, but we had missed it the evening before due to the weather circumstances because the car was safely parked in my driveway for days. When I returned the car to the location in Tyler they accused me of the damage to the front fender. I have spoken with Mr. Josh and he says that he can't remember if the car was damaged or not when he released it to me. I am now being charged $1100 for the damages that I did not do. Mr. Josh suggested I contact the DRU and give my side of the story. I called and Ms. Melissa was extremely rude to me stating that I signed a contract that there was no damage to the car...well we couldn't see it because it was a grey car and it was raining and dark outside. She also told me that the investigation was complete and wouldn't listen to my side of the story. How can the "investigation" be complete if they didn't even talk to the customer? I have rented with Enterprise tons of times and have had a positive experience until now. I feel like I have been treated very poorly and unfairly. I did not damage this vehicle and I am being falsely accused.
enterprise car rental insurance scam
On 16th of Nov my Insurance Company arranged a rental car for from Enterprise as my own car was damaged. While I took the car the representative looked at the car and marked the existing damages in the car. But she didn’t look into car by sitting low. I also didn’t know that they should look by sitting low so that they can see the bottom panel below the door. There was damage already in the car’s bottom panel below the door which she didn’t notice. When I went to return the car there was another representative and he looked into the car by sitting low and found that damage.
I did mention to him that the lady didn’t look at the car the way you are doing it. That’s how she missed it. The damage was already present and I’m not responsible for that. The damage has rust on it, so that way you know it’s done long before. I’ve the picture of the damage. I had the vehicle only for 3 days. But he didn’t agree and said since it was not mentioned in the paper you have to be responsible for that. I’m just pissed about the fact because of one employee’s fault I’m responsible for a damage that I didn’t do. The matter is still with their claims department. But one thing for sure I’m never going to rent a car from Enterprise in future.
Whoever reading this make sure you really look into car while renting it thoroughly. Normal body scratch you would be able to see, but make sure you check the lower portion of the car.

My partner has just flew into the uk for a week and few days and I booked an enterprise car for her to pickup and they have said that they require a further 72 pounds extra on insurance so that if she came back with any damage/scratch etc., she does not have to pay an extra 600 quid...is this a rip off or what?
car being rented unsafe
I rented a car from enterprise in shelbyville Tenn. on 4/6/2012 for the weekend going to Alabama when i got upon the highway i could feel the front of the vehicle shake it made me very nervous so when i arrived in Alabama i called josh at the shelbyville branch and told him he said if i felt uncomfortable i could go to a branch in Alabama. so i did there was 1 girl there with no one else i told her what was going on she came out sat in car started it then turned it off and said i can give u another car so i agreed she was very sweet to us she vacuumed car and washed it for us. we left with the car she rented us well about 30 Min's later i realized i had left my phone charger in the other car i rushed back to get it she was gone there was a man outside cleaning other vehicles my husband told him about the charger the man said we already rented it. i said what what would u rent that vehicle if there is problems with the front end he had no response luckily he found my charger and put it back my problem with all this is the was a bad decision on her part to rent a car that is having problems like that how would the company feel is a family was in that car and wrecked hurting someone this really makes me rethink about renting from enterprise that could have been me and my family taking a car from u without checking out a car that came in with problems i have rented from enterprise for several yrs and this is really making me rethink my decisions on doing this again

charges for damage that happened after car dropped off
I am being invoiced for damage to a rental car that happened after the car was returned. There was a small dent under the driver's side bumper when the car was returned, the employee found it when he got under the car. The damage I am being invoiced for is for obvious damage to the passenger's side fender and wheel, not at all what was found when the car was returned. The photos I was given were taken 3 days after the car was returned, and the car had 38 more miles although the body shop is only 0.6 miles from the branch. The branch manager will not return my calls and the Damage Recovery Unit tells me that there is nothing they can do. I have now been given an invoice that states I have 10 days to pay - for damage that very obviously was not there when the car was returned.
Amanda,
I have sent an e-mail to you detailing the complaint. Any help will be appreciated.
I had a similar issue with enterprise, and took them to small claims court to get my deductible back. From this I uncovered that if you return the car after hours, or to a satellite location than you are responsible for the vehicle until they check it in, which could be anytime (even a month!). I'm interested connecting with other folks who had similar issues to talk about legal rights. If you'd like to learn more about taking some legal action, please contact me at enterpriseclaims@hotmail.com (not associated with Enterprise, just don't want to give out my personal e-mail). Hope to hear from anyone soon.
beware of the 'damage' scam being run by enterprise
Beware of the 'damage' scam being run by Enterprise. If anything happens to the car while in your possession, Enterprise will charge you for it, even when it's not your fault. My recent experience involves the steel plate coming loose from under the engine and part of it started to drag on the ground. I stopped and saw what happened and then called Enterprise. They came out with an exchange vehicle, and almost immediately told me I would be responsible for the damage. The person accused me of hitting something on the road and, when I told him I hadn't, he essentially said "your a liar, and beside the car was fine when it left their office, so any damages that occur after that time are your responsibility."
After getting home, I started checking around the internet about Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and I discovered several hundred complaints from across the United States. From a number of different websites. Almost all of these on-line complaints were very similar to my complaint. So beware of this scam. If you must rent a car from them, I highly recommend paying for the additional insurance - mainly to protect yourself from this scam.

