What happened to the great taste of the Colonel's Original Recipe?! For as long as I can remember, prior to 1995, "The Colonel's Original Recipe 11 Herbs and Spices" had been the best flavored chicken batter of all the fried chicken restaurants! Everyone I asked regarding the flavor difference agrees with me, except for the KFC restaurant's managers, that the chicken batter does not taste as good it used to prior to 1995. Why is that? What happened? Who changed the recipe? And why? When the colonel died back in 1995, or so, did he take the recipe that most Americans preferred over other battered fried chicken, with him? What happened? When the new owners purchased the restaurant from the Colonel's family where they forced by contract not to use the same 11 herbs and spices and the proper amount of those 11 herbs and spices where you could actually taste the spices? If you look at an older picture of a piece of chicken with the Original Batter on it you could see all the spices, black specks in spots all over the batter. But, now the batter has 95% less specks, pepper spices, etc.. I haven't just noticed this one or two times, I've noticed this on every piece of chicken, Original Recipe, that I've seen and eaten since 1995. Now, that I have brought this to the chicken lovers attention, they will begin to realize through memory that I'm correct on what I can plainly see. Since the flavor is not as spicy as it used to be for all the years I have eaten at KFC, I just don't eat there anywhere near as often as I used to, sadly so. I remember years ago while I was eating at KFC restaurants, I would notice that many other customers like myself, when finished eating the meat off the bones, we would pick the batter off the bones and eat it even though there was no meat on the bones. Why did we do this? Because the batter had a quite noticeable, strong accent flavor of The Colonel's 11 Herbs and Spices. If KFC heard from more people whom feel the same they may bring it back! K.F.C. now tastes bland can buy better from supermarket or make at home...PLEASE K.F.C. go back to the original recipe
which was tasty and succulent.

This is correct. The chicken now sucks. No flavor like the old recipe. I have quit KFC altogether. Never will go back!
100% correct. It is now bland and I will take almost any other chain or grocery store over it.
it is terrible compared to what it was. I m done with it I can make better at home.
And no kfc representation. Imagine that.
Yep, I noticed the change around 1995. The original recipe was greasy finger licking’ good. Then they changed the oil is was fried in and changed the spices to make it more “health conscious”. I think they also changed the chicken the use. Simply a horrible product now. I have not eaten in over 20 years. Just crap now.
Absolutely. And what does Pepsi think they know “health”? Has the worlds health improved since then? Obesity abating? Hearts getting healthier?I forgot how angry I was back in 1995 when they did that. I think our best hope is that the company owners would pass on and maybe Chik Fil A would take over and compete with themselves. Now, every time I drive by I mumble to myself (most often out loud): Ah! Kentucky Fried Sicken!
I knew I was right just had some now and remembered it tasted a lot different when I was a teen, Yeah around 1995 checks out I can confirm this information is correct.
I have nooticed a definite difference in the chicken coating as well as the cole slaw and bicuits in the past few years. It is no where near the same. I have tried it a number of times and always the sme. Idon'believeI wwill ever eat it again. I used to buy it nce or twice a week, but no more. This is only in the past few years.
I have tried over time to find the original recipe chicken. I'll take the "grease, The Original is the very best chicken in the world. I travel for a living, and believe me I tried over 50 Plus KFC..Kentucky fried chicken
restaurant's trying to find one that has not changed. Why would anyone change this wonderful chicken?
It would take over the entire chicken industry running after KFC's market share. Do it. Michael Kasten
I agree. We had looked forward to KFC chicken from the Oakwood, GA location, but when we got it home, it tasted just like grocery store fried chicken. SSSOOOOO disappointing. We will not bother to go out of our way to buy again.