damage claim + rental insurance
I had a car from ERAC for 13 days, which was nearly always parked in my drive way, parked rear in at work away from other cars, or parked at the end of the lot when out in public to avoid damage. Today I dropped off the car, with no issue. 6 Hours later I received a call from the ERAC in College Park, MD from Jeff stating they had the car and there was damage to the rear hatch below the window of a KIA Soul. He stated someone must have backed into me...Really Jeff? What type of vehicle can back in and hit a car 4 feet+ up and not do any other damage let alone a small crease. No problem he said, I had my rental coverage... Which I was told when I picked up the car would be $25. Not $25 a day, but $25. If I was told it would be $25 why in the world would I keep it (besides making sure I didn't get scammed on damages like the countless other people you can find on the Internet.
My issue is that this damage is bogus, and that I shouldn't have been charged $25 a day for this car. I was called one time over the entire 13 days with the car, despite the fact I originally took the car out for 1 day only. I wasn't called to be checked on before day 10, yet they found the time to authorize 6 holds on my credit account, 4 of which are over my limit (how does that work).
Watch out for this place, they are only out to take your money, not help you when you need it most.

I've got a similar situation right now. On a Jeep Patriot from Enterprise the muffler bracket had been damaged before I rented it. Nothing was visible because the tail pipe is tucked back under the bumper. I didn't have any accident or mishap of any kind. No off-roading or anything that could cause underbody damage. When I returned the vehicle I reported that there was a noise in the rear. The agent did a visual inspection and didn't see anything. Then I got a bill for $775.85 for damage. The tailpipe had been pushed up so far that it was melting the bumper.
pre-existing damage
On monday march 5th 2012 I rented a mini van from enterprise rent a car at their plymouth, michigan location. Prior to leaving the lot we did a walk thru. The front bumper was majorly cracked! I had to point that out the leasing agent, he never pointed it out! The back bumper had abrasions and scuff marks. I pointed it out to the agent say in “back bumper has scuff marks!” he noted this down on the agreement and then proceeded to try to sell me on every single supplemental service he could, insurance, roadside service and some other insurance. I declined and he was not to happy. The rental was for $175 for the week (All inclusive). The print out came as $195. I told him this was incorrect and he said they would adjust it when I returned. I rented (Signed out) the van and left. Upon returning the vehicle, the same agent inspected the van and called out one of the scuff marks as damage. Claiming that it was fresh! What are we talking about a scuff mark or sushi? Fresh! The white colored van had not been washed in a week. Any scratched or marks were going to collect road grime! Apparently they have some tool to measure blemishes and anything outside of the tool is considered “damage”! Well the leasing agent and his manger refused to accept that it was pre existing issue and I paid the rental charges, the insurance deductable which should have been $250 but the held $500 along with sharing any insurance information that they wanted. Also I had to go thru a whole story of the wrong rental rate being charged before they would adjust it.
I will never go back to rent from this company ever again and am making it my mission to share this on as many sites as I can. I will be darned if I am going to be taken advantage off. The so called damage is the length of 1 ½ credit cards! I took photos and any one I show them to laughed!
Lesson to be learned
Avoid doing business with these shysters i. E. Enterprise rent a car
Take pictures of the damage with the agent in them as proof prior to leaving with the rental
Ask them what constitutes damage and using that as the guideline go over vehicle pointing out every single blemish you see no matter how small. Don’t be rushed, make the agent earn their pay and work for the scam they a re pulling.
Enterprise has contacted me and decided not to proceed with this claim. They have refunded the $500 deductable deposit they were holding and issued a formal letter to the effect.
They contacted me through the my posting on the [redacted] site. Thanks for providing one of the venues that made this possible.

I also received a letter in the mail today telling me I was missed a toll charge of $0.30 and there would be a fee of $17. A total of $17.30 would automatically be charged to my card on file. I've left a message at the 630 number provided in the letter and of course received no reply. I do not think this is acceptable and I will be taking action with my credit card company for unauthorized charges to my card. I will NEVER use Enterprise again. The letter starts off with "We continue to look for ways to deliver the kind of service and products that bring customer like you back again." I'm no marketing specialist but I think you're on the wrong track!
"This Place Needs More Descartes " obviously lacks indepenent thought. Most of her comments usually consist of questions like "did you read the T/a", "why it is the company's fault, etc and so on".. You're spot on where your observations abot "this place..." clear he likes to rib the posters to build her self esteem up.