I agree. I noticed a considerable change in the taste back in '98. The chicken and all the sides used to be the best. Now the coleslaw, green beans, mashed potatoes, biscuits, macaroni are all bland. I frequent popeyes nowadays.
KFC would have beat popeyes before '95.
Fact: Pepsi bought KFC in the mid 1980's for one reason. As a place to sell Pepsi and have Coke removed. They didn't care about the chicken as it was unprofitable for them. Over the years Pepsi had made many changes to KFC and the recipes to make more profits and spun off to form a new company called Yum brands. Yum took over in mid 1990's and still controls KFC today. KFC was once larger than McDonalds, sold more chicken than anyone in the world. It used to be everyone's favorite chicken. It was finger licking good. Now, it is worse than boxed premade frozen tv dinner chicken. Chick Filet has long taken over in sales to be the number one selling chicken franchises in America. The new KFC bland recipe concocted by Pepsi took part of our America away.
I just had two pieces of KFC and remembered why it had been so long since I had eaten KFC. It sucks! I loved the KFC flavor and spices. Today I decided to ask the internet, does KFC taste different than it used to, and I quickly found all the validation in the world that I'm not losing my sense of taste or my mind. It really is different, and it really does suck. I've ordered my last bucket and won't even finish this one. I now have one more reason why I choose Coke over Pepsi. Pepsi destroyed my favorite chicken!

I will never eat at KFC again. Whoever did this to the original recipe is a fool. Those of us who are old enough to remember the 'real' original recipe, knows how much this one sucks.
i miss the original
what they have now isnt even close thats really sad yall
Go Back to the original recipe style, You are loosing Me as a customer !
Taste is terrible now & will not buy again unless they return to original taste.
You know something else…not only have the taste, flavor and appearance changed, the smell has changed, as well. When I was a kid you knew a Kentucky Fried Chicken was nearby based upon smell alone.
I know the 11 herbs and spices are lacking because I can’t smell any let alone taste them.
I’d bet dollars to donuts that the day Kentucky Fried Chicken switched to KFC is the day that the 11herbs and spices went out the window.
Very disappointing. But I have solace knowing that I at least had the privilege of tasting the real thing back in the day.
And on a side note that goes for good old St. Louis fried rice and chop suet. It just isn’t the same.
One more thing that irritates me about KFC is that they no longer offer green beans.
This has never been resolved... It's just plain breaded chicken... And so plain, I'm done with KFC
It’s a pity that Kentucky Fried chicken has lost its flavor due to cutbacks or some management decision to change the best-flavored chicken fast food restaurant. I don’t enjoy it and no longer order because of this. If the owners are so ignorant of the needs of the general public all over the world, they could as well shut down or just don’t call it Kentucky fried chicken.
If only they would bring back the original KFC from many years ago, it would be such a hit. There would be no other chicken to compare it too!
Please bring back the original recipe and the right oil 🙏
I agree 💯 that the taste has changed and gone downhill over the years...however the last time I had KFC (I'm in Egypt) the TEXTURE of the skin was so odd it looked and tasted almost fake 🤮
So sad they changed soo much over the years and continuing to change still.
Yes bring back the original recipe and frying oil etc as it is now is terrible, Flavour and herbs and spices have gone. I don't care how unhealthy it was, it tastes nothing like it used to. Popeyes and Jollibee are way ahead now. The original KFC would still be a contender.
Yesterday we decided to be a bit nostalgic and ordered KFC since we haven't had it in a long time. Somehow in the back of my mind I was thinking it may not be a good idea because I was thinking of why we hadn't had it in a long time. We ended up ordering and we had a bit of hesitant excitement to eat it. I grabbed a couple of pieces with fries and gravy and then bit into it. To my disappointment it didn't taste like the memorable KFC we grew up with, in fact it was bland and tasteless. The gravy which I remember I couldn't get enough of tasted like a bowel of grease mixed with flower.
No way are we going to buy this chicken anymore, it bordering on gross. They changed even the coleslaw and the macaroni salad.
Now I know why it didn't take long to receive our order on a day when it should have been busy historically. KFC is failing. Now we are amongst the ones who have given up on them once again.
I got a gut ache after my last visit to KFC , I wound up getting pretty sick for a few days, Looks like that location has a history of selling product that makes people sick , I am sourcing out a new chicken source , I wish they would stop "Improving" things
